Weekday Wear Linkup! Ombre Knit Worn 2 Ways

For today's weekday wear linkup I'm sharing two ways to wear this fun ombre knit I bought a few years ago from Jeanswest. It worked perfectly for a busy day in the office and then dinner out with some mum friends in the evening.

What I wore:

Jacket: Barkins beige trench coat
Scarf: star print pashmina
JumperJeanswest 'Serena' ombre knit
SkirtJeanswest black ponte pencil skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta

Why I wore it:

On a cold winter day, a nice knit jumper, black pencil skirt and fleece-lined tights is such an easy choice for the office, especially if you're in a casual work environment like I am. The ombre knit kept me so warm I only needed the fun star print scarf on the commute. The neutral stars pair perfectly with the camel trench coat. With all of the neutrals, even silver ballet flats, I felt this outfit needed a little pop so I wore my Rebecca Minkoff small Edie bag in magenta, such a great touch of colour.

It was a little bit of a hectic day at work, ending with a big presentation that I was quite nervous about! Thankfully I had my colleague there too helping me present, and I was relieved to get good feedback about our session afterwards, as well as some compliments on my knit! A forever classic I think.

Other ways to wearcamel trench coat and mustard dress, star print scarf and warp dress, ombre knit and leopard print jeans, black pencil skirt and printed tank in summer, silver ballet flats and jeans, Rebecca Minkoff small Edie bag and shorts.

Why I wore it:

After the day at work above, I quickly dashed home to get changed and get a photo before the sun set! I kept the same knit, as I love it so much, and just made a few extra changes to make a more cheerful outfit for an evening out with some mum friends trying a new restaurant.

I've worn this ombre knit with my burgundy pants before, but this is the first time I've worn it with my red jeans. I really liked the combination, and wanted to continue the red theme with the fun skull scarf. A black leather jacket seemed a more casual option than a trench coat, but still cosy, and I added some ankle boots to keep me warm. I did look at the photos afterwards and think I should have worn black ankle boots with this instead of my nude Acne pistol boots, but with these having a bit of a heel there aren't many opportunities in mum life to wear them and I jumped at the opportunity to wear them to dinner!

The coral mini MAC bag was a completely different colour, it really seems more peach than coral to me despite the official colour name,so I thought the orange and red would look nice together. I really liked this and had a wonderful night out!

Last worn: black leather jacket, navy tassel earrings, skull scarf, ombre knit (above), red skinny jeans, Acne pistol boots, Rebecca Minkoff small love bag.

Ombre Knits Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

It's great to have pieces that do double duty in the office and outside of work too! A classic neutral knit is something you will find easy to wear for so many occasions. An ombre knit looks great with other neutral pieces or can be made more fun with brighter and colourful pieces.

White Tees, Colourful Jeans, Cardigans and Printed Scarves

Two simple outfits for mornings at the park - bright denim, white tees, cosy scarves and cardigans with ankle boots and my Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag. Easy mum style!

What I wore:

ScarfStella McCartney heart print scarf
TeeAtmos & Here white essential v-neck tee
Jeans: thrifted ASOS petite green skinny jeans
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather

Why I wore it:

When I was unpacking my winter stuff and saw this scarf, I instantly thought of putting together this outfit. I wore it recently with a tee dress, and was excited to take the chance to wear it with the jeans! I love blue and green together and knew that the white tee would be the perfect base with the green and blue.

It was such a good outfit for a playdate in the park too, with some other parents I hadn't met before. Telling someone to look out for the green jeans works so well at a busy playground! It was nice to meet the mums and dads for the first time, and everyone commented on the jeans being a good idea as they stood out! Although the Rebecca Minkoff aquamarine Mini MAC bag is a completely different shade from the emerald green jeans I thought they went together really nicely.

It turned into a really warm day in the sun as the kids played together so I ended up taking my cardigan off. It had been a nice neutral topper for the outfit but was much too warm in the middle of the day, especially with the ankle boots and blanket scarf.

Last worn: grey maxi cardigan, heart print scarf, white teegreen skinny jeans, black ankle boots, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC.

Other ways to weargrey maxi cardigan in monochrome outfit, heart print scarf and dress, white tee and pencil skirtgreen skinny jeans and multicoloured tankblack ankle boots worn 30 ways, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC and printed shorts.

TeeAtmos&Here navy stripe v-neck tee
Jeans: thrifted Emerson red skinny jeans
ShoesAtmos&Here tan Lola leather ankle boots
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather

Why I wore it:

More colourful jeans! I wore my red pair this time, also a thrifted pair like the green ones above. It was a quieter day at the playground though - we have so many great parks around us so that it's often only a few kids in the parks on weekdays, and our favourite one is always quiet.

It's not the first time I've worn these red jeans with the navy cardigan, navy and red is a colour combination I keep coming back to! I know the red jeans would be perfect with this scarf too, it's a fun mix of colours and looks nice with the navy striped tee.

I did consider a red bag with this outfit but decided on the Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC instead as I thought the pants were red enough, and they already matched the scarf.

It was a colder day when I wore this outfit so I was thankful the boys didn't want to spend too much time at the park. A quick stop on the way home to pick up groceries and then a quiet afternoon at home.

Last worn: navy cardigan, leaf print scarf, striped tee, red skinny jeans, tan ankle boots, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC (above).

Other ways to wearnavy cardigan worn belted, leaf print scarf and chambray dress, striped tee and olive shorts, red skinny jeans and rainbow knit, tan ankle boots and matching bag, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC and maxi dress.

Colourful Jeans Under $50:

How You can Wear It:

Bright denim is such a fun alternative to a classic pair of blue jeans! Still oh-so easy to wear with the skinny jeans staple of a tee, they make a really colourful outfit paired with other bright accessories or layers like a scarf, cardigan or bag.

Weekday Wear Linkup: Feather Print Scarves & Pencil Skirts For Winter Office Wear

For today's Weekday Wear Linkup, I'm wearing two similar pencil skirt outfits for work with some fun feather detail scarves. One is a feather print scarf and the other is embroidered feathers. Both are wonderfully cosy!

What I wore:

camel trench coat, feather print scarf, white jumper, blush polka dot pencil skirt, Mulberry bayswater | awayfromblue

oak NVT Mulberry heritage bayswater bag | awayfromtheblue

awayfromtheblue camel trench white knit, blush polka dot pencil skirt mulberry bayswater winter office outfit
Jacket: Barkins beige trench coat
Earrings: Ana Luisa 'Olivia' tassel earrings in pink
Scarf: Nali feather print pashmina scarf
Jumper: white vintage knit jumper from my mum's wardrobe
SkirtCotton On 'Mica' mesh spot skirt in dusty pink
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
BagMulberry Bayswater in Oak NVT leather (cheaper second hand)

Why I wore it:

It was a really cold day when I wore this! I know I've worn this pencil skirt recently but I really wanted to wear it again, this time with a cosy white knit that's originally from my mums wardrobe. Even the ribbed jumper wasn't enough to keep me warm though, the taupe feather print scarf was a must have for the cold morning. So were the ankle boots!

With all of the neutrals I went with my pink tassel earrings to add a little more colour, even though it's a brighter pink than the blush of the skirt I think it worked nicely.

Last worn: camel trench, pink tassel earrings, feather print scarf, white ribbed knit, polka dot pencil skirtankle bootsMulberry Bayswater tote.

Other ways to wearcamel trench in a castle, feather print scarf and burgundy pants, white ribbed knit and leather jacket, polka dot pencil skirt and black blouseblack ankle boots worn 30 waysMulberry Bayswater tote and sheath dress.

What's In My Bag: Mulberry Bayswater

What I wore:

Tee: Spectrum basic v-neck tee in grey marl
Skirt:  Jeanswest zip detail ponte pencil skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats
BagMulberry Bayswater in Oak NVT leather (cheaper second hand)

Why I wore it:

I felt a bit flustered this morning! The weather was much warmer, which meant me ditching the knit I'd planned to wear the night before, and just wearing a grey tee under my navy coat. I still wanted to wear my pretty feather embroidered scarf though, and I thought the darker grey worked nicely with the lighter grey of the tee.

With having to change my outfit at the last minute because of the weather, and already running a little late, I had a very rushed start to the day, especially after taking the first few photos with my bag facing backwards, and having to retake them again so you could actually see the detail on the Mulberry bayswater bag! Thankfully the day improved from there.

Last worn: navy mac, grey v-neck tee, feather embroidered scarf, black pencil skirt, black ballet flats, Mulberry Bayswater (above).

Other ways to wearnavy mac and stripes, grey v-neck tee and shorts, feather embroidered scarf and printed dress, black pencil skirt over a dress, black ballet flats and skinny jeans, Mulberry Bayswater and chambray dress.

Feather Print Scarves Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A simple neutral top works well with a pencil skirt in the office. You can wear a knit if it's colder or a casual tee when it warms up a little. You can add a scarf for some extra interest and warmth in your daily commute too, and a printed or embroidered one is a great idea if your top is a basic neutral.

Soft Knits And Maxi Skirts In Winter With Cross Body Bags

I love layering up my maxi skirts a little more for winter! A cosy comfy knit it a great pairing with a maxi skirt, for maximum comfort and extra warmth on a winter day.

What I wore:

Knit: SES fashions mustard marle knit jumper
SkirtNoisy May long denim maxi skirt
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
Bag: Amerii medium sling rattan bag in black (c/o)

Why I wore it:

It was a really cold and windy day when I wore this - as you can see from my outfit being blown around a bit! It was so hard to get a pic without my scarf or hair over my face! I wasn't wearing leggings under this maxi skirt but I kind of wished I had - one of Brisbane's really cold winter mornings - the temps were down in single digits!

Our plan for the day was to go to the playground but the wind and the freezing temperatures made that a very unattractive option! Instead we just headed out on a couple of errands inside the nearest shopping centre to stay warm and get outside the house for a bit.

ShoesAsos Cleo leather boots in tan
BagRebecca Minkoff red micro Avery cross body bag

Why I wore it:

In contrast to the day above, this was a much warmer day! No need for the extra leather jacket or scarf, and I wasn't wishing I'd worn leggings under my maxi skirt. Although I was wearing taller boots under it so my legs were pretty cosy!

Just a quiet Sunday, with church in the morning and then Church Online in the afternoon. I really like blue and red together, and I've worn this red skirt with other blue tops in the past.

It's the first time I've tried the red bag and maxi skirt together though, it was a nice bit of matchy-matchy. Since the red micro Avery bag has gold hardware, I wore my navy and gold beaded necklace and navy and gold tassel earrings. I really liked this outfit, so nice and colourful and very comfortable!

Weekday Wear Linkup! Coordinating Scarves and Bags: Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga with Cosy Knits and Pencil Skirts

If you've read my blog a while you'll know I love a bit of matchy-matchyness in my outfits! I've posted recently about matching shoes and bags together, but for something a little different for today's Weekday Wear Link Up I'm coordinating my bags and scarves together, with two of my Alexander McQueen skull scarves.

What I wore:

pink skull scarf, cobalt knit and jacquard pencil skirt for office winter style with balenciaga alexander mcqueen | awayfromblue

Balenciaga Day bag in 2005 magenta pink with cobalt knit | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue Instagram | monochrome blue outfit jacquard pencil skirt cobalt knit with pink accessories skull scarf Balenciaga day bag

ScarfAlexander McQueen modal skull scarf in white/pink
Top: blue Mossman knit jumper
SkirtWarehouse navy jacquard pencil skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats
BagBalenciaga Day bag in 2005 magenta

Why I wore it:

When I thrifted this bright blue knit a while back I didn't anticipate I'd wear it with this magenta Balenciaga day bag quite so much! I really love the way the bag pops against the blue, particularly in a monochrome outfit like this with the navy skirt as well as the blue jumper. Black ballet flats were the best choice with the bright top and accessories!

It was a warmer morning so I went without a jacket - the jumper is a thick knit and this cream and pink Alexander McQueen skull scarf is quite cosy being modal. It's more of a neon pink than the magenta pink of the Balenciaga bag, so the colours don't match exactly, but they are so complimentary they look great worn together.

Last worn: tassel earringspink skull scarf, blue knit, jacquard pencil skirt, black ballet flats, Balenciaga magenta day bag.

Other ways to wearpink skull scarf with stripes, blue knit and maxi skirt, jacquard pencil skirt in summer, black ballet flats and printed dress, Balenciaga magenta day bag for travel.

Perfect for pregnancypink skull scarf in second trimester, jacquard pencil skirt in first trimester, black ballet flats in second trimester, Balenciaga magenta day bag in third trimester.

Why I wore it:

What a day! I had the dentist after work, so I was planning to get in a little earlier than usual and leave earlier. It was a cold morning so bundled up in my cosy grey polka dot foil knit, fleece lined tights and navy mac coat. With my Balenciaga tempete day bag, I wanted to pick a similarly coloured scarf and went with this baby blue Alexander McQueen skull scarf.  While they are different shades of blue I think they compliment each other nicely! The silver ballet flats matched the hardware on the bag and the foil polka dots on my jumper, but I didn't do much walking!

There was a police incident and traffic quickly came to a standstill. After being on the bus for an hour and not even reached the half way mark on my trip I realised we weren't going to make it into the city in time for my morning meeting (then an hour away) so I called my boss, got permission to work from home and asked the bus driver to drop me off at the next bus stop, which we could see just 100 meters away. 15 minutes later we pulled up to the bus stop! The traffic was that slow! Eventually I made it home, only 10 minutes late for my 9am meeting ... after a terribly flustered meeting without my usual hour of early morning prep before it I had the rest of the day to try catch up on everything, before heading to the dentist. Not the best of days!

Printed Shift Dresses With Colourful Scarves and Balenciaga Pink City Bag In Winter

I like colourful handbags and accessories, especially in winter to add some colour to winter layers! Today I'm sharing two very different printed shift dresses with my sorbet pink Balenciaga city bag, some colourful scarves and denim jackets. Oh, and an update on my #noBuyJuly challenge.

What I wore:

navy striped shift dress with denim jacket purple leopard print scarf and sorbet pink balenciaga city bag | awayfromblue

Balenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet | awayfromtheblue

away from blue instagram | day out with Thomas ipswich rail museum outfit striped tee dress leopard print scarf denim jacket glitter sneakers
JacketJeanswest Kitty denim biker jacket
Scarf: Sportsgirl animal scarf in violet
DressAtmos&Here navy stripe tee dress with leggings underneath
Shoes: Kmart sparkly silver glitter sneakers
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs black leather Swarovski beaded wrap bracelet
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

Wore this to take the boys out to their favourite museum - the Ipswich Rail Museum. For the winter school holidays back at the start of June, they had their usual 'Thomas and Friends' show, which the boys love. Trains and Thomas, perfect for them! We try and go once each time it's on.

Wanted something easy and comfortable for the day of walking around, this comfy striped tee dress is a fave and easily winterised with the leggings, purple leopard print scarf and denim jacket. It was a little bit windy and I did get cold ankles at some points, but I was still happy with this outfit. Perfect for a day running around various exhibits.

With the purple leopard print scarf, I thought the sorbet pink Balenciaga city bag was a great accessory - and it fit everything I needed to carry as well as my camera for the day. You can see what fits inside the city bag in my video below.

Last worn: denim moto jacket, purple leopard print scarf, striped tee dress, sparkly sneakers, Balenciaga sorbet city bag.

Other ways to weardenim moto jacket and jeans, purple leopard print scarf with purple bag, striped tee dress with mustard cardi, sparkly sneakers and shorts, Balenciaga sorbet city bag and pencil skirt.

What's In My Bag: Balenciaga Sorbet City Bag

What I wore:

DressJeanswest Nikki printed shirt dress
ShoesAsos Cleo leather boots in tan
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

Again, another printed shift dress! This one has a fun geometric print on it with tiny pink ovals, so I always seem to gravitate towards pink accessories when I wear it! Even if the pink is hard to see in a photo. Thought this hot pink scarf would look nice with the print, along with the sorbet Balenciaga city bag, even if the shades of pink aren't the same. I like a little matchy matchy by wearing similar coloured pieces together.

Again just a simple denim jacket on top - the tall tan boots kept me cosy along with the fleecy tights and despite the cold start to the morning it was warmer when we left church.

Last worn: denim jacket, pink crinkle scarf, dangly earrings, geometric print shift dress, tall tan boots, Balenciaga sorbet city bag (above).

Other ways to weardenim jacket and maxi skirt, pink crinkle scarf in the snow, geometric print shift dress and sandals, tall tan boots and jeans, Balenciaga sorbet city bag and kimono.

A printed shift dress is a fun piece to wear in winter, with a few modifications! Both these dresses have long sleeves, and with cosy leggings and a scarf it makes a warmer outfit on a colder day.

No Buy July 19 Update

It was tricky not buying anything in July! I'd looked back at the purchases I'd made over the year in June and seen I bought more than I should have, so I was sure that No Buy July was the right thing to do. The sales were so tempting though, and hard to resist, especially when the Rebecca Minkoff sale got to 75% off and Jeanswest had a further 50% off sale items!

I did manage to make it through the month of July with no fashion purchases! I'm pleased I was able to stick to the challenge and I think I'll do it again next year too, making it the fifth year I've done No Buy July.
