What I wore:
Necklace: thrifted pearl and heart charm long necklace
Knit: thrifted blue Mossman knit jumper
Dress: Kmart Tropicana sleeveless tiered maxi dress
Shoes: slim navy and pink Havaianas
Why I wore it:
For my son's birthday party I wanted something simple but warm for the cooler morning, although I did find the knit a bit warm over the afternoon when it warmed up. Last time I wore this knit I mentioned how it was a bit of a pain being cropped as I wore it with low rise jeans. It works so much better over dresses and I liked the blue colour with the coral dress.
Wearing my new heart stud earrings I felt this layered heart charm necklace was a good matchy-matchy choice! I didn't actually wear the Havaianas though, as I spent all day inside with the party I didn't need to wear any shoes and I just put these on to go outside for the photo.
It was a good day even if we only had a few family members over to celebrate to stick to the COVID safety rules.
Last worn: blue cropped jumper, layered heart charm necklace, tropical print maxi dress, Havaianas. First time I've worn the earrings as they were a recent gift.
Other ways to wear: blue cropped jumper and purple jeans, tropical print maxi dress for Christmas.
Perfect for pregnancy: blue cropped jumper and hidden baby bump.
Rebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford: What's In My Bag
What I wore:
Necklace: Jeanswest Taryn turquoise tassel bead necklace
Knit: thrifted Spirit grey marle jumper
Dress: Jeanswest 'Chantelle' crochet detail blue printed maxi dress
Shoes: Converse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight
Why I wore it:
Since I liked the jumper over the maxi dress outfit above I decided to try it again another week with this grey asymmetrical knit over the blue maxi dress. I wasn't too sure at first about the prints together but I think they really worked, the space dye effect on the knit looks almost like stripes and I wear stripes with everything!
My plan was to knot this knit over my dress, the asymmetrical hem is perfect for that. When I put the jumper on though I realised it looked quite nice over the top without being knotted. I was hoping for flowy rather than sloppy, and I'm not 100% convinced I nailed it looking at the pics, but I loved the relaxed vibe of this outfit and it was so comfortable to wear. I was really happy with it!
Added the little Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford cross body bag to keep my hands free while out shopping with my sister. I had a voucher to spend and she was on a mission to buy some new clothes. I did try on a couple things but decided to spend my voucher on more clothes for the kids instead. 😂
Last worn: grey marle knit asymmetrical hem jumper, turquoise tassel necklace, blue geometric print maxi dress, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag.
Other ways to wear: grey marle knit asymmetrical hem jumper and olive jeans, blue geometric print maxi dress with yellow, Converse and jeans, Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag with shorts.
Perfect for pregnancy: blue geometric print maxi dress at 39 weeks, Converse in second trimester.
Other ways to wear: grey marle knit asymmetrical hem jumper and olive jeans, blue geometric print maxi dress with yellow, Converse and jeans, Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag with shorts.
Perfect for pregnancy: blue geometric print maxi dress at 39 weeks, Converse in second trimester.
How You Can Wear It:
You don't need to pack your maxi dresses away when summer ends! You can make even a spaghetti strap maxi dress work for a cooler day by layering a knit over the top. You can go with a cropped style or keep it loose and flowy with an asymmetrical hem.

DeleteLove how you paired these dresses with the knits:) A great way to wear the maxi for winter! And the second outfit totally worked without the top being knotted:) It definitely has a boho-chic vibe.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday:)
Thanks Emmy, I need to try it untucked again, it was fun! :)

I used to layer jumpers with maxi dresses a lot when I was in high school. It was so convenient yet quite stylish.
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing especially with your beautiful smile!

So great that you get to wear your maxi dresses in winter too! Mild winters do sound like a dream!
ReplyDeleteEllibelle's Corner
I wish I could layer sweaters over dresses in the winter here - it's just a nice look. And it sounds like you managed to have a nice birthday party, COVID prevention measures and all. That's really great - we did a Zoom party for Eleanor but it would have been really great to have even just a few people over for an in-person celebration.
ReplyDeleteCourtney ~ Sartorial Sidelines
yes maybe more a spring or autumn option for you with all the snow! It's hard adjusting to virtual parties, hope things get safer and restrictions relaxed soon for you!
DeleteSo pretty! Love maxi dresses all year round <3
ReplyDeleteGreen Fashionista
I absolutely love the idea of layering a sweater over a summertime dress. That is genius! And both looks are so stunning. I especially love the top you wore in the second outfit. It looks so incredible on you!
ReplyDeletethe creation of beauty is art.
What a great idea to layer knits with maxi dresses. I like the boho chic feel of these combos. The red and blue combo of the first look is very fun and I also like the grey and blue colour combo with the second look. You look great in both of these outfits.
ReplyDeleteI love that floral skirt- you look sporty-chic and adorable:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous color on you! It brings out your eyes and enhances your hair color so beautifully. What a great way to wear your cropped sweater. I love when I discover different ways to wear pieces I love that may have not looked or felt good when worn one way. You don't feel as though you have to get rid of them and can make for a really interesting look. Happy Birthday to your boys!

What a great idea to layer knits with maxi dresses, I never thought of doing that. I love your first outfit in particular. So colourful and cheerful. That knit is such a gorgeous shade of blue! xxx
ReplyDeleteEverything looks very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love that red skirt, it could be combined with so many things! And I love reading posts about an Australian winter wardrobe because you could probably get away with wearing most of the looks in the average British summer x

Haha yes we have a very warm climate here in Brisbane most of the time!
DeleteI'm so bad about layering with my summer dresses to wear them in fall/winter
ReplyDeleteOh yes layering knits over maxi dresses is a great way to get more use out of your summer threads and also look like you got something new. Your hair is getting long, and I like it curly.

Both of these work so well! I think the second outfit works perfectly because space dye is almost more of a color or texture than a print. The bright colors in your first outfit are so pretty on you!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! I love that bright blue sweater on you. I have a maxi skirt that I love but now it's too big, so I'm hoping to tighten the waist so I can wear it again!

haha yes you need a few more layers! Thank you, he had a lovley day.
DeleteLove both outfits - 2nd one is my favorite, especially the sweater. I'm wearing more soft, comfortable skirts during this stay at home time. As I'm working on the computer more I find they are more comfortable for sitting.

ReplyDeleteI'm enraptured with your beautiful blue jumper over your maxi - what a gorgeous outfit! Ha, I just looked at the temps in Brisbane (13 degrees) and compared to here today (16!). We are only 3 degrees warmer and it's summer. You better bring a ton of jumpers if you ever visit me! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'll be joining up with your linky-party shortly. Thank you for hosting!

ReplyDeleteHey cutie pie!! What a great way to get more wear and mileage from a maxi. I just cannot think outside the box. So glad to have others do the hard work for me. Will try to remember this when our temps start to dive. That vibrant blue is so lovely on you and that print is happy for your baby's b'day.

Love your colour and your style. Even in winter Brisbane is often too hot for me. I suspect the jumper would get very rare outings.
ReplyDeleteWe do have some cold days so I'm thankful I have a collection of knits!
DeleteCreative layering is such a fantastic way of wearing your summer wardrobe pieces during the cooler months. I'm loving the gorgeous print and vibrant colors of that first dress. Hope your son had a lovely birthday!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to wear a dress and still keep warm at night! You look so cute in both looks!

Love that colour of the bag, no worrying about colour transfer. And your first combo of jumper and floral skirt is really nice, it looks like cotton candy vibe.

I love how you wore both dresses! The colors look so lovely.
ReplyDeleteHere, if I do wear a maxi dress in the winter, I have to add a lot of layers underneath as well as on top, but it's still a nice change.

This is a trick I learned on your blog years ago - so helpful in winter.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you find it helpful! :)
DeleteCute and cozy! Perfect outfits for a warm winter! I love your wavy hair in the first picture too!
ReplyDeleteLoving both the outfits you wore. I like the first one more. It is so colorful and pretty. Happy belated birthday to your son. Hope you had a great day. :-)

I love both of those tops they look so good on you, and they also look so comfortable. I hope that your son had a good party and birthday. :)
ReplyDeletelove is zero
I love your wavy hairstyle in the first outfit. OMG! I don't think I've seen you wearing a wavy do and you look fabulous, Mica. The blue sweater goes with the pretty floral maxi and your matchy-matchy earrings and necklace add just the right amount of sparkle. I love it! The second look with the marle sweater is so cozy, I'd wear it when it's cold. Whether you knot it or not (hehehe punny), I like the flowy vibe of the look! Wishing you a lovely weekend :) xoxo
ReplyDeleteThank you, I need to try style my hair more often!
