30 Ways To Wear: Cobalt Leather Moto Jacket
I first saw this leather jacket in a magazine I'm sure - as much as I loved Wittner shoes for leather shoes for work I wasn't a regular visitor of their website. But once I'd seen it, I could not get it out of my head. It was an online only piece so no chance of trying it on in store, and I spent weeks mulling it over before buying. Wittner is a shoe brand and only did jackets for a couple of years I think - hard to find out much info as it was so long ago I bought this. So glad I did buy it though, all the way back in 2013! I've seen it online called both Santa Fe which I label it on my blog, or Sante Fe as the email receipt says. Since it was so long ago I don't have any tags to confirm, but searching online for both names shows that at one point they made this jacket in black too. I do love the cobalt blue though!
Cost Per Wear
While winter in Brisbane doesn't last that long I like wearing my leather jackets on the super cold days. As a result this only gets worn a few times a year, so it's taken me quite a while to pass 30 wears with it! It's currently at 36 wears.
This jacket is one of my rare full price buys, and aside from my wedding dress, it's the most I've ever paid for an item of clothing. It was a huge $299.95, and never went on sale so I'm glad I splurged on it full price! At 36 wears it's $8.33 a wear currently, which is a lot higher than the 'under $1 per wear' figure most people aim for to get "value for money". But with just 36 wears in 8 years, and so few really cold winter days in Brisbane, I expect it to last so much longer in my wardrobe. It is definitely an investment piece I never see myself giving up!
Because this is a 30 ways to wear post, I narrowed it down and as usual just chose 30 of my favourite ways I've worn this, from 2013 to now.
Cobalt Leather Jacket With Neutrals
The easiest way to wear any item that's a big bold block of colour: wear it with neutrals! White, grey, black, all work so well with this jacket as it lets the jacket be the statement piece in your outfit.
Cobalt Leather Jacket With Purple
I really like blue and purple together and these 4 outfits illustrate that any shades combine well! From a lilac tee to a deep sapphire bag, or even 3 shades of purple like that last outfit there with the different accessories, it's just such a good combination.
Cobalt Leather Jacket With Red
This is another fun colour combination, that is a really bright one too. Red and blue are another power combo together, and against the cobalt jacket red really pops! Even something as small as a little red accessory like a bag or scarf looks fantastic with the bright blue.
Blue Leather Jacket With Yellow
Like red and blue above, yellow is a fun combination but surprisingly one I haven't worn all that much with this jacket! I like wearing yellow as it's such a cheerful colour and I find it looks so good with the cobalt - from a bright mustard like the clutch bag in the middle there, to a pastel yellow like the tees.
Cobalt Leather Jacket With Pink
As much as I enjoy the other colour combinations with this jacket, saving the best for last here as blue and pink together always makes me smile! As with the previous colours I shared above, again I find any shade of pink (or even multiple shades of pink) are nice against the cobalt. From magenta to hot pink to pastel pink, it all just works so well.
Blue Moto Leather Jacket With Maxis
Jeans and a leather jacket is a style staple and one I've worn quite a lot with this jacket, but it's good to try different things too and I find that maxi skirts and dresses are a nice pairing with the leather jacket. A leather jacket is a great topper with a maxi skirt or dress on a cooler day.
Cobalt Leather Jacket With Dresses
While pink and blue is my favourite colour combination, a leather jacket and dress has to be my favourite outfit pairing. Much like the maxi dresses above, you can't go wrong with a cute little dress and a leather jacket. Add some tights and boots and a scarf if it's really cold too and you're snuggly and warm for winter.
Similar Blue Moto Jackets
Normally I'd include where you could get the look under $50 but, much like this cobalt jacket of mine, the available options I could find are definitely in the splurge category! Here are some similar pieces, most at lower prices than I paid for mine, but all unfortunately above the bargain $50 price point.

I think I made a mistake when I bought my moto jacket, it feels kind of bulky and I doubt I'll ever get 30 wears from it. Cobalt can be a tough color to wear but you've paired it with so much - so creative and great cost per wear!

I love the color and how you matched it!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great jacket! I love how many ways and different colors you've worn this jacket with!
ReplyDeleteThis is truly the definition of "investment piece," Mica! Cobalt is such a versatile colour, and it really goes with everything! I wondered as I browsed through your photos, if it would fun to point out "the worst ways" or least successful ways you've worn it? Y'know, kind of a "lessons learned" sort of thing?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I think you've done amazingly well over 8+ years in getting to 36 wears on this, and your $8-ish average is really good. I always look at that average and think, "Would I pay that to wear this?" and it's nearly always a "yes!"
I'm so excited now that I have my own blue moto jacket (I am just tickled when I'm twins with one of my blogger friends!), and I've been holding off wearing it until I switch my closet over to Northern Hemisphere's fall season (today!!).
Big hugs to you across the Pacific, darlin'.
Oh that would be a good idea with the lessons learned! I often think it when I'm putting the posts together, I'll try work it into them in future! :)
DeleteAlso I'm so thrilled to see you've already worn your blue jacket, it looks great on you!

Oh burgundy would be a great colour too! I'd love to add more colourful leather jackets to my wardrobe, but there are so few truly cold days here. Maybe in another couple of years!
DeleteYou look fabulous in all.
ReplyDeleteEs muy bonita, me gusto como la combinaste, saludos:D
ReplyDeleteYes, the end of winter is when you'll have tallied a lot of winter wears. Just like I could tally all of my sandals and shorts wears now that things are (supposedly) cooling off. (It was 32C today.)
ReplyDeleteA great investment piece, indeed! I don't mind splurging on items like this since we have just as many cold months as we do warm months in Indiana, so I get equal wear out of both warm and cooler weather clothing. That color blue is to die for!
ReplyDeleteit's good you have more balanced seasons so you get equal wear - I feel my winter things are so rarely worn!
DeleteWhat an attractive blue!! It is looking stunning on you and like always you styled it effortlessly with so many colors and dresses. Love it.
ReplyDeleteWe are on vacation in Seattle and so happy that we got to travel after ages. :-)

DeleteThis colour is so fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThis jacket has such a lovely shade that I think I'll buy one myself!
ReplyDeleteHope you find it as practical as I've found this one!
DeleteI love the color! It being a jacket, you won't outgrow it which is another reason for it being a good purchase: definitely pricey but if you still have it in your closet then a good buy.

yes, this was really a splurge, but so glad I went for it!
DeleteJust shows you how incredibly versatile a gorgeous piece like this can be. And the colour is absolutely beautiful.

What a great investment piece! So classic with a fun twist. You are so mindful of sales the rest of the time that it all balances out, right? ;) This makes me wonder what I still wear from 2013... actually, I think my current winter coat is from 2014! There's something about coats, I guess!
ReplyDeletehaha yes I wasn't always shopping the sales as much as I do now, but I think my shopping less and sticking to a budget in recent years balances it out! I think coats last a long time in our wardrobes :)
DeleteI really loved your outfits.
ReplyDeleteThe jacket is so beautiful.

Hello Mica, I hope you're having a good beggining of the month so far!
ReplyDeleteI think this is one of my favorites "30 ways to wear a...." because I really like moto/biker jackets and that specific tone of blue is so special and catchy! I don't know the brand Santa Fe but despite the price I think you made a really good choice!
I see a lot of possibilities with this jacket, and I'm sure (once covid is over) you could wear it during a trip to a colder place! Also the color really matches your attitude and the way you use color palettes on the blog and in your daily life :)

Thanks Pablo, I'm glad you enjoyed it! It is a good investment I think, it has been worn a lot and I will continue to! It would be fun to wear it on a trip to a colder place once the Australian borders are open again!
DeleteI love the jacket, it really does add a nice pop of colour to your outfits. The blue really suits you too!

That certainly is a very versatile jacket :-D
ReplyDeleteLove the cobalt blue!
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the jacket-dress combo; you can't go wrong with that. However, my favorite outfit is the one with jacket, pants and the red tee (black pendant or print?). It's both casual and elegant!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's a necklace, although it sadly broke so I don't have it any more.
DeleteThe jacket is beautiful! Love it with neutrals and pink.

DeleteThank you all for your kind comments :)
ReplyDeleteThat jacket is gorgeous! I love the bright color. I hope you get many more wears out of it :)

I absolutely love the bright blue and all the ways you've styled this! In my cost per wear spreadsheet, under $10 is a good place to be for pricier items. My goal is always under $5 but sure, less than $1 per wear would be great too! Love this post, and thanks for joining my linkup.
