30 Ways To Wear A Neon Pink Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC

Happy Easter! I hope you have a fun weekend celebrating, we will be, with our 3 day lockdown lifted early.

I love putting together 30 ways to wear posts with my bags as I always have so many old outfit photos to look through to narrow it down to just 30 outfits I've worn! Each month, I look through my blog archive of daily outfit photos and find things I've worn 30 ways or more to put these posts together. Inspired by The True Cost documentary that says we should aim to wear each thing we buy 30 times or more to reduce the impact of our fashion purchases.

Today it's the turn of this beautiful little neon pink Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag!

30 Ways To Wear A Neon Pink Bag

30 Ways To Wear Rebecca Minkoff mini mac neon pink crossbody bag | awayfromblue

This cute neon pink Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC was an impulse buy back in May 2016. I'd seen the auction relisted a few times on eBay but the bag looked pretty worn. In the end I decided to go for it, it was under $30 even including shopping, and I reasoned I could redye it if the condition was too poor. It is a very worn bag but it's also an awesome shade so I just decided to wear it anyway. I know it will eventually get to the point it's too worn to wear and will need some TLC, but right now all people see (and compliment!) is that amazing bold neon colour!

Cost Per Wear

At $29.75, and having been worn 37 times, this bag is down to just 80 cents a wear, which is pretty good! And I intend to get quite a few more wears from it before I go down the redye route. For a bright and bold hot pink bag I didn't expect it would be as versatile as it has been in my wardrobe! I've worn it with a few different outfit options but I thought today I'd focus just on the colours I've worn it with to give you some ideas and inspiration for how you can add some neon pink to your outfit. Neon seems to come back as a "trend" every couple of years!

30 Ways To Wear: Video Style

Neon Pink Bag With Black Outfits

This bag is a very bright neon pink and it doesn't really need any help to pop in an outfit. But it really stands out with black! It's a fun way to lighten up a black outfit and is such an easy way to wear it.

Neon Pink Mini MAC with Grey Tee Outfits

Another neutral this pink mini MAC bag works with is grey. I've worn my grey tees with the neon bag quite a few times, grey and pink is a lovely combination and this neon is a really bright way to do it.

Navy Outfits With Neon Pink Mini MAC

Just like the grey tee outfit above, blue and pink is another colour combination I wear frequently and I love the extra bold touch of navy and neon pink together. Just like I did with the other neutral outfits above, I sometimes add another little bit of pink in the outfit too but the mini MAC bag makes a great pop on its own against navy as well.

Olive Outfits With Neon Pink Bag

Pink and olive is a combo I never thought I'd try but once I gave it a wear once I was hooked and I find this really wearable! I like the contrast of the neutral olive and neon pink together. I particularly like wearing olive tops with this bag but my olive shorts work too!

Neon Pink Mini MAC With Other Shades of Pink

I don't have a lot of neon in my wardrobe and I certainly don't have a lot of neon pink! But I've found I can make my matchy-matchy outfits I so love when I try other shades of pink with the neon. Pastel pink printed jeans, a hot pink tank, even different shades of pink in a scarf all work well with this bag despite the shades being indifferent.

Purple With Neon Pink Mini MAC Bag

Pink and purple, much like pink and blue, are an easy combination and one I frequently rely on. As with the pink above I find any shade of purple, from a magenta cardigan to deep purple jeans, is such a pretty pairing.

Accessorising White Outfits With Neon Pink Bag

I don't have a lot of white in my wardrobe but I have worn this neon bag with white quite a lot! Like the black outfits I shared first, this bag really doesn't need a neutral base to pop as it does that all on its own. But it really stands out even more with a neutral base and white is another good colour choice to wear with neon pink. Perfect outfits for spring and summer.

November Purchases and Cyber Monday Sales

It feels like I just shared my October purchases, but we are nearly at the end of November already! If you are still Christmas shopping, I've included some Cyber Monday sale codes for you below along with my latest purchases. Many of the Black Friday sales I shared in my gift guide post are still active too!

What I Bought

I didn't buy much in November and stuck to trying to find things off of the clothing wishlist I shared last month. I ended up taking advantage of a Jeanswest sale and using a gift card I had to get two of the things off of my wishlist. Both the tank and shorts were things I'd been wanting for a while.

I was really lucky to have a partnership with Glue Store and recieved credit which I used to update my denim collection for Spring. I bought three things:

I wasn't sure if I should include the three items in this wrap up post or not, as they were items I received as part of a partnership. What do you think, do you want to see items like that in my monthly wardrobe updates? This is the first time it's happened in the 11 months I've being doing this type of post, so it won't be something that comes up a lot. I also got a maxi skirt from my mum as an early Christmas present I've been wearing frequently.

How I Wore It:

November purchases spring outfits | Away From Blue Blog

I'm really pleased with my purchases, and how much I've worn them. Everything got worn at least twice. I didn't spend much this month, using the gift card for most of my Jeanswest purchases and using the credit I was given for the other items. I have been focusing on buying gifts for others as Christmas approaches, and hoping for some clothing shaped presents or gift cards under the tree!

Cyber Monday Sales

As promised, a few Cyber Monday sale picks! In some cases these discounts are better than the Black Friday ones, so hopefully you can score that perfect item you've been wanting or save more money when buying Christmas gifts! Hurry though, a lot end tonight.

  • ASOS have 20% off everything with code 'GOGOGO'. If you're in the US use 'THANKFUL30' for 30% off. Everything means everything on site - including already reduced items!
  • Rebecca Minkoff has up to 75% off PLUS get 25% off your entire order when you spend $100 or more!

Happy shopping! How are you going with your Christmas list? I just have a couple more things to buy in-person, I did the last of my online shopping this weekend and I'm hoping everything arrives before Christmas! I need to make a start on wrapping next.

October Purchases and Clothing Wishlist

Almost the end of October already! Sharing what I bought and how I wore it.

Like I mentioned last monthOctober is Buy Nothing New month. I didn't meet the challenge as I couldn't resist the Shopbop sale...but I did browse more often in the op-shops (thrift stores). I managed to find some pieces I wanted there too.

A little over two years ago, I set myself a goal of wearing things twice in a month after buying them. I've recently changed that to wear things twice in the month that I buy them. It gives me less time to wear things if I buy them near the end of a month, and makes me think even more critically when I'm buying. Near the end of a month I have to think 'do I really need this?' and 'will I wear it twice in just a couple of weeks?'. Often I chose not to buy, which is great for my budget, and wardrobe!

So here's what I bought in October:

How I Wore It:

The only thing I haven't worn twice or more is the grey tee, but as mentioned in the video that's partly because I have a lot of grey tees and partly because I bought it so close to the end of the month.

Overall I think I did pretty well, especially after shopping so little over the past few months with #noBuyJuly and #noSpenderSeptember. It's made me use my own wardrobe more to see the gaps. While there are still some things I'd love to buy I haven't found the perfect pieces yet and so I'll keep looking. I'm going to try to not settle for anything less than perfect. It's not like I don't have any clothes to wear if I don't buy these things!

This is my current clothing wishlist:

  • white v-neck tee that isn't see-through
  • basic block colour relaxed fit tank without super low arm holes that show off a bra
  • boyfriend denim shorts (I miss my maternity ones!)
  • dresses I can breastfeed in
  • block colour maxi skirts

Pretty much just wanting to focus on adding more basics to my wardrobe! Would love recommendations if you know where I could find anything on my wishlist above.

Handbags and Strollers: The Easy Hack for Any Brand! Baby Jogger, Bugaboo, Steelcraft etc

If you've read my blog for any amount of time you'll know that I love my handbags! Despite having a toddler, infant, dog, stroller and baby bag, I'm still using and and carrying my bags. After a few months of just using the baby bag when my eldest son was born, I figured out how easy it is to carry a handbag with a simple hack for any stroller!

Picking a stroller can be difficult. You might know you want one of the many baby strollers by baby jogger because a friend recommended them, or you might have seen a celeb with a Bugaboo or maybe you've come across a Steelcraft on sale. When trying to pick one you need to consider weight, ease of use, accessories, lifespan...there's a lot!

The Australian government has a stroller buying guide that's really helpful. Here's what helped us narrow down the options:

  • Price - we started with a budget in mind
  • Weight - there is everything from lightweight to heavier than a toddler strollers
  • Ease of use - something foolproof to put up and down
  • Size - we needed a stroller that would fit in the car boot
  • Compatibility - we wanted a travel system so we looked for a stroller and travel capsule pack
  • Safety - as the stroller came with a baby capsule we checked the government ratings to find a safe one
  • Functionality - the ability to add another seat for a second baby and being able to change the direction the seat faced in were extra functions we liked.

I'm really happy with our Steelcraft Strider Compact stroller, but the one thing that I didn't think about when buying it was my handbags.

Having a baby doesn't mean you need to give up your handbags though. You know I have a lot of bags I wanted to use! I did think about how I'd juggle everything (baby, stroller, dog and baby bag) and figured I might just use my Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bags for a while as they slide nicely into the pockets on our baby bag.

I really needed an extra set of hands if I wanted to carry a bigger handbag with my things in it when we went out though. Throwing it into the base of the stroller was tricky get to when I was babywearing, and not all my handbags fit nicely into the baby bag or could be worn cross-body. When baby T was a few months old I found the solution to my problem.

All you need is a bag hook! It can be as simple as a carabiner or a specifically designed hook for your brand of stroller. Since I spent a few dollars on one it's made it easier to have my handbag with me when I'm out with the boys. When baby boy was born earlier this year, I kept on using and enjoying my handbags as I had that handy little hook!

It's the plastic clip you can see on the stroller handle in some of my pics. Such a simple solution, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who hadn't heard of it before. I get a few comments now and then from people wondering how I use more than just a baby bag with two boys. That little plastic hook on the stroller is my secret!

If you're a mum, how you carry your things? Only wear cross-body bags? Put what you need in the baby bag? Did you think about it when buying a stroller?

Monthly Purchases: May

Despite buying a few things in April, I managed to buy quite a bit in May. I focused mainly on accessories as clothes shopping so soon after birth is tricky - it's difficult enough guessing what in your own wardrobe will fit, never mind trying to pick the right size from a store!

Lots of impulse buys but everything that is sure to work in my wardrobe over winter. It still feels strange to think that winter is just a few days away, with autumn being so warm. The weather is cooling though, already we have caught our first cold of the season. So no full video this month, I've lost my voice! I did take a reveal of my Yoox sale purchases before I got sick, so you get to see some of the things I bought in action but not all.

What I bought in May

How I wore my purchases:

Away From Blue Blog May Purchases: Winter Wardrobe Update

I have a goal of wearing things twice in a month after buying them. It means that when I buy something I've thought of two different ways to wear it, and that I can wear it right away. By doing this I'm hoping to add things to my wardrobe that will actually be useful and worn frequently.

Just like last month, I bought a necklace I haven't worn yet as I'm avoiding necklaces in the early days of breastfeeding. I know I'll wear it a lot in future though, I wear the silver version often, and it's nice to have a gold one of Cooper to match with the gold initial necklaces I have for the boys.

While I found it easy to wear the cardi and the top, I found the scarves trickier. As it's been a mild autumn I've been wanting to maximise the wearing of my kimonos before it gets too cold. I can't wrap my head around a kimono and scarf outfit, so the scarves haven't been worn much yet. I know I'll be wearing the scarves a lot more over winter though.

Frocktober 2015 Wrap-Up! #31Days31DifferentDresses Style Challenge

I managed to wear an incredible 32 different dresses in October in order to raise funds for Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, even with the developing baby bump meaning I outgrew a few dresses in my wardrobe.

Thank you to everyone who donated! I was amazed that despite my modest $200 goal in the beginning, I raised over $600 for the cause! Thank you so much.

I wanted to do #31Days31DifferentDresses to fundraise for research into ovarian cancer. One woman dies every 10 hours from ovarian cancer. There is no early detection test, so people are often diagnosed when it is too late and the cancer has spread. More research could develop an early detection test, change those statistics and will make a difference.

While my challenge is wrapped up and done and I'll probably be staying away from the dresses for a while and enjoying the rest of my wardrobe, I'll still be posting some more outfits from the month on the blog into November. I couldn't let Frocktober end without a final wrap-up and call for donations though!

Below are my #31Days31DifferentDresses outfits, with a bonus 32nd dress!

Away From Blue Blog #31Days31DifferentDresses Style Challenge Pt1
With this first set of dresses, I was still trying as best as I could to hide the baby bump in photos. It was unmissable in person though!

In the second week of the challenge, I was beginning to feel a little frustrated with having nothing but dresses to wear, and a little concerned with how many dresses I was having to set aside as I'd outgrown them. I began to organise my little capsule wardrobe a bit better to make sure I'd have enough to wear for the month, which lead to me wearing some dresses I wasn't feeling comfortable or confident in, just because I wasn't sure I'd fit into them in a few days.

By the third week I was outgrowing even more dresses and was glad I had so many roomy maxi dresses in my wardrobe! I was also very kindly given two beautiful new maxi dresses from Jeanswest which gave me some more options.

The final stretch of the challenge! I'd saved a few favourite dresses for near the end, knowing I'd be feeling a bit large with the growing baby belly, and a little fed up by the lack of choice each day. Despite this, I even managed to wear an extra dress when I got changed for an evening out.

Outfit Posts:

There was just one dress that I still fit into that hadn't been worn in my wardrobe, not counting the maternity dresses I hadn't pulled out yet and the dresses I had to quickly set aside as they didn't fit a second trimester baby bump. So yes, I do have a lot of dresses!

Thank you again to everyone who donated - through my fundraising page or other means. Your advice, outfit ideas and inspiration, kind comments, and of course donations encouraged me to keep going with the challenge.
