Bright Tees and Boucle Jackets With Rebecca Minkoff Love Bag

Wearing some neutral outfits to the office lately, with lots of grey. Adding more interest to the outfits with brightly coloured tees and textured jackets.

What I wore:

Jacket: Jeanswest Dixie collarless jacket
EarringsMimco silver stud earrings
Necklace: thrifted Mix Apparel clover designer inspired necklace
Tee: Jeanswest essential v-neck tee in marigold
JeansNobody Denim Cult high rise skinny ankle jeans in charred grey
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey

Why I wore it:

This marigold tee can sometimes look really orange in person so I paired it with these charcoal grey Nobody Denim jeans, rather than any of my trusty black skinny jeans. I did add the black boucle jacket on top, but I think that worked well with the white thread through it so it didn't look too orange and black and Halloween themed!

I picked the grey Rebecca Minkoff quilted Love bag to wear with this as I wanted to match the neutrals in the majority of the outfit, but a brighter bag would have worked well with this I think. I also wasn't sure about the necklace - I often struggle to find the right necklace to wear with the rounded necklace of this jacket. But I got a lovely compliment from my colleague on this outfit that made me smile. Particularly because the only reason I'd worn such a bright tee that morning was due to a lack of sleep the night before, trying to fake looking awake!

What I wore:

Jacket: Jeanswest Cassandra jacquard jacket
Earrings: Kmart silver leaf drop chandelier earrings
Tee: Jeanswest essential v-neck tee in elfin yellow
Skirt: Target textured silver pencil skirt
Shoesthrifted white leather Chuck Taylor All Star Converse sneakers
BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey

Why I wore it:

There are a lot of textures in this outfit with the jacquard jacket, quilted pencil skirt and quilted Rebecca Minkoff Love crossbody bag. I liked the plain pastel yellow tee with all those neutral layers for just a little touch of colour. Just like the outfit above, I wasn't sure on a necklace. In the end I decided just to wear these silver statement earrings and skip wearing a necklace completely, which I really liked with this outfit.

Weekday Wear Link Up: Pink and Brown With Denim and Rebecca Minkoff Love Bag

Two pink and brown outfits for today's Weekday Wear Link Up! I've noticed a lot of bloggers wearing brown recently and always think "I have so little brown in my wardrobe" but I actually have a few brown pieces! Seeing the colour around so much was the perfect excuse to get these brown tanks out again and remind myself why I shouldn't have forgotten about them!

What I wore:

Rebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey with charcoal jeans blush blazer | awayfromtheblue

Jacket: Jeanswest Nadine 3/4 sleeve dusky pink blazer

Tank: Sass and Bide "For Easy Reference" tank
JeansNobody Denim Cult high rise skinny ankle jeans in charred grey
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey

Why I wore it:

More of a late autumn outfit than an end of summer outfit really, needing both jeans and a blazer! I wore this at the end of February, for a quiet Friday with the school run and working from home. With the downpour that started overnight the night before it was very cold and wet - jeans were a good choice and I added the blazer for warmth. Got absolutely drenched when dropping the kids off as school, but thankfully the blazer dried quickly, being made of rayon. With the rain continuing, we postponed some after school errands in favour of staying home and dry. Made some chocolate chip cookies to cheer us up with all the rain too. Hubby noted that water was starting to come over the roads on his way home.

Woke up the next morning to find out from our neighbour that the street was flooding. During one of our walks that weekend when the rain was lighter to check on the flood levels, we stumbled across a poor drenched and shivering little budgie under a bush! Little thing was so tired and scared, it let me pick it up and snuggled into my jumper. The next day, someone in the area was able to drive close enough to us that we could walk through the floods and give the budgie to him for more normal living arrangement in a proper bird cage (instead of the box we hastily constructed) until the owner could be found. Such a crazy weekend!

We ended up being flooded in for 3 days. We are so lucky our house stayed dry. We've been through floods before of course in other places, but after building this house just over 2 years ago it's never faced an extreme event like this before, and we've never had persistent floods since the boys were born. Lots of comparisons around here to Brisbane's 2011 floods, and lots of friends and neighbours who evacuated and so many many houses destroyed. If you want to, you can donate here to help.

Wear And Tear: Rebecca Minkoff Love Bag After 7 Years

Jacket: Jeanswest Polly kimono in dusty pink
Necklace: Kmart black and gold double strand beaded necklace
Tank: Jeanswest Rowena print tank

ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey

Why I wore it:

What a difference a few days makes! When I put outfit photos together for a post I could have worn the outfits anywhere from a day to weeks apart. While I wore these outfits just 3 days apart it felt a lot longer. It was the first day we could actually drive away from our house! The school was still closed because of the flooding but after I finished work for the day we were able to drive out to the grocery store to get a few essentials that we had run out of while flooded in. And we made sure to return some very overdue library books we were supposed to take back on Friday. When it was raining too bad to drive there on Friday I had naively thought the weather would be better on Saturday to return them, but of course we were flooded in.

Since I loved the pink and brown combo above I repeated it again! With a black distressed denim skirt this time, a brown animal print tank, and a pink kimono as it was a hot day. It was nice to have the sunshine again, and to see most of the flooding in our suburb dried up.

While I really loved the first outfit and thought I'd love this as it's almost exactly the same outfit formula, I think this was missing something. I debated which necklace to wear for a little bit that morning and maybe a different more statement one would have looked better with this, or tucking the tank into my skirt more.

Last worn: pink kimono, animal print tank, necklace, Nobody Denim skirt, New Balance sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff Love bag (above).

Other ways to wearpink kimono and stripes, animal print tank and pencil skirt, Nobody Denim skirt and orange tee, Rebecca Minkoff Love bag and maxi skirt.

How You Can Wear It:

Pink and brown are lovely together! Try adding a pink topper like a kimono or blazer over a brown tank.

Casual Christmas Maxi Skirt Outfits

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

Sharing two casual Christmas maxi skirt outfits I wore recently. The first one for our annual Christmas Eve family day, the second for a couple of Christmas parties. It has been a fun but busy December with all the get togethers.

What I wore:

casual Christmas eve outfit navy stripe maxi skirt festive reindeer tee red saddle bag | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red with festive ribbon bracelet navy stripe maxi skirt | awayfromtheblue

Earrings: Colette Ciao Bella glitter ball drop earrings
NecklaceSilhoupette gold plated Shih Tzu necklace
Tee: Merry Christmas reindeer antler tee
Skirt: Target navy side split maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
Bracelets: the usual plus Christmas ribbon bracelet
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red

Why I wore it:

This is what I wore on Christmas eve. The past few years I've worn the same tee on Christmas eve that my sister bought as part of a new tradition, a festive glitter Santa tee. This year I wanted to wear this reindeer tee mum made me - she made matching ones for us all, even the kids. I'd already worn this tee to the Christmas night at Movie Word theme park, and I knew that since it went so well with my red printed maxi skirt then, it would work well with this navy striped maxi skirt too.

This was the same skirt I wore last Christmas eve too - it's a very comfortable stretchy skirt. Perfect for Christmas crafts (machine washable!), making and decorating cookies, and for eating a lot of delicious food, spending time with family, and watching a Christmas movie. Once again we watched the Polar Express, as requested by my sons!

The little red saddle bag fit my wallet, phone, keys and camera, and was a nice matchy-matchy option with the red print on the tee.

Last worn: reindeer Christmas tee, gold bauble earrings, gold necklace, navy stripe maxi skirt, Havaianas, red studded saddle bag.

Tank: Jeanswest 'Darcy' embellished top in winter coral
Skirt: thrifted Crossroads black ruffle hem maxi skirt
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey

Why I wore it:

This was another fun, but very hot day, before the one above. We had a kids Christmas party in the afternoon and then a Christmas party with friends in the evening. Which we ended up having to leave early from unfortunately because the kids were just worn out from the huge day!

I figured with two parties in one day it was a good time to get this sequin tank out again. I've worn it to a Christmas party before, and to the office. It's the kind of piece you can wear year-round but it seems extra festive at Christmas time. I thought the black sequins would be so nice with this black maxi skirt. It's perfect for a hot day even though it's a dark colour because it's super light viscose. And thankfully it is easy to wash after there was lots of delicious food dropped and smeared all over it (at both parties!).

How You Can Wear It:

A maxi skirt is a great option on a hot day, especially if it's from a light material or has a slit up the side. Perfect for a backyard party, or a quiet day visiting family, they are easy to dress up or down.

What I Bought In August (And How I've Worn It) - Rebecca Minkoff Jumbo Love Bag

After achieving No Buy July I've been sticking firm to the Slow Fashion Season #FashionDetox challenge, which means buying no new fashion pieces from July to September. I'm really wanting to achieve that goal, and didn't see myself even doing much thrifting or second hand shopping for the 3 months, shopping that's allowed under the rules because it's not newly made.

But then I stumbled across a preloved bag for an amazing deal and just like I did in June, and March, and February... I impulse bought another handbag 😂 Maybe I need a handbag detox!

What I Bought:

This beautiful bag is the Rebecca Minkoff quilted jumbo Love bag in cobalt. It's a bag I've considered a few times over the years but the cheapest I've seen it on sale was $190 and I eventually thought too long even at that price and missed out on it. Being petite and wary of bigger structured bags I didn't want to spend a lot in case it was too big for me. It currently retails for $539 at David Jones so I'd always thought it would be a bag I wouldn't add to my collection.

But then I saw this second hand on Gumtree for just $50 - and knew I had to try it at that price! I do think it is a bit big for me, and I can't wear it crossbody like I do with my other love bags as it's down at my knees! But while it won't be a permanent addition to my handbag collection I plan to enjoy it for a while, the colour is amazing.

Given I don't see it being a staple for me and that I've found it a little tricky to style so far it's an impulse buy I probably shouldn't have bought, but I was so curious about this style and it's nice to have a jumbo Love bag to try. It also brings my total purchases so far this year to: 5 items of clothing, 4 bags and a wallet! 🤣 Definitely a bag buying year this year! They have all been second hand bag buys so I'm still just under budget.

How I've Worn It:

3 ways to wear rebecca minkoff cobalt jumbo love bag quilted leather | awayfromblue blog

If I was in the office more this would be the perfect office bag I think, but we are still under hybrid ways of working with it meaning working from home most of the time. I've tried to work this bag into more casual outfits, with varying rates of success. I'm determined to make this bag work though, it's just so beautiful!

Shorts, Sneakers, Cardigans and Rebecca Minkoff Love Bags

Layering up some shorts outfits for the start of winter (and the end of autumn) here in Queensland. A cardigan is a nice way to add a little extra warmth to shorts and a tee, but these are definitely my last shorts outfits for the season, it was the end of May and I was a little cold with bare legs in one of these outfits!

What I wore:

colourful autumn shorts outfit purple cardigan, pink tee, navy printed culottes, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff Love Bag | away from blue

Rebecca Minkoff quilted Love cross body bag in grey | away from the blue

Jacket: Jeanswest Peggie kimono cardigan in purple mulberry marle
Necklace: Kmart navy and gold beaded tassel necklace
Tee: Jeanswest essential v-neck tee in azalea pink
Culottes: Kmart culotte short in navy lemon print
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey

Why I wore it:

This is the outfit that made me realise it was time to pack the shorts away for winter! It was a very cold morning and didn't really warm up as much as I'd wished. Thankfully we weren't outside too much - just a quiet day with the kids, grabbing a couple extra groceries for the weekend and visiting the library.

I really like pink, purple and blue together so while I didn't find this outfit warm enough, I did love the colour combo! The purple cardigan looks great with the pink tee, and it's not the first time I've worn this pink tee with these printed culottes. Even though the pink in the print is a different shade, the tee and culottes work well together.

Comfortable Converse for a little bit of driving around and just a small handbag as we weren't out long - this neutral grey Rebecca Minkoff love bag was a nice choice with all the colour in the print.

Shorts: Jeanswest Tessa olive embroidered shorts
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
BagRebecca Minkoff chevron quilted small Love crossbody bag in pale coral

Why I wore it:

Unlike the outfit above, this was the perfect choice for the day, as I wore this back in warmer autumn days. At one point I felt the cardigan was a bit warm - it is a very thick knit. Again I spent most of my time inside. I'd swapped my work days around that week to meet some project deadlines (I only work part time) which left me with a very rare day off that was also kid free. It was nice to just head out with the essentials - phone, wallet, keys and hand sanitiser. This little Rebecca Minkoff small love bag is perfect for that and I really liked the pale coral colour, which is really more of an orange, against the olive embroidered shorts.

Comfortable outfit for ticking a few things off my to do list, like buying a couple of extra birthday presents for my son without him or my younger one noticing! And then binge watching a few Superstore episodes on Netflix in the afternoon. Such a luxurious and relaxing day!

Last worn: black wrap cardigan, silver circle necklace, navy stripe tee, olive embroidered shorts, New Balance sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff small Love bag in pale coral.

Other ways to wearblack wrap cardigan and jeans, navy stripe tee and skull scarf, olive embroidered shorts with yellow, Rebecca Minkoff small Love bag in pale coral and matching tee.

Perfect for pregnancyblack wrap cardigan and hidden baby bump, navy stripe tee in third trimester.

How You Can Wear It:

A light cardigan is a cosy topper over a shorts and tee outfit when the weather isn't quite warm enough for bare arms and legs. Great for autumn or spring!

Striped Tanks And Maxi Skirts With Rebecca Minkoff Crossbody Bags | Weekday Wear Link Up

Keeping things super simple for more hot days a couple weeks ago with striped tanks and block colour maxi skirts. Both maxi skirts were lucky opshop finds and they work well with the striped tanks! Not that you can really go wrong with stripes.

What I wore:

navy maxi skirt and Rebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta | awayfromblue

Necklace: thrifted magenta pink statement beaded necklace
TankAtmos & Here Oregon stripe tank
Skirt: thrifted navy viscose drawstring no label maxi skirt
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta

Why I wore it:

I like black and navy together - although I used to think that they were two colours you should never wear together, so silly! I liked the black and white stripes with the navy skirt but this outfit felt like it was missing a little colour, so I added the magenta Rebecca Minkoff Edie cross body bag and then went a little matchy-matchy with the magenta statement necklace. I haven't been wearing a lot of my statement necklaces recently, it's not my first choice in the summer heat, but I have been missing them so gave this one another wear. It's a pretty close match to the magenta of the Edie bag too!

Wore this for a normal busy mum day - helping out in my son's class in the morning, a trip to the library and the playground with my youngest, and sports in the evening after school pickup. There was a nice breeze so this maxi skirt with knee high slits was a good choice!

Last worn: black and white striped tank, magenta statement necklace, navy maxi skirt, studded sandals, Rebecca Minkoff magenta Edie bag.

Other ways to wearblack and white striped tank and blazer, navy maxi skirt and leopard print, studded sandals and little black dress, Rebecca Minkoff magenta Edie bag and kimono.

Perfect for pregnancystudded sandals in second trimester.

Skirt: thrifted Tree of Life ochre maxi skirt

BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey

Why I wore it:

Surprisingly I hadn't worn this striped tank and ochre maxi skirt together before! Such a simple combination and a nice way to hit 30 wears with this tank! I recently posted all 30 ways I've worn this striped tank.

This was again a nice simple outfit for a busy day, with the school run and working from home. I felt my Rebecca Minkoff Love bag was due another wear so I got it out, even if it only went as far as between the car park and school and kindy!

I've worn this tortoiseshell tassel necklace with the ochre skirt before, I like the colour combination, and this necklace looks great with stripes too for a little extra print mix.

How You Can Wear It:

With a plain, block colour maxi skirt, a striped tank is a great pairing for a little extra interest with your outfit. Nice and cool for a hot summer day too!

Dresses Worn Outside The Box: Magnificent 8

It's another Magnificent 8 post! Every quarter a group of us from multiple different age groups pick a theme and all style it in our own unique ways, showing you can be stylish at any age! This time we are sharing ways to wear clothes outside of the box. With it being a hot summer I wasn't going to layer up or wear anything drastically different, so I ended up falling back on my usual go-to way of mixing things up - taking a dress and wearing it a little differently!

Today I'm showing you how I wear a shirt dress as a kimono, and also how I wear a dress as a top. Such simple outfits but it really changes up the look of the dresses! I did wear these outfits a while ago, as I only take and share photos of outfits I actually wear on the blog and for some reason I had the wrong date in my head and this post was supposed to be last week, so I wore the outfits in advance of that!

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

I wore this on the day our 3 day lockdown was announced in Brisbane. Unfortunately when I heard the news I'd been wondering when the best time that day would be to go out and get another loaf of bread as we were about to run out. I wasn't the only one suddenly needing groceries that day...had to join the longest line and wait over 35 minutes just to get into the grocery store. Thankfully I still had my pick of bread, they were restocking lots over the store and everyone was polite - I saw most people like myself only needing a few things, no overflowing trolleys.

Did like my outfit for the day though even if it was a bit of a confusing day that definitely didn't go as planned. Having to tell my kids that our weekend plans and much looked forward to party were cancelled was pretty tough but truly 3 days was nothing! It was a nice long weekend at home before the lockdown was lifted as expected when there were no more cases.

I've worn this dress as a kimono before, and have worn it with this tee before too! Sometimes I worry this shirt dress can be a little short with the curved hems, so wearing it as a kimono over shorts instead is a great alternative. And it does work so well with this burgundy tee! The black Bermuda shorts matched the black in the print of the dress, as well as my sneakers. I wore my New Balance sneakers as my intention was to go for a walk around my favourite trail after quickly stopping at the grocery store but I decided it was probably best to get home and have an early start to lockdown after that hectic and time consuming experience! 😂

Other Ways I've Worn These Dresses:

5 ways to think outside the box and wear a dress differently ways to wear and remix | awayfromblue

What I wore:

Chloe periwinkle small Paraty with distressed denim shorts | away from the blue

awayfromtheblue Instagram | floral print tee dress worn as a top with denim shorts converse chloe paraty bag

Dress
Atmos & Here Willow printed tee dress (worn as a top)
Shorts: thrifted Jeanswest distressed denim shorts
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star coast blue
BagChloe periwinkle small Paraty

Why I wore it:

This was another rare kid-free time! Again the boys were with their grandparents and I had a massive to do list to tackle so I dressed simply with my comfortable Converse and another pair of denim shorts. With the blue Chloe small Paraty bag this would be a bit monochromatic so I thought this tee dress would be a fun way to add a bit more colour, with the bright floral print!

Again this isn't a new combination for me, this tee dress felt a bit short when the kids were little and crawling around everywhere, so I'd wear it as a top then. It also looks great worn under a pencil skirt for the office, where it would definitely be too short to wear on its own! It did seem to bunch up a bit when I was taking a photo but I didn't mind as I wore this through the day - it was so comfortable and the bright print so cheerful!

Unlike the day above, I managed to get a lot done in the precious few kid free hours I had on this day!

How You Can Wear It:

You don't have to wear a dress simply as a dress! Shirt dresses can be unbuttoned and worn like a kimono or duster depending on the length of your dress. A cute printed dress can be tucked into a pair of shorts and worn like a top too - great for a busy day of running around where you don't want to be tugging at the hem of a dress all day, or just for a way to change up how you style a favourite dress.
