Back to sharing my corporate style for this week's Weekday Wear Link Up! The return to work was a big shift, after 6 weeks of long service leave. I picked some simple fit and flare dresses to wear, layering underneath them with black long sleeve tees to make them work in the colder winter mornings.
What I wore:
Dress: Jeanswest 'Rita' stripe jersey dress (with Jeanswest black long sleeve henley tee underneath)
Shoes: Walnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey
Why I wore it:
It was a big adjustment returning to work after 6 weeks off! I added the scarf not just for warmth in the morning but also because I thought it would be fun to wear a little piece from my trip, and I picked this scarf up in Disneyland Paris. As well as the scarf, I had my fleece-lined tights and long sleeve tee to layer up and keep me cosy on the colder winter commute. It was a busy day and a lot to get used to again in the office - while I've been away for 18 months before on maternity leave, I found this 6 week gap harder to get used to - I think because of the work my team was on being so different from what it was before I went on leave.
Last worn: Mickey Mouse scarf, plain black tee, striped dress, Walnut Melbourne ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff MAM bag.
Other ways to wear: Mickey Mouse scarf and jeans, striped dress and blazer, Walnut Melbourne ballet flats and pencil skirt, Rebecca Minkoff MAM bag worn 30 ways.
Perfect for pregnancy: striped dress in second trimester, Walnut Melbourne ballet flats in third trimester, Rebecca Minkoff MAM bag in third trimester.
What's In My Bag: Rebecca Minkoff MAB Mini
What I wore:
Dress: Jeanswest tucked ponte black dress with thrifted Maison Scotch black paint splatter print long sleeved tee underneath
Shoes: Marc by Marc Jacobs suede flats in red
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey
Why I wore it:
I followed the same outfit formula for my next day back in the office - this time layering a printed long sleeve tee under my black sleeveless fit and flare dress. I felt the print was a bit too subtle with the dress though, so decided to add some colour with accessories. These red suede ballet flats always make me smile when I wear them, but they are worn so rarely as I usually prefer neutral shoes. I really need to make more of an effort to wear them! With the flat red beaded necklace adding a little pop of colour, this was such an easy way to accessorise.Last worn: printed long sleeve tee, red beaded necklace, black fit and flare dress, red ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff MAM (above).
Other ways to wear: printed long sleeve tee and green pants, black fit and flare dress in summer, red ballet flats and pencil skirt, Rebecca Minkoff MAM and printed jeans.
Perfect for pregnancy: black fit and flare dress in second trimester, red ballet flats in second trimester, Rebecca Minkoff MAM and jeans.
Sleeveless Fit and Flare Dresses Under $50:
How You Can Wear It:
You can still wear your sleeveless dresses in cooler weather! It's so easy to layer a long sleeved tee underneath, and a winter coat on top if it's really cold. It's a nice way to make your summer wardrobe work in winter.Weekday Wear Linkup #24

Hi! yes I donated my hair at the start of the year :) You can see more in my sidebar :)
DeleteUgh, it would be hard to return to work after a nice, long leave so it was a good idea to wear the scarf from your fun family trip! I'm sure it made things just a bit easier. Hope you've adjusted now to being back.
ReplyDeleteHave a super week!
xo,
Kellyann
Thanks, I have started to get back into the routine :)
DeleteThese are both such lovely outfits, Mica! Both dresses are such pretty and versatile pieces. I love your scarf in the first outfit and the touches of red in your second outfit. Love the starry backdrop! :) Love that bag too! Hope you have a wonderful week ahead, Mica! XXX
ReplyDeleteGetting back to work after a long hiatus is always so tough. I remember and always dreaded that first day back. I love both of these outfits. I will always be a fan of stripes and black. It doesn't matter how many I have in my closet, it seems to be the print and color I am most attracted too. Of course, I also love the pop of red in the second outfit. Such an easy way to dress it up. I hope you had a wonderful weekend and wishing you a beautiful week ahead!

Both are such fun dresses, Mica:) Love them, and those red shoes are such a great pop of colour for sure.
ReplyDeletePS Love your pose on the last pic:D
Hope you're having a lovely Monday!
It's always tough coming back to work after a few days off...I'm sure six weeks makes it even more of a struggle! Glad you powered through with some cute outfits. Love the pop of red with the necklace and flats in your second look!
ReplyDeleteWow, yes, returning to work after 6 weeks is tough. Hope you had an awesome and relaxing break. Love how you transitioned your summer dresses into the cooler seasons. I always tend to gravitate towards black and white color combos, you are inspiring me to try black and red. Thank you.

This is a great way to extend the life of our sleeveless pieces. I love the Disney scarf, because it adds just a little color to the black and white and the red in the next outfit does the same thing. It is always hard to go back to work after a vacation. Hope you are readjusting well. Have a great day. - Amy

I love layering long-sleeved tops under sleeveless tops and dresses for extra warmth and coverage - these are both great looks, although I do prefer the first one for the pattern contrast. LOVE those red shoes! You really need to wear them more. Neutral shoes?? Why would you want neutral shoes?? Hee hee!
ReplyDeletehaha I've got the non-neutral bags but I need to work on my shoe collection! :)
DeleteI am sure it was a big adjustment going back to normal life, but I can only imagine your experiences on your trip! So many memories too!

I have always liked stripes and floral but I think stripes with your patterned scarf is lovely. Thank you for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous! I love both of these dresses. You styled them so well. Oh wow, and coming back after 6 weeks would be quite the adjustment! Hope you're having a lovely week back.
ReplyDeleteI love the red accessories and shoes with that black dress! I like to wear long sleeves under sleeveless dresses in cooler weather too. It can really extend your wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteI think I'd have a hard time going back to work after six weeks, but you at least look great!

The scarf you picked up in Disney Paris is so cute. It suits you really well. That first work day after leave outfit was really stylish and sweet. I also really like the second outfit you wore. That black dress looks fantastic paired with a red necklace.
ReplyDeleteThat handbag looks so cute and seems like it goes with everything x

That's a good idea to buy a scarf from Disneyland where you can wear it over and over again rather than just buying other souvenirs. That's such a long holiday away from work must be so hard adjusting. I always try joining your link-ups but I get error each time when it's trying to get an image from my blog post. Happy hump day!

Yes scarves are a great souvenir! :) Sorry you are having troubles with the link up :(
DeleteI just love the idea of layering under a dress this way Mica!! You are so creative.

Loving the red accents on your second outfit there! I think 6 weeks of leave from work would be a big adjustment too - probably more because the holiday you had was so amazing I wouldn't go back to work haha! However being on mat leave you're probably itching to have some adult conversations after 18 months!
ReplyDeleteEileen | 5feetofstyle.com
haha yes I think you nailed it! Returning from maternity leave was so different!
Deletethat bag is so fun!! --Katelyn/www.theyellowspectacles.com
ReplyDeleteHi Mica both outfits look good on you. I love your hair cut - so modern and fresh
ReplyDeleteYou know, wearing a long-sleeved T-shirt under a dress isn't something I've done very often and I really don't know why. I love the look on you and I'll try it in about 4-1/2 months when it starts getting chilly again. I love your Mickey scarf. It's so surprisingly versatile and you have to look close to realize what it is. The red pops you added in the second outfit are perfectly done and look great with the all-black look. I love wearing black tights and leggings with dresses.
