Red Denim, Stripes, Sneakers and Black Bags

Two different red denim outfits for spring in Brisbane - with the slightly varying temperatures, the first one is simply shorts and a tee and the second one I needed the warmth of jeans and an extra layer. Both feature stripes with the red denim, because stripes and denim always work so well together no matter the colour of the denim!

What I wore:

Tee: thrifted navy stripe Coca-Cola logo tee
Shorts: thrifted red denim shorts
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a regular work from home day, with a physio session at lunch time. As it was such a warm day, shorts and a tee were all I needed. I thought these thrifted red shorts would work well with the also thrifted Coca-Cola logo tee. Even if the shades of red are slightly different, they were close enough to make my matchy-matchy self happy.

It was the school holidays so didn't even have to do the school run - and hubby had the kids out most of the day so I had a really productive day. Shorts and a tee was just perfect for working from home and not having to worry about changing my outfit for physio.

Last worn: Coca-Cola tee, red denim shorts, New Balance sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag.

Other ways to wearCoca-Cola tee and skirt, red denim shorts and plain tee, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag and dress.

What I wore:

JacketKmart striped maxi cardigan
Necklace: Ruby Olive Art series long striped pod necklace
Tank: Jeanswest Maji metallic tank in soft green and silver
Jeans: thrifted Emerson red skinny jeans
ShoesSketchers Bountiful navy fabric sneakers
BagRebecca Minkoff medium unlined tote in black with shellac studded dome hardware

Why I wore it:

This was a busy day! I was working from home in the morning, and had a couple of appointments in the afternoon after picking up the kids from school. I knew I'd need a confidence boosting pop of colour, so these red jeans paired with the colourful beaded necklace were perfect! I kept the rest of the outfit neutral, with the silver tank, black and white striped cardigan and my big black Rebecca Minkoff unlined tote bag.

Taking the kids to the doctors after school pick up requires a lot of books and snacks, the big tote bag was definitely needed!

Magnificent 8 In Maxi Skirts And Dresses

This quarter's Magnificent 8 themed post is maxi skirts and dresses, which I have no shortage of in my wardrobe! Despite it being winter here in Brisbane, I still get my maxi skirts out now and then. While they are worn most often in the warmer weather, I can easily layer them up for our snow free winters.

What I wore:

Balenciaga First bag in 2006 Blue India

Jacket: Bubblegum denim jacket
Necklace: thrifted gold large double circle necklace
TeeAtmos&Here 3/4 sleeve stripe tee in berry white
Skirtthrifted Tree of Life ochre maxi skirt
ShoesAtmos&Here tan Lola leather ankle boots
Bracelets: the usual
BagBalenciaga First bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

I did actually wear this back in June, when it was a little warmer as it was just the first month of winter. I really like this lightweight maxi skirt on hot days, but in cooler weather it needs a few more layers. Ankle boots were a must! With the gorgeous ochre shade of the skirt, I've enjoyed wearing different colours of burgundy with it lately, so this white and burgundy striped long sleeved tee was the perfect accompaniment with it, and the denim jacket was a good layer. I definitely needed the jacket for the cooler weather of the school run, but in the afternoon when we had an appointment after school, I was able to go without the jacket and still be warm enough.

It had been a while since I'd worn this cute turquoise Balenciaga first bag, so I got it out again. I love how it looks with the orange skirt, and with only the school run, working from home, and an appointment in the afternoon, I didn't need to carry much so this was a great size.

Last worn: denim jacket, circle necklace, burgundy stripe tee, ochre maxi skirt, tan ankle boots, Balenciaga turquoise first bag.

Other ways to weardenim jacket worn 30 ways, burgundy stripe tee and shorts, ochre maxi skirt and band tee, tan ankle boots and dress, Balenciaga turquoise first bag and pink dress.

Tee: Jeanswest Ruby frill sleeve Ric Rac detailed tee in deep iris
Skirt: thrifted pinstripe maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagBalenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

This was a much colder day than the one above, so warmer layers were needed! Instead of ankle boots, I went with Converse under my maxi skirt, as I had a little break during my work from home day to go cheer my son on in his sporting event. Needed comfortable shoes for a lot of standing around. With the navy tee, grey striped maxi skirt, and the black leather jacket, this outfit was cosy, but a bit dull for cheering on my son. I added the mustard scarf, as yellow and blue always look so good together and I thought it would help my son spot me in the crowd! It worked well for that.

Unlike the outfit above, I went with a classic black bag this time, my Balenciaga part time bag with giant silver hardware. I had my camera as well as a water bottle. It was quite a windy day so I appreciated the thick leather jacket keeping me warm as I stood on the side lines. And when I went back to working from home, the jersey maxi skirt and navy tee were such a comfortable outfit.

Last worn: leather jacket, navy frill sleeve tee, mustard scarf, pinstripe maxi skirt, black Converse, Balenciaga part time bag.

Cardigans, Converse and Colourful Jeans With Striped Tees And Yellow Bags

Proper autumn weather in Brisbane meant getting out my knits and jeans! I have quite a collection of colourful jeans, and I like them as an alternative to the traditional blue denim. While both of these outfits are very different colours, I like the fun yellow bags with both.

What I wore:

Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold | awayfromtheblue

Jacket: Paper Scissors grey wrap cardigan
Necklace: Colette marble and gold pendant drop long necklace
Tee: thrifted Cotton On orange and white stripe The One crew neck tee
JeansSass & Bide The Winning Day Lovestate jeans in magenta
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold

Why I wore it:

This was a busy day! While there was the usual routine of the school run and working from home for me, we had a few errands to run in the afternoon, and we had a big makeover of the stick insect enclosures at home that evening. That was the only time I regretted wearing this cute grey cardigan, as the ties on it kept getting tangled up in the branches and leaves! It was just the perfect light weight for the rest of the day, just got a bit messy at home that evening!

I think this is the first time I've tried the trio of orange and pink and yellow together. I really like yellow and pink together, the mustard bag looks so good with the magenta jeans. I thought the orange striped tee would be a fun touch with the magenta, but you really don't notice it too much. It made this colourful trio a lot more easy to wear, it didn't feel too bold!

Last worn: grey wrap cardigan, orange stripe tee, marble necklace, magenta Sass and Bide jeans, white Converse, mustard micro Regan bag.

Other ways to weargrey wrap cardigan and printed jeans, orange stripe tee and skirt, magenta Sass and Bide jeans and tie dye, white Converse and pencil skirt, mustard micro Regan bag worn 30 ways.

Ways to Wear Colourful Bags:

What I wore:

Tee: thrifted navy stripe Coca-Cola logo tee
Jeans: thrifted ASOS petite green skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff yellow mini 5 zip

Why I wore it:

I needed this cosy black cocoon cardigan in the morning, but later in the day it had warmed up enough that I didn't need it! I left it in the car when I took a little break from working from home to go see my son get an award at school in the afternoon. While the green jeans and the yellow bag are quite a bright combination, the navy striped tee was a good neutral.

Looking at the photos though, I probably should have tried tucking this tee in. These jeans are low waisted so I don't do that too often, and with the long cardigan I thought the tee untucked would work better, but if I wore this again I'd definitely tuck in the tee at the front.

Striped Tees, Kmart Linen Shorts and Aqua Mini MAC Bag

Both of these colourful Kmart linen shorts have come in so helpful this summer. I was happy to stumble across them in the opshop back in December, they have been getting a lot of wear since I thrifted them. This time around I'm just pairing them with basic striped tees, and a fun aqua Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag that does with everything.

What I wore:

Necklace: Colette marble and gold pendant drop long necklace
TeeCotton On "The One" fitted v tee in Cole stripe white moonlight
Shorts: thrifted Kmart fuchsia linen blend shorts
ShoesSketchers Bountiful navy fabric sneakers
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather (get it in pink)

Why I wore it:

This was a busy day! Before dropping the kids off at school, the little one had an appointment in the city, and then it was off to school for him, and working from home for me before I picked them both up in the afternoon.

Wore my comfortable Sketchers sneakers for the driving in peak hour traffic! And I did like how they matched with the navy stripes on this tee. With the loose, slightly oversized style it didn't look quite right fully tucked into the shorts, I liked the little blouson effect here from not fully tucking it in all the way, although the tee did ride up a little through the day.

The magenta and gold marble necklace was a nice bit of matchy-matchy with the bright fuchsia of the shorts. And I really liked the pop of colour from the aqua mini MAC bag, even though it doesn't match anything in the outfit, turquoise and magenta always look great together!

Last worn: navy stripe tee, marble and gold necklace, Kmart fuchsia linen shorts, Sketchers, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC bag.

Shorts: thrifted Kmart cumin linen blend pull on shorts
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas

Why I wore it:

Stripes and shorts yet again! After a big day the day at the theme park, it was a very quiet weekend day, with not much to do but a trip to the playground and library.

Just as with the outfit above, I again went with the bright Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag, and bright linen shorts. These orange ones have a paper bag waist which I've hidden under the fabric of the striped tee - you can see the waist detail better this previous time I wore them. This tee is a little more fitted than the first one so it stayed in place all day which was good, and I liked how the very neutral grey and white stripes let the bag and shorts be the focus of the outfit.

Striped Tees and Denim Skirts

Hot days at the end of summer recently called for a simple striped tee and skirt combo! Both of these outfits are the same basic pieces but the different striped tees, denim colour, and accessories changed up these looks a bit.

What I wore:

Chloe periwinkle small Paraty | awayfromtheblue

Jacket
The Kindness Kimono 'Dream Catch Me' print
Necklace: Happiness Boutique turquoise and coral pendant necklace (c/o)
Tee: thrifted Cotton On orange and white stripe The One crew neck tee
SkirtNobody Denim Piper vacation skirt in black distressed denim
ShoesSketchers Bountiful navy fabric sneakers
Bracelets: the usual
BagChloe periwinkle small Paraty

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a really fun day with the kids - we went to Sea World theme park for the day. It was such a hot and sticky day, it was no surprise when it started raining. I'd packed the kids waterproof jackets, although I'd hoped I wouldn't need an umbrella so foolishly didn't bring one. It was a warm enough day that we weren't cold getting wet in the rain, and we were able to go on a lot more rides when the rain started as it got quieter in the park.

The printed cover up was a fun bit of print mixing with the orange striped tee, I liked the matching colours in the print. While it was a nice physical sunblock in the morning, it wasn't the best to wear in the rain as it just got wet and stuck to me, ha! But I kept it on as it did dry quickly in between the rain showers.

Despite the rain we had a wonderful day, saw some shows, lots of cute animals, and of course went on so many rides. I was glad I'd worn my Sketchers sneakers. While they are fabric and were not the best in the rain, they were comfortable and supportive for my knee with all the walking around we did.

Last worn: printed cover up, orange stripe tee, stone pendant necklace, Nobody Denim skirt, Sketchers, Chloe periwinkle small Paraty bag.

Other ways to wearprinted cover up and dress, orange stripe tee and button up skirt, Nobody Denim skirt and leopard print, Sketchers and shorts, Chloe periwinkle small Paraty bag and printed shorts.

Skirt: JayJays distressed denim mini skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas

Why I wore it:

This was a pretty quiet day with the school run and working from home. Surprisinly I hadn't worn this denim skirt and striped tee toeghet before, seems like such an obvious combo! I wasn't sure if it seemed a bit too monochromatic white after I beleached this skirt - but it felt just blue enough that there was a difference between the white stripes and the bleached denim so I gave it a wear. I felt that the purple Chloe paraty bag added a big enough pop of colour with those light colours in my outfit too, and the big red logo on the tee.

This was super comfortable for a day with the school run, and working from home while the kids were at school.

Opshop Style: Thrifted Tees, Kmart Linen and Preloved Bag

Making the most of the summer holidays and getting in another wear of some recently thrifted pieces with these two outfits. Both feature thrifted tees, and some Kmart linen I recently scored at the opshop. Even though both linen pieces are bright and colourful, I added a touch more colour with my little yellow Rebecca Minkoff mini 5-zip bag.

What I wore:

orange stripe tee with rust linen button up skirt yellow bag | awayfromblue

Necklace: thrifted Eb&Ive black wooden bead multi strand statement necklace
Tee: thrifted Cotton On orange and white stripe The One crew neck tee
Skirt: thrifted Kmart rust button up linen blend skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff yellow mini 5 zip

Why I wore it:

I thought that this orange striped tee and the rust linen skirt would pair so nicely together when I saw them in the opshop, and I'm pleased I was right! With all the orange I thought the little yellow Rebecca Minkoff mini 5-zip bag was a fun accessory, but I did debate for a while over the perfect necklace, and I'm not 100% sure this is the right one.

Decided on the black statement necklace though as it's a fun wooden bead one, and we were off to visit our friends and their little baby. A kid safe necklace for bub to play with during cuddles was the way to go!

Tucking in this tee was a nice way to show off the paper bag waist on this skirt too. With it being such a humid day the linen blend skirt was perfect to wear.

Last worn: black statement necklace, Havaianas, yellow mini 5-zip bag. First time I've worn the striped tee and the skirt as they are recent opshop finds.

What I Bought In December: Massive Thrift Haul

Tee: thrifted Cotton on grey tunic tee
Shorts: thrifted Kmart fuchsia linen blend shorts
ShoesSketchers Bountiful navy fabric sneakers
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff yellow mini 5 zip

Why I wore it:

I was super excited to find these fuchsia pink Kmart linen blend shorts in the opshop. I had so many outfit ideas for them, already having and loving the Kmart fuchsia pink linen blend dress, a fuchsia tiered dress, and Sass and Bide magenta pink jeans in my wardrobe that have gotten a lot of wear. With the high waist on these shorts though I did struggle to find a tee that looked good with them. I ended up going with this grey tunic (also an opshop find, from a while back) so I could have some extra fabric to drape over the top off the shorts so I didn't look too stiff.

With the neutral grey tee and the metallic necklace, again I thought this outfit would benefit from a bright bag, and since I loved fuchsia and yellow last time I tried them together, I thought this little yellow crossbody would be a good choice.

Comfortable sneakers were needed - I got these Sketchers from my mum for Christmas - as we had a busy day. We picked up our son's friend to go to the zoo. It was so much fun, the kids had a great time! I had a couple errands in the afternoon too, so I stopped by the Kmart Christmas clearance and picked up a bunch of 50 cent sale items for next Christmas!

Last worn: grey tunic, pearl and heart charm necklace, yellow mini 5-zip bag (above). First time I've worn the shorts as they were a recent opshop find, and the shoes as they were a gift from my mum.

Other ways to weargrey tunic and midi skirt, yellow mini 5-zip bag with olive.

How You Can Wear It:

Bright yellow bags can work with bright outfits too! You don't just have to wear them with neutrals. As you can see in these two outfits, the yellow bag looks great with pinks and oranges.

Striped Tops and Maxi Skirts With Floral Bag

Summer stripes and skirts outfits! Wearing a couple of my thrifted block colour maxi skirts with striped tops and my little hand painted floral bag.

What I wore:

red white striped tee with navy maxi skirt and floral hand painted tote bag | awayfromblue

Mica Bag - Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB side zip tote in pale lilac hand painted by Sheila

Necklace: Kmart navy and gold beaded tassel necklace
TeeCotton On The One fitted v tee in eddy stripe white / red terracotta
Skirt: thrifted navy viscose drawstring no label maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
Bracelets: the usual
Bag: Mica Bag - Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB side zip tote in pale lilac hand painted by Sheila

Why I wore it:

This was a fun day! I'd booked in a craft day for the boys. It was nature themed so they used things like feathers and leaves and gumnuts to make some decorations for the tree, along with a couple of paintings. I even got involved with some painting too, although I of course made a bit more of a mess than the kids and regretted wearing a white tee!

I thought this red and white striped tee would be a good pairing with the navy maxi skirt, and with the navy beaded necklace and the floral bag it stopped it looking too nautical. Just not the best tee for painting in!

Last worn: stripe tee, navy beaded necklace, navy maxi skirt, Havaianas, hand painted bag.

Other ways to wearstripe tee and shorts, navy maxi skirt and leopard print, hand painted bag and pink dress.

Skirtthrifted Tree of Life ochre maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
Bracelets: the usual
Bag: Mica Bag - Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB side zip tote in pale lilac hand painted by Sheila

Why I wore it:

Last time I wore this skirt with a red tee I really liked the combination, so decided to pair the rust skirt with red again with this coral striped tank. It was such a hot day, a tank and this light skirt was the best outfit. Again I thought the floral painted bag would work nicely with this, even though the colours in the bag don't match anything in the outfit, I do like florals and stripes together.

While I wore this back at the start of December during the school term, I had one kid home sick with me as I worked from home, and then we had family over for dinner in the evening. Thankfully he's all better now - and he managed to be quiet through most of my meetings, ha!

How You Can Wear It:

A striped tee or tank is a great way to add a little more print and colour to a plain maxi skirt, as I have in these outfits. You can wear a printed bag as well for even more interest in your outfit.

30 Ways To Wear: Navy and White Striped Tee

This navy stripe v-neck tee has definitely proved its worth in my wardrobe, and it's time to do a 30 ways to wear post showing all the ways I've worn it over the years.

30 Ways To Wear: Navy White Stripe V-neck Tee

I bought this tee on sale at the Iconic all the way back in 2014, for just $20.21. With a stripe tee and tees in general being such a staple for me, I'm surprised it's taken me 6 years to get this tee up to 30 wears! I suspect that perhaps it's because I just have too many tees, particularly striped ones, in my wardrobe, but this one is a real favourite.

Cost Per Wear

At 30 wears, the cost per wear is 67 cents, which is great value, particularly as this tee doesn't show any signs of how old it is. it's quite a thick material, perfect for layer up in winter, and I really like wearing it with cardigans. Here are the 30 ways I've worn it so far, and I'll definitely increase that number of wears in future, it's a keeper!

Navy Stripe Tee With Shorts

Nothing more classic for warm weather than a simple striped tee and shorts outfit! It's easy to alyer up a little like I have in the first three outfits too, with the vest, scarf and cardigan, for when the weather is slightly cooler.

Navy Stripe Tee and Jeans

This outfit formula is in direct competition with the one above - as while shorts and tee is a staple in sunny Queensland, for colder climates jeans and a tee would be the most classic! I've mixed it up a little bit with these 3 outfits, pairing the navy stripes with colourful denim instead of basic blue.

Navy Stripe Tee and Bright Accessories

The neutral navy and white stripes on this tee really do go with anything - and are a perfect base for a pop of colour, from a bag, scarf (or even a bag and scarf!) or a bright cardigan like that mustard one. It's so easy to add more colour to a neutral outfit with accessories.

Navy Stripe Tee in Winter

This tee is a bit cosier and thicker than some of my other stripe tees, so it's perfect in winter! The stripes look great layered up for a bit of print mixing with a scarf, and of course being neutral stripes, any block colour cardigan works great on top too.

Navy Stripe Tee and Skirt

You know from the outfits above that denim and striped tees are a classic. This striped tee works with other skirts too. Like ruffle skirts and even a pencil skirt (and a baby bump!). There really is no style of skirt that doesn't work.

Navy Stripe Tee and Maxi Skirts

Of course, I had to call out maxi skirts, my most love skirt length separately, as I love the easy combination of a striped tee and a maxi skirt. While I'm partial to that ochre one as I think the orange looks great with navy, the tee works well with others in my wardrobe too.
