What I Thrifted In August & How I've Worn My Opshop Finds

Just like back in July, I feel I have been shopping a lot in August too! I have been making more trips to the opshop, as we declutter at home and reorganise, to donate things we no longer need, and of course browsing leads to buying!

What I Bought:

  • thrifted black scoop neck H&M tee
  • thrifted peach and white floral print tiered sundress
  • thrifted red denim shorts
  • thrifted pastel pink and wooden bead necklace
  • thrifted chartreuse necklace

Some of these things were impulse buys - the dress and tee I thought were good basics I couldn't pass up! I definitely have a couple black tees already, and a few printed sundresses, but I could easily rationalise adding another when clothing is $1 each! I'm always on the lookout for more of these wooden statement necklaces too, I feel they work well with outfits in my wardrobe and it's nice to have lots of choice when I am picking a necklace to add to my outfit. As it's spring now in Brisbane I'll be wearing more necklaces than scarves so these will get a lot of wear.

The red shorts were actually something I'd been wanting for a while, couldn't believe when I stumbled across them in the opshop. I have a few pairs of denim shorts, but I'd like to have more than the classic blue wash so have been on a look out for red shorts for a while. I've actually been able to wear them in August too, although it's technically winter, it really started feeling like spring early in Brisbane.

How I've Worn It:

How I'm Tracking With My Spending Goals:

This month I had more success wearing all the things I bought twice, as the weather has been so warm. I set myself a goal of wearing everything I buy at least twice in the month I buy it, to make sure things really work for me and my wardrobe. And I easily achieved this this month. I think the blush necklace is the standout, being worn 4 times this month.

I have been buying a lot, although as it's mostly preloved opshop finds, I'm still well under my budget this year. I've been revamping my wardrobe a bit and selling old pieces at the markets so I'm more open to buying things and less strict when considering purchases. And also, honestly, I like browsing the racks at the opshop and once I find something it's hard to say no! More browsing time always leads to more buying for me.

There is the drop off in the 30 wears posts I used to do each month as with refreshing my wardrobe and buying so many new pieces, I haven't hit 30 wears as often. I know that things leaving my wardrobe are being put to use - on the racks at the opshop generating money for a worthy charity, or being sold to a happy customer at a market. They aren't just filling up space in landfill, just no longer pieces I reach for that are going onto new homes. I'm not giving up on my 30 wears goals! Just revaluating my wardrobe a little and making some changes that mean I have less pieces I've achieved 30 wears with, for the moment.

Black Tanks, Printed Skirts and Blazers | Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear Link up, sharing two times I wore a midi skirt and black tank outfit formula with blazers over the top for the office.

What I wore:

Chloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

JacketJeanswest grey jersey blazer
Necklace: thrifted chartreuse necklace (new purchase)
Tank: Kmart linen blend textured black tank
Skirt: thrifted Ghanda midi slink skirt in green mini blossom
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
Bracelets: the usual
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

Last time I wore this green daisy print midi skirt to the office I worried the side slit was a bit too high. I saw the skirt hanging in my wardrobe and felt it was due another wear, and when I tried it on I wondered why I felt it was too high for the office, the length seems to cancel out the slightly higher slit. I quickly realised when I got to the office though, that the slit does expose quite a bit of leg when you sit down, and that was my main issue with it last time I wore it. Ended up tugging at the skirt all day, not the best choice of outfit. I did really like how this looked, just made me a bit self conscious in the office when anyone stopped by my desk.

With the neutral black tank and the grey blazer, the neon chartreuse necklace added needed pop of colour, and the light khaki small Chloe Ethel bag added some more lightness to the outfit too.

Last worn: grey jersey blazer, black linen blend tank, green print midi skirt, black ballet flats, Chloe small Ethel bag. First time I've worn the chartreuse necklace as it's a recent opshop buy.

Other ways to weargrey jersey blazer and dress, black linen blend tank and leopard print, green print midi skirt and band tee, black ballet flats and jeans, Chloe small Ethel bag and maxi skirt.

What I wore:

Chloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Jacketthrifted Zara black blazer
Necklace: thrifted pastel pink and wooden hexagon bead necklace
Top: lace bib black swing tank from mum's wardrobe
SkirtCotton On 'Mica' mesh spot skirt in dusty pink
Shoes:  Converse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

Since I liked the outfit formula above (in theory, although not so much in practice!) I copied it again for another office day. I wore my comfortable Converse sneakers this time instead of the ballet flats, and again it was another midi skirt and a black tank outfit. I liked the lace detail of this tank with the mesh polka dot layer of the midi skirt, it was a nice texture combination, and it lifted the outfit a little with all the black of the black blazer and tank together.

This skirt is an old favourite that I saw in a magazine back in the days I used to read magazines and had to buy it - it is the Mica skirt after all! Surprisingly I haven't hit 30 wears on it yet, I'll need to wear it more often! I liked the blush necklace with it, although the skirt is more of a peachy pink I thought the shades worked nicely together with the black tank in between.

Last worn: black jersey blazer, black lace tank, statement necklace, polka dot pencil skirt, Converse, Chloe small Ethel bag (above).

Other ways to wearblack jersey blazer and floral dress, black lace tank with red, polka dot pencil skirt and berry top, Converse and shorts, Chloe small Ethel bag and striped dress.

Pink Tees and White Jeans With Black And White Layers

Sharing two very similar outfits with black and white printed layers over pink tees and skinny jeans. Accessorising with my Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag and my white Converse in both outfits.

What I wore:

JacketRebecca Minkoff Ruana poncho
Necklace: terrazzo and wood rose gold bead necklace
TeeCotton On deep v tee in washed desert rose
Jeans: thrifted Atmos&Here white straight leg jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
Bracelets: the usual
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

I wore this back in the July school holidays, so I needed a nice cosy layer for winter. This knitted poncho was the best, and I liked the extra warmth and interest it added to the jeans and tee outfit. I spent a few hours working from home, and then took the kids out for a couple errands and a play at the park with the new gliders my mum had got them.

With the white jeans, the white Converse seemed like a great matchy-matchy option. I really like wearing this black and white knit with pink too, it's a lovely combination.

Last worn: knitted poncho, pink tee, statement necklace, white jeans, white Converse, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag.

Other ways to wearknitted poncho and shorts, pink tee and maxi skirt, white jeans and red, white Converse and dress, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag and printed jeans.

Perfect for pregnancyConverse in second trimester.

What I wore:

JacketKmart striped maxi cardigan
Necklace: thrifted pastel pink and wooden hexagon bead necklace (new purchase)
TeeCle The Label Charlotte tee in ombre rose
Jeans: Dannii Minogue denim high waist skinny jean in ecru
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

This was a much more recent outfit, nearing the end of Autumn and winter in Brisbane. Very similar to the one above, just for a warmer day. This black and white striped duster was a nice light duster for a warm day, and again I went with the pink tee and white jeans combo. The pink ombre tee looks so good with the white skinny jeans, and I although the pink paint on the wooden necklace doesn't match the shades of pink in the tee exactly I thought they looked nice together.

I really loved this outfit, but I quickly regretted it. I took my son out to run a couple errands and to stop by a couple opshops looking for a final piece for his book week costume for school. At the first opshop we found exactly what we needed, so we took a little look at the kids section. And stumbled across a Mongoose mountain bike for just $50! It was the perfect size for my son, but picking it up to put it in the car got my jeans covered in dirt and dust.

After getting the bike tuned up, we took it out for a spin, and then I made the second mistake of the day and tried hopping on a bike without taking off my duster. It quickly got caught in the chain and had to be cut free. I'm so sad as I really liked this duster, and was so close to 30 wears with it! Thankfully I was able to get mum to cut off the destroyed section and hem it shorter, so I can still continue to wear it.

Last worn: striped duster, pink ombre tee, white skinny jeans, white Converse (above), Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag (above). First time I've worn the necklace as it was a recent opshop find.

Other ways to wearstriped duster and skirt, pink ombre tee and blazer, white skinny jeans and sequins, white Converse and pencil skirt, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag and dress.

Black Tops, Red Jeans, and Cardigans

Wearing some red jeans with black tops and cardigans recently. Again, just like Monday's post, I accessorised with my Converse Chucks and my Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag that is certainly getting a workout after I found it at the opshop!

What I wore:

thrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue with burgundy jeans | awayfromblue

Jacket: Paper Scissors grey wrap cardigan
Earrings: thrifted red dinosaur skeleton earrings
Tee: Kisschasy United Paper People 2023 tour band tee
Jeans: Jeanswest Harper skinny pant in Russet
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

This was a really fun day! The kids had to hand in their science projects at school, and we got to tour the displays and see what everyone had done. There are some really creative kids! I wore this simple band tee and jeans outfit, as I had to cart around all the project stuff for the school run, and then I was working from home before picking the kids up from school in the afternoon.

Although the red in the band tee is a lighter red than the jeans, I thought they worked well together. And I added a third shade of red with the dinosaur skeleton earrings.

Last worn: grey cardigan, dinosaur earrings, Kisschasy band tee, burgundy jeans, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag.

Other ways to weargrey cardigan and dress, Kisschasy band tee and maxi skirt, burgundy jeans and stripes, Converse and maxi dress, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag and printed dress.

Perfect for pregnancyConverse in second trimester.

What I wore:

thrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue with leopard print and red | awayfromblue

Jacket: thrifted no label black and white leopard print cardigan
Tank: lace bib black swing tank from mum's wardrobe
Jeans: thrifted Emerson red skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

This was a busy but also fun day. My son and I had a couple errands to run and a lot of items to drop off at the workshop, as our clear out and reorganisation at home continues. Although he was a little upset there were no toys he wanted at the opshop, we did get him some cute clothes and I picked up a pair of shorts and a cute dress for myself too!

This is the first time I've worn the lace trim tank on the blog - it's from my mum's wardrobe, she had given me a few things she no longer wanted and let me try on a few things before donating, and I couldn't let this cute tank go. The red jeans really pop against the tank and the leopard print cardigan adds a little extra interest too, although I did take it off between errands in the morning as the day warmed up a lot. We had my parents over in the evening too.

Last worn: leopard print cardigan, red jeans, Converse (above), Rebecca Minkoff Cupid (above). First time I've worn the tank as it's a recent addition to my wardrobe, from my mum's wardrobe.

Other ways to wearleopard print cardigan and white jeansred jeans worn 30 ways, Converse and pencil skirt, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid and denim dress.

Blue Tops, Pink Scarves, Cardigans and Skinny Jeans | Weekday Wear Link Up

Two different blue and pink outfits with skinny jeans and cosy cardigans. Both outfits feature a scarf for a bright pop of pink.

What I wore:

thrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Jacket: thrifted no label black and white leopard print cardigan
Scarf: thrifted pink ombre tassel scarf
TankCle The Label Amelia tank in indigo
Jeans: Jeanswest Cecile dove grey skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

I threw this top on after it was delivered the day before - probably should have ironed it, can still see those new from packet creases, ha! But it was the perfect block colour piece to wear with this fun leopard print cardigan, and super comfortable with the grey jeans. I was just working from home and doing the school run, but added a little warmth and colour with the pink ombre scarf that I thrifted recently.

Last worn: leopard print cardigan, pink ombre scarf, blue tank, grey skinny jeans, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid.

Other ways to wearleopard print cardigan and pink jeans, pink ombre scarf with black and white outfit, blue tank with greengrey skinny jeans worn 30 ways, Converse and dress, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid and printed jeans.

Perfect for pregnancyConverse in second trimester.

What I wore:

Jacket: Jeanswest waterfall drape cardigan in navy night sky marle
ScarfAlexander McQueen modal skull scarf in white/pink
TeeAtmos & Here Avery marle tee in navy
Jeans:  thrifted Jeanswest faded black cropped butt lifter jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

With the navy tee, navy cardigan and the faded black skinny jeans, this was a bit of a darker outfit than the one above. I thought that the pink and white Alexander McQueen skull scarf was a nice way to lighten up the outfit a little with that pop of pink and the white background. Again I went with my Converse sneakers and my Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag, that has been a firm go-to for me since I thrifted it recently. Nice and easy jeans and tee outfit for my sons playdate.

Leather Jackets And Dresses

Making these two dresses suitable for winter temperatures with the black leather jacket I recently bought at Gladrags Markets. The first outfit, I wore this month and could go bare legged, the second I wore back in July when it was a lot colder and fleece lined tights were a must!

What I wore:

Target puff sleeve tiered denim dress, leather jacket and skull scarf | awayfromblue

thrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

JacketWitchery black belted moto leather jacket
ScarfAlexander McQueen magenta skull scarf in roses print
Earrings: blue and yellow daisy resin earrings
DressTarget puff sleeve tiered denim dress
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star coast blue
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

This was a fun day! Spent some time with my mum and sister in the morning, getting haircuts (just a trim for me, as I'm still desperately trying to grow my hair out to donate again) and doing some dress shopping for an upcoming event.

Unfortunately the traffic coming back from up the coast made me a little late for dinner with some mum friends in the evening. I wasn't sure how long I'd be down the coast for so dressed for both things in case I didn't have time to change, thankfully. I didn't need the leather jacket for most of the day but I was so grateful for it at night, as it and the skull scarf kept me warm.

Last worn: black leather jacket, skull scarf, earrings, tiered denim dress, blue Converse, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag.

Other ways to wearblack leather jacket and skirt, skull scarf and stripes, tiered denim dress and red, blue Converse and jeans, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag in the office.

Perfect for pregnancy: skull scarf in third trimester.

What I wore:

JacketWitchery black belted moto leather jacket
Earrings: blue and yellow daisy resin earrings
Necklace: Tiffany & Co silver 5th Avenue notes heart pendant necklace
Dress: thrifted no label pastel floral print babydoll dress
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

A super cold morning meant layering up this little light pastel floral print viscose babydoll dress a bit for the school run and some errands. With the black fleece lined tights, black ankle boots and the black leather jacket and dark navy Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag, I feel the pretty pastel floral print on this dress stands out really well. I added a little bit of matching with the floral print with my daisy earrings, although the colours are completely different I liked the additional florals against all the dark black.

Last worn: daisy earrings (above), leather jacket (above), Tiffany necklace, pastel floral dress, black ankle boots, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag (above).

Blue Tanks, Floral Toppers And Skinny Jeans

Adding a little more interest to these plain blue tank and black skinny jeans outfits I wore recently, with some floral printed cover ups. Nice easy outfits for the school run and working from home.

What I wore:

Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue | awayfromblue

JacketCotton On Leah kimono in Juddy floral cerise
Necklace: thrifted flat navy statement bead necklace
Tank: Kmart teal tank
Jeans: thrifted Jeanswest faded black cropped butt lifter jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

With it being a little warmer I didn't want to add a cardigan to this tank and jeans outfit. I wasn't sure about the teal of the tank against the magenta of this floral waterfall jacket but I'm glad I gave the combination a try for something different! This was the perfect light layer I needed.

With the cobalt blue in the floral print I added more blue with the navy bead necklace, and the dark navy Rebecca Minkoff Cupid satchel, black faded skinny jeans and Converse were good neutrals to wear with that different teal and magenta colour combination.

Last worn: magenta floral jacket, navy beaded necklace, teal tank, faded black skinny jeans, black Converse, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid.

Other ways to wearmagenta floral jacket and shorts, teal tank over a dress, faded black skinny jeans and blazer, black Converse and skirt, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid and maxi dress.

What I wore:

JeansNobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (c/o)
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

Another blue and green outfit! I really like wearing this green duster with blue, so I knew I wanted to wear it with this blue tank I recently purchased. I love blue and green together, and I think that the chunky necklace, with the different blue and green beads, tied it together nicely. This has quickly become my go-to necklace when I'm wearing blue and green!

Again I went with classic black skinny jeans. These Nobody Denim Siren pair are so comfortable, perfect for the school run and working from home, especially when paired with this soft cotton tank and my staple Converse.

Last worn: green floral duster, chunky necklace, Nobody Denim skinny jeans, Converse (above), Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag (above). first time I've shared the tank on the blog as it's a recent purchase.

Printed Tanks, Cardigans and Skinny Jeans In The Office | Weekday Wear Link Up

I feel like I've been wearing my jeans to the office a lot this winter! This time around I wore them with printed tanks and some cosy cardigans. While winter is drawing to an end here in Brisbane and the days can be quite warm, the commute can be quite chilly, especially in the morning!

What I wore:

Jacket: Jeanswest waterfall drape cardigan in scarlett marle
Necklace: thrifted gold large double circle necklace
Tank: Jeanswest Rowena print tank
JeansNobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (c/o)
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

I really liked the simplicity of this outfit! The red waterfall cardigan really popped against the neutral printed tank and the black skinny jeans. With the dark navy Cupid bag and the black and white Converse, this could have been a really dull outfit without the cardigan brightening it up. This cosy red cardigan was the obvious choice when looking for something to keep me warm that morning for the commute into the office.

Last worn: red waterfall cardigan, gold circle necklace, animal print tank, Nobody Denim skinny jeans, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid satchel.

Other ways to wearred waterfall cardigan and pencil skirt, animal print tank and maxi skirt, Nobody Denim skinny jeans and blazer, Converse and tiered dress, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid satchel and floral dress.

Perfect for pregnancy: animal print tank in second trimesterConverse in second trimester.

What I wore:

Jacket: thrifted Dotti black cocoon cape cardigan
Earrings: thrifted red dinosaur skeleton earrings
Tank: Emerson crochet lace bib print top
JeansNobody Denim Cult high rise skinny ankle jeans in charred grey
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

Red and black again for another day in the office! This time around I went with a red printed tank, and kept the rest of my outfit neutral with the black cocoon cardigan and the charcoal grey jeans. I felt with the crochet detail on the tank, and the red and white print, this outfit didn't really need a necklace. Instead I went with my little dinosaur skeleton earrings I recently thrifted. They weren't a perfect match to the red in the print on the tank, but I liked the two together. I really need to try wearing these when I tie my hair up one day so they are easier to show off, they tend to get hidden in my hair!

Last worn: black cocoon cardigan, dino earringsred printed tank, Nobody Denim jeans, Adidas Superstar, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid (above).

Other ways to wearblack cocoon cardigan and printed jeans, red printed tank and flares, Nobody Denim jeans worn 2 ways, Adidas Superstar and maxi dress, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid and floral dress.
