Casual Summer Christmas Outfits | Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear Link Up, two fun festively themed outfits for summer Christmas events earlier on in December. One very festive one, and the second one a bit more subtle. The second one is a little weekend outfit sneaking into the link up too!

What I wore:

summer festive outfit merry Christmas tee ribbon bracelet navy crossbody bag sneakers | awayfromblue blog

red maxi skirt with Rebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight | awayfromtheblue

Earrings: Colette Ciao Bella glitter ball drop earrings
Necklace: layered Tai gold alphabet necklaces
Tee: Merry Christmas deer antler tee
Skirtthrifted Billabong 'Don't Think Of It' bikini red printed maxi skirt
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual plus Christmas ribbon bracelet
BagRebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight

Why I wore it:

This was a busy day! After an event earlier in the day I got changed later that afternoon into this Christmas-y outfit for our annual trip to Movie World's White Christmas event. They decorate the theme park for Christmas, play Christmas carols and they even have fake snow falling. It's magical and I really missed it last year. While we had no restrictions on at the time or Covid cases, with everything that happened in 2020 I figured we'd skip the crowds that year. I definitely missed it though and was so glad we went this year!

When my mum gave me this tee she made as an early Christmas present I knew that the red maxi skirt would be perfect for it. Added the delicate gold necklaces and the fun gold bauble earrings and it was perfectly themed for the evening! We had the usual backpack with all our water bottles so I picked this little Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag to wear as it fit all my essentials and my camera in it, although I didn't take too many pics in the end. The comfortable Adidas superstar sneakers were appreciated as we did a lot of walking around.

The kids managed to fit in quite a lot of rides before a storm blew in and the rides were closed for the rest of the night safety reasons. It worked out well though. We were able to watch the Polar Express movie the kids love so much in 4D and then grab some dinner before sitting undercover and watching the big parade at the end of the night, all great timing! Such a fun night.

What I wore:

Kmart teal tropical notch neck floral maxi dress with rebecca minkoff love too bag | awayfromblue

floral maxi dress and Rebecca Minkoff Love Too in deep teal croc embossed leather | awayfromtheblue

Earrings: gold pendant chandelier earrings
Dress: Kmart teal tropical notch neck floral maxi dress
Belt: came with dress
ShoesNovo Tawny rose gold sandals
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff Love Too in deep teal croc embossed leather

Why I wore it:

This is a much more subtle Christmas outfit! I've worn this dress for Christmas day before, with the teal and red it's very festively themed, but it's a dress I've worn at other times of year too. It's hard to see in the first pic with my hair in the way but I decided to keep it really simple and just add a pair of gold earrings and no necklace. I thought the rose gold sandals were a nice pairing with the gold earrings too!

Although the deep teal of the Rebecca Minkoff Love Too bag is a very different shade from the teal of the maxi dress, they are a nice pairing together. I really like wearing this bag with green and blue and I've been wearing it a lot recently! The black hardware means it goes with everything.

I also carried a little tote bag with me for the kids water bottles and some books to entertain them for church in the morning. There was a Christmas party after church in the evening too, although I was a little worried about the weather and possible storms. I even belted the dress to create a blouson effect with the top and make sure the hem stayed off the ground. Thankfully it was a rain free afternoon, although the winds picked up a bit later the storms held off until the kids were home in bed. This outfit is just perfect for both church in the morning and then a Christmas party in the evening!

Last worn: gold earrings, teal floral maxi dress, gold sandals, Rebecca Minkoff Love Too bag.

Other ways to wearteal floral maxi dress, gold sandals and shorts, Rebecca Minkoff Love Too bag and jeans.

How You Can Wear It:

Christmas is a fun time to break out the red and green! A red maxi skirt and a Christmas tee is a great way to look suitably festive for summer, but you can go more subtle too by throwing on a dress that works for any time of year that has both green and red in the print.

Knits and Printed Maxi Skirts | Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear Link Up I'm sharing some comfortable outfits for making the most of the end of winter weather back in August. Squeezing in another wearing of some cosy winter knits with printed maxi skirts before it warmed up too much with spring days away.

What I wore:

ombre stripe knit with red boho print maxi skirt for late winter birthday party park outfit | awayfromblue

Chloe small Ethel bag in light khaki with red printed maxi skirt | away from the blue

Earrings: Piper gold heart earrings
Necklace: layered Tai gold alphabet necklaces
Knit: Jeanswest 'Serena' ombre knit
Skirtthrifted Billabong 'Don't Think Of It' bikini red printed maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

This was a really foggy morning after a rainy evening the day before. We had a very small (due to Covid restrictions in place at the time) birthday party in the park to attend for my son's friend. Being by the bay I didn't want to be too cold if the clouds stuck around and there was a lot of breeze off the water, but I didn't want to overheat if the sun came out either. I figured the open knit of this ombre jumper was a good compromise. The sun came out just after we left the house though and it turned into a really warm day! I kinda regretted wearing the jumper!

I thought the ombre would be an interesting pairing with the print on the maxi skirt too, the neutral knit balancing it out so it didn't look too bold. Changed my mind a couple times before going ahead, but in the end even if the knit was a little warm I'm glad I tried something a little different with this skirt!

The Chloe Ethel was perfectly sized for carrying everything I needed - it fits so much inside! I also had a big green bag though for the picnic blanket, jumpers for the boys in case it was cold (that they ended up not needing at all), and a book for me to read after the party while the kids played in the playground.

Last worn: gold heart earrings, ombre knit, initial necklaces, red printed maxi skirt, black Converse, Chloe Ethel.

Other ways to wearombre knit worn two ways, red printed maxi skirt worn 30 ways, black Converse and shorts, Chloe Ethel and jeans.

Perfect for pregnancyombre knit at 40 weeks, black Converse in second trimester.

What I wore:

cobalt knit and converse with grey pinstripe maxi skirt and magenta edie crossbody bag | awayfromtheblue

pinstripe grey maxi skirt with Rebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta | away from the blue

Necklace: silver heart long pendant necklace
Knit: thrifted Valleygirl blue knit jumper
Skirt: thrifted pinstripe maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta

Why I wore it:

Much like the day before this was a foggy start to the morning and it warmed up much more than I expected! Ended up taking my jumper off as I sat in the back garden while the little one played. It was a quiet day at home really. My eldest boy had an event on most of the day so I was grateful for the jumper in the cooler morning when I dropped him off, and in the afternoon when I picked him up.

As I didn't have much to do or many places to be I wore my cute little Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody bag again - it's a good size for the essentials like phone, wallet, mask, keys and hand sanitiser. I really like the way it pops with the cobalt knit too!

This grey pinstripe maxi skirt is an incredibly comfortable one - I knew it was overdue a wear but I was shocked to see I hadn't worn it since 2020! Definitely needs to be worn more, I love the cut, so different from all my other maxi skirts. Like the cobalt knit, it was an opshop find too and another thrift bargain.

Last worn: cobalt knit, silver heart necklace, grey stripe maxi skirt, black Converse (above), Rebecca Minkoff magenta Edie crossbody bag.

Other ways to wearcobalt knit and jeans, grey stripe maxi skirt and striped scarf, black Converse in the office, Rebecca Minkoff magenta Edie crossbody bag and culottes.

Perfect for pregnancycobalt marl knit and hidden baby bumpConverse in second trimester.

How You Can Wear It

Maxi skirts and jumpers are cosy and comfortable for winter days. Try a neutral knit and a colourful skirt, or vice versa, for an easy outfit.

30 Ways To Wear: Billabong Red Printed Maxi Skirt

So thrilled to finally feature this pretty red printed maxi skirt in its own 30 wears post! I thrifted it back in 2017 and I'm just surprised it's taken me this long to hit over 30 wears with it. It feels like it's such a constantly worn staple for me! Definitely overdue a post celebrating all the ways I have worn it. You can wear a bright red maxi skirt in quite a few ways surprisingly. It's more versatile than you think!

30 Ways To Wear: Red Printed Maxi Skirt

30 ways to wear billabong red printed boho maxi skirt | away from blue blog

I'm not someone who has a lot of red in my wardrobe so I'm surprised by how much of a staple this skirt has become for me! While I do tend to wear it with a lot of blue, it's also encouraged me to try other colours now and then. The yellow in the boho print has made me branch out and try red and yellow together in bolder combos which I really like, and I just love how light and floaty this skirt is for summer. This slight high low hem ensures it always catches a breeze, and while it can make it tricky to photograph it makes it so fun to wear. So glad I found it!

Cost Per Wear

I thrifted this skirt at the end of my no shop challenge in 2017, after successfully not shopping for 7 months. From my favourite, but sadly now permanently closed opshop, it was just $3. At 31 wears that makes it just under 9 cents a wear. Pretty good value for a second hand skirt that's still going strong and will continue to be in my wardrobe for quite some time! For full disclosure, I did pay to have this skirt altered, because I'm petite and it's a full length maxi skirt. I don't remember how much I paid to calculate full cost including alterations but it was definitely less than $30 to it to be shortened for me so still under $1 per wear. Here are the 30 favourite ways I've worn it:

Red Maxi Skirt and Neutral Tees

red printed maxi skirt worn 4 ways with neutral tees | awayfromtheblue

Of course the most obvious choice for a bold bright printed piece like this maxi skirt is to wear it with neutrals. It is a very easy way to wear it; with a grey, white, or black tee. You can always add a little extra colour with another layer or accessory as I've done in some of these outfits too.

Red Maxi Skirt With Blue

5 outfit ideas different shades of blue navy with red printed maxi skirt | awayfromblue

I mentioned above I wear this skirt with blue a lot - any shade of blue really! Blue is my favourite colour so I have a lot of it in my wardrobe and luckily this bright cheerful red pairs so nicely with every different blue shade, from pastels to navy.

Matchy-Matchy With Red Printed Maxi Skirt and Red Handbag

3 outfit ideas of a red bag matching and worn with a red printed maxi skirt | awayfromblue

I do like being matchy-matchy and have worn my red bags with this red skirt a few times, although they do get a little lost in these outfits. Contrasting bags are definitely something I wear more commonly with this skirt. You could try matching other pieces too, like a bracelet, shoes or necklace to avoid the pieces blending together like these bags do with the skirt.

Red Printed Maxi Skirt With Yellow

red printed maxi skirt worn 3 ways with yellow and mustard | awayfromblue blog

When you have a printed piece like this skirt, an fail-safe way to find things to wear it with is to pull out a colour from the print. And with the yellow design printed on the skirt, so many shades of yellow I've worn with this work well. Mustard is definitely my favourite though!

Red Printed Maxi Skirt With Striped Tees

3 different stripe tee outfit ideas with red boho print maxi skirt | awayfromtheblue

It's fun to try a little bit of print mixing now and then. While I didn't equally love all of these striped tees with the red maxi skirt, I do think stripes are the best for print mixing with. Stripes made an easy choice when I wanted to try something different and wear a printed top with this skirt.

Red Printed Maxi Skirt and Graphic Tee Outfits

5 ways to wear red printed maxi skirt with graphic tees outfits | away from blue

Graphic tees are a staple for a causal wardrobe like mine and they work well with maxi skirts, even if they are printed like this one.

Red Printed Maxi Skirt and Knit Outfits

3 ways to wear a red printed maxi skirt in winter with knits | awayfromtheblue

This skirt is so light and perfect for summer - but I enjoy wearing it in cooler weather too. With mild Brisbane winters, pairing a maxi skirt and knit together is an easy cosy outfit for warmer winter day.

Red Printed Maxi Skirt and Denim Jackets Outfits

4 different denim jacket outfit ideas with a red printed maxi skirt | awayfromblue blog

A denim jacket is a staple in everyone's wardrobe and it works so well with a maxi skirt! I really like the blue denim jackets with this red skirt, but different colours like the white denim jacket work just as well.

Printed Maxi Skirts, Yellow Tees and Louis Vuitton Bags | Weekday Wear Link Up

Two colourful printed maxi skirt outfits I wore recently; with yellow tees, sneakers and Louis Vuitton bags.

What I wore:

mustard tee, red maxi skirt and white denim jacket with Louis Vuitton neverfull tote | away from blue

red maxi skirt with Louis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull | away from the blue

JacketCotton On girlfriend denim jacket in whitehaven
Necklace: Kmart navy and gold beaded tassel necklace
Tee: Big W mustard v-neck tee
Skirtthrifted Billabong 'Don't Think Of It' bikini red printed maxi skirt
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagLouis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull

Why I wore it:

This was a really fun day! Everything aligned for my family to have the day off for the first day of school holidays, so my mum, sister and I took the kids to Paradise Country for the first time. I'm so glad we planned to do this. Not only because it was a beautiful sunny day and the boys had a great time, but also because we found out after we had left the house that there were some COVID cases in the community (it had spread out of quarantine) and so restrictions were going to be coming in. And the next day there were more cases and a 3 day lockdown was announced, unfortunately ruining the rest of the school holiday plans.

Thankfully though we were worry free as we enjoyed the day out! The kids had a blast, there was so much to do and see there for such a small park. The koala cuddles were of course my favourite bit!

It was so warm too I even considered taking my denim jacket off at one point, but by that point the boys had taken their jackets off and we had bought a few things so my poor Louis Vuitton Neverfull was looking too stuffed for me to consider trying to add my jacket on top of it! I think the white denim jacket was a great topper with this (apart from being a little too warm in the middle of the day). It's not the first time I've worn this red maxi skirt with yellow but it's the first time I've tried so much yellow with it, and with the white denim jacket on top it didn't feel too bold.

What I wore:

blue and yellow outfit with tie dye maxi skirt, speedy bandouliere, yellow tee | awayfromblue

Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere with tie dye maxi skirt | awayfromtheblue

JacketWittner 'Santa Fe' cobalt blue leather jacket
Necklace: Jeanswest Taryn turquoise tassel bead necklace
Tee: Jeanswest essential v-neck tee in elfin yellow
Skirt: Jeanswest Farrah blue tie dye maxi skirt
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere

Why I wore it:

Another colourful outfit, this time with a bit more of a subdued yellow tee, and a whole lot of blue! We were still in the 3 day lockdown but the kids had a dentist appointment and of course as they are providing medical care the dentist was still open. It was a really wet day and a little chilly so I pulled out this leather jacket for the first wearing for winter! I like the bright cobalt blue against the blues in the tie dye print on the maxi skirt. Because of the rain I wanted a waterproof bag too, so I chose this little Louis Vuitton damier ebene speedy bandouliere. It's perfect for a wet day, even if lockdown rules meant we were just outside to walk from the carpark to the dentist and back, ha! Thankfully Cooper is not the kind of dog that enjoys walks in the rain so we didn't have to spend lots of time in the rain.

Only downside to this outfit was that it took a while for my leather jacket to dry off when we got home. I was worried the slit on the maxi skirt might make it too cool for a wet day but the jacket on top kept me cosy, and it was very warm in the dentist!

Last worn: cobalt leather jacket, turquoise tassel necklace, pastel yellow tee, tie dye maxi skirt, Adidas Superstar, Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere.

Other ways to wearcobalt leather jacket and shift dress, pastel yellow tee and shorts, tie dye maxi skirt in monochrome outfit, Adidas Superstar and dress, Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere and pencil skirt.

Perfect for pregnancyLouis Vuitton speedy bandouliere in third trimester.

How You Can Wear It:

With a colourful printed maxi skirt, a bright block colour tee is a good pairing. If you're worried the combination is too bold, a neutral topper like a denim jacket can tone the brightness down a little. Or you can dial up the colour and pick a colourful jacket like I have in the second outfit to tie in with the print on the skirt.

Graphic Tees, Denim Jackets, Maxi Skirts and Converse with Chloe Paraty | Weekday Wear Link Up

Winterising my maxi skirts with some denim jackets, with mixed results after Brisbane had a much colder than usual start to winter in the early days of June!

What I wore:

denim jacket, graphic tee, red printed maxi skirt, blue converse, small paraty bag | away from blue

red printed maxi skirt with Chloe periwinkle small Paraty | awayfromblue

Jacket: Jeanswest Kitty denim biker jacket
NecklaceHouse of Harlow Dynamic necklace in gold
Tee: Primark Edinburgh white graphic tee
Skirtthrifted Billabong 'Don't Think Of It' bikini red printed maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star coast blue
BagChloe periwinkle small Paraty

Why I wore it:

This red Billabong maxi skirt has been a staple since I thrifted it nearly 4 years ago. I'm always surprised when I look in my blog archives and see it hasn't hit 30 wears yet, I wear it a lot! When I was looking through the archives to get the latest count on number of wears for this skirt I realised I hadn't worn it with this graphic tee! I've worn it with other white tees in the past and really liked the combination, so this was an obvious choice.

I picked up this tee from Primark in Edinburgh on our Europe trip in 2019, a great souvenir from our trip. With the blue graphic print on the tee, the blue denim jacket, periwinkle blue Chloe Paraty bag and blue Converse were the obvious matchy-matchy options. Even though the blue shades don't match exactly they do compliment well! The only thing I didn't like about this outfit was the necklace kept slipping down under my tee - a different necklace would have been better.

I really liked the blue and red of this - the skirt always makes me happy when I wear it and I needed something comfortable and colourful to try cheer me up for another dentist appointment.

Last worn: moto denim jacket, gold necklace, Edinburgh graphic tee, red printed maxi skirt, blue Converse All Star, Chloe periwinkle small Paraty bag.

Other ways to wearmoto denim jacket and printed jeans, Edinburgh graphic tee and floral kimono, red printed maxi skirt and striped tee, blue Converse All Star and shorts, Chloe periwinkle small Paraty bag and sundress.

Unboxing My Chloe Paraty:

What I wore:

Jacket: Bubblegum denim jacket
Tee: Kisschasy The Final Roar band tee
Skirt: Target navy side split maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagChloe periwinkle small Paraty

Why I wore it:

This outfit was not such a good idea. The same formula as the one above, with a graphic band tee instead of just a regular graphic tee, another printed maxi skirt, denim jacket, Converse and the same Chloe small Paraty bag. I've even worn the tee and skirt together before too. It was a comfortable outfit for working from home, but this skirt has a slit on the side. As usually happens around this time each year, I've tried to wear it on a day that was just a little too cold for it!

I was nice and comfortable and warm while working from home but when hubby and I went out to an appointment in the evening I was regretting the skirt - it really is a warm weather option and it got so cold that night! Thankfully it was a short appointment and we could quickly go back home so I could change into something warmer. Made realise it's time to start thinking about swapping my denim jackets for leather jackets too!

Last worn: blue denim jacket, Kisschasy band tee, navy striped maxi skirt, white Converse Chucks, Chloe small Paraty bag (above).

Other ways to weardenim jacket worn 30 ways, Kisschasy band tee and jeans, navy striped maxi skirt in monochrome outfit, white Converse Chucks and bermuda shorts, Chloe small Paraty bag and culottes.

Perfect for pregnancyblue denim jacket in second trimester, Kisschasy band tee in second trimester, white Converse Chucks in second trimester.

How You Can Wear It:

Graphic tees and denim jackets are failsafe combination! You can use a printed maxi skirt to add more colour and interest to an outfit. In the first outfit the red skirt works as a contrasting colour, in the second outfit the maxi skirt ties in with the blue and white colour scheme of the rest of the outfit for a more monochromatic result.

Embroidered Tops, Denim Jackets, Maxi Skirts and Micro Bedford Bag: Weekday Wear Link Up

Getting a couple more wears from my denim jackets before winter really set in here in Brisbane at the start of June! They are a nice light layer for these embroidered tops and maxi skirt outfits with Converse and my little Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag.

What I wore:

denim jacket, embroidered tank and ruffle hem maxi skirt outfit for winter | away from blue

black maxi skirt, Rebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight | awayfromtheblue

Jacket: Bubblegum denim jacket
Tank: Target embroidered khaki tank
Skirt: thrifted Crossroads black ruffle hem maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight

Why I wore it:

While I've worn this olive tank with a black maxi skirt before, it's the first time I've paired it with this particular maxi skirt. I really liked the combination - with the black embroidery on the olive tank, wearing it with more black is such an obvious choice. While it was a warmer autumn day I still needed something to cover up my arms, so I went with this classic denim jacket that works with everything. See 30 different ways to wear it here.

With the blue denim jacket, the neutral navy Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag was a nice matchy-matchy option. I didn't need to carry much either as it was a quieter day with just the school drop off, helping in my son's classroom and then relaxing with the little one before school pick up and sports in the evening.

Last worn: denim jacket, olive embroidered tank, black ruffle hem maxi skirt, Converse, navy Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag.

Rebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford Review

What I wore:

awayfromblue Instagram | white denim jacket with navy embroidered tunic, red printed maxi skirt and navy micro bedford bag

Necklace: Tiffany & Co silver 5th Avenue notes heart pendant necklace
Top: Caroline Morgan navy embroidered tunic
Skirtthrifted Billabong 'Don't Think Of It' bikini red printed maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star coast blue
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight

Why I wore it:

Unlike the first outfit above, I wasn't so confident this would work. The embroidered navy tunic is so pretty but with the print on the maxi skirt I wasn't sure if it was too busy. I'm so glad I gave this a go though, really liked it. The white denim jacket pulled it all together nicely and I do always like navy with this skirt. Again, the Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag was a bit of matchy-matchy with the navy top. Even though the Converse are a different shade of blue from the blue in the embroidery I thought they went well with this too.

Had a busy day! After school drop off the little one and I spent some time visiting my mum at her work, and then we had to go drop some books off at the library. I'd made it to my mum's work okay with the GPS (I've only been there a handful of times) but heading to the library instead of back home was tricky. At one point the GPS tracker line just jumped off the road and piled up into a big scribble. Never seen that before! Anticipating that it would just recalculate I tried to go further down what I thought was the right road and it tried to catch up but then the line just stopped....so I ended up pulling off onto a side road and trying to figure the route out myself as it yelled conflicting nonsensical directions at me. Even my son in the back of the car was getting annoyed in the end and kept asking when we would be there at the library already 😂We made it in the end, even if we took the very long scenic route!

How You Can Wear It:

An embroidered top and a maxi skirt make for an easy, boho outfit. You can add a denim jacket as an simple layer for a cooler day too that won't clash with any embroidery or print you have in your outfit.
