Monochrome Maxi Skirt Outfits With Contrasting Crossbody Bag

Blue is my favourite colour and my go-to when I need a bit of an extra boost. I wore all the blue in these outfits, with some blue thrifted knits and blue printed maxi skirts. Added the prune Rebecca Minkoff MAC bag the boys got me for mothers day as the perfect pop of colour.

What I wore:

Jumper: thrifted Valleygirl blue knit jumper
Skirt: Jeanswest Farrah blue tie dye maxi skirt
ShoesAsos Cleo leather boots in tan
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff prune MAC with pom pom and tassel keychain

Why I wore it:

This was all about being comfortable! With the school run and working from home I wanted something cute and cosy, and this was perfect! I was eager to try winterise this maxi skirt, which is a great piece in summer but the side-slit would normally make me pass over it in winter. Decided to try my knee high leather boots underneath so there was no bare leg to deal with the winter chill and it worked really well! So much that I tried the boots and side split maxi skirt outfit combo again a couple days later, as you can see below.

Last worn: cobalt knit, tie dye maxi skirt, tan boots, Rebecca Minkoff prune MAC.

Other ways to wearcobalt knit and printed jeans, tie dye maxi skirt and red tee, tan boots and floral dress, Rebecca Minkoff prune MAC and double denim.

Perfect for pregnancycobalt knit in first trimester.

What I wore:

Jumper: thrifted blue Kmart stitch detail knit
Skirt: Ally Fashion blue border print floral maxi skirt
ShoesAsos Cleo leather boots in tan
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff prune MAC with pom pom and tassel keychain

Why I wore it:

What a day this was! It was a lot colder than expected so even with the knee high tan boots on under this maxi skirt, I really felt the breeze from the side splits in the skirt! Thankfully the stich detail knit kept me cosy on top. We headed out to an opshop (thrift store/charity shop) to drop off some donations, because I'd thought they were also having a special weekend sale day. I was very surprised to get there and find the opshop closed. And the kids were unimpressed as they were looking forward to a good rummage through the books!

Luckily they have a donation bin so we could still drop off when they were closed, but it was a much shorter trip than expected. It was only later in the afternoon that I went to look up the event on Facebook and realised that I'd got mixed up, and it was another local opshop that had a sale day! We will just have to catch the next one.

With the pink and turquoise floral print on this maxi skirt, I wasn't sure the prune MAC bag would be a good accessory with it, but just like above I think the deep magenta shade actually worked really well with this skirt. Will have to wear them together again soon, just maybe on a warmer day!

Last worn: blue knit, floral maxi skirt, tan boots (above), Rebecca Minkoff prune MAC.

Other ways to wearblue knit and jeans, floral maxi skirt with pink tee, tan boots and skinny jeans, Rebecca Minkoff prune MAC and printed dress.

How You Can Wear It:

Pairing two pieces of clothing together in your favourite colour is an easy and mood-boosting way to come up with a tonal outfit. And if one of the pieces you want to wear is a summer maxi skirt, try layering up a little with knee high boots and a cosy knit.

  1. absolutely LOVE the contrast! Bag is the perfect item to bring it! o very cute!
thanks so much for many comments on my blog. I was wondering how tall are you as you mentioned you are on short side. I have always assumed you are tall because of how you are built. We have a rainy weekend here so we'll stick home

  2. Blue certainly is your colour, Mica, and it's impossible for me to choose a favourite here. The prune Rebecca Minkoff is gorgeous, and the perfect pop of colour against the all-blue outfits! xxx

  7. These outfits are fabulous. I really love that blue sweater! It looks cozy, warm, and still really stylish. What a letdown that the opshop was closed. It's always disappointing when you have your heart set on something, but I'm glad you were able to make the donations anyway!

  11. No wonder blue is your favorite color Mica, it's fabulous on you.
That's a bummer about the op shop being closed that day. I end up putting those sales in my calendar because I have the worst time keeping them all straight in my head, haha.

  15. How disappointing that your op-shop was closed! I love all this rich blue - it really is a great colour on you, and most perfectly set off with that lovely bag (such a great colour). Good call on adding boots underneath your long skirts - I do that in winter as well (and I wear tights and slips!). I love that your pinks don't quite match in the second outfit ("they just have to GO"). I'm picturing all of your outfits with your bag that I'm working on, lol - I'm having so much fun doing it for you (the sides are almost finished!).

  16. With the floral print in your second outfit, I think your bag looks great! It really pulls out the pink/purple tones.
