Weekday Wear Linkup: Two Ways To Wear A Grey Skater Dress

For today's Weekday Wear Linkup I'm showing you two ways to wear a simple grey skater dress, taking it from work to a night out by changing the accessories.

This neutral grey dress is a great staple in my wardrobe and really should be worn more! I packed it for our Europe trip and it reminded me I should get it out more often.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

Was feeling a bit uninspired with what to wear, knowing I had a busy day at work and then a night out in the evening. A dress is an easy outfit staple so I went with that, and this grey one is extremely comfortable. Kept it monochrome for a day in the office, wearing it with my black boucle jacket to dress up the casual tee fabric a little, the sparkly statement necklace worked well to do that too.

The big purple Balenciaga work bag adds a pop of colour. I find it so hard to do monochrome looks, I always sneak some colour in somewhere! I'm thrilled I got to wear the shoes again too, it's been a while since the last wearing and I've tried to wear them recently but the rainy forecast always made me change my mind, they were definitely overdue a wear and I'm pleased the weather cooperated this time!

And yes, I held the Balenciaga work bag backwards in every pic...obviously not properly awake that morning!

Why I wore it:

After the busy day at work I came home and quickly got changed to head out to dinner with some mum friends. I swapped the boucle blazer for this green floral duster. I love the bold burst of colour it adds to the neutral grey and I like the skater dress and duster combo - I've worn this skater dress with another duster before too.

The navy necklace and tassel earrings added more colour to the dress, and the tan boots are a neutral classic. It was a cooler spring evening and I was grateful I'd picked ankle boots to wear on the way home from the restaurant, kept me a little cosier. I didn't need to bring much as it was a kid-free dinner so wore my Amerii round straw cross body bag. Simple little outfit changes that had me ready and out the door quick enough to be on time for dinner, after giving the boys plenty of hugs!

I got ready so quickly I forgot to put on the bracelets I'd set aside, but I think the navy necklace and earrings were enough extra colour with the green kimono.

A comfortable skater dress in a neutral shade like this grey one is so easy to dress up or down. Try sticking to monochrome colours in the office with a classic blazer to dress it up a little, or make it more casual and colourful like I have in the second outfit with a bright duster and statement accessories.

Wearing Tops Over Maxi Dresses With Ankle Boots: Casual and Dressy

Following a simple outfit formula and adding a top over a printed maxi dress to make it a skirt, but creating two very different looks!

What I wore:

Earrings: Kmart mustard gold tassel earrings

Jacket: Warehouse cropped zip detail jacket
Tank: thrifted Valleygirl metallic sequin tank (gift from my mum)
Dress: Jeanswest grey snake print maxi dress (worn as skirt)
Shoes: Acne pistol boots in "skin"
Bag: Chanel vintage quilted lambskin flap

Why I wore it:

Sequins and snake print together is not my normal style of dressing, but I pushed myself out of my comfort zone a little with this outfit for the Brisbane Fashion Runway show. The theme was a touch of glitter and I think this tank nailed it perfectly!

I knew I wanted to wear this snake print maxi dress but couldn't find a sequin topper, so thrifted a few possible necklace options at the opshops after spending a few weeks fruitlessly hunting for something with sequins. None of the necklaces felt quiet right with the dress but luckily my mum found this sequin tank for just $2 in her local opshop and it was exactly what I needed! Big thanks to my mum!

Apart from the $2 tank, everything else was already in my wardrobe. The cropped black blazer is one I won in a blog giveaway years ago and considered donating it a few times. Glad I kept it as it was a much cooler day than expected with the rain all morning. Thankfully it cleared up in the afternoon for the show.

Had a really fun time despite worrying I'd feel out of place, never been to an official fashion show before but Emily and Mel were great people to go with. Big thanks to Emily for the photos too!

Why I wore it:

This was the morning after the night before! 😂 Needed something simple and comfortable after a few drinks before, during and after the fashion show! Mum life means 3 drinks in one night and staying up past my normal bed time is far too much, ha! Stuck with the same outfit formula but a lot more casual.  I love wearing this high-low maxi dress as a skirt and the grey tee was the perfect topper with it.

The black straw bag and ankle boots were simple matching accessories that made getting ready in the morning a bit easier! We made it to church but did spend the rest of the day afterwards at home, trying to relax as much as you can with two little boys!

Slouchy Tees, Printed Maxi Skirts and Statement Necklaces With Red Rebecca Minkoff Micro Avery Tote

I love a good slouchy tee and I love a maxi skirt – paired together it makes a comfortable and practical outfit for days with the kids. To dress up these outfits a little I wore statement necklaces with them, and my trusty little red Rebecca Minkoff micro avery bag.

Why I wore it:

A busy day when I wore this! I did a little opshopping in the morning to pick up a few more necklace options trying to find the perfect way to accessorise my dress for an event, and we had to stop by the library and grocery store.

The afternoon was more relaxed, a leisurely stroll / bike / scoot around our local park after a last minute rush to the bank to pickup a copy of a letter that never arrived . This comfortable outfit was just what I needed. I loved this statement necklace against the red slouchy tee, I’ve worn it with a red tee before and liked it then too. The vertical striped maxi skirt has pockets too which is so practical. And the gold mouse flats matched the gold hardware on the little Rebecca Minkoff micro avery bag nicely.

Why I wore it:

Not the first time I’ve worn this beautiful red thrifted maxi skirt with a blue tee! I like blue and red together so this skirt is worn with blue a lot, and the $3 thrifted skirt with the tee that works out to about 63 cents makes for a very affordable outfit! I got the tee in a bag of clothes in the “fill a bag for $5” sale which is why it works out so cheaply! I was dressing for comfort as we headed out to the airport early in the morning to pick someone up, and then lunch and shopping with my sister later.

I picked this silk beaded necklace to use as distraction for the boys while we waited at the airport – but thankfully we didn’t have to wait wrong. The extra pearl bracelets were another distraction tool – it’s so normal for my boys to play with my accessories when I pick them up for cuddles – part of the reason I rarely wear delicate or sharp statement necklaces on my SAHM days, preferring them for office days!

How You Can Wear It:

There's a fashion "rule" that you shouldn't pair two voluminous pieces, like a slouchy oversized tee and a billowy maxi skirt together. But I say you should wear what makes you comfortable, and a maxi skirt and tee is such a comfy outfit! Perfect easy outfit for a mum too, no worrying about the skirt being too short as you run around with the kids!

Weekday Wear Linkup! Long Sleeve Blouses and Pencil Skirts For Spring

Trying a new colour scheme and an old favourite for today's Weekday Wear Linkup, with some pretty blouses and textured pencil skirts.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

I'd planned to wear this outfit the previous day I was in the office, but the crazy heatwave meant I changed up what I'd planned to wear then, and wore this on my other office day instead. I was glad to be able to wear this outfit at last!

Thought I'd try something a little different with the blush skirt and the berry blouse together. I really liked the colour combo, and decided to keep it simple with everything else, going without a necklace or statement earrings and just wearing black accessories. I thought the black ballet flats and Balenciaga part time bag matched the fuzzy polka dots on the skirt nicely.

Why I wore it:

Unlike the first outfit, this is a colour combo I often wear. This blue lace skirt looks great paired with other blue pieces and when I saw this blouse in the Target clearance sale I thought of wearing it with this skirt right away. Instead of a necklace I wore my Kmart gold and mustard tassel earrings, to match the gold mouse flats. The Rebecca Minkoff navy Regan bag matched the navy top and lace skirt well too.

The only downside with this outfit is that the blouse looked a bit too voluminous with the half tuck. Think I need to try tuck it all in next time. It's an awesome relaxed trapeze cut but it made tucking into this high waisted skirt a little tricky!

Waterfall Cardigans, Printed Shorts And V-Neck Tees With Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC

It's been a very hot spring so far in Brisbane but the mornings and evenings started out a little cooler, so I decided to add some cardigans to my shorts and tee outfits to keep me warm. Even if I did end up taking both cardigans off by lunchtime 😂

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

I really like pink and purple together and I like how this purpley-magenta cardigan works so nicely with the neon pink Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag. They were fun accessories with the monochromatic grey tee and black printed shirt too. The cardigan became much too hot halfway round the trail the kids were biking and scooting around so I quickly took it off. Had been perfect in the colder start to the day though.

Nice quiet day with the kids, shorts and tee and Converse was a great outfit, even if the cardigan didn't stay on long.

Why I wore it:

This navy cardigan didn't stay on long at all! It had seemed like a nice idea in the morning but I quickly realised during swimming lessons that it was far too hot for it, and left it in the car!

I did like the way the navy cardigan worked so well with the navy printed shorts and the bright mustard tee, just was a much warmer day than I anticipated! I like mustard and navy together, and although the yellow in the print on the shorts is lemon I think the mustard tee paired nice with it and was a fun pop of colour with the navy. I went a little matchy-matchy with my accessories, wearing my metallic silver mini MAC bag and also my glittery silver sneakers.

How You Can Wear It:
In spring and autumn, cardigans are great layers to add for the cooler mornings and evenings and aren't too bulky to pop in a bag if you take them off during the day. You can try wearing your cardigans with printed shorts when you know the day is going to heat up, using the cardigan to add more colour like I did in the first outfit, or matching the print in the shorts like I did in the second outfit.

Weekday Wear Linkup! Navy Blouses and Colourful Pants Business Casual For Spring

I love a good outfit formula, so for today's Weekday Wear Linkup I'm sharing two very similar outfits I recently worn to work with colourful pants and classic navy blouses and my slouchy Balenciaga Part Time bag.

Why I wore it:

First wearing of this new navy blouse I picked up in the Target clearance sales! In the last days of the sales things are often reduced to $5, so when I needed a break from the office one lunch time I headed to target in the city to browse the sale. I got this great blouse reduced from $39 to $20 and then the extra 50% off made it $10, not a bad deal! I tried on a few other things but this was the only one that worked. The statement necklace was another new purchase and impulse buy, just $3 from the opshop! September was a month of impulse buying for me.

It's not the first time I've worn these burgundy pants with navy tops, it is a frequent go-to combo! I kept the rest of the accessories simple, with the silver ballet flats, black Balenciaga Part Time bag and metallic necklace, to let the colours be the star of the outfit.

The only thing I did notice with this blouse is that the collar on the back pulls it down quite a bit with the extra weight - as it's a flowy swing style it's not fitted enough to stay in place. I'll need to try tuck it in next time I wear it! It was nice and comfortable for work, and I like the cute piping detail along the sides of the sleeves, even if I did forget to get a good pic of it as I was so busy giving our little doggy guest some pats! She's squeezing in all the pats she can while being dog sat by us before she returns to her family.

Why I wore it:

Unlike the first navy blouse, this one is an oldie. I picked it up on sale last year and it's been the best addition to my wardrobe. I like the studded detail for a little extra interest, and the tie at the neckline means that I didn't need to add a necklace with this. I did add my teal earrings though for a little extra colour. With the navy blouse, olive pants and teal earrings I kept the accessories simple again, going with my fave black ballet flats and my Balenciaga Part Time bag.

Just like the outfit above, these olive pants have been worn with navy before, even though it's surprisingly the first time I've worn this blouse and jeans together before. Got to love a business casual environment where people can wear jeans through the week - these olive ones look deceptively like standard pants but have all the comfort of jeans! They are so good at doing double duty for work and SAHM days.

My nails are OPI a good man-darin is hard to find, just like in the outfit above. I felt like getting this bright colour out again for spring.
