Tiered Kmart Dresses, Bead necklaces and Crossbody Bags | Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear Link Up, sharing two tiered Kmart dresses I wore recently, in different colours and lengths! I wore my little crossbody bags to carry the essentials, and accessorised these dresses with different statement beaded necklaces. Both necklaces were recent opshop (thrift) finds!

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

This started out as a lazy quiet day with the kids at the playground, trying to get out early to avoid the heat. We'd just got home for lunch when my sister called looking for present advice - she was out shopping with my mum. Ended up deciding to meet them for lunch at Ikea, their next destination. Gotta love the Ikea meatballs! I was very restrained and only walked out of Ikea with two storage boxes I'd been looking for, usually I buy a lot more than I intend to. There were some very cute things there but I resisted.

Wore my Adidas Superstar sneakers for comfort - great for running around the playground with the kids and they also worked for exploring Ikea. I like blue and purple together but surprisingly haven't worn this lilac necklace with this navy tiered dress before - it was such a nice combo. The Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote bag in plum is a very different shade of purple, but I liked it with the navy too and thought both shades of purple accessories worked well with this outfit.

It was great to have time catching up with family, and also good to see how quickly Ikea was open again after the floods the week before. I hadn't realised it had flooded until we saw the sign at the door advising us they were still working on restoring everything. A few car parks were roped off as they were still flooded but other than that it was business as usual in the store.

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a birthday party for my son's friend. It was another hot and humid day back at the end of summer so I was thankful it was a pool party! This light tiered Kmart dress is so good in the heat too. I tried to dress it up a little with this big black multi strand beaded necklace I picked up at the opshop back in February. I figured it was a good piece as it's easy to put on and take off and it's waterproof too.

Spent most of the time in the pool with the kids so I didn't get a lot of wear from this dress, but it was perfect for before and after swimming, such a good cover up! We were really lucky to have perfect timing - the rain didn't arrive until we were cutting the cake at the end of the party, although it had been a wet day the day before and turned into a very rainy afternoon.

I didn't need to carry much on me as I had a big reusable tote with all our swimming things and towels, so just had this cute little straw circle bag for my phone, keys and wallet. Hadn't worn this little straw bag in a while so it was definitely due another wear, I wasn't concerned about it getting splashed or getting wet in the rain either.

A cute tiered dress in any length is an easy pull on and go instant outfit. You can always accessorise with a bid beaded statement necklace like I have here to help your outfit feel a little more pulled together, and a little crossbody bag is always a good choice as well.

Kmart Floral Dresses With Amerii Circle Straw Bag

Kmart and their cute and affordable floral dresses are just too hard for me to resist! While the teal dress I'm wearing below is a relatively new one my mum bought me for Christmas last year, the coral one is a frequently repeated one as I've had it a couple of years. Both are great additions to my wardrobe.

Why I wore it:

Wore this a few weeks ago, in the first week of March, when hubby surprised me with a night out. Back when a night out was still possible and sensible in Australia! With the kids at their grandparents, we headed into the city for dinner and a movie like we used to do while dating. We had a decadent dessert for dinner at Max Brenner before watching a movie in an otherwise empty cinema. We've never had a whole cinema to ourselves before!

There were of course other people around in the city, particularly at Southbank, but we kept remarking on how quiet it was. Of course now, a few weeks later, the then moderately full restaurants are now completely empty. How quickly the world changes.

As I had to pull an outfit together at short notice I went with a trusty maxi dress, and simple gold accessories with this gold necklace that was definitely over due a wear and my gold mouse flats. I added the waterfall jacket as it was a little breezy, especially when walking by the river. Being kid free I just needed my phone and wallet so this little straw bag was perfect.

Why I wore it:

I'll be honest - the bag is completely for show here, because what else would I do with my hands when taking a pic 😂 Unlike the outfit above, this outfit was planned out well in advance. With my son's birthday party last week we'd sent out the invites, bought all the cake ingredients, decorations, party bags, party favours...and then we were told to enforce social distancing in Australia. We figured maybe as it was in a park we would still be okay.... but then we were told that grandparents shouldn't see their grandkids.

So we very regretfully had to cancel my son's birthday celebrations. I know people around the world are dealing with worse and it's a minor inconvenience, but as a mum you don't want to see your kids upset!

We went ahead with the party at home, just us, his brother and the dogs. We still played party games, still had party food and all the decorations, and I still wore the outfit (and the bag!) I'd planned even though we didn't leave our house. I wouldn't ordinarily wear such a pretty dress if no-one would see it - but I felt like I should still put the effort in to get dressed up like I would if he'd had the party we planned.

Weekday Wear Linkup: Two Ways To Wear A Grey Skater Dress

For today's Weekday Wear Linkup I'm showing you two ways to wear a simple grey skater dress, taking it from work to a night out by changing the accessories.

This neutral grey dress is a great staple in my wardrobe and really should be worn more! I packed it for our Europe trip and it reminded me I should get it out more often.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

Was feeling a bit uninspired with what to wear, knowing I had a busy day at work and then a night out in the evening. A dress is an easy outfit staple so I went with that, and this grey one is extremely comfortable. Kept it monochrome for a day in the office, wearing it with my black boucle jacket to dress up the casual tee fabric a little, the sparkly statement necklace worked well to do that too.

The big purple Balenciaga work bag adds a pop of colour. I find it so hard to do monochrome looks, I always sneak some colour in somewhere! I'm thrilled I got to wear the shoes again too, it's been a while since the last wearing and I've tried to wear them recently but the rainy forecast always made me change my mind, they were definitely overdue a wear and I'm pleased the weather cooperated this time!

And yes, I held the Balenciaga work bag backwards in every pic...obviously not properly awake that morning!

Why I wore it:

After the busy day at work I came home and quickly got changed to head out to dinner with some mum friends. I swapped the boucle blazer for this green floral duster. I love the bold burst of colour it adds to the neutral grey and I like the skater dress and duster combo - I've worn this skater dress with another duster before too.

The navy necklace and tassel earrings added more colour to the dress, and the tan boots are a neutral classic. It was a cooler spring evening and I was grateful I'd picked ankle boots to wear on the way home from the restaurant, kept me a little cosier. I didn't need to bring much as it was a kid-free dinner so wore my Amerii round straw cross body bag. Simple little outfit changes that had me ready and out the door quick enough to be on time for dinner, after giving the boys plenty of hugs!

I got ready so quickly I forgot to put on the bracelets I'd set aside, but I think the navy necklace and earrings were enough extra colour with the green kimono.

Wearing Tops Over Maxi Dresses With Ankle Boots: Casual and Dressy

Following a simple outfit formula and adding a top over a printed maxi dress to make it a skirt, but creating two very different looks!

What I wore:

Earrings: Kmart mustard gold tassel earrings

Jacket: Warehouse cropped zip detail jacket
Tank: thrifted Valleygirl metallic sequin tank (gift from my mum)
Dress: Jeanswest grey snake print maxi dress (worn as skirt)
Shoes: Acne pistol boots in "skin"
Bag: Chanel vintage quilted lambskin flap

Why I wore it:

Sequins and snake print together is not my normal style of dressing, but I pushed myself out of my comfort zone a little with this outfit for the Brisbane Fashion Runway show. The theme was a touch of glitter and I think this tank nailed it perfectly!

I knew I wanted to wear this snake print maxi dress but couldn't find a sequin topper, so thrifted a few possible necklace options at the opshops after spending a few weeks fruitlessly hunting for something with sequins. None of the necklaces felt quiet right with the dress but luckily my mum found this sequin tank for just $2 in her local opshop and it was exactly what I needed! Big thanks to my mum!

Apart from the $2 tank, everything else was already in my wardrobe. The cropped black blazer is one I won in a blog giveaway years ago and considered donating it a few times. Glad I kept it as it was a much cooler day than expected with the rain all morning. Thankfully it cleared up in the afternoon for the show.

Had a really fun time despite worrying I'd feel out of place, never been to an official fashion show before but Emily and Mel were great people to go with. Big thanks to Emily for the photos too!

Why I wore it:

This was the morning after the night before! 😂 Needed something simple and comfortable after a few drinks before, during and after the fashion show! Mum life means 3 drinks in one night and staying up past my normal bed time is far too much, ha! Stuck with the same outfit formula but a lot more casual.  I love wearing this high-low maxi dress as a skirt and the grey tee was the perfect topper with it.

The black straw bag and ankle boots were simple matching accessories that made getting ready in the morning a bit easier! We made it to church but did spend the rest of the day afterwards at home, trying to relax as much as you can with two little boys!

Soft Knits And Maxi Skirts In Winter With Cross Body Bags

I love layering up my maxi skirts a little more for winter! A cosy comfy knit it a great pairing with a maxi skirt, for maximum comfort and extra warmth on a winter day.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

It was a really cold and windy day when I wore this - as you can see from my outfit being blown around a bit! It was so hard to get a pic without my scarf or hair over my face! I wasn't wearing leggings under this maxi skirt but I kind of wished I had - one of Brisbane's really cold winter mornings - the temps were down in single digits!

Our plan for the day was to go to the playground but the wind and the freezing temperatures made that a very unattractive option! Instead we just headed out on a couple of errands inside the nearest shopping centre to stay warm and get outside the house for a bit.

Why I wore it:

In contrast to the day above, this was a much warmer day! No need for the extra leather jacket or scarf, and I wasn't wishing I'd worn leggings under my maxi skirt. Although I was wearing taller boots under it so my legs were pretty cosy!

Just a quiet Sunday, with church in the morning and then Church Online in the afternoon. I really like blue and red together, and I've worn this red skirt with other blue tops in the past.

It's the first time I've tried the red bag and maxi skirt together though, it was a nice bit of matchy-matchy. Since the red micro Avery bag has gold hardware, I wore my navy and gold beaded necklace and navy and gold tassel earrings. I really liked this outfit, so nice and colourful and very comfortable!

A maxi skirt can be worn in cooler weather and isn't just a summer piece! I've been enjoying wearing my maxi skirts over winter. Adding a nice soft cosy knit is a great way to winterise a maxi skirt, adding a few more layers like a scarf and leather jacket for really cold days!

Printed Maxi Skirts and Denim Jackets With Amerii Rattan Sling Bag

Enjoying some warmer than usual winter days with my maxi skirts and denim jackets, and my new Amerii straw bag.

Amerii contacted me through YouTube a while ago and asked if I wanted to try one of their bags in exchange for a review - I was thrilled and had fun picking out this piece to try.

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a busy day! Church and then a little shopping at Kmart for things for our pantry reorganisation. Now we are all moved into our new house, we are just trying to set up everything how we like it, it's slow but fun progress! As it was slightly warmer when I wore this back in June, I just needed a denim jacket and no scarf.

With the black rattan bag, I thought a black tee and black ankle boots matched nicely and worked well with the colourful blue denim jacket and red printed maxi skirt. This skirt is a summer favourite, but it layers up well for a warmer winter day like this.

Why I wore it:

When we had that brief period of summer like weather back in the middle of June, despite it being winter, I took full advantage and the boys and I headed to our favourite playground to enjoy the sunshine. I also got the chance to wear this side-split maxi skirt, which usually I wouldn't be pulling out on a winter day!

The denim jacket wasn't really necessary, I ended up taking it off as we sat in the sunshine - it was 27° Celsius, so about 82 Fahrenheit. So unexpected for winter!

The mustard yellow tee seemed like a colourful choice for the warmer day, and was a fun pop with the white stripes. Again I stuck with the black ankle boots to match the black round rattan bag. I really liked this outfit.

Maxi skirts are a summer staple and great for mum life, especially if they are loose and flowy or have a side split to take advantage of a summer breeze. It's easy to layer them up for cooler weather too, with ankle boots and denim jackets. You definitely need more heavy duty layers if you're attempting to wear them on a cold winter day though! 😂
