What I wore:
Necklace: Starfish Project Hannah turquoise bead necklaceTop: Jeanswest Maya gather back tank in chartreuse
Shorts: Jeanswest Parker printed shirred short
Shoes: black slim Havaianas thongs
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather
Why I wore it:
Wore this for Australia day, so I had to go with the green necklace to have a bit of green and gold with the mustard tank. I've worn this tank and necklace together before too. It was something a little different for Australia Day, as we usually try host a BBQ but skipped it this year. We went to the Yayoi Kusama exhibition at Brisbane's Gallery Of Modern Art before having lunch in the city. I was hopeful we might get to see some more of the exhibition but our main goal was to see The Obliteration Room in the kid's area. You get given a sheet of stickers, walk into a white room and get to stick the stickers wherever you want. Toddler heaven! The boys are always trying to stick stickers everywhere at home, so I thought they'd enjoy being given free reign and leaving their imprint on a fun work of art. As you can see from the Instagram photo, it was near the end of the exhibition so there wasn't much white left, but it was still a lot of fun. They had an incredible time and although I didn't get to see other bits of the exhibition I'd wanted to, it was so much fun seeing how much they enjoyed the room.
I'd thought of wearing a monochromatic outfit as it would look great in photos, but wanted to wear my mustard tank more. I did feel a little regret when I watched a lady in a black and white dress posing in front of a professional grade camera and realised her shots would look beautiful! But I was happy and comfortable in this outfit, nice for a hot day out in the city. I did dress the boys in white shirts and they looked especially cute in all the photos. Of course I regretted that outfit choice later too when they had ice cream... 😂
Last worn: mustard tank, Parker printed shorts, Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC.
Other ways to wear: mustard tank and blue shorts, Parker printed shorts and grey tee, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC and boho dress.
Perfect for pregnancy: Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC and mustard tank in second trimester.
The aqua mini MAC was my first Rebecca Minkoff bag purchase. My collection has grown quite a lot since!
What I wore:
Necklace: Lovisa wooden statement bead necklace
Top: thrifted Cotton On yellow tankShorts: Jeanswest Tessa olive embroidered shorts
Shoes: black slim Havaianas thongs
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather
Why I wore it:
I shared this on Instagram for Australia day but I'd worn it a few days before, I just hadn't gotten around to sharing it then. It was a busy day, with the daycare runs, my usual working from home, and then a specialist appointment for the little one. The stress of a busy day and of trying to find and get to a new location on time was quickly forgotten when we stopped to buy milk on the way home and I picked myself up a well-earned tub of Ben and Jerry's!Given how high I had to wear these shorts to disguise the mum-tum though, probably could have skipped the ice cream. Still ate and enjoyed it though!
The necklace is gold and the chain on the mini MAC is silver, and the aquamarine doesn't match anything else I'm wearing, but I really liked this outfit. I think the colours all worked so nicely together despite not matching, and it was perfect for a hot summer day.
Last worn: mustard tank, olive embroidered shorts, Havaianas (above), Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC (above).
Other ways to wear: mustard tank and flares, olive embroidered shorts with stripes, Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC and maxi dress.
Perfect for pregnancy: mustard tank in second trimester, Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC and maternity denim.
Soft Shorts Under $50:
How You Can Wear It:
Soft shorts are the best for a hot and humid day. A plain tank is always a good basic to wear with them, especially if they have a print or embroidery as these ones do. Another benefit to a basic tank is that you can be a little more adventurous with your necklace and pick a bolder statement piece if you want.

I love both of your outfits Mica. I love yellows and mustard colors. I always take the easy route and pair them with white, but you've given me some great ideas as to how to pair them with prints and that olive is gorgeous.

Glad I could give you some ideas Kim! I'm always looking for new ways to wear mustard, I love it! :)
DeleteYou should never ever skip the ice cream after a long and stressful day!

It's just amazing seeing people enjoying summer, and we're stuck in a perpetual winter! I love the olive shorts, they're so cute x
ReplyDeleteVelvet Blush
I love your bag and how it pairs so well with the mustard! And don't compare yourself with someone else, you look just amazing!

hehe thank you Ruth! I had fun in my outfit, even if my pictures won't be as impressive! :)
DeleteI don't know how I'd manage without those soft pairs of shorts during summer. Oh man, holy grail this year too. It's been such a stinker in Melbs. I've recently discovered my lost love for mustard. I brought a trench (shocker, right?!) from ASOS and can't wait for cooler weather to bring it out.
ReplyDeleteHope you and the fam are having an amazing weekend so far,

I can't wait to see how you wear that mustard trench, it sounds awesome! :)
DeleteHappy Australia Day, Mica! I love this combination of colours on you - you look fabulous in gold.
ReplyDeleteI love how you always use colour to make your outfits pop, and this one is no different. I love the bright and the paler contrasting, it's so aesthetic. If I walk around London everyone's in muted greys and monotone, if they dressed more like this it would be much nicer.

Thanks Amy! I find summer makes me want to wear all the bright colours!
DeleteYou have so many great bags. I love the mustard color, I just have a mustard skirt in my closet... you styled the color so effortlessly here! Happy Australia Day!

I never used to be into the colour mustard, but it's 100% grown on over the past year. Both of these colour combos look lovely and cool on you babe; the relaxed fit of the shorts looks so comfortable! Hope you're having a fab weekend so far :)
ReplyDeleteaglassofice.com x
It's really been growing on me lately, such a fun colour! :)
DeleteNo way, you can't skip the Ben and Jerry's! It was well-deserved I'm sure. :) I just picked up a couple of pints for my husband and I this weekend. I love both of these looks, especially the first one--I love the colors! That sticker exhibit sounds like fun. What kid wouldn't love doing that!?
ReplyDeleteYes, it was ideal for kids! :) And I'd never turn down ice cream after a tough day, haha! Definitely well-deserved ;)
DeleteI love both outfits, Mica! The green and gold is a great combo and is perfect for Aussie Day! I've never thought of pairing green and gold together, which is a bit silly considering it's our Olympic colours! ;) It really is a great colour combo and looks fab on you, Mica! Hope you've had a relaxing weekend :) XXX
ReplyDeleteI usually default to that colour combo for Australia Day, haha!
DeleteSo great you were able to catch that Yayoi Kusama's exhibition, it must have been fun. I love visiting exhibitions, it's always love to see someone's artwork and/or to learn something attending a history or themed exhibitions.
ReplyDeleteI love both of these outfits. The first outfit is so adorable, those shorts are so cute!
The second outfit is also very pretty. I love how you wore those shorts higher and paired them with a yellow top. A higher waist is always flattering, makes us look taller and longer, especially when it comes to shorts.
Great tips on wearing shorts as well! I sometimes wear them in Winter but with warm leggings.
Have a nice Sunday!!!
It was so nice to see the exhibition, even if I didn't get to explore as much of it as I'd like with the kids, haha!
DeleteHappy belated Australia day, it sounds like you had a good one. :) I don't even think we have an England day over here... I might be wrong though! I really like the mustard top, mustard is one colour I've been trying to talk myself into wearing as I really like how it looks on others. Always worry that it wouldn't suit me, though! <3 Thanks for sharing lovely, hope you're having a good weekend. xoxo

ReplyDeleteIt was a series of rooms, it was amazing!
DeleteMustard and green is a match made in heaven. You have an amazing collection of handbags, Mica and they are so lovely. Like the fact that you wore green colour necklace to celebrate Australia Day :)

Great summer fashion! It's so cool that you caught the Yayoi Kusama exhibition. I wanted to go when it was in New York but the lines were always insane.
ReplyDeleteThe lines for some parts of it were so long, we were lucky to get in early for the Obliteration room before it got too busy.
DeleteVery cute bag! Both shorts are adorable, too! Nice job styling these looks. :)

Thank you all for your lovely comments! :)
ReplyDeleteLoving the beautiful bold yellow tops with the cute soft shorts! I don't believe I own any soft shorts, but seeing how comfortable and stylish they look on you I may have to give them a try when it warms up here. I am sure your kiddos had a blast pasting stickers wherever they wanted. Sounds like kid paradise! Thanks for linking up with Fabulous Friday, Mica!
ReplyDeleteJennie - A Pocketful of Polka Dots
Oooh Australia day sounds like fun. My daughter would have loved all the stickers too. Love both of these looks with soft shorts. Mustard and olive pair so well together. And that Rebecca Minkoff purse has the cutest green color. I also love your necklaces.

Thanks, Ada. =)
I don't own much yellow, but I do like its sunny bright feel so it is nice to see how others wear it. I think it is hard to find a good shade of it in clothing, but it seems you have! That tank is the perfect happy shade! That sticker exhibit sounds like so much fun! What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteA lovely yellow top! I would love some of your weather - it is so cold and damp in the UK at the moment!
ReplyDeleteSo chic and cute! Color looks perfect on you dear, vibrant so much life!
