Striped Dresses Scarves Chloe Ethel Bag

Two outfits I wore back at the start of May, when I just needed to add some cute scarves to these summer striped dresses to make them autumn weather appropriate.

What I wore:

Cotton On 'Tina' white striped tee dress in Lissy black / Gardenia with blue windowpane scarf chloe ethel bag and converse | awayfromblue

Chloe small Ethel bag in light khaki on arm with striped dress | awayfromtheblue

Scarf: thrifted no brand navy grid print scarf
DressCotton On 'Tina' white striped tee dress in Lissy black / Gardenia
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

Last time I wore this black and white striped tee dress with a blue statement necklace I really liked the combination, so I tried to replicate a similar outfit again with this blue grid print scarf. When I saw the scarf in the opshop I knew it would look so cute worn with striped pieces, and I really liked this outfit! Even if it was a little warm for the scarf in the middle of the day, it was nice in the cooler morning and evening.

Felt my Chloe Ethel bag was overdue another wear, and it was just the right size. I had an appointment to go to in the morning and this fits so much - easily space for all of my essentials plus the latest library book I was reading, for entertainment in the waiting room.

This was such a comfortable outfit too, as aside from the appointment I was just working from home. I've been liking dresses on those kind of days, simple instant outfits!

Last worn: black and white striped tee dress, Converse, Chloe Ethel bag. First time I've worn the blue grid print scarf as I thrifted it back in summer.

Other ways to wearblack and white striped tee dress in winter, Converse and shorts, Chloe Ethel bag and pink dress.

Why I wore it:

Another working from home and school run outfit. Wanted to add some colour to this outfit, but couldn't decide that morning which scarf would look best when the one I'd planned seemed too warm for the day - it was quite humid! This lighter parrot print scarf was one I eventually settled on, and I really liked it with the dress. It did make me a little late to drop the kids off at school though, trying on all these different scarves in the morning. 😂 Thankfully we made it in class before the bell as I was parent helper. It ended up being a much cooler afternoon too so I was wishing when I picked up the kids from school that I had picked the warmer scarf to wear!

Again the Chloe Ethel bag was the perfect neutral bag for this - although I did just have to carry my essentials this time around, I thought the caramel colour was really nice with the print in the scarf.

Last worn: parrot print scarf, navy striped shift dress, blue Converse, Chloe Ethel bag (above).

Other ways to wearparrot print scarf and teal top, navy striped shift dress and statement necklace, blue Converse and midi skirt, Chloe Ethel bag and jeans.

How You Can Wear It:

Stripes are fun to print mix with! For a subtle but still fun print mix, try adding a printed scarf to a striped dress like I have in these outfits.

Matching Necklaces and Kimonos With Tanks and Denim Shorts

Matching some statement beaded necklaces to the colours in some pretty printed kimonos with these summer shorts and tanks outfits. Balancing out the extra colour with my neutral Chloe Ethel bag too, and staying comfortable in my sneakers. Perfect outfits for some summer school holiday playdates.

What I wore:

purple printed kimono with lilac necklace, turquoise tank, distressed denim shorts and chloe ethel bag | awayfromblue

purple kimono with Chloe small Ethel bag in light khaki | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue Instagram | purple printed kimono with lilac necklace denim shorts turquoise tank and Chloe Ethel bag

Necklace: thrifted purple wooden bead statement necklace
Top: Jeanswest Maya gather back tank in mid turquoise
Shorts: thrifted Jeanswest distressed denim shorts
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

This was a fun morning but a busy afternoon! We had a playdate with some of my son's school friends and while the boys were all busy playing I got caught up chatting with all the other parents - we ended up spending quite a bit of time at the park! It was home for a very quick lunch and then lots of errands in the afternoon. Had to drop off more donations from our pre-Christmas clear-out to the opshop too.

I like blue and purple together so thought that this turquoise tank would look nice with the lilac necklace and purple kimono - even if the shades of purple in the print are darker than the necklace. Worried that the turquoise tank might be a bit too bright and light for this but I'm glad I gave it a try as I really liked the colours in this outfit, I think it all worked together well. Was nice and comfortable for sitting around at the park too!

Last worn: purple chevron print kimono, lilac statement necklace, turquoise tank, distressed denim shorts, New Balance sneakers, Chloe Ethel bag.

Other ways to wearpurple chevron print kimono and jeans, turquoise tank and pencil skirt, distressed denim shorts and striped tank, Chloe Ethel bag and maxi skirt.

My Chloe Handbag Collection (Past and Present):

What I wore:

Necklace: thrifted red flat bead necklace
Top: Jeanswest Maji metallic tank in soft green and silver
Shorts: Jeanswest Heather Bermuda short in black
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

Another playdate! This was, like the outfit above, one I'd planned out and wasn't sure if it would work. After putting it on that morning I still wasn't sure it worked - the neutral silver tank with the light beige kimono maybe not the best combination, even with the red necklace for an extra pop of colour and to match the red in the print of the kimono. However I wasn't going to get changed again!

I'd managed to injure my back and was in a lot of pain that morning so I figured the outfit was good enough, ha! I decided to still go to the picnic playdate as planned, to let the kids enjoy the playground as I tried to socialise with the other mums. I did a lot of whining about my sore back though, ha! The movement and walking around did help loosen it up a bit as I hoped, as it was just a pulled muscle. Even made it out to the library that day although I did spend a bit of time in the afternoon letting the kids watch a movie while I laid down to rest my back some more!

I really liked the red necklace with this kimono, and the Ethel bag looks great with it too. I've worn the kimono and bag together before too and enjoyed the combo then too. I just think a different coloured tank might have been better here.

How You Can Wear It:

A fun printed kimono is a great way to add more colour and interest to a plain tank and shorts outfit for summer. You can match the colours in the kimono to something else in your outfit too like I have here with the necklaces as an easy way to coordinate your outfit.

Monochrome Flared Skirt Dresses And Chloe Ethel Bag

Two dress outfits with fitted waists and flared skirts! Both are monochromatic, but one is a lot brighter than the other. It's the first wear for one and the 30th wear for the other too.

What I wore:

pink dress with Chloe small Ethel bag in light khaki on arm | awayfromtheblue

awayfromtheblue Instagram | thrifted Kmart short sleeve godet skirt linen blend dress in fuchsia

Necklace: thrifted purple wooden bead statement necklace
Dressthrifted Kmart short sleeve godet skirt linen blend dress in fuchsia
Belt: came with dress
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

I adore this dress! Fellow Aussies probably recognise it as the fuchsia linen dress from Kmart back in summer 2020 that was all over Insta. I was absolutely thrilled to stumble across this in the opshop, and for just $1! Someone had cut out the size label, so I was really pleased to find it fit when I tried it on. The necklace was another thrift find at the same store too, for just $2. Combined with the $3 thrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers from another opshop, this really is a bargain outfit. Even the bag itself was a second hand find on eBay, just $120 which isn't bad for something that retailed for over $1,249. I've had a lot of great luck opshopping and second hand shopping this year and this outfit shows that well!

Despite the rain falling down behind me it was a very humid day. It would rain and cool off slightly, then the humidity would crank up, then it would rain again. Perfect day for a bit of indoor shopping at the nearest shopping centre after school drop off  - although everyone else in Brisbane seemed to have the same idea to get out of the rain and enjoy the break in the humidity from the aircon! This was the best dress to wear, comfortable in the humidity but not too cool in the shops with my shoulders covered. We had a productive day, crossing a few more Christmas presents off our list and visiting the library as well before school pick up in the afternoon. Luckily the rain had stopped then.

Last worn: Adidas Superstar sneakers, Chloe light khaki Ethel bag. First time I've worn the necklace and dress as they are recent purchases.

Other ways to wearAdidas Superstar sneakers and denim skirt, Chloe light khaki Ethel bag and jeans.

November's Opshop Haul:

Necklace: thrifted orange bead statement necklace
DressAsos grey skater dress
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

Just like the dress above, this has a fitted waist and a flared skirt, although this outfit was not as cheaply priced as the one above. This dress was a retail buy, although I did pick it up in the sale! The Converse were a full price buy before a trip and turned out to be a good investment - I've had them since my now husband and I were dating and we've been married over 10 years!

I find I like wearing this grey dress more when I add some colour to it, and this newly thrifted necklace was a perfect fit with the kimono, I like how it matched the orange in the print. The Chloe Ethel bag was a nice neutral choice with all the orange colour and I think it went well with the colours in the kimono too. It fits a lot as well so came in helpful for holding water bottles and a couple of distraction toys for the kids in church that morning.

Last worn: orange printed kimono, orange beaded necklace, grey skater dress, black Converse, Chloe small Ethel bag (above).

Other ways to wear: orange printed kimono and chambray dress, grey skater dress and leather jacket, black Converse and jeans, Chloe small Ethel bag and midi dress.

How You Can Wear It:

A block colour dress with a flared skirt works perfectly for summer - rain or shine! It's easy to add a little extra colour with a beaded necklace or kimono, and a neutral bag is always a winner.

Distressed Denim Skirts, Kimonos and Chloe Ethel Bag | Weekday Wear Link Up

Two more easy outfit formulas - distressed denim skirts, kimonos and tanks with my Chloe Ethel bag for today's Weekday Wear Link Up.

What I wore:

floral print duster kimono with metallic tank distressed denim skirt sneakers chloe ethel bag | awayfromtheblue

Chloe small Ethel bag in light khaki | awayfromtheblue blog

JacketJeanswest Melanie floral kimono
Necklace: thrifted orange bead statement necklace
TankJeanswest Maji metallic tank in soft green and silver
SkirtNobody Denim Piper vacation skirt in black distressed denim
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

This was one of those days where I was a little forgetful and paid the price! After a week of rain and storms the clouds cleared and it was finally sunny and perfect timing for getting the kids out to the park. Was doing my usual rushing around that morning making sure everyone had everything and then we went out, not realising that while I'd put sunscreen on my face and the kids were slathered in sunscreen, I'd forgotten to put any on my limbs. Couldn't figure out why I was so thirsty at the park and why my arms and legs were so itchy until I got home and the redness started to show through, oops!

Good reminder of the importance of a kimono in summer though - while my legs were very red, only some of my arms were as this kimono was great physical sunblock! And I appreciated it covering the tops of my arms as it was a little breezy that morning, although it did get less windy through the day.

Although there's no orange in the floral print of this kimono the red is a very orangey-red so I thought the orange statement beaded necklace I recently thrifted would look great with this! I liked the simple metallic silver tank with the gold hardware on the Chloe Ethel bag too. I was worried it might clash a little with the different metals but I think they are far enough apart that it worked. This Ethel is a great size for fitting snacks and water bottles too, it holds more than you would think!

Necklace: thrifted gold large double circle necklace
TankAsos satin singlet in pink
Skirt: JayJays distressed denim mini skirt
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

Despite loving the outfit above and following a similar outfit formula for this outfit, I feel it doesn't look as good. It was a usual mum life day with school drop off, sports and a playdate for the little one, before more sports for both kids in the evening after school pick up.

I really like pink and blue together so the blue distressed denim skirt and navy printed kimono seemed like great pairing with the pink tank. I'd tried tucking the tank in that morning and decided to leave it untucked, thinking that looked better once I added the kimono on top. Looking at these photos though maybe I should have tucked it in. I felt great in this outfit all day, just one of those cases where I look at the photos afterwards and the camera captured it differently from the mirror, ha!

Because the requirements to wear masks indoors has been lifted and I wasn't going anywhere crowded I took the opportunity to wear some statement earrings that I've been avoiding lately as they don't play nice when we had to frequently wear and remove masks. I thought these circular disk earrings went nicely with the circular necklace. Again wore my Chloe Ethel bag, it was nice with the gold accessories and again it was helpful to hold everything needed with water bottles and snacks.

Last worn: blue printed kimono, disc earrings, circle necklace, pink satin tank, distressed denim skirt, Adidas Superstar, Chloe Ethel in light khaki (above).

Other ways to wearblue printed kimono and shorts, pink satin tank and pencil skirt, distressed denim skirt and cami, Adidas Superstar and dress, Chloe Ethel in light khaki and printed jeans.

Perfect for pregnancypink satin tank and hidden second trimester bump.

How You Can Wear It:

Kimonos look great with denim! Distressed denim skirts and pretty printed kimonos are an easy outfit formula, and with a basic tank you can let the kimono be the statement piece of print and colour in your outfit.

Knits and Printed Maxi Skirts | Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear Link Up I'm sharing some comfortable outfits for making the most of the end of winter weather back in August. Squeezing in another wearing of some cosy winter knits with printed maxi skirts before it warmed up too much with spring days away.

What I wore:

ombre stripe knit with red boho print maxi skirt for late winter birthday party park outfit | awayfromblue

Chloe small Ethel bag in light khaki with red printed maxi skirt | away from the blue

Earrings: Piper gold heart earrings
Necklace: layered Tai gold alphabet necklaces
Knit: Jeanswest 'Serena' ombre knit
Skirtthrifted Billabong 'Don't Think Of It' bikini red printed maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

This was a really foggy morning after a rainy evening the day before. We had a very small (due to Covid restrictions in place at the time) birthday party in the park to attend for my son's friend. Being by the bay I didn't want to be too cold if the clouds stuck around and there was a lot of breeze off the water, but I didn't want to overheat if the sun came out either. I figured the open knit of this ombre jumper was a good compromise. The sun came out just after we left the house though and it turned into a really warm day! I kinda regretted wearing the jumper!

I thought the ombre would be an interesting pairing with the print on the maxi skirt too, the neutral knit balancing it out so it didn't look too bold. Changed my mind a couple times before going ahead, but in the end even if the knit was a little warm I'm glad I tried something a little different with this skirt!

The Chloe Ethel was perfectly sized for carrying everything I needed - it fits so much inside! I also had a big green bag though for the picnic blanket, jumpers for the boys in case it was cold (that they ended up not needing at all), and a book for me to read after the party while the kids played in the playground.

Last worn: gold heart earrings, ombre knit, initial necklaces, red printed maxi skirt, black Converse, Chloe Ethel.

Other ways to wearombre knit worn two ways, red printed maxi skirt worn 30 ways, black Converse and shorts, Chloe Ethel and jeans.

Perfect for pregnancyombre knit at 40 weeks, black Converse in second trimester.

Choosing A Handbag for Every Occasion Tag

What I wore:

Necklace: silver heart long pendant necklace
Knit: thrifted Valleygirl blue knit jumper
Skirt: thrifted pinstripe maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta

Why I wore it:

Much like the day before this was a foggy start to the morning and it warmed up much more than I expected! Ended up taking my jumper off as I sat in the back garden while the little one played. It was a quiet day at home really. My eldest boy had an event on most of the day so I was grateful for the jumper in the cooler morning when I dropped him off, and in the afternoon when I picked him up.

As I didn't have much to do or many places to be I wore my cute little Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody bag again - it's a good size for the essentials like phone, wallet, mask, keys and hand sanitiser. I really like the way it pops with the cobalt knit too!

This grey pinstripe maxi skirt is an incredibly comfortable one - I knew it was overdue a wear but I was shocked to see I hadn't worn it since 2020! Definitely needs to be worn more, I love the cut, so different from all my other maxi skirts. Like the cobalt knit, it was an opshop find too and another thrift bargain.

Last worn: cobalt knit, silver heart necklace, grey stripe maxi skirt, black Converse (above), Rebecca Minkoff magenta Edie crossbody bag.

Other ways to wearcobalt knit and jeans, grey stripe maxi skirt and striped scarf, black Converse in the office, Rebecca Minkoff magenta Edie crossbody bag and culottes.

How You Can Wear It

Maxi skirts and jumpers are cosy and comfortable for winter days. Try a neutral knit and a colourful skirt, or vice versa, for an easy outfit.

Striped Tees, Skinny Jeans and Colourful Cardis

Sharing two recently worn striped tee and jeans outfits, with colourful cardigans to combat the cooler winter weather in Brisbane.

What I wore:

Necklace: Uniquely Made with Love Sea Change necklace
TeeCotton On "The One" fitted v tee in Cole stripe white moonlight
Jeans: Jeanswest Vicki skinny pant in moss green
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

This was a colder than expected winter day with a bit of rain and I actually wished I'd added a scarf to this outfit after the school drop off in the morning! I did like it when I wasn't feeling too cold though.

Was a quiet day but it was good to get out and about with it being the first full day after the 8 day Brisbane lockdown ended at 4pm the evening before. Doing the school run and attending our regular appointments again was so nice after an extra long 8 day lockdown.

These olive jeans look great with mustard, I like wearing this mustard cardigan with them. And you can't go wrong with a classic striped tee! The Chloe small Ethel bag was again a good choice as it fits so much - all the essentials plus my younger son's hoodie and both our water bottles.

What I wore:

Rebecca Minkoff 2012 sky grey mini MAC bag with magenta jeans and navy cardigan | awayfromtheblue

TeeAtmos&Here navy stripe v-neck tee
JeansSass & Bide The Winning Day Lovestate jeans in magenta
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
BagRebecca Minkoff 2012 sky grey mini MAC bag

Why I wore it:

A quickly thrown together outfit I wore a while ago, for our final day of lockdown. (Before the day above!) We'd used up all the bread for breakfast that morning, so after watching the press conference and finding out the good news that lockdown was ending as planned I got out of loungewear and headed out to the shops to grab some bread.

Jeans and a striped tee is such an easy outfit, and I thought these magenta jeans added a nice touch of colour. The navy cardigan was a matchy-matchy choice with the navy stripes on the tee, but I didn't really need it. It was such a warm day I was eager to take it off when I got back home. The kids spent most of the day playing in the little tent you see in the background there!

Because all I needed was one loaf of bread I wasn't out long - this cute little blue Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag is nice with the darker navy blue of the cardigan and is perfect for just a wallet, mask, hand sanitiser and car keys.

How You Can Wear It:
You can't go wrong with jeans and a tee! A striped tee is a classic and a good way to add a print to your outfit. A bright cardigan or pair of jeans - or both! - can add more colour too.

Midi Dresses, Sneakers and White Jackets | Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear Link Up, one printed and one plain Kmart midi dresses and white jackets outfits.

What I wore:

awayfromblue Instagram | Kmart teal floral print midi dress with jacquard jacket for business casual office outfit with metallic silver rebecca minkoff mini mac

Jacket: Jeanswest Cassandra jacquard jacket
Necklace: engraved interlinked silver circle family name necklace
Dress: Kmart teal floral print midi dress
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC

Why I wore it:

Back in the office again, on a slightly warmer winter day meaning I could go bare-legged. I've thought a few times about pairing this boucle jacket with this pretty teal floral midi dress. Stripes and florals look so good together and the silver and grey in the white jacket matches so well with the floral print on the dress. So glad I finally gave the combination a go, I loved this outfit! Stuck with comfortable sneakers, as being back in the office is still quite a casual affair and I didn't want to be overdressed.

With the silver metallic thread in the jacquard jacket the metallic silver mini MAC seemed like a good choice - and on a kid free office day I didn't need to carry a lot. It was nice getting into the office again and catching up with colleagues in person, seeing colleagues I saw a few weeks before, last time I was in the office and also some I hadn't seen since before lockdown last year. We all come in on different days with the hybrid ways of working meaning we primarily work from home, so it's always nice to see who will be in the office!

Last worn: jacquard jacket, silver necklace, teal floral midi dress, Adidas Superstar sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff metallic mini MAC.

Other ways to wearjacquard jacket and jeans, teal floral midi dress and ankle boots, Adidas Superstar sneakers and shorts, Rebecca Minkoff metallic mini MAC and maxi skirt.

Perfect for pregnancyjacquard jacket in third trimester, Rebecca Minkoff metallic mini MAC in third trimester.

Wardrobe Tour and Handbag Storage

Necklace: Colette tortoise shell acrylic disc tassel necklace
Dress: Kmart short sleeve tiered jersey dress in Fuchsia
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

Rather dressed up for our third day in lockdown! I'd not expected the lockdown announcement on the weekend so our Monday was packed with quite a few things to do. With our busy list of activities and the warmer weather, I'd already had this outfit planned to wear. I figured I may as well wear it and enjoy the warmer winter weather before it went back to normal temps, even if everything we had planned was cancelled with lockdown

Didn't have much to do in the end - a little stroll through our neighbourhood for exercise and to get the kids out the house. The white denim jacket was a good cover up with this pink tiered midi dress. It looks good with the same dress in orange too! I did think of taking it off near the end of our walk though, it was a really hot day. Not helped by restrictions meaning I had to wear a mask at all times outside, even when it was just the kids and I on the trail. It was nice to wear this bright and cheerful dress to boost my mood, before remote learning and the work from home juggle started on Tuesday.

The Chloe Ethel bag was the easiest choice with this as it fit all three of our water bottles and some snacks in it for our short walk. It helped this feel even more like a proper outfit too, for me. Our lockdown has since been lifted as expected, it was a long one in Brisbane terms at 8 days, but I'm thankfully back to normal outfits and out of the lockdown loungewear I haven't been sharing on the blog!

Last worn: white denim jacket, Kmart pink tiered midi dress, tortoiseshell tassel necklace, New Balance sneakers, Chloe small Ethel bag.

Other ways to wearwhite denim jacket in double denim, Kmart pink tiered midi dress and clutch, Chloe small Ethel bag and printed jeans.

How You Can Wear It:

A midi dress is so easy to dress up or down - perfect for a day in the office, or a casual stroll around the neighbourhood with the kids on a warmer day.
