What I wore:
Necklace: thrifted orange bead statement necklace
Tank: Jeanswest Maji metallic tank in soft green and silver
Skirt: Nobody Denim Piper vacation skirt in black distressed denim
Shoes: New Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual
Bag: Chloe small Ethel bag in light khaki
Why I wore it:
This was one of those days where I was a little forgetful and paid the price! After a week of rain and storms the clouds cleared and it was finally sunny and perfect timing for getting the kids out to the park. Was doing my usual rushing around that morning making sure everyone had everything and then we went out, not realising that while I'd put sunscreen on my face and the kids were slathered in sunscreen, I'd forgotten to put any on my limbs. Couldn't figure out why I was so thirsty at the park and why my arms and legs were so itchy until I got home and the redness started to show through, oops!Good reminder of the importance of a kimono in summer though - while my legs were very red, only some of my arms were as this kimono was great physical sunblock! And I appreciated it covering the tops of my arms as it was a little breezy that morning, although it did get less windy through the day.
Although there's no orange in the floral print of this kimono the red is a very orangey-red so I thought the orange statement beaded necklace I recently thrifted would look great with this! I liked the simple metallic silver tank with the gold hardware on the Chloe Ethel bag too. I was worried it might clash a little with the different metals but I think they are far enough apart that it worked. This Ethel is a great size for fitting snacks and water bottles too, it holds more than you would think!
Last worn: tropical floral print duster, silver tank, distressed denim skirt, New Balance sneakers, small Chloe Ethel bag. First time I've worn the necklace as it was a recent opshop find.
Other ways to wear: tropical floral print duster and shorts, silver tank and pencil skirt, distressed denim skirt and purple tee, small Chloe Ethel bag and jeans.
Chloe Ethel Reveal:
What I wore:
Earrings: Colette Joanne teal and gold multi drop disk earrings
Necklace: thrifted gold large double circle necklace
Tank: Asos satin singlet in pink
Skirt: JayJays distressed denim mini skirt
Shoes: thrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual
Bag: Chloe small Ethel bag in light khaki
Why I wore it:
Despite loving the outfit above and following a similar outfit formula for this outfit, I feel it doesn't look as good. It was a usual mum life day with school drop off, sports and a playdate for the little one, before more sports for both kids in the evening after school pick up.I really like pink and blue together so the blue distressed denim skirt and navy printed kimono seemed like great pairing with the pink tank. I'd tried tucking the tank in that morning and decided to leave it untucked, thinking that looked better once I added the kimono on top. Looking at these photos though maybe I should have tucked it in. I felt great in this outfit all day, just one of those cases where I look at the photos afterwards and the camera captured it differently from the mirror, ha!
Because the requirements to wear masks indoors has been lifted and I wasn't going anywhere crowded I took the opportunity to wear some statement earrings that I've been avoiding lately as they don't play nice when we had to frequently wear and remove masks. I thought these circular disk earrings went nicely with the circular necklace. Again wore my Chloe Ethel bag, it was nice with the gold accessories and again it was helpful to hold everything needed with water bottles and snacks.
Last worn: blue printed kimono, disc earrings, circle necklace, pink satin tank, distressed denim skirt, Adidas Superstar, Chloe Ethel in light khaki (above).
Other ways to wear: blue printed kimono and shorts, pink satin tank and pencil skirt, distressed denim skirt and cami, Adidas Superstar and dress, Chloe Ethel in light khaki and printed jeans.
Perfect for pregnancy: pink satin tank and hidden second trimester bump.

How You Can Wear It:
Kimonos look great with denim! Distressed denim skirts and pretty printed kimonos are an easy outfit formula, and with a basic tank you can let the kimono be the statement piece of print and colour in your outfit.

That's a good reason to wear a kimono! I like denim skirts a lot, better then denim trousers. Lovely looks!
ReplyDeleteYes they are fantastic physical sunblock!
DeleteOh goodness, sunburn is no fun! Thank goodness you had the kimono.
ReplyDeleteGlad you felt good in the 2nd outfit all day; that's what really matters most. I know the frustration when what we see and what the camera captures isn't the same - I say what we see is spot on!
xo,
Kellyann
Thanks Kellyann! I was so grateful I had the kimono to minimise the sunburn!
DeleteBoth skirts look lovely on you Mica. The handbag is very pretty and goes well with both outfits. Have a great week ahead

I really like the way the second outfit looks in the pictures, you are too hard on yourself.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anne! I liked how the outfit felt it just looks a bit off in photos I think compared to the other one!
DeleteGreat stylizations! I also like the handbag very much. I like such large models because you can fit all the things you need in them.
ReplyDeleteSuch cute denim skirts!
ReplyDeleteOh no! At least you had a little bit extra protection from your kimono. I often wear a lightweight long sleeve shirt out even in the Summer if I can just to help protect my arms from the sun.
ReplyDeleteReally glad to hear that mask mandates are relaxing for you! That's a good sign!
Best wishes,
Alexandra

Yes sun protection is so important, I feel bad I forgot to put any on my arms and legs!
DeleteI like your outfits. Nice mix and match with kimono.
ReplyDeleteI have found that I wear my knee length denim skirts more in the fall and winter.

I do agree that - in spite of the pop of colour from your tee :-) - the first outfit looks more balanced. I'm loving the orange necklace and that divine kimono, which you were lucky to be wearing. Ouch, sunburn is no fun at all! xxx
ReplyDeleteYes I definitely preferred the first outfit :)
DeleteI love distressed denims whether jeans or skirts with kimono combo.
ReplyDeleteSo chic and so cool.

Love this outfit formula with the kimono, short denim skirt, and sneakers! Sun burn is no fun, glad you at least had partial coverage. Hope you and your family are enjoying the holiday season, and thanks for the link up!
ReplyDeleteYes it was so silly to forget sunscreen, I'm glad I had my kimono to have some of me covered up!
DeleteLOVE the pink and the blue together! Have a great week <3
ReplyDeleteLovely outfits and love the vintage Chloe.

These are good looks and love the kimono :-D
ReplyDeleteMica, I think you looked great in both outfits! Love the kimonos and that bag is TDF:) TBH, most of my outfits, I feel comfy in and then I look at the pics I take of me wearing them...it never looks like the way I have it in my mind...LOLZ
ReplyDeleteHave a great week ahead!
Yes I hate when the camera never captures how you feel in an outfit!
DeleteA very similar sunscreen mishap happened to me over the summer and I got an awful burn on my arms and shoulders - glad you were at least partially protected!
ReplyDeleteCourtney ~ Sartorial Sidelines
It's such a painful mistake to make! :(
DeleteHi
ReplyDeleteWhen I sunbath without protection, I also turn red ah!
Looking at your second skirt I remembered that I also have one, I have to look for it in my closet! I hate feeling so fat in certain clothes! I liked the first look most!

This is such a foolproof outfit combination. We all have those moments of temporary forgetfulness. It's a good thing your kimono protected your shoulders and arms somewhat from the sun. I always carry a cover up during the summer in case I end up somewhere indoors where it's too cold but sun protection is a good benefit as well.
ReplyDeleteYes they are great layers for physical sun protection and covering up in the cold aircon! :)
DeleteSunburns are no fun. Ouch. We're still doing the mask thing. I haven't worn anything but stud earrings for more than a year now. Although, I found this really cute pair of just plain quartz crystal that go with everything.
ReplyDeleteYou look great. Love that first kimono.
ReplyDeleteI actually prefer the second outfit over the first one - you just look so lovely in that shade of pink (vs. the putty, not my favourite colour). I like the orange necklace with the first kimono, but I think a matchy pop of red, orange or coral in the bag would have pulled it together.
ReplyDeleteWhat about a half-tuck on the shirt in the 2nd look? Just the front tucked in? That gives a glimpse of waist but allows the rest of you to be free. :)
So happy to hear you can take your masks off! Woo! I feel so exposed without my mask - it feels weird at first when I don't have it on.
Yes I really think I need to try a tucked in top with this skirt neck time! :) I think a bright bag with the first outfit would have been great too - a fun orange one is on my Wishlist but so hard to find! :)
DeleteI'm so envious of your summer outfits!!!

I am so sorry you were sunburned! That is always the worst feeling. Both outfits are gorgeous, but I especially love the second look. That skirt is so beautiful. And I love that you felt good in the outfit as well <3
ReplyDeletethe creation of beauty is art.
I think both outfits were cute Mica. Kimonos are one of those toppers that I just can't do without anymore. As for the sunburn, that's happened to me more times than I care to remember, ugh!!

I'm sorry to hear you got sunburned. I can sometimes be forgetful with sunblock and it's never a pleasant experience.
ReplyDeleteI do love both outfits though. The skirts look great with kimonos!

Yes it's such a bad thing to forget, so important to have good sun protection!
DeleteThat Chloe bag is AMAZING. Looks so soft and supple and ultra rich! LOVE. IT. And you cant really go wrong with a kimono or duster over a shorts look. Well played ma'am.
ReplyDeleteGreat stylizations! It's nice to look at when winter is in full swing in our country!
ReplyDeleteThanks all for your lovely comments - my sunburn did fade after a few days and is a good reminder to myself to take better care of my skin and always use sunscreen!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing your outfits and how you pair them with such lovely bags. This is spot on and I just adore it. I hope you’re having a lovely week.
