Yellow and Turquoise With Neutral Skinny Jeans Outfits

For today's Weekday Wear Link up, two outfits with similar colour schemes of mustard yellow and turquoise, but two very different resulting outfits. One I needed to layer a little more than the other, as winter draws to an end here in Queensland and we get a mix of warmer and cooler days before spring official starts in September.

What I wore:

turquoise and mustard yellow tee skinny jeans and floral duster kimono outfit | away from the blue

Balenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India turquoise moto bag | away from blue

Jacket: Jeanswest Melanie floral kimono
NecklaceRoie Designs feather, quartz and love charm long necklace
Tee: Big W mustard v-neck tee
JeansNobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (c/o)
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

With the suddenly warmer weather I wanted to get one of my kimonos out again! This duster one is great as it has longer sleeves that I appreciated doing the school drop off in the morning when it was a bit cooler. It was really warm in the afternoon though and I was glad it's not too thick a fabric!

I've worn it with yellow before, but it's the first time I've paired this mustard tee with it and I really liked the combination. The turquoise Balenciaga first bag is something I've accessorised this kimono with before though, such a fun way to wear even more colour to the already colourful print.

These Nobody Denim skinny jeans are a firm favourite as they go with everything and with the comfortable stretch in them they were perfect for a day of working from home with the school run and an afternoon specialists appointment.

What I wore:

mustard cardigan with monochrome grey skinny jeans and tee outfit, converse, skull scarf and Balenciaga first bag | awayfromblue

ScarfAlexander McQueen azure wool skull scarf
TeeAtmos&Here charcoal grey v neck tee
Jeans: Jeanswest Cecile dove grey skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

This was a busy day, with an early appointment for my youngest right after school drop off. I had to drive into the city for it and although I know some work places are back it was still busier than I expected on the drive in.

As it was a bit of a chilly morning I took advantage of needing to layer by adding some colourful pieces to an otherwise monochrome outfit. It's the first time I've worn this grey tee and the grey skinny jeans together but they were a great outfit base for the teal and turquoise Alexander McQueen skull scarf and the mustard cardigan. I liked how the turquoise skulls matched the Balenciaga first bag too.

Last wornmustard cardigan, teal skull scarf, grey v neck tee, grey skinny jeans, Converse (above), Balenciaga turquoise first bag (above).

How You Can Wear It:

Yellow and blue look great together, and turquoise and mustard are a nice example of that. With a bold colour combo you can keep the rest of your outfit neutral like I did in the second outfit with the monochrome grey, or add even more colour with a bright printed piece like the kimono in the first outfit.

Blue Knits, Black Jeans, Magenta Edie Bag, and Face Masks

Two very similar outfits with blue knits, black skinny jeans and my magenta Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody bag. Oh and some face masks too!

Queensland had a bit of a shock in July when some people lied about where they had been when they returned to the state (to avoid mandatory quarantine) and brought the virus with them from an outbreak in another state. It resulted in our first community cases in months. Previously the cases in Queensland had been contained to people returning to the state and doing their mandatory quarantine and not interacting with the public.

Since our suburb was then made a "restricted area" due to the higher than usual chance of catching the virus, one of our big supermarket brands requested that people wear a face mask in store. Not requiring, just requesting. As I already bought a few masks I decided I'd wear them when I shopped. I usually do all my grocery shopping online now, but with the cases rising in Victoria and the fear of more cases locally, not everything has been in stock and so I've had to go to the supermarket more than I'd like.

I took some pics while wearing the masks as although it may be controversial in some places I think there is no harm in putting on an extra piece of pretty fabric for a quick 15 minute shop to pick up essentials, if it makes the staff and other shoppers feel better. It makes me feel like I'm doing my bit too, although hopefully cases continue to stay low here and I won't be needing to wear masks outside the grocery store!

What I wore:

blue mossman knit with black nobody denim skinny jeans converse Rebecca Minkoff edie magenta bag purple scarf | awayfromblue

ribbed blue knit jumper with Rebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta | awayfromtheblue

Earrings: Ana Luisa 'Olivia' tassel earrings in pink

Sweater: thrifted blue Mossman knit jumper
JeansNobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (c/o)
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta

Why I wore it:

This was a bit of a mixed day! I'd got my online grocery order earlier in the week but it didn't have everything I needed. One of the things missing was a snack I'd planned to take as a "bring a plate" to socially distant drinks later that evening, so I had to go out to the grocery store that morning when I realised I otherwise had nothing to bring! My baking skills aren't quite good enough to inflict them on non family members yet!

Didn't want to get dressed up just for the evening so wore the same thing all day - this great bright blue cropped knit that works so well with these high waisted Nobody Denim skinny jeans. It's not so good with low waisted jeans! Added a little extra interest with the printed Fashion Scarf Girl scarf and my pink and gold statement earrings. The earrings made my first mask wearing a littler trickier than expected but I got there in the end.

I'd wanted to wear the magenta Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag as it is such a fun pop with the blue knit, and I was pleased when I realised that this mask almost matched it!

What I wore:

Necklace: Colette marble and gold pendant drop long necklace
Top: thrifted Valleygirl blue knit jumper
JeansSass & Bide Playman skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta

Why I wore it:

A very similar outfit to the one above with the blue knit and black jean combo, although with a warmer morning I didn't need a scarf as I wore this a week later. I wore this pretty gold and marble pendant necklace instead of a scarf, the pinks and purples went nicely with the Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody bag even though the necklace is gold and the hardware on the bag is silver.

As I wasn't wearing a scarf I thought I'd wear these printed skinny jeans to add an extra touch of interest - they are really fun but sometimes can be tricky to wear if I try add other prints with them. They work better, like here, as the statement print in the outfit. I did wish I'd worn a scarf in the afternoon when the wild weather blew in, but it was a much warmer morning than expected.

Stopped by my favourite photo taking spot after the school drop off before yet another Woolies trip, so I wore this pretty floral mask. Thankfully even though things have been out of stock when I've made online orders I've been able to get the things I needed in stores when I visit.

How You Can Wear It:

Black and blue look great together! Try a blue knit with black skinny jeans. For an extra pop of colour, try pink accessories too - they go so well with blue and stand out against black jeans.

Navy Scarf, Neverfull and Colourful Skinny Jeans: Weekday Wear Link Up

Two identical outfit formulas for today's Weekday Wear Link Up, but outfits for two very different days! Both a winter staple formula of skinny jeans, blue scarves, v-neck tees and cardigans. Accessorised with my Louis Vuitton Neverfull tote bag.

What I wore:

King Island walk outfit sass and bide skinny jeans white tee cardigan bird print scarf and Louis vuitton neverfull | away from blue

Jacket: Paper Scissors grey wrap cardigan
Scarf: navy bird print scarf
TeeAtmos & Here white essential v-neck tee
JeansSass & Bide The Winning Day Lovestate jeans in magenta
BagLouis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a very fun day at Wellington Point! We were lucky to get there when the tide was out so we could go for a walk out to King Island after lunch. When the tide is out, a sand bridge appears all the way from Wellington Point right onto the island. It's the first time we've been able to walk out there with both boys since my my now 4 old was a baby. The tide has not been in our favour before. The kids enjoyed exploring the island although I did regret the walk the next day - while it's a short walk at a couple of k's there and back, walking on sand is a bit rough on my injured knee, even though I took my shoes off to do it.

I wasn't sure what the weather would be like as last time we were there it was cold and windy - so I picked a light cardigan, my navy scarf and a fun pair of magenta skinny jeans. I really like these magenta jeans with blue and the grey cardigan was a good neutral. I thought the white birds in the print matched the white v-neck tee well too! I didn't end up taking this cardigan off - it was a warm day but the sea breeze meant I kept my arms covered. Although it was busy on the beach it was nice everyone kept their distance!

What I wore:

layred winter burgundy jeans and tee outfit neverfull heart print scarf waterfall cardigan | awayfromblue

navy scarf and cardigan with Louis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull | awayfromtheblue

Jacket: Jeanswest waterfall drape cardigan in navy night sky marle
ScarfStella McCartney heart print scarf
TeeAtmos & Here black essential v-neck tee
Jeans: Jeanswest Harper skinny pant in Russet
ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
BagLouis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull

Why I wore it:

A bit of a darker outfit for this cooler day! With the wet weather we headed to our local shopping centre for a bit of a browse and to pick up a few groceries. This was before the recent COVID cases in Brisbane, we are back to shopping online 99% of the time now! But it was good to get some presents for an upcoming birthday party, and treat ourselves to some new books (the kids got some Disney ones) and a Boost juice. They had a colour burst promo on so I decided to try the blue smoothie - not only was it delicious it is the first time I'd have a blue smoothie and I had to get a pic as it matched the blues in my outfit so well!

The Stella McCartney heart print scarf was a bit of matchy-matchy too, with the black in the print matching the black v-neck tee. I liked the navy cardigan with the scarf too, even though they are different shades of blue I think it worked well. The burgundy jeans added a little extra colour and the Louis Vuitton neverfull bag carried all of our water bottles and some snacks for the boys, as well as all of my essentials, so I didn't need to carry the baby bag as well.

How You Can Wear It:

Navy scarves go with so much! For something a little different you can try wearing them with colourful jeans instead of the classic blue denim. It's a good way to add more colour to a classic jeans, tee and cardigan outfit in winter.

30 Ways To Wear Red Skinny Jeans - #30wears Challenge

For this month's post I'm sharing a surprisingly versatile pair of red skinny jeans.

Each month I put together a post showing 30 ways I've worn something from my wardrobe (inspired by the True Cost documentary) to give you some ideas and inspiration for your own wardrobe.

30 Ways To Wear: Red Skinny Jeans

30 ways to wear red skinny jeans | away from the blue blog

I had been wearing these red skinny jeans on repeat recently as they wear so close to 30 wears, and I really wanted to get them over that number this winter. I don't really wear jeans in Brisbane's summer heat, so these are a cold weather outfit option for me. I'm glad to have hit my goal with them now and put together this post to look back on the ways I've worn them.

Cost Per Wear

These jeans have a pretty good cost per wear as I thrifted them (back in 2015) for just $5. It's taken me 5 years to get them up to 30 wears which is not a lot of wear considering I've had them so long, but it is a great cost per wear of just 17 cents. From worrying that they sagged too much when I first bought them (I just had to ease up on the fabric softener!), they have turned out to be a really versatile piece in my wardrobe. Even sticking with fairly safe colour pairings: blues and greys and white and black, I've manged to create a lot of different outfits with these pants. They show beautifully why a bright pair of jeans can be just as wearable as traditional blue denim.

Red Skinny Jeans With Blue

red and blue outfit ideas with skinny jeans | away from blue

Red and blue is a colour combination I wear a lot and these red jeans work so well with any shade of blue - cobalt blue of the knit, a navy tee or even a brighter blue like in the scarf, it just works. You'll see this colour combo pop up a lot in the rest of the post too!

Black Tops With Red Skinny Jeans

4 ways to wear black tops and red skinny jeans | awayfromtheblue

Probably the easiest way to wear any pair of brightly coloured jeans - just add a black top! This again is something I do a lot with these jeans - a black tank, tee or shirt works so well with the red.

Red Skinny Jeans With Neutrals

3 outfit ideas neutral pieces and red skinny jeans | away from the blue

Similar to the set above, more neutrals. As black isn't the only neutral that goes with these jeans! Tan and grey work well too and you can even add a neutral  printed piece like the leopard scarf or grey mixed print shirt to add even more interest with your neutral piece.

Denim Jackets And Red Jeans

3 ways to wear denim jackets and red skinny jeans | away from blue blog

I don't wear double denim very often. But a brightly coloured pair of jeans like this red pair makes it really easy to double up! A classic blue denim jacket is a nice contrast against the red and makes double denim really easy as the colours are so different.

Printed Tanks With Red Skinny Jeans

3 outfit ideas with red skinny jeans and printed tanks | away from blue

Prints are fun to wear with these red jeans to balance out your outfit a little, so your top makes just as much of a statement as the red pants. If you don't want your outfit to be too loud you can go with neutral printed tanks like I have in the first and third outfits.

Red Jeans With Stripes

4 outfit ideas stripes and red skinny jeans mum style | away from the blue

Stripes are a print worth calling out on their own!  I like the slight nautical vibe of a navy striped top with the red jeans, but black and white stripes look good too. Striped and denim is such a classic combo it works no matter what colour your jeans!

Red Skinny Jeans With Print Mixing

3 ways to wear red skinny jeans with print mixing | away from the blue

While it's fun to add a print to red jeans you don't have to stop at one print! As you can see here I've paired printed pieces like the striped tank or a printed cardi with more print mixing, with the scarves and bag and even in the middle the printed tank and cardigan together. I feel an outfit with bright jeans is a fun way to try out a new print mix as the jeans take most of the focus anyway!

Matching Red Jeans With Other Red Pieces In Your Outfit

Last but by no means least this is another favourite way to wear these jeans, with a little matchy-matchy! It can be something as small as the red floral print on the kimono, or the red on the rainbow knit. Or a bit bigger and bolder with the red bag or a red scarf. Matchy-matchy is always a fun outfit idea and one I wear often!

The Magnificent 8: Hello Yellow!

For something different, sharing a Wednesday post again. I am not yet returning to the 3 posts a week I did before Coronavirus hit, this is a special post as I've joined the Magnificent Eight! The theme today is "Hello Yellow", one I had a lot of fun with as I have quite a few yellow pieces in my wardrobe now!

So I'm sharing two outfits, one I wore on the weekend and the other during the week for the school run. Because even though it's a blog collaboration it wouldn't be my blog if I wasn't showing you what I actually wore, would it! Scroll down to see them and find out more about the Magnificent 8 ladies!

What I wore:

Tank: thrifted Target mixed print colourful printed tank
JeansNobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (c/o)
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight

Why I wore it:

I had this cardigan in mind for the Hello Yellow theme and was wondering what top to wear with it, as it was so warm I decided on a tank. This tank was also thrifted, just like the cardi, and the yellow in the mixed print works so well with the mustard cardigan! It was an extremely warm day so a scarf wasn't needed, I even rolled up the sleeves of my cardigan for a bit!

Kept the rest of my outfit neutral with the Converse and my black Nobody Denim skinny jeans, and the navy Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag

Simple but colourful for a warm winter day in the playground. Even though we hadn't had any COVID cases in our state for 8 days at the time I was still a little unsure about taking the kids to a playground for the first time since Iso! I seemed to be the only one worried, the playground was so busy! The kids had a blast playing there even though they had to wait their turn a few times. We used to visit playgrounds regularly before everything happened, so it was nice to get back to it, and easier on my injured knee than the exploring around local trails and empty parks that we have been doing instead the past few months.

What I wore:

Tee: Jeanswest essential v-neck tee in elfin yellow
Jeans: thrifted ASOS petite green skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
BagRebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight

Why I wore it:

This outfit was pulled together from other outfits I've worn before! It's not the first time I've worn the scarf and cardigan together, and I really liked this yellow tee last time I wore it with olive green jeans so I wanted to try it with these green jeans as well. I added the navy Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag as it matches so nicely with the navy scarf and cardigan, and again was a nice neutral with the bright top and jeans.

Was a quiet day - doing the school run and taking the little one out to hunt for more books at the opshops. With it being No Buy July I wasn't going to browse for clothes but thought we could go have a look for some books. The kids always like picking up a book or two whenever we stop at an opshop. And with getting back into reading over Iso after my neighbour started up a virtual book club, I wanted to have a browse of the books for myself as well! Was a fun way to spend a small part of the morning after school drop off.

How You Can Wear It:

Yellow is such a cheerful colour to wear - and it pairs well with other brights too! Try it with green, blue, navy, or keep it simple and stick with neutral black skinny jeans.

Striped Tees and Skull Scarves With Green Jeans

Two outfits with very similar formulas that look really different. Green skinny jeans, striped tees, skull scarves and cardigans for spending time outside with the boys.

What I wore:

navy stripe tee green skinny jeans cardigan skull scarf and nylon backpack walking trail outfit | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff Julian nylon backpack in bright blue | awayfromtheblue

bush trail walking outfit green skinny jens cardigan skull scarf nylon backpack baby bag | awayfromblue Instagram

Jacket: Paper Scissors grey wrap cardigan
ScarfAlexander McQueen azure wool skull scarf
Tee: Jeanswest striped split hem tee
Jeans: thrifted ASOS petite green skinny jeans
ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Julian nylon backpack in bright blue

Why I wore it:

Making the most of the nice weather during the school holidays, and also partly because hubby was still working from home and needed some quiet, I took the kids out to our fave walking trail. Picked because it's a really short and easy walk through the bush with beautiful views. It's under a kilometre too so I knew my injured knee could cope it it. Still wore my daggy but supportive running shoes anyway and I'm glad I did as we went off the trail a lot! We were out for hours finding "new" paths through the bush as the kids explored and I let them pick where we went. (Just a note that I know the track well, I always knew where we were and there are enough pointers around the landscape that a short walk in any direction would reorient you if you did get lost. A lot of the different paths we took were the old trail or accessing the trail from other directions so weren't just rushing off blindly. Be careful not to deviate from the trail unless you can do so safely.) My knee certainly started complaining that evening from all the extra walking!

I added the blue and teal skull scarf for a touch of colour with the navy stripe tee and the green skinny jeans. The scarf did come off quite quickly though as the day warmed up, I even considered taking the cardigan off a few times too. Keeping to the practical outfit I didn't take a bag of my own and just put my things and our water bottles and snacks in the Rebecca Minkoff Julian backpack I use as a baby bag. Was a really fun morning out!

What I wore:

neutral playdate outfit olive skinny jeans stripe tee skull scarf navy cardigan grey bag | away from blue

Rebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey worn in crook of arm | away from the blue

Jacket: Jeanswest waterfall drape cardigan in navy night sky marle
ScarfAlexander McQueen modal and cashmere skull scarf
TeeAtmos&Here navy stripe v-neck tee
Jeans: Jeanswest Vicki skinny pant in moss green
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey (get it second hand)

Why I wore it:

This was another fun day outside! After a quick stop at the Saturday sale at the opshop we headed out to a local park with the boys, until they got hungry for lunch. I used my Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB instead of the baby bag as hubby was with us and could carry a backpack.

After the morning at the park, we spent the afternoon at yet another park for a playdate. Which didn't quite go according to plan...but luckily there was an entrepreneurial lady selling ice cream and taking advantage of the weekend crowds so we grabbed some ice cream and sat down on the beach enjoying the last of the sun's rays. As the kids got muddier and muddier running into the water 😂 Baths, a movie and an early dinner made it the perfect end to a hectic day.

I like this navy cardigan with the olive skinny jeans, especially as it matches the navy stripe tee.  I felt the outfit needed another layer as it was quite a windy day, this neutral taupe Alexander McQueen skull scarf was the perfect finishing touch. My knee was really sore by the end of the day though, Converse not as supportive for all the running around!

How You Can Wear It:

A skull scarf is a fun print mix with a stripe tee and jeans combo. You can go brighter like the first outfit with the blue and bold green skinny jeans, or stick with neutrals like the taupe, olive and navy second outfit.
