Adding Colour to Black Skinny Jeans Outfits With Bright Cardigans and Skull Scarves

Adding some colour to monochrome grey tees and black skinny jeans outfits with bright cardigans and Alexander McQueen skull scarves. As sometimes happens when I try to recreate an outfit formula that worked once, this had mixed results! One outfit I loved, one I felt a little unsure about.

What I wore:

monochromatic grey tee black skinny jeans outfit with bright accessories red cardigan blue teal skull scarf RM love bag | away from blue

red cardigan with Rebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey | away from the blue

Jacket: Jeanswest waterfall drape cardigan in scarlett marle
ScarfAlexander McQueen azure wool skull scarf
TeeAtmos&Here charcoal grey v neck tee
JeansNobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (c/o)
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bag:  Rebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey

Why I wore it:

This outfit I loved! I really like these black Nobody Denim skinny jeans, they go with everything and are so comfortable to wear. They look good with Converse and I like the monochromatic look with the dark grey tee but I knew this outfit would need a little extra colour and a few extra layers for warmth on the cold winter morning school run.

This red waterfall cardigan is both cosy and colourful, and really pops with the grey and black. I wanted to add even more colour and this teal and azure skull scarf was the perfect accessory. Being a thicker wool blend made it an extra good choice as it was a very chilly morning!

With the colourful layers I thought a neutral bag would be best so I wore my little grey Rebecca Minkoff love bag. It was overdue a wear!

What I wore:

Sass & Bide Playman skinny jeans with converse pink adn yellow winter layers cardigan skull scarf and rebecca minkoff love bag | awayfromblue

mustard cardigan with Rebecca Minkoff quilted Love cross body bag in grey | away from blue

Jacket: thrifted SES Fashions mustard yellow cardigan
ScarfAlexander McQueen pink pashmina in skull and floral print
Tee: thrifted Cotton on grey tunic tee
JeansSass & Bide Playman skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bag:  Rebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey

Why I wore it:

Again with the black jeans, Converse and grey tee and bright layers. Although I didn't like this implementation of the outfit formula as much as the one above. I do love this mustard yellow cardigan worn with the yellow and pink skull scarf, it's a combination I've worn before. And while I loved the grey tee, chevron print skinny jeans and mustard cardigan together I felt I needed to add a little extra layer to keep warm when I ran a quick errand during my lunch break.

I just feel that these jeans work better when they are the only statement in the outfit though, especially after looking at the pics. I liked all the pieces but I preferred the outfit before I added the scarf! Need to try wear these jeans more when it's warmer so I have to layer less.

Despite being a bit unimpressed when I looked at the photos I did like this outfit, it was comfortable and easy for working from home, a zoom meeting and running a quick errand at lunch time.
Black jeans and a grey tee is an easy monochrome outfit base you can add more colourful layers to in winter. You can pick a contrasting scarf and cardigan for a big burst of colour against the neutrals.

  7. I really like both of these outfits. The first outfit with the blue scarf is so lovely. I like the red cardigan you wore with the grey sweater and black jeans. The grey RB mini bag is very chic as well. As for the second outfit, I think the scarf looks lovely with it because it has yellow in it that matches the cardigan but if you think the outfit looks better without the scarf, go for it and wear it that way. Those zig zag jeans are very cute.

  16. Ah yes both looks are great for running errands or school runs. Love the idea of head to toe black and or gray and then adding pops of color with cardigans and scarves. I have not owned a pair of Converse in quite a while and I have the same bag in a lilac color!

  30. Love these looks, this is basically the structure of my wardrobe. I like to keep my basics monochrome and add in little pops of colour. I love the bag in grey too, I like that it's still neutral but a little different to classic black x
