Thrifted Orange Skirts and Kisschasy Band Tees

Easy outfits for warmer Spring days a few weeks ago. Featuring two very similarly coloured orange maxi skirts that are both lucky opshop finds! Wearing them with sneakers and some old Kisschasy band tees.

What I wore:

kisschasy casette tape band tee blue with mini MAC bag and ochre maxi skirt sneakers | awayfromblue

orange ochre maxi skirt with blue Rebecca Minkoff 2012 sky grey mini MAC bag | awayfromtheblue

Tee: Kisschasy blue tape band tee
Skirtthrifted Tree of Life ochre maxi skirt
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff 2012 sky grey mini MAC bag

Why I wore it:

This was a causal outfit for a fun playdate at the park. Took my youngest along so he could meet some of his future classmates, as he starts school next year! Time is flying by. It was really nice that there were some other Kindy mums and a few of his Kindy friends there, hopefully they will all be in the same class at school for Prep. Wanted to be comfortable so I went with this long ochre maxi skirt. The kind of piece that was perfect for chatting with the other parents while also running around in the playground at times with my son.

Because I love orange and blue together, decided to give this old Kisschasy band tee another wear. It made me feel a little old though, when my son pointed out that what is rather obvious to me cassette tape wheels looked like car tires. 😂 Just obsolete technology! Unfortunately his interest in the tee and a little bit of shyness at all the new friends meant I ended up covered in strawberry stains and ended up having to get changed before our BBQ that evening.

Couldn't resist going a little matchy-matchy with the blue Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag with this too, and I was pleased I'd picked the Adidas Superstar sneakers to wear as they were really comfortable.

What I wore:

Kisschasy bones and skin tour tee with thrifted rust ruffle mini skirt converse burgundy avery crossbody bag converse | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff Avery crossbody bag in burgundy with rust ruffle mini skirt | awayfromtheblue

Tee: band tee from KissChasy "Bones and skin" tour
Skirt: thrifted no label rust ruffle tiered skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff Avery crossbody bag in burgundy

Why I wore it:

How cute is this skirt? It was just $1 at the opshop so I couldn't say no, even though it's such a similar colour to the maxi skirt above. Such a good thrift find. Paired with a little crossbody bag, Converse and another Kisschasy band tee, it did feel a little like an outfit teenage me would have worn. But I loved it! The ruffles on this skirt made me happy for a quiet day with the school run, a couple errands, and a trip to the library.

This Kisschasy band tee was from their 2008 Bones and Skin tour, when my sister got injured during the gig and we ended up watching the rest from the TVs at the side of the bar getting basic first aid and then spending the night at hospital. Definitely an eventful show! I'd bought the tee before the show started and was wearing it in the hospital where the doctor already figured out where we had been from my tee as she loved the song too! It definitely fits a little tighter now 13 years later than it did pre-babies and in my teen years so I'm not sure I'll wear this again. It's gone back into my big box of various band tees (I used to buy one from every gig) as a memento instead, as that was definitely a night to remember!

The skirt is definitely staying in my regular wardrobe rotation though - adorable with Converse and I like the burnt orange with the burgundy Rebecca Minkoff Avery crossbody bag.

Last worn: Kisschasy Bones and Skin band tee, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff Avery crossbody. First time I've worn the rust ruffle skirt as it was a recent opshop find.

Other ways to wearKisschasy Bones and Skin band tee and gold jeans, Converse and pencil skirt, Rebecca Minkoff Avery crossbody and little black dress.

Perfect for pregnancyConverse in second trimester.

How You Can Wear It:

Band tees are a wardrobe essential for many - they look great with jeans, but it's easy to mix it up a little and try them with a skirt instead - maxi or mini.

What I Bought In September (And How I've Worn It)

Sharing two things I bought in September - lucky opshop finds! No video this time, just some photos, as it was only two thrifted things.

What I Bought:

I couldn't resist picking these up at the opshop sale! We wandered in just for a little browse, with nothing in particular in mind to buy (although I was, as always, hoping to find a couple books for the kids and I). Nothing really appealed but I did see this cute little skirt hanging off the end of the rack when we passed the women's clothing section and for $1 I had to have it! I remember skirts like these being popular quite a while ago back in my uni days. Luckily, this one has a fully elasticated waist so I can wear on my hips and it doesn't feel too short. Not like the high waisted mini skirts I remember wearing when I was younger in the pre-blog days! Still just as fun to wear, just a little longer and so more practical for running around with the kids.

The necklace was another piece I just stumbled across - they have accessories right next to the registers and this designer inspired clover necklace from Mix Apparel was just $2, new with tags. I've gone to look up the website though and I can't see Mix Apparel any more or find out what happened to it (my local Coles store never sold it). For my non-Aussie followers it was a fashion brand you could buy in a supermarket here, not sure if you still can. For just $2 though it's a cute necklace!

How I've Worn It:

I really wasn't expecting to hit my "wear everything twice in the month I buy it" goal with this little ruffle skirt. But some summer like spring days after I bought this skirt gave me the opportunity to wear it almost right away! The necklace was an easy piece to hit that two wears in the month goal with too, I think it pairs nicely against plain block colour clothing pieces.

How I'm Tracking:

I was hoping as September was the last month of the Slow Fashion Season #FashionDetox to buy nothing, but didn't succeed. Although second hand shopping is allowed under the challenge I would have liked to finish with a no buy month! But couldn't pass up these two impulse buys. Not a bad track record for the 3 month challenge though, with nothing bought in July, a second hand bag in September and now these 2 thrift finds. Only 3 things total and all allowed under the rules.

With my spend for 2020 being pretty low and a lot of impulse buys (and bags!) this year, I'm surprisingly still under my 2020 spending limit at the end of September. Really hoping I can stick to that though as I'm getting close to matching what I spent last year already. I only spent $483.59 on fashion in 2020 though so I have a pretty tight budget to spend less than that this year!

Kimonos, Camis and Denim With Love Too Bag: Weekday Wear Link Up

Making the most of the super warm spring weather that felt more like summer that Brisbane enjoyed back in September with camis, kimonos, and denim.

What I wore:

mint cami, denim skirt, tie dye kimono and sneakers, teal rebecca minkoff love too bag | awayfromblue

tie dye kimono and Rebecca Minkoff Love Too in deep teal croc embossed leather | awayfromtheblue

Jacket: Jeanswest Kensley summer tie-dye kimono
Necklace: Lovisa silver love knitted heart pendant necklace
Top: H&M mint v-neck cami
Skirt: JayJays distressed denim mini skirt from my sister's wardrobe
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff Love Too in deep teal croc embossed leather

Why I wore it:

I absolutely loved this outfit. I feel it looks a little off on the pics because I didn't tuck the cami into the skirt, and I probably should have tucked it in, but wearing this I liked the long loose lines of the untucked top and the tie dye kimono. I thought the navy tie dye looked so good with the mint cami too, and the colours of the deep teal Rebecca Minkoff Love Too bag complimented the outfit so nicely.

I would have liked different shoes with this but stuck with comfortable sneakers for a very busy day with lots of running around. Had my second dose of Pfiiizer which I was pretty excited about, given us 30 year olds were only eligible to get the vaccine in August in Australia. It's good to be as protected as I can be now. God bless science!

After my vaccine appointment, my youngest son and I had a party in the park to attend while hubby took my eldest to a bowling birthday party. Thankfully I didn't experience as much arm pain this time with the second dose as I did with the first dose, but by the end of the night I was exhausted and went to bed early. Had a pretty rough night with fever and nausea, and wasn't feeling the best the next day, but after that day of feeling horrible the side effects passed which was awesome.

Last worn: earringstie dye kimono, knot necklace, mint cami, New Balance sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff Love Too bag. First time I've worn the denim skirt as it was from my sister's wardrobe clear out earlier in the year when it was too cold to wear it.

Other ways to weartie dye kimono and yellow, mint cami and printed jeans, Rebecca Minkoff Love Too bag and maxi dress.

Rebecca Minkoff Love Too Bag Unboxing:

What I wore:

orange cami printed kimono black denim shorts sneakers love too bag spring playdate outfit | awayfromtheblue

Rebecca Minkoff Love Too in deep teal croc embossed leather with digital print kimono | awayfromblue

Jacket: thrifted digital print no label kimono
NecklaceHouse of Harlow 5 station necklace in black and silver

Shorts: Jeanswest Sara distressed hot short
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff Love Too in deep teal croc embossed leather

Why I wore it:

I was glad I'd pre-planned this outfit in advance as I was pretty tired this morning but we again had a big day planned - after the school drop off for my eldest, my little one had his sports class, we had lunch and a playdate, and then sports again for both boys after school pick up in the evening.

Realised while outfit planning in my wardrobe I hadn't worn this cami in quite some time and with a 30 degree day something light like this was the perfect outfit. While there isn't any orange in the pint of this kimono - just mustard and red - I loved the way the two pieces looked together. The bright orange helped me feel I looked a lot better than I felt too! And with all the black in the print the black shorts seemed like the best choice, especially for running around with my son at the playdate.

Again I wore the Rebecca Minkoff deep teal Love Too bag - I thought it complimented the colours of this outfit too and it really pops with the orange cami! Just like it did last time I wore it with orange.

Last worn: Aztec print kimono, orange cami, necklace, black denim shorts, New Balance sneakers, Love Too bag (above).

Other ways to wearAztec print kimono with purple, orange cami and printed jeans, black denim shorts and stripe tee, Love Too bag and pencil skirt.

How You Can Wear It:

A printed kimono is a fun topper with a plain block colour camisole top. Add in denim shorts or skirt and you have a staple spring outfit.

30 Ways To Wear: Cobalt Blue Moto Leather Jacket

It feels a little strange to be putting together a post of 30 ways I've worn a leather jacket when it's spring here in Brisbane. But I realised when I wore this beautiful blue moto jacket over winter that it had passed 30 wears, and it's definitely overdue a post! It's always fun searching back in my blog archives and stumbling across pieces I've worn more than 30 times without realising, like this jacket. It's one of the benefits of using my blog as an outfit diary - years of photos of what I've worn out each day to make putting these posts together so easy.

30 Ways To Wear: Cobalt Leather Moto Jacket

30 ways to wear Wittner cobalt leather moto jacket for winter | away from the blue blog #30wearschallenge

I first saw this leather jacket in a magazine I'm sure - as much as I loved Wittner shoes for leather shoes for work I wasn't a regular visitor of their website. But once I'd seen it, I could not get it out of my head. It was an online only piece so no chance of trying it on in store, and I spent weeks mulling it over before buying. Wittner is a shoe brand and only did jackets for a couple of years I think - hard to find out much info as it was so long ago I bought this. So glad I did buy it though, all the way back in 2013! I've seen it online called both Santa Fe which I label it on my blog, or Sante Fe as the email receipt says. Since it was so long ago I don't have any tags to confirm, but searching online for both names shows that at one point they made this jacket in black too. I do love the cobalt blue though!

Cost Per Wear

While winter in Brisbane doesn't last that long I like wearing my leather jackets on the super cold days. As a result this only gets worn a few times a year, so it's taken me quite a while to pass 30 wears with it! It's currently at 36 wears.

This jacket is one of my rare full price buys, and aside from my wedding dress, it's the most I've ever paid for an item of clothing.  It was a huge $299.95, and never went on sale so I'm glad I splurged on it full price! At 36 wears it's $8.33 a wear currently, which is a lot higher than the 'under $1 per wear' figure most people aim for to get "value for money". But with just 36 wears in 8 years, and so few really cold winter days in Brisbane, I expect it to last so much longer in my wardrobe. It is definitely an investment piece I never see myself giving up!

Because this is a 30 ways to wear post, I narrowed it down and as usual just chose 30 of my favourite ways I've worn this, from 2013 to now.

Cobalt Leather Jacket With Neutrals

5 neutral outfit ideas with cobalt blue leather jacket for winter awayfromblue

The easiest way to wear any item that's a big bold block of colour: wear it with neutrals! White, grey, black, all work so well with this jacket as it lets the jacket be the statement piece in your outfit.

Cobalt Leather Jacket With Purple

4 purple and cobalt outfit idea with leather jacket away from blue blog

I really like blue and purple together and these 4 outfits illustrate that any shades combine well! From a lilac tee to a deep sapphire bag, or even 3 shades of purple like that last outfit there with the different accessories, it's just such a good combination.

Cobalt Leather Jacket With Red

wearing a cobalt leather jacket with red 4 outfit ideas awayfromblue

This is another fun colour combination, that is a really bright one too. Red and blue are another power combo together, and against the cobalt jacket red really pops! Even something as small as a little red accessory like a bag or scarf looks fantastic with the bright blue.

Blue Leather Jacket With Yellow

3 ways to wear yellow and cobalt blue leather jacket colourful spring style awayfromblue blog

Like red and blue above, yellow is a fun combination but surprisingly one I haven't worn all that much with this jacket! I like wearing yellow as it's such a cheerful colour and I find it looks so good with the cobalt - from a bright mustard like the clutch bag in the middle there, to a pastel yellow like the tees.

Cobalt Leather Jacket With Pink

5 pink and blue outfit ideas with cobalt leather jacket awayfromtheblue

As much as I enjoy the other colour combinations with this jacket, saving the best for last here as blue and pink together always makes me smile! As with the previous colours I shared above, again I find any shade of pink (or even multiple shades of pink) are nice against the cobalt. From magenta to hot pink to pastel pink, it all just works so well.

Blue Moto Leather Jacket With Maxis

4 ways to wear a cobalt blue leather jacket with maxis dresses and skirts awayfromblue

Jeans and a leather jacket is a style staple and one I've worn quite a lot with this jacket, but it's good to try different things too and I find that maxi skirts and dresses are a nice pairing with the leather jacket. A leather jacket is a great topper with a maxi skirt or dress on a cooler day.

Cobalt Leather Jacket With Dresses

5 outfit ideas with cobalt moto leather jacket and dresses awayfromtheblue

While pink and blue is my favourite colour combination, a leather jacket and dress has to be my favourite outfit pairing. Much like the maxi dresses above, you can't go wrong with a cute little dress and a leather jacket. Add some tights and boots and a scarf if it's really cold too and you're snuggly and warm for winter.

Similar Blue Moto Jackets

Normally I'd include where you could get the look under $50 but, much like this cobalt jacket of mine, the available options I could find are definitely in the splurge category! Here are some similar pieces, most at lower prices than I paid for mine, but all unfortunately above the bargain $50 price point.

Dresses With Scarves, Denim Jacket And Micro Bedford Bag | Weekday Wear Link Up

Making the most of spring and wearing some pretty dresses with denim jackets, and my little Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag. Added scarves to deal with the (still a little cool) spring temperatures at the start of September in Brisbane.

What I wore:

denim jacket, navy star print scarf, kmart amber tiered midi dress, sneakers, micro bedford crossbody bag | awayfromtheblue

Scarf: Target Simone woven scarf in navy foil stars
Necklace: long silver giraffe necklace layered with engraved interlinked silver circle family name necklace
Dress: Kmart short sleeve tiered jersey midi dress in amber
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight

Why I wore it:

This was such a fun day! We took advantage of a pupil free day where we all also had the day off to take the kids out to Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo. It's been a few years since we were last there even though it's just over an hour away from us.

With it being a warmer day I dressed in layers to keep warm in the cooler morning, but so I could take them off and on through the day. The light navy star print scarf was just perfect, although it did cover up the carefully picked out necklaces I was wearing, including my silver giraffe necklace.

I wore that necklace on a previous trip to the zoo while pregnant with my now 7 year old, where we were lucky enough to feed a giraffe then. We did that again this time, and the kids got to have a go too. It was so much fun, big thank you to my mum and sister for getting us the tickets!

The little Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag was a nice colour with the denim jacket and navy scarf, and perfect for my essentials and camera. I wore my Rebecca Minkoff Julian backpack too as it fit all the water bottles and snacks for us all, but the little crossbody bag kept my camera handy. I took hundreds of photos as usual! It's not every day you get to feed a giraffe though.

Why I wore it:

After the previous day at the zoo, this day needed to be much more relaxed! Stuck with a similar outfit formula again, although with this shorter grey skater dress, a white denim jacket instead, and this fun striped scarf. I really like pink and grey together.

It turned into a really warm day though, the denim jacket didn't stay on long!

We popped out to the opshop to check out one of their sales, where I picked up a really cute skirt for just $1! Then it was grabbing some last minute groceries, a trip to the library and a play in the playground before heading home for lunch. Ended up having to put the bandage on my knee to support it after all the walking around at the zoo the day before, but I could rest it in the afternoon when we stayed home.

How You Can Wear It:

Dresses and denim jackets are spring staples! A fun printed scarf is a great extra layer to wear in this season as it can easily be removed and put in your bag when it warms up later in the day.

Printed Jeans, White Tees And Cardigans

Another two outfits following similar outfit formulas. White tees, printed jeans and cardigans with Rebecca Minkoff bags. Just like in Monday's post though, again I loved one outfit more than the other despite it being the same basic pieces together.

What I wore:

mustard cardigan with sass bide black chevron print jeans white tee aquamarine mini MAC bag | awayfromtheblue

mustard cardigan with Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather | awayfromtheblue

Jacket: thrifted SES Fashions mustard yellow cardigan
Necklace: Happiness Boutique turquoise and coral pendant necklace (c/o)
TeeCotton On The One Deep V tee in marle nep white body black
JeansSass & Bide Playman skinny jeans
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather

Why I wore it:

I really liked this outfit! Yellow with these chevron print jeans really pops, so cheerful and colourful. The aqua Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag and turquoise necklace are an awesome extra touch of colour too. While this white tee does have a spotty texture all over I thought it might still work with the print of the jeans as it was neutral and a fairly subtle design and I'm glad I gave this a go, really liked this combination.

Wore this to work from home and take a late lunch to go cheer my child on for sports at school. The cardigan was too warm most of the day working from home but I appreciated it in the windy afternoon as I sat on the sidelines of the field for half an hour.

Last worn: mustard cardigan, turquoise stone necklace, white tee, chevron print skinny jeans, New Balance sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC bag.

Other ways to wearmustard cardigan and shorts, white tee and maxi skirt, chevron print skinny jeans with pink and purple, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC bag and magenta florals.

Perfect for pregnancyRebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC bag in third trimester.

Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC and MAB Tote Comparison:

Necklace: thrifted blue statement beaded necklace
TeeAtmos & Here white essential v-neck tee
Jeans: Portmans pink leopard print skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star coast blue
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote in plum

Why I wore it:

I liked this outfit and I felt good in it, but just didn't like it as much as the one above. I'd planned a different top to wear but went with another white tee as I realised that morning I hadn't yet ironed the one I wanted to wear. With two little boys, I can never keep up with laundry! And I was going to go for a purple cardigan as well but after a particularly cold start to the morning I needed something a bit thicker and warmer so went with this navy one. Still added a little purple to my outfit with this plum Rebecca Minkoff MAB tote though, purple is so good with the pink leopard print jeans. I've worn it with them before.

Comfortable for a busy day with with school run, sports for the little one while his brother was at school then sports for both boys in the evening after school pick up. I also carried the baby bag for everyone's water bottles and post sport snacks as the mini MAB tote really just fits the essentials.

Last worn: navy waterfall cardigan, blue statement necklace, plain white tee, pink leopard print jeans, blue Converse, Rebecca Minkoff plum mini MAB tote.

Other ways to wearnavy waterfall cardigan and pencil skirt, plain white tee over maxi dress, pink leopard print jeans with black, blue Converse and striped dress, Rebecca Minkoff plum mini MAB tote.

Perfect for pregnancypink leopard print jeans and hidden bump, Rebecca Minkoff plum mini MAB tote in third trimester.

How You Can Wear It:

White tees are a wardrobe classic and always look good with printed jeans. A cardigan can add a little extra warmth for a cold spring day and a lot of extra colour.

Floral Print Dresses with Rebecca Minkoff Love Bags | Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear Link Up, sharing some fun floral print dresses I tried a little something different with, with mixed results.

What I wore:

Kmart teal floral midi dress for night out with tan ankle boots peach rebecca minkoff small love bag | awayfromblue blog

Rebecca Minkoff chevron quilted small Love crossbody bag in pale coral with teal floral dress | awayfromtheblue

NecklaceTiffany diamonds by the yard necklace layered with engraved interlinked silver circle family name necklace
Dress: Kmart teal floral print midi dress
ShoesAtmos&Here tan Lola leather ankle boots
BagRebecca Minkoff chevron quilted small Love crossbody bag in pale coral

Why I wore it:

I wasn't sure how this little peachy Rebecca Minkoff small love bag would work with the Kmart teal floral midi dress, but thought it might be a fun combination. Turns out I love orange and green together, I think the little peach bag was the perfect pop against the teal and white floral print! So glad I gave this a go.

Only needed a tiny little bag as I wore this for a night out. It was really fun! A local mum setup a Facebook group where we can attend events with other local mums, and with no Covid cases around in Brisbane at the time I decided to go along to an event. It was a really good night. Good company, good food, and I even won a lucky door prize with a tee from a local company. Looking forward to attending another event next month too!

These tan ankle boots go with so much and I really like wearing them with this dress. Because they have the tiniest heel they weren't worn much over winter as I try to stick with supportive shoes for my knee injury, but on a night with a lot of sitting around they were perfect.

What I wore:

navy waterfall cardigan, tropical floral print green tee dress with chunky sneakers cobalt jumbo love bag | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff quilted jumbo Love bag in cobalt with navy cardigan | awayfromtheblue

floral tee dress with navy cardigan and cobalt rebecca minkoff jumbo love bag | awayfromblue Instagram

Jacket: Jeanswest waterfall drape cardigan in navy night sky marle
Necklace: Kmart silver long circle pendant necklace
DressAtmos & Here Willow printed tee dress
Shoes: Kmart white chunky platform sneakers
BagRebecca Minkoff quilted jumbo Love bag in cobalt

Why I wore it:

It's not the first time I've worn these white chunky sneakers with this cute green floral tee dress, I really like the combination! And I've worn cardigans with it in the past too, but it's the first time I've tried this long navy waterfall cardigan with the dress. Not entirely sure it worked, but it did keep me warmer than the denim jacket I'd planned to wear would have! It was a cold start to a busy morning so I changed to this cardigan before we left and while it wasn't needed when the day heated up I appreciated it in the morning. We had the school run, and appointment for the little one in the city, and sports class for him again before school pickup time.

I thought this cobalt Rebecca Minkoff jumbo Love bag would be nice with the green on the dress, and I liked it with the navy cardigan too. Nice and colourful for spring! I think either a different cardigan or less chunky sneakers would have made this outfit a little better though, although I did like the colours together!

How You Can Wear It:

A brightly coloured bag can be a fun pop of colour with a green floral print dress. Green and blue always work well together in any shades, and peach or orange is an unexpected but cute combination that really works.
