Bermuda Shorts And Kimonos With Balenciaga First Bag

Starting to share some outfits on the blog featuring some of the gorgeous new pieces I got for Christmas at last. With today's post I'm sharing a new silk kimono, as well as some new Bermuda shorts and a pretty silver necklace. Simple outfits for hot summer days.

What I wore:

JacketLocal Women's Handicrafts gold and burgundy silk kimono
Necklace: thrifted pearl and heart charm long necklace
Tee: Jeanswest Emma woven trim tee in terracotta
Shorts: thrifted Emerson white Bermuda shorts
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

This outfit came together so nicely! I wanted to try a bit of matchy-matchy with a red tee to compliment the burgundy in the mixed paisley print of the silk kimono I got from my mother in law. While I do have darker red and even burgundy tees, I thought this lighter red would work nicely, although it's a different shade, and I really liked the way this turned out! Added a pretty layered gold necklace to match the gold in the kimono print too. While I do have quite a kimono collection, this is the first silk one I've owned! It was nice for a humid day, running between activities with a post-surgery appointment for my son in the morning, a catch-up with a friend and belated exchange of Christmas presents in the afternoon, and then karate lessons after dinner. The Adidas superstar are so comfortable, and like the white Bermuda shorts are a lucky opshop find. Perfect for all the running around we did.

With all the matchy-matchy to the kimono I thought a bit of contrast would be fun too so I wore this pretty turquoise Balenciaga first bag.

What I wore:

Necklace: Kmart silver long circle pendant necklace
Tank: Jeanswest 'Josie' striped back strap tank
Shorts: Jeanswest Heather Bermuda short in black
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

These are officially called the "Heather Bermuda shorts" at Jeanswest but they look so cute (if a little shorter) with the hem rolled up so they are not quite Bermuda length on me! Perfect length for the day though. We headed out for a walk along our favourite trail in the morning, before it got too hot and humid. It did heat up so quickly though so we ended up spending over an hour in the library afterwards. I sat relaxing in the aircon and we picked out some new books for us all, while apparently almost an hour playing the computer in the kid's area "wasn't long enough" for my son 😂

I'm so glad we got to pick up a few new books at the library that day as a couple of days later they announced a 3 day lockdown for Brisbane. With the new books and still some not yet played with toys from Christmas we kept the boys busy at home until the lockdown was lifted at the end of the 3 days.

I've tried print mixing with this striped tank in the past, with mixed results. But I really liked this combination with the white and navy stripes and the bright yellow printed kimono. It was such a nice combination with the turquoise Balenciaga first bag too. I didn't want to over-accessorise with the heat and humidity so this silver circle necklace I got for Christmas was perfect, as were the studded sandals.

Last wornyellow poncho kimono, white striped tank, studded sandals, Balenciaga first bag (above). First time I've worn the necklace and the Bermuda shorts as they were recent gifts.

Other ways to wearyellow poncho kimono with olive shorts, white striped tank and maxi skirt, studded sandals and maxi dress, Balenciaga first bag with navy dress.

Perfect for pregnancywhite striped tank in second trimester, studded sandals in second trimester.

How You Can Wear It:

Casual Bermuda shorts are great mum-essentials in the summer heat! Long enough to not have to worry while running around with the kids or attending appointments, in classic black or white they will be wardrobe staples. It's so easy to change it up each time you wear them too by adding a fun printed kimono on top - a nice bit of physical sun coverage when you're outdoors too!

Subtle Red and Green Festive Summer Floral Duster Outfits

Hope you have a very merry Christmas tomorrow! Getting in one final post with more red and green outfits for you. I've had fun wearing this colour combo on a few days in December and this Christmas week has been a good time to share them.

What I wore:

Jeanswest Melanie floral kimono with black and white peplum tank bermuda shorts outfit subtle red and green festive style | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff emerald green mini 5-zip rocker bag with navy floral duster kimono | awayfromtheblue

awayfromtheblue Instagram | black and white peplum tee Bermuda shorts outfit with red printed floral kimono and green crossbody bag

Jacket: Jeanswest Melanie floral kimono
Necklace: Lovisa gold filigree heart pendant
Tank: Kmart black sleeveless frill hem peplum tank
Shorts: thrifted Emerson white Bermuda shorts
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs pearl, howlite and hematite beaded bracelets
BagRebecca Minkoff emerald green mini 5-zip rocker bag

Why I wore it:

When I thought about trying out some red and green outfits for December I wanted to ease into it as it's a very Christmassy combo and I wasn't sure I could pull it off! Picking a printed kimono full of a few different colours, one of which is red, and accessorising with a little green bag, seemed like a good way to try it out! I also wanted to wear my newly thrifted shoes for the first time. I've shared about them before, picking them up at the opshop for just $3. I spent a little time cleaning them up as they were very worn and yellowed, but I was pleased to have got them looking a bit more presentable and being able to take them out for a spin on this day.

While the red and green combination is really subtle here the kimono is quite colourful and statement making, so I picked a simple black and white outfit to wear underneath with the peplum tank and white Bermuda shorts. They were also a thrift find! While the rose gold heart isn't an exact match with the gold hardware on the Rebecca Minkoff mini 5 zip bag I thought it was a close enough combination to go nicely together.

Was a nice quiet day - a little opshopping in the morning after the school run, and then sports in the evening after school pick up.

(Hoping for another handbag shaped present under the tree this year... 😉)

What I wore:

Jeanswest Delilah Long Line Kimono in Green Floral with peplum tee denim shorts Adidas superstar and burgundy bag subtle festive outfit | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff Avery crossbody bag in burgundy with green floral duster | away from the blue

Jacket: Jeanswest Delilah Long Line Kimono in Green Floral
Necklace: Lovisa silver love knitted heart pendant necklace
Tee: thrifted black and white space dye peplum tee
Shorts: Jeanswest Trinity Bermuda denim shorts
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs labradorite bracelets
BagRebecca Minkoff Avery crossbody bag in burgundy

Why I wore it:

I'm not entirely sure this combination worked with the green duster kimono and the burgundy bag. I didn't want to go too bright with one of my more cherry red bags. I thought this burgundy Rebecca Minkoff Avery crossbody bag would be a more subtle pairing but it wasn't as Christmassy as I hoped. Worked out nicely for the day though! Had an extremely busy day at work as I tried to wrap things up as much as possible to allow myself the opportunity to leave a little earlier and take my son out after school pickup to celebrate completing the year of school. Unfortunately, we realised that my plan to go grab ice creams was a fairly common one and we had to wait in a massive line as it seemed quite a few different parents had the same idea! 😂 The ice creams were definitely worth it though!

How You Can Wear It:

Red and green is a very festive combination, but doesn't have to be too bold. Try introducing one of the colours as an accessory like a bag as I have in these outfits, for a nod to December without feeling overdressed.

However you are celebrating Christmas this year, I hope you get to experience God's peace, comfort and joy. Feeling extremely blessed with no COVID cases in the community here in Queensland for 100 days that allows us to have Christmas with our family as we always do, I know others are not as lucky. This scheduled post will go live as we are spending Christmas eve laughing together, watching a Christmas movie, eating delicious food, making and decorating cookies and trying some festive crafts. Have a wonderful Christmas even if it doesn't look like you had hoped.

Olive Tops With Neon Pink Mini MAC Bag And Shorts

Olive and pink is a really nice combination - especially when you pair this very fun neon pink mini MAC bag with an olive top. It's a great little pop of colour with an otherwise neutral outfit. And a simple pair of shorts and olive top was all that was needed for these two heatwave filled days.

What I wore:

Rebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC and matching Marc by Marc Jacobs enamel turnlock bracelet | awayfromblue

awayfromtheblue Instagram neon pink mini MAC bag with white bermuda denim shorts and olive tank

Top: Target embroidered khaki tank
Shorts: thrifted Emerson white Bermuda shorts
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus enamel coated Marc By Marc Jacobs Katie bracelet
BagRebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC

Why I wore it:

It was good to get these white shorts out for another wear, as I thrifted them near the end of summer last year and they didn't get a lot of wear then. This was a relaxed day with only one appointment to go to after the school run and we spent most of the day at home, so these comfortable shorts paired with a slouchy embroidered tank was a nice idea.

I've worn this neon pink mini MAC bag with the olive embroidered tank before, I really enjoyed the combination then and I liked it again this time too, although less layers were needed! I added the pink enamel bracelet for a little bit of matchy-matchy too!

Last worn: olive embroidered tank, neon pink enamel bracelet, white Bermuda shorts, studded sandals, Rebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC bag.

Perfect for pregnancystudded sandals in third trimester.

Adding Another Pink Handbag To My Collection!

In case you missed it, I bought this adorable little Rebecca Minkoff bag on sale last month, so now I've added another pink bag to my handbag collection!

What I wore:

black printed shorts and Rebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue Instagram | olive and black printed shorts summer outfit with neon pink rebecca minkoff mini MAC bag

NecklaceHouse of Harlow sunburst necklace in silver and grey
Tee: Jeanswest Emma woven trim tee in dark green
Shorts: Jeanswest Parker printed shirred short
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs labradorite bracelets
BagRebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC

Why I wore it:

This was a bit of a busy day so I needed another easy and comfortable outfit - shorts and a tee was perfect, and the Converse were great for all of the running around. Had the school run, some errands to run, an appointment, and a very special Christmas gift to track down. End of the night was a takeaway and movie night as I was a bit tired out from trying to do so much!

The olive tee and black printed shorts was a nice neutral combination but even with the bracelet stack (which matches the tee nicely) and the silver statement necklace I felt this was missing something. The hot pink bag was the perfect finishing touch!

How You Can Wear It:

Green and pink is an unexpected combination but one that really works! Olive pairs nicely with blush and pastel pinks, or you can really contrast the pieces by picking a neon pink item instead, like this lovely bag.

Big thank you to Ivana who illustrated some of my recent outfits in her latest blog post! Go check it out!

Purple Tees, Printed Kimonos, Denim Shorts And Rebecca Minkoff Julian Bag

Two simple but colourful outfits for hot spring days: denim shorts, Converse and printed kimonos with purple tees. Both of these tees are different shades from the colours in the kimonos, but I think they work well together! The bright blue Rebecca Minkoff Julian nylon backpack adds an extra burst of colour to each outfit too.

What I wore:

digital print kimono with distressed denim shorts lilac tee julian backpack | awayfromblue

lilac tee, Rebecca Minkoff Julian nylon backpack in bright blue | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue Instagram | denim shorts lilac tee printed kimono playground outfit with rebecca minkoff julian bag

Jacket: thrifted digital print no label kimono (new purchase)
Necklace: thrifted cream and navy statement flat bead necklace
Tee: Spectrum basic v-neck tee in washed lilac
Shorts: thrifted Jeanswest distressed denim shorts
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
BagRebecca Minkoff Julian nylon backpack in bright blue

Why I wore it:

Wore this on a particularly hot and humid day! We tried to head out early to explore a local bike trail - and with things getting a bit safer with less virus cases around in Queensland I let the kids enjoy the playground along the trail too. We haven't been visiting playgrounds as much as we used to, although they have been open for a long time here. People don't social distance and they can be a bit crowded so I prefer staying away - but the boys enjoyed visiting this old favourite playground again for something different, even if I was constantly getting out the hand sanitiser!

Didn't stay as long as I'd hoped as it was a really hot day, but the kids had fun for a little while.

I expected to spend more time in the playground and less walking along the trail, so I wore my Converse as I didn't need as much support for my knee. I'd thought of wearing this purple tee with the printed kimono when I spotted it in the opshop, even though the print on the kimono is magenta, I thought the purple tee went really nicely with it!

The Rebecca Minkoff Julian backpack is always a good choice on days out with the kids as it holds water bottles and snacks well.

What I wore:

Necklace: Kmart gold and navy beaded necklace
TeeAtmos&Here rolled sleeve oversized tee in wine
Shorts: Jeanswest Trinity Bermuda denim shorts
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
BagRebecca Minkoff Julian nylon backpack in bright blue

Why I wore it:

This tee is kind of between burgundy and purple - it's official colour name is wine but I thought it looked burgundy enough to pair with this red printed kimono, for something just a shade different. it ended up looking significantly different when worn side by side, but I liked the combination enough to give it a go!

Headed out with hubby to go check out bikes with the boys, something we want to buy as a Christmas present but the stock shortages around Australia make that tricky! It was a bit of an unsuccessful shopping trip, so to rescue the day we headed out in the afternoon after it cooled down a little for a walk around a local trail. I'd swapped my Converse I'd worn in the morning to my daggy but much more supportive sneakers, I really need them for this longer trail.

I'd been looking around for a good spot to take a pic when we came across the red flowers on this tree, the perfect location, as it matched the kimono so well! This was a really comfortable outfit for the weekend.

How You Can Wear It:

Shorts and tee is a staple outfit for a hot day - and you can add a little more interest to your outfit with a fun printed kimono. Even if the colours in the print don't match the tee you are wearing!

Two ways To Wear a Navy Tank (With Rebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford Bag)

For today's weekday wear post I'm sharing two ways I've recently worn this navy tank. A breastfeeding piece I got when pregnant with my eldest boy, it's such a staple it's never left my wardrobe even though my breastfeeding days are behind me!

I'm continuing to blog as much as possible while the world is so uncertain, it's part of my routine and after 8 years of blogging and outfit photo taking it would be weird to stop! However, not going out as often and working from home has meant more loungewear, so I have less outfits to share as I only share pics of what I actually wear out the house.

While I've dropped my Wednesday post I'll still endeavour to post Monday and Fridays. In fact you'll see this navy top again in my 30 ways to wear post this Friday, as it's hit 30 wears!

What I wore:

Tank: MEV Britney bubble tank in mood indigo (c/o)
Shorts: Jeanswest Trinity Bermuda denim shorts
ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight (new purchase)

Why I wore it:

Wore this to quickly pop out to do the school run and get groceries two weeks ago, which seems so long ago now. While social distancing wasn't as much of a thing then I thought this beautiful green floral duster kimono would help keep my personal space as it can billow out behind me when I walk quickly 😂 It also brought some extra colour to my outfit to cheer me up and boost my mood - grocery shopping has been a bit difficult lately with the shortages around and I needed something to make me smile.

The navy tank and the blue Bermuda denim shorts were another attempt to make me smile - blue is my favourite and go-to colour when I want to feel a little happier!

With the green kimono breaking up the blue a bit I thought this navy Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag would be a nice compliment to the blue tank and shorts. Normally I'd have more exciting things in mind for the first outings with a new bag, but I thought I'd take the opportunity to wear this bag while I still can! Even if it was just for the school run and grocery shopping.

Last worn: green duster kimono, coin and tassel necklacenavy breastfeeding tank, Bermuda denim shorts, New Balance sneakers. First time I've worn the bag as it is a recent purchase.

Other ways to weargreen duster kimono and jeans, navy breastfeeding tank and maxi skirt, Bermuda denim shorts and peplum tank.

Perfect for pregnancy: navy breastfeeding tank in third trimester

Unboxing My Latest Rebecca Minkoff Purchase:

No "what I bought this month" post up as with all the craziness in the world I only have this bag I bought to share, and a fun orange blazer I got preloved. I optimistically bid on it a few weeks before things changed in Australia, when I was still going into work and it eventually arrived on my second week of who knows how many weeks working from home. I'm hopeful it will make an appearance on the blog soon...but it is really an office piece!

What I wore:

Tank: MEV Britney bubble tank in mood indigo (c/o)
Skirt: Ally Fashion blue border print floral maxi skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight

Why I wore it:

Unlike the outfit above, I kept this completely monochromatic with navy and blue. I really like the navy Micro Bedford bag with the blue floral skirt, it was such a nice combination. The silver necklace is an older favourite and was a bit of matchy-matchy with the silver hardware on the micro Bedford bag, and silver ballet flats.

Another day of being mostly at home - I did pop out to the grocery store again after school drop off and helping in my son's classroom. It was the second time that week I'd been to the grocery store, hoping that there would be more in stock. Got a few more things from my list thankfully, but there were still a lot of bare shelves even with the newly implemented shopping limits.

Yes, we need shopping limits at all our grocery stores to stop people hoarding and panic buying! A couple in front of me had some of their shopping removed by the cashier because they hadn't stuck to the limits. Thankfully there was no angry outbursts or need for police intervention as I've seen around a lot lately. What a crazy world we live in!

Navy tanks Under $50:

How You Can Wear It

A navy tank is a great wardrobe basic! It's a great base outfit piece for pairing with a bold print - something contrasting in green like the kimono, or a little more monochromatic with a blue floral maxi skirt.

Accessorising Pink and White Shorts And Tee Outfits: Blue Kimonos and Pink Bags

Wearing some easy pink and white shorts and tee outfits with blue kimonos and pink bags. To make it look a little different each time I swapped around the tees and shorts, so it was a white tee and pink shorts one day and a pink tee and white shorts the next week!

What I wore:

Rebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony | awayfromtheblue

Necklace: blush pink and gold beaded tassel necklace
TeeAtmos & Here white essential v-neck tee
Shorts: thrifted pastel pink cotton shorts
ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony (more affordable preowned!)

Why I wore it:

Wore this back on the last day of summer to go shopping with my mum - she had some things to buy and there was a Leap Day Sale on at Myer so we went out to shop up a storm. Didn't find anything that I had to have for myself but did manage to pick up some Lego sets for the kids birthdays this year - at 30% off I stocked up!

I felt this white tee was overdue a wear and figured a day of shopping was probably an okay time to wear it - I try to pick days where there is less likelihood of me or the kids spilling something on myself! Unfortunately I did have soup for dinner, thankfully the soup stains washed out!

The blush necklace I have been wearing quite a bit lately - it pairs so nicely with the blush pink shorts! The peony pink Rebecca Minkoff small Darren bag was another bit of matchy-matchy. I wasn't sure if it would be too much with this outfit at first but with the blue printed kimono on top I think it separated the pinks nicely and it was a great accessory to wear.

Last worn: blue printed kimono, blush tassel necklace, white v-neck tee, blush pink shorts, New Balance sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag.

My Favourite Balenciaga Bag In My Handbag Collection:

TeeCotton On deep v tee in washed desert rose
Shorts: thrifted Emerson white Bermuda denim shorts
ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

Just like the outfit above, it's a pink and white shorts and tee outfit, but this time I wore white Bermuda denim shorts and a pink tee instead to swap the colours up. I thought this navy floral kimono worked really well with the pink tee, and I've not worn the two together before. I have worn the tee and shorts together before though!

I thought a pink bag would work well with this, just like the first outfit above, and I needed a bag big enough to carry mine and my son's water bottles in so I didn't have to carry the baby bag too. This sorbet pink Balenciaga city bag was perfect, even if it is a different shade from the pink on the tee and the pink in the floral print of the kimono, I thought it complimented it well.

Wore this for a busy way with the school drop off and pick up, a doctors appointment (just a repeat script one, nothing serious!), attempting to grocery shop during the toilet paper shortage which is surprisingly still continuing weeks later... and logging in to work for a can't miss meeting. Thankfully we managed to buy everything we needed despite some bare supermarket shelves, and sticking a few episodes of Bluey on kept the kids happy after school while I joined the afternoon meeting! Unfortunately the tassel on my necklace fell off in the morning, but I'm hoping I can repair it (it's not the first time it's broken sadly).

Last worn: navy floral kimono, navy and gold tassel necklace, raspberry pink tee, white Bermuda denim shorts, New Balance sneakers (above), Balenciaga sorbet city bag.

Floral Kimonos and Space Dye Tees With Denim Shorts and Rebecca Minkoff Edie Crossbody Bag

Two very similar outfits again, just like Monday's post. I was wearing my denim shorts, thrifted space dye tees and some floral kimonos with silver necklaces and my magenta Rebecca Minkoff Edie cross body bag. Easy outfits for the school run.

What I wore:

sheer floral supre kimono thrifted distressed denim shorts space dye tee rebecca minkoff edie bag | awayfromblue

Jacketthrifted Supre black sheer floral kimono

Tee: thrifted Mix Apparel black marle tee
Shortsthrifted Jeanswest distressed denim shorts
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta (get it preowned!)

Why I wore it:

This is such an affordable outfit - if you look at the clothing (although the Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag was on sale it was still over $200! 😂). The kimono I thrifted recently for $1, the black space dye tee was just 67 cents as I got it as part of a "fill a bag for $2" sale at the opshop, and the denim shorts were another opshop find and just $8.50. I've been trying to buy second hand more and this outfit is a great example of all of that.

The black space dye tee I thought would go nicely with the sheer floral kimono, I really liked the way this outfit turned out. Perfect for the school and daycare drop off on a hot day. The tee and shorts felt a little plain on their own, even with the long silver statement necklace, so the floral kimono added a little extra colour and print to my outfit, and the magenta Edie bag pairs with the pink florals so nicely.

Last worn: sheer floral kimono, silver circle necklace, black space dye tee, distressed denim shorts, black Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag.

Other ways to wearsheer floral kimono and pink shorts, black space dye tee in the office, distressed denim shorts and grey knit, Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag and sundress.

Tee: thrifted Kmart space dye cream and black longline top

Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta (get it preowned!)

Why I wore it:

This outfit follows the exact same formula as the outfit above, and yet I didn't like it as much. It was okay, I just liked the first one more. I thought this thrifted white space dye tee would go nicely with this navy floral kimono as it has a lot of white in the print, and the Bermuda denim shorts are a wardrobe staple that work well with the cocoon style of the kimono. Again, the Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag in magenta was so good with the floral print.

It was a cooler morning for the school run and daycare drop off, so I picked this warmer cotton kimono to wear. when I had my dentist appointment in the afternoon she complimented me on it and was surprised I was wearing it outside - it was much warmer in the afternoon! So helpful in the morning and for staying cosy in the aircon at the dentist, but definitely much too warm in the afternoon. Perhaps that's why I didn't like this outfit as much. Trying so hard to wear this kimono often to reach that 30 wears figure though!

Space Dye Tops Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A space dye tee is a fun twist on a classic plain tee. The print isn't so overwhelming that you can't wear it with other printed pieces in your outfit. Try florals! You can coordinate the floral print to match the colours on the tee too like I have with each outfit here.
