30 Ways To Wear: Mustard Cardigan

Although it's been quite a warm spring so far here in Brisbane, I finally hit 30 wears with this yellow cardigan over winter and I've been looking forward to sharing a wrap up post of all the ways I've worn it. Even if I have packed my knits away already waiting for cooler autumn weather next year!

30 Ways To Wear: Mustard Yellow Cardigan

30 ways to wear a mustard yellow long cardigan awayfromblue 30wears challenge

Mustard is definitely my favourite shade of yellow! It's so versatile, and this cardigan is a nice cosy way to add more colour to a layered outfit on a cold day. I'm surprised it's taken me so long to hit 30 wears with it actually, I feel I wear it a lot!

Cost Per Wear

I have very good cost per wear with this cardigan. I've worn it 30 times and it was an opshop buy back in 2017. I paid just $2 for it. Such a good bargain find, although sadly that opshop has sold down as the charity sold off the building. It's down to just 6 cents a wear so far.

However, even better than the 6 cents cost per wear is the fact that this cardigan is from SES Fashion, an Australian fast fashion chain. Not only was it worn by whoever donated it to the opshop, but I've worn and loved it 30 times and I'm sure to wear it many more times! it's decreasing the environmental impact the more times I wear and enjoy it, instead of buying new. You can make your wardrobe more sustainable even if you have cheap fast fashion brands, simply by buying less and rewearing more often.

In saying that, it is just a cheap fast fashion knit. It's a lot baggier than it was when I first bought it preloved 5 years ago, and some of the stitching on the cuff and a shoulder is starting to come undone. It certainly doesn't look new, but it's still got plenty life left in it, even if I might have to patch up some of the stitching at some point in future. Here are the 30 ways I've worn it so far:

Mustard Yellow Cardigan With Blue

30 ways to wear a mustard cardigan with blue in your outfit | awayfromblue

Blue and yellow is a colour combination I love - and any shade of blue works well with this mustard knit! Such a bright cheerful yellow, and something in my favourite colour (blue!) is a sure way to make me love an outfit.

Yellow Cardigan Worn With Neutrals

adding colour to 4 different monochrome outfits with mustard yellow cardigan | awayfromtheblue

If you're not sure how to wear a bright block colour cardigan like this, try neutrals! Black, white and grey are a failsafe outfit base for a bright knit like this.

Mustard Cardigan And Orange Outfits

3 fun outift ideas with orange and yellow mustard cardigan awayfromblue

This is a particularly bold combination! While I don't like all the orange and yellow outfits I've created with this cardigan, I do love those second too, with the orange in the print of the tank and dress. Something I want to wear more of, the citrus brights are great together.

Yellow Cardigan Worn With Grey

4 grey and yellow outfit ideas with mustard cardigan awayfromblue

Grey is easily my favourite neutral to wear with yellow. Mustard and grey are so good together, as you can see I've worn these grey skinny jeans with this cardigan a lot!

Wearing Green With Mustard Yellow Cardigan

5 green and yellow outfit ideas with mustard cardigan | awayfromblue

Green is something I've eased into wearing with this cardigan. I like the bright green jeans with it on a day I want to be especially bold, but for a less in-your-face outfit, you can try it with olive green, that works equally well.

Print Mixing With Block Colour Yellow Cardigan

4 print mixing outfits with a yellow cardigan | awayfromtheblue

Winter means scarves and knits, and with this being a solid block colour piece it lets me try a little print mixing with the rest of my outfits, from a striped tee or dress, even those chevron print jeans. I've worn the pink and yellow skull scarf with this cardigan a few times as I like the matchy-matchy of the yellow.

Dresses With Mustard Cardigan

3 outfit ideas for dresses with a mustard yellow cardigan | awayfromtheblue

It's not just jeans I wear my cardigans with! A long cardigan like this is a nice topper over a printed dress - and perfect with tights or leggings in winter to make your outfit warmer. Although I've only won it the once as you can see in that first outfit, a cardigan looks great belted over a dress.

Shorts and Cardigan Outfits

3 ways to wear a mustard yellow cardigan with shorts and tee | awayfromblue

When the weather is right it's good to bare some skin, and a cardigan over a shorts and tee outfit is ideal as you can easily take the cardigan off and stick it in your bag if the day warms up more than expected!

Printed tops, Cardigans and Grey Jeans With Chloe Marcie Bag | Weekday Wear Link Up

Sticking with a classic outfit formula and keeping the accessories the same, with my Chloe Marcie bag and Adidas Superstar sneakers, but these two outfits look a little different! Different printed tops and colours make these outfits feel unique when I just lazily copied the same outfit formula each day.

What I wore:

Chloe Marcie medium shoulder bag in nut worn with grey cardigan over the shoulder | awayfromtheblue

Jacket: Paper Scissors grey wrap cardigan
Necklace: thrifted gold large double circle necklace
Tank: Jeanswest Elissa leaf print tank
JeansNobody Denim Cult high rise skinny ankle jeans in charred grey
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual plus black and gold beaded bracelet stack
BagChloe Marcie medium shoulder bag in nut

Why I wore it:

This was actually a colder morning than I expected and I wished I'd picked a thicker cardigan with full length sleeves to wear. Thankfully it warmed up so much during the day though, in the afternoon I was even pushing the sleeves of the cardigan further up and considering taking it off. We had to get to school extra early in the morning, then I helped out in my son's class before working from home and doing the school pickup in the afternoon with a quick stop at the library on the way home.

I really like this fern print tank. The colours are so pretty together, and I felt it was overdue a wear! With the grey cardigan and charcoal grey skinny jeans I thought this tank would stand out a bit more, but I still really liked this outfit. The gold circle necklace and gold and black beaded bracelets were a bit of matchy-matchy with the gold hardware on the Chloe Marcie shoulder bag.

Last worn: grey cardigan, gold circle necklace, leaf print tank, grey skinny jeans, Adidas Superstar sneakers, Chloe Marcie bag.

Other ways to weargrey cardigan and printed jeans, leaf print tank and pencil skirt, grey skinny jeans and blazer, Adidas Superstar sneakers and dress, Chloe Marcie bag and florals.

Scarf: Fashion Scarf Girl navy diamond print scarf
TeeAtmos&Here navy stripe v-neck tee
Jeans: Jeanswest Cecile dove grey skinny jeans
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
BagChloe Marcie medium shoulder bag in nut

Why I wore it:

This was another cold morning, but I definitely didn't need all these layers in the afternoon! The scarf came off pretty quickly. Had my usual jeans and tee outfit for working from home - so comfortable for winter! But added a little more colour with the diamond print scarf and the mustard yellow cardigan.

I picked this mustard cardigan to wear not just because I love how it looks with the grey jeans, but also because it stands out, and I took a late lunch to surprise my son as he got an award at school. We are all so proud of him, he actually won two awards - one he was expecting and another one that was a surprise to him but we had known about for a while, so hubby and my mum came along too to share his excitement. So proud of him!

Last worn: mustard yellow cardigan, navy stripe tee, diamond print scarf, grey skinny jeans, Adidas Superstar sneakers (above), Chloe Marcie bag (above).

Other ways to wearmustard yellow cardigan and shorts, navy stripe tee and skirt, diamond print scarf and dress, grey skinny jeans worn 30 ways, Adidas Superstar sneakers and maxi skirt, Chloe Marcie bag and floral dress.

Perfect for pregnancynavy stripe tee in third trimester.

How You Can Wear It:

Cosy cardigans are nice layers with jeans in winter. If you go for a plain, block colour one like these grey and yellow ones, you can easily wear them with other prints without worrying about anything clashing.

Colourful Cardigans With Monochrome Jeans and Tee Outfits, Scarves and Mimco Button Bag

What I wore for celebrating the end of our 3 day lockdown in Brisbane at the start of July to enjoy what was left of the school holidays and get out with the kids. Kept my outfits simple and monochromatic with jeans and a tee. Even wore monochromatic scarves too, and a real wardrobe oldie with my black Mimco button bag. Added some colour with cardigans as I just can't seem to do a full neutral outfit without adding a bit of colour!

What I wore:

mustaard cardigan with mimco button bag floral scarf monochrome grey tee skinny jeans outfit | awayfromblue

mustard cardigan with black mimco button bag | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue Instagram | blue face mask with mustard cardigan monochrome grey tee black skinny jeans outfit mimco button bag

Earrings: Lovisa mini mustard tassel earrings
Jacket: thrifted SES Fashions mustard yellow cardigan
Scarf: Fashion Scarf Girl in black and white Pretty Floral print
Tee: Spectrum basic v-neck tee in grey marl
JeansNobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (c/o)
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
BagMimco black button bag

Why I wore it:

After a little uncertainty, we were so pleased when lockdown was lifted the evening before and my son was able to compete in his sports tournament as planned. Even if all the parents and spectators had to sit outside and peer into the sports hall from the doorway to make sure everyone met the post lockdown indoor space restrictions 😅

Despite having to sit far away it was so good to see him competing and my bright mustard cardigan ensured my son could spot me in the crowd. I wasn't expecting to have to sit outside so I was pleased this was just the right outfit for it. The cardigan wasn't too heavy when the sun came out, but it and my scarf kept me warm when the sun hid behind the clouds. And luckily no rain too! Turned out to be such a good morning, so pleased they were able to still run the event.

I liked using my big Mimco button bag again! The 25th anniversary of Mimco had me thinking about my button bag again - this is one of the original styles, I bought it in 2007 when I was at uni. Was so thrilled when I bought it, it was a craze for a few years and they were everywhere in Australia. Still see them around now and then, although mostly the newer, smaller version of this style. This one you wouldn't know is over 14 years old! It's in great condition, I should wear it more!

Last worn: mustard earringsmustard cardigan, grey v-neck tee, Nobody Denim skinny jeans, New Balance sneakers, Mimco black button bag. First time I've worn the scarf as it was a Christmas gift.

Other ways to wearmustard cardigan and shorts, grey v-neck tee worn 30 ways, Nobody Denim skinny jeans and kimono, Mimco black button bag and pencil skirt.

Perfect for pregnancygrey v-neck tee in second trimester.

What Fits Inside: Mimco Button Bag From 2007

What I wore:

Jacket: Jeanswest Peggie kimono cardigan in purple mulberry marle
Scarf: Fashion Scarf Girl black and white thick and thin mix print scarf
Top: thrifted Cotton on grey tunic tee
Jeans: Jeanswest Cecile dove grey skinny jeans
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
BagMimco black button bag

Why I wore it:

Very similar to the outfit above. Again, a monochromatic jeans and tee outfit with a black and white printed scarf and a colourful cardigan. This purple one isn't as bright as the mustard yellow one above, but it still adds the perfect amount of colour to this outfit. With the different shades of grey in the tee and the skinny jeans, the purple cardigan was the perfect topper. And with no other prints I could wear this fun contrasting striped scarf for a bit of an instant print mix without it clashing with anything.

Thankfully one of the workshops I'd booked in advance for the kids went ahead despite a lot of other school holiday activities I'd planned for the week being cancelled as soon as lockdown was announced, even though it was just for 3 days. Because it was still on after lockdown was lifted we had a pretty fun day. The kids got to make their own light up DIY aquariums in a jar which look really cute! These are kind of similar. We even managed a little play time in the playground before the rain arrived that afternoon which was perfect.

Again I wore my Mimco button bag - it seemed the obvious choice with the neutrals and it fits snacks and water bottles and the essentials nicely.

How You can Wear It:

Layering in winter gives you lots of fun options for accessorising. A colourful cardigan can add a burst of brightness to a monochrome jeans and tee outfit, and a printed scarf adds some extra interest and a little warmth.

Weekday Wear Linkup! Colourful Cardigans, Scarves and Skinny Jeans Outfits With Balenciaga Day Bag

Today's Weekday Wear Linkup has some outfits I layered up for the end of winter. Still trying to stay a little colourful with my cardigans and scarves.

What I wore:

mustard cardigan with navy and grey skinny jeans and converse outfit heart print scarf balenciaga bag | away from blue

mustard cardigan with Balenciaga giant hardware Day hobo bag in 2009 tempete | away from the blue

awayfromblue Instagram | mustard cardigan with navy tee heart print scarf grey skinny jeans and Balenciaga tempete day hobo bag

ScarfStella McCartney heart print scarf
Tee: Jeanswest Sophie navy v-neck tee
Jeans: Jeanswest Cecile dove grey skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagBalenciaga giant hardware Day bag in 2009 tempete

Why I wore it:

I love blue and yellow together, this mustard cardigan gets worn with blue a lot but it's the first time I've worn it with this navy tee. I added a little extra blue with the Stella McCartney heart print scarf that was a firm favourite this winter, just like last winter.

The neutral grey skinny jeans were an easy choice with the colourful pieces and the tempete Balenciaga day bag was a great mix of blue and grey to tie it all together. Didn't need such a big bag as it was a quiet day: the school run, a little opshopping and then sports in the evening after school pickup, but it just went with my outfit so well.

What I wore:

ScarfFashion Scarf Girl colourful print scarf in green
TeeAtmos&Here charcoal grey v neck tee
Jeans: Jeanswest Vicki skinny pant in moss green
ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
BagBalenciaga giant hardware Day bag in 2009 tempete

Why I wore it:

More muted colours, but still a little bit of mustard and navy! I felt this outfit was very similar to one I've worn before, wearing this dark grey tee with this green printed scarf, green skinny jeans, a cardigan and a blue bag. Slightly different colours this time around with the olive jeans and navy cardigan though.

While I did like the colours in this outfit, it was much too warm! The day was warmer than expected and while I did need the scarf and cardigan on our way home from our evening appointment it was a bit too warm for most of the day. Ended up taking the scarf off while working from home after the school run.

Had to wear these daggy shoes instead of my Converse, I've been trying out a few local trails with the kids and found a nice one but it was a bit uneven which hurt my knee, so I needed these comfortable shoes to support my knee as it was hurting a little from the trail a few days before.

How You Can Wear It:

Winter layers can be colourful! Stick with a neutral like navy and then add other brighter colours like yellow or green with a cardigan or scarf.

The Magnificent 8: Hello Yellow!

For something different, sharing a Wednesday post again. I am not yet returning to the 3 posts a week I did before Coronavirus hit, this is a special post as I've joined the Magnificent Eight! The theme today is "Hello Yellow", one I had a lot of fun with as I have quite a few yellow pieces in my wardrobe now!

So I'm sharing two outfits, one I wore on the weekend and the other during the week for the school run. Because even though it's a blog collaboration it wouldn't be my blog if I wasn't showing you what I actually wore, would it! Scroll down to see them and find out more about the Magnificent 8 ladies!

What I wore:

Tank: thrifted Target mixed print colourful printed tank
JeansNobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (c/o)
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight

Why I wore it:

I had this cardigan in mind for the Hello Yellow theme and was wondering what top to wear with it, as it was so warm I decided on a tank. This tank was also thrifted, just like the cardi, and the yellow in the mixed print works so well with the mustard cardigan! It was an extremely warm day so a scarf wasn't needed, I even rolled up the sleeves of my cardigan for a bit!

Kept the rest of my outfit neutral with the Converse and my black Nobody Denim skinny jeans, and the navy Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag

Simple but colourful for a warm winter day in the playground. Even though we hadn't had any COVID cases in our state for 8 days at the time I was still a little unsure about taking the kids to a playground for the first time since Iso! I seemed to be the only one worried, the playground was so busy! The kids had a blast playing there even though they had to wait their turn a few times. We used to visit playgrounds regularly before everything happened, so it was nice to get back to it, and easier on my injured knee than the exploring around local trails and empty parks that we have been doing instead the past few months.

What I wore:

Tee: Jeanswest essential v-neck tee in elfin yellow
Jeans: thrifted ASOS petite green skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
BagRebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight

Why I wore it:

This outfit was pulled together from other outfits I've worn before! It's not the first time I've worn the scarf and cardigan together, and I really liked this yellow tee last time I wore it with olive green jeans so I wanted to try it with these green jeans as well. I added the navy Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag as it matches so nicely with the navy scarf and cardigan, and again was a nice neutral with the bright top and jeans.

Was a quiet day - doing the school run and taking the little one out to hunt for more books at the opshops. With it being No Buy July I wasn't going to browse for clothes but thought we could go have a look for some books. The kids always like picking up a book or two whenever we stop at an opshop. And with getting back into reading over Iso after my neighbour started up a virtual book club, I wanted to have a browse of the books for myself as well! Was a fun way to spend a small part of the morning after school drop off.

How You Can Wear It:

Yellow is such a cheerful colour to wear - and it pairs well with other brights too! Try it with green, blue, navy, or keep it simple and stick with neutral black skinny jeans.

Weekday Wear Link Up: Printed Sheath Dresses and Colourful Cardigans

For this weeks Weekday Wear link up I'm wearing my favourite printed sheath dresses with some cosy cardigans to make some colourful corporate style outfits.

What I wore:

orange printed sheath dress with louis vuitton neverfull mm tote | awayfromtheblue

Necklace: Kmart gold and navy beaded necklace
DressFrench Connection 'Woodblock wonder' panache dress in white/geranium rose
ShoesAtmos&Here tan Lola leather ankle boots
BagLouis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull

Why I wore it:

It was such a warm day when I wore this - a little teaser of the upcoming summer heat before the Ekka winds set in the next day and cooled things in Brisbane right down back to winter temps! I went out during my lunch break at work to run a few errands and actually regretted the cardigan! My plan had been to belt it in place but I knew I'd probably have to take it off at some point with the summer temps, so left it unbelted so I could do so.

You've seen me wear yellow with this dress before - often in smaller doses like a yellow necklace or scarf. I thought I'd be a bit bolder this time and pair the orange printed sheath dress with the mustard yellow cardigan. I really liked this outfit, perfect for a busy day at work and a little time outside in the sunshine at lunch time. The ankle boots kept my bare legs cosy on the cooler morning, it quickly warmed up anyway.

With the summery citrus toned outfit, the Louis Vuitton neverfull bag seemed like the perfect choice!

Last worn: mustard cardigan, gold and navy beaded necklace, orange printed sheath dress, tan ankle boots, Louis Vuitton damier azur neverfull tote.

Other ways to wearmustard cardigan worn belted, orange printed sheath dress and blazer, tan ankle boots and maxi dress, Louis Vuitton damier azur neverfull tote and shorts.

ScarfMarc by Marc Jacobs mauve square scarf
DressFrench Connection blue Paisley print dress
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats
BagLouis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull

Why I wore it:

This outfit was worn on a more winter like day, so followed the same outfit formula as the first, but with a few more layers. I really like blue and purple together so I was surprised to see I hadn't worn this purple cardigan with the blue paisley print sheath dress before! It's such a great combination.

I needed to be just a little bit warmer though, so added my cosy fleece-lined tights, as well as my purple Marc Jacobs blanket scarf. This scarf is such a stunning piece, and even though it has a print it's subtle enough that it looks nice worn with the paisley dress. It's not an exact match to the cardigan, but I did like the two different purple shades together. The Louis Vuitton Neverfull adds more print to the outfit, but I see this bag as a neutral and will wear it with any print!

With all the colour and print, a classic black pair of ballet flats seemed like the best shoe option. Super comfortable too!

Last worn: purple cardigan, purple scarf, paisley print dress, black ballet flats, Louis Vuitton neverfull (above).

Other ways to wearpurple cardigan and purple jeans, purple scarf and chambray dress, paisley print dress and ankle boots, black ballet flats and wrap dress, Louis Vuitton neverfull worn 30 ways.

Perfect for pregnancypurple cardigan in second trimesterpaisley print dress in second trimester, black ballet flats in third trimester, Louis Vuitton neverfull at 38 weeks.

How You Can Wear It:

A fun and colourful printed sheath dress is a great option for your work wardrobe. You can play it safe and stick with neutral layers to accompany the bold print and let the dress make a statement on it's own, or you can get even more colourful by adding bright layers like scarves and cardigans that will compliment the colours in the print of your dress.
