Two Ways To Wear a Graphic Tee With Printed Pieces

With working from home, I'm wearing a lot of tees when I do get out of loungewear or pyjamas. Thankfully over the past few years of motherhood I've realised tees are a wardrobe staple for me and I have a few in my wardrobe!

Today I'm continuing the tee wearing and sharing two different ways I recently wore a couple of graphic tees, both with other printed pieces in my outfit.

What I wore:

navy graphic tee and red printed maxi skirt | stay at home style Away From Blue

Tee: Monsterthreads star print graphic tee
Skirtthrifted Billabong 'Don't Think Of It' bikini red printed maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas

Why I wore it:

This maxi skirt is a great work from home piece as it's so comfortable with the elastic waist! And all that fabric is like having your legs wrapped up in a blanket 😂

I wear this red maxi skirt with navy a lot, I really like the combination. This is the first time I've worn this graphic tee with it though, I wasn't sure if the print on the tee would be too much with the print on the skirt. Isolating at home was the perfect time to give this new combination a try, as aside from the postman and some neighbours, oh and my in laws, no one saw this outfit. I really liked it though and I'm happy I tried these two things together!

Last worn: navy graphic tee, red printed maxi skirt, Havaianas.

Other ways to wearnavy graphic tee and shorts, red printed maxi skirt and leather jacket.

What Bag I'd Wear With These Outfits:

If I was still using and enjoying my handbag collection and not worried about transferring germs inside the house whenever I swapped them out, this would be the bag I'd wear with these outfits - the metallic silver goes with everything!

What I wore:

floral kimono and primark Edinburgh graphic tee olive skinny jeans | away from the blue

JacketCotton On 'Gemma' cocoon kimono in Laos blossom navy print
Tee: Primark Edinburgh white graphic tee
Jeans: Jeanswest Vicki skinny pant in moss green
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas

Why I wore it:

This was another opportunity to try something new, with a graphic tee and floral print. I wore this when I was so close to 30 wears of this floral kimono, thought I'd try something a little different and wear it with this Edinburgh graphic tee I picked up on our Europe trip last year.  I thought the blue in the graphic would work nicely with the navy kimono. Plus it was a nice way to change it up a little as I've worn this tee and olive jeans together before.

Not 100% sure this worked, not one of my favourite outfits but it was fun to try. And with the olive jeans it was comfortable and warm for a quick trip to the post office after helping the kids complete their online learning at home. So good that the schools are back so I don't have to struggle with online learning for a 4 and 5 year old any more!

Last worn: navy floral kimono, Edinburgh graphic tee, olive skinny jeans, Havaianas (above).

How You Can Wear It

A graphic tee is something that looks good with skirts or jeans! To try mix it up a little you can pair a graphic tee with another printed piece in your outfit, like these outfits with the maxi skirt or kimono.

How Things Have changed (And What I've been Buying!) : Isolation and Working From Home With Kids

With the schools closed, working from home and parenting and teaching a 4 and 5 year old, things are a lot different now than they were at the start of the year! If you're coming to my blog just for an escape I apologise for how much this post discusses the impacts of the coronavirus! I am trying to keep it outfit focused and make this my regular break into fashion and frivolity, but the truth is the virus has impacted life so much.

I'm sharing two outfits I wore back when I was working from home while the schools were open, so I did the school run. It was a crazy week with a lot of unknowns in Australia about if and how school would continue, so I wanted to be comfortable and wear things to try cheer me up a little as I worked from home and counted down the hours until I could pick my boys up!

Also thought I'd share with you what I've been buying lately. Definitely no fashion spending - aside from the two things I mentioned in this post - but a lot of things to prepare for home isolation with kids. We are in a new world where I have to ensure my kids are learning at home every day as well as working from home myself 3 days a week. I'm blessed to still have my job, but the juggle is hard!

What I wore:

Tee: Life Church Online "Come change the world with me at Church Online" tee
Skirtthrifted Billabong 'Don't Think Of It' bikini red printed maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

For over 9 years now I've been volunteering at Life Church Online. We have a great group in Brisbane that meets up to stream the service together, and every Sunday night I hop online to help at another one of those services. With the news about churches needing to close, and understandably no more Brisbane catch ups, I wanted to wear my Church Online tee. Faith over fear I guess! And a reminder to myself that no matter what is happening in the world, some things like God's love and my regular Sunday online services, stay the same!

Wore my red maxi skirt with this as it was a bit of a cooler day and this felt more comfortable than jeans for working at home during the day. It, along with the turquoise Balenciaga first bag, were easy ways to add more colour to the black and white tee too.

Last worn: red maxi skirt, Balenciaga first bag, Havaianas. First time I've worn the church online tee on the blog.

Other ways to wearred maxi skirt and scarf, Balenciaga first bag and pencil skirt.

What I've Been Buying For Home Isolation:

I've been buying a lot lately. I'm an emotional shopper and while I'm not splurging on fashion items or stockpiling food, I'm thinking about what could be 6 months at home and how we will amuse and teach the kids in these times. We don't often do screen time, just a weekly family movie night and maybe a Daniel Tiger or Bluey episode once during the week, so I have been looking for things other than apps. As a bonus, most of the items I'm sharing are from local Aussie mum owned businesses, so your purchase helps their family as it entertains your own!

Little Birdie Books

Fun book boxes with activity and game ideas (and all the materials you need!) based on the books in the box. You can buy one off book boxes or subscribe to get a steady stream of books and activities. Started by two Aussie mums and speech pathologists, the books and activities are aimed at helping your kids develop essential skills. You can see what I got in a previous box in my YouTube review. I learnt about this company after friending one of the founders on Instagram.

Keeping Kids Busy

This company had been on my radar for a while - a local Aussie mum takes all the guesswork out of travel (or isolation!) by packing a bag filled with activities to keep any age kid entertained. Low mess but high fun bags. My boys got these as bumper "party bags" from my parents after we had to cancel my son's birthday party when the government social distancing restrictions came into place. The things in the bags are still being played with now, just today even. Found this company through a Facebook group, and you can get 15% off this weekend with code EASTER15!

Kids Craft Box

Another Aussie mum owned business, based in WA, who ships a box of crafting materials and activities across the nation, with different themed boxes available. She has special discounts on her Instagram page often, and has a sibling box option to reduce costs which is what I bought for the boys. I "met" this lovely lady through YouTube a couple of years ago.

Messy Play Kits

My kids have been going to these messy play sessions since they were tiny, and now you can order a box of messy play activities to entertain the kids at home! Janelle is a local Aussie mum who is diversifying her business and offering do it yourself packs instead of hosting the big parties she usually does. I'm so glad to have connected with her through playgroup, we have tried a few of her activities we've seen at the sessions at home too over the years!

Activity Books

From anywhere I can find them in stock! Think sticker books, Easter themes, puzzle books and educational workbooks or wipe-clean books. Kmart had a good range but I know stock is really low at the moment.

Printables

There are a few educational sites around with freebies at the moment due to the virus, where you just print the activity pages you think would be helpful for your kids. Some are even created by teachers, for teachers. You could also ask your child's teacher for some ideas if they haven't already provided some. Queensland Education department has a good list of sites too.

There are no affiliate links in these product suggestions and this post was not sponsored in any way. I'm just trying to be supportive and share a list that's useful for a parent if they find that like me, all my time is filled with working, playing with the kids, or worrying about what activities to do with the kids next. I've been visiting fashion blogs less as a result of trying to come up with a learn at home plan for the kids but I'm trying to continue my two posts a week goal here.

What I wore:

TeeLife Church Online "Go online reach the world" graphic tee
Skirt: Jeanswest Luxe jersey maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

A very similar outfit to the one above, another Church Online tee with a maxi skirt. I like the "go online, reach the world" message on this one as it's so true! And I'm so glad for the internet at a time like this, and technology to keep in touch with all my family despite the travel restrictions.

Stuck with the same bright Balenciaga first bag as I thought the grey tee and black maxi skirt needed a little extra colour, even with the yellow print on the tee. It was clear this would be my kids last day at school and kindy for a while, so that was bittersweet when I picked them up at the end of my work from home day.

Last worn: black drawstring maxi skirt, Havaianas (above), Balenciaga first bag (above).

Other ways to wearblack drawstring maxi skirt worn two ways, Balenciaga first bag and shorts.

How You can Wear It:

A graphic tee is a simple outfit choice with a maxi skirt - and so incredibly comfortable for working from home, while being presentable enough for any video calls!

It will be a very different Easter break but no matter what you are wearing: stay safe, wash your hands and stay home as much as you can as you watch your church Easter service online.

Maxi Skirts and V-Neck Tees With Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC Bag

I like to stick to my outfit formulas a lot, as you'll know if you follow my blog. A plain tee and a printed maxi skirt is one formula I wear often! It's such a simple outfit for a hot day, and sticking with a plain tee means you don't have to worry about prints clashing. You don't have to restrict yourself to neutrals either, I'm wearing two bright tees with equally colourful maxi skirts below.

What I wore:

cotton on raspberry tee with silver accessories and ally fashion floral boho border maxi skirt | awayfromblue

ally fashion blue border print floral maxi skirt with Rebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC | awayfromtheblue

awayfromtheblue Instagram | raspberry pink tee with ally fashion blue floral maxi skirt silver accessories mum style
Necklace: Tiffany & Co silver 5th Avenue notes heart pendant necklace
TeeCotton On deep v tee in washed desert rose
SkirtAlly Fashion blue border print floral maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC

Why I wore it:

Wearing a lot of new pieces here! It's so fun looking at my wardrobe after Christmas and seeing all the new combinations I can come up with! This raspberry pink tee, a gift from my mum, works so nicely with this blue floral maxi skirt, another gift from my mum! While there is pink in the print of the skirt, it's a slightly different shade. I still think they work so well together though.

I kept the accessories simple, sticking with plain silver, from the silver Tiffany necklace (a Christmas gift from the boys) to the silver bracelets I never take off and the metallic silver mini MAC bag. This bag goes with everything, such a staple for me.

Had a quiet morning at home with friends - we hosted Church Online at our place for a change. It's nice having the space to be able to do things like that in our new house!

Last worn: raspberry tee, blue floral maxi skirt, Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff silver mini MAC bag. It's the first time I've worn the necklace as it was a Christmas present.

Other ways to wearraspberry tee and denim shorts, blue floral maxi skirt and turquoise tank, Rebecca Minkoff silver mini MAC bag and floral dress.

Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC Bag Review

Why I wore it:

Another bright and colourful outfit! I got this idea from Sheila and a comment she left on a previous post where I wore this red printed maxi skirt with a white tee and mustard scarf, saying the skirt would look good with a mustard tee. There is yellow on the print of the skirt so it seems like a great pairing, but I wasn't sure about the boldness of the two pieces together. When I picked up this pale yellow tee in the Jeanswest sales after Christmas, I knew I wanted to try wearing it with this skirt!

Although the red and yellow felt bold enough I couldn't resist adding a little extra colour with this aquamarine mini MAC bag. It's a firm favourite as I like the way it works with yellow! Kept the rest of my accessories simple and neutral to let the outfit shine.

This was the perfect combination of colourful and comfortable for attending a playdate with the wonderful Sasha, our kids had such a fun time together and despite a few interruptions we got a great chat in. She's such a sweet lady and blogger and I'm so glad to have had the chance to catch up with her again! Funnily enough I wore this maxi skirt last time I met up with her too!

How You Can Wear It:

A plain tee and printed maxi skirt is such an easy outfit for mum life - whether hosting friends at home or running around after your kids at the playground! For something a little different you can try a brightly coloured tee to wear with the maxi skirt, picking a colour out from the print to find the perfect colour of tee.

Blue Tanks and Printed maxi Skirts With Rebecca Minkoff Love Bag

While these outfits have very different colours in them, they both follow the same outfit formula of a blue block colour tank paired with a printed maxi skirt. Both of these printed skirts are such light choices for a hot summer day. And it was hot when I wore these, the week before Christmas.

What I wore:

Skirt: Ally Fashion blue border print floral maxi skirt
ShoesRebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush
Bracelets: the usual plus vintage silver charm bracelet
BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey with Rebecca Minkoff Crystal Star Shoulder Guitar strap

Why I wore it:

When I saw this maxi skirt I knew I'd go the matchy-matchy route and wear it with my turquoise tank right away! I was out at the movies with my mum and sister when we had a walk around the shops and saw a sale on skirts and mum offered to buy us one each for Christmas. Was the perfect thing to wear a couple of days later when we went for our annual pre-Christmas shopping trip. We hit up the outlets on the coast and even though I didn't need to buy any more Christmas presents I picked up a couple extra things and we had a great time! Even if I do regret leaving a massively reduced bag behind and not buying it 😂

The studded sandals were an attempt to make my outfit more dressed up too, as I didn't expect to be doing any shopping for me....ended up unbuckling them many times, which was a bit of a pain as they have 3 buckles each. The sales assistant at Sass and Bide was quite concerned how much time I was taking trying on a single pair of jeans - we all laughed as I explained I'd gotten out of the jeans a long time ago I was just stuck buckling up my impractical shoes. Didn't get the jeans after all of that either! 😂

After shopping we went out for dinner so I decided to swap out the regular chain strap on the Rebecca Minkoff love bag for this blingy embellished bag strap. It's a fun combination and one I wear a lot.

Last worn: navy tassel earrings, turquoise tank, studded gladiator sandals, embellished bag strap, Rebecca Minkoff love bag. First time I've worn the maxi skirt and the necklace as they are recent gifts.

Skirtthrifted Billabong 'Don't Think Of It' bikini red printed maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas

Why I wore it:

Needed something simple for church before Christmas. We'd had a busy week before it so I went with this super comfortable red printed maxi skirt which is so nice on a hot day. I picked the navy tank as I felt like it had been a while since I last wore it. While it is a breastfeeding tank, I have kept it around in my wardrobe as I think the neutral navy goes with everything and it's a soft bamboo fabric, it's a dream to wear!

Stuck with the grey Rebecca Minkoff love bag I wore in the first outfit, but swapped to the regular chain strap that came with it to keep things simple. After church and grocery shopping it was a quiet afternoon and then watching a Christmas movie to ease us into the holidays!

A plain tank is an easy pairing with a printed maxi skirt. A basic block colour tank works well either matching or contrasting. You can pick a colour out of the print to wear on top and match like I have in the first outfit, or add a contrasting colour like I have in the second outfit.

Maxi Skirts and Tees With Scarves and Mustard Rebecca Minkoff Micro Regan Bag

Easy mum style for breezy spring days with v-neck tees and printed maxi skirts. Accessorised with some colourful scarves and my adorable mustard yellow Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag.

Tee: Big W mustard v-neck tee
Skirt: Target navy side split maxi skirt
Shoesslim gold Havaianas
BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold

Why I wore it:

I really like blue and yellow together so I knew I should wear this navy striped maxi skirt with the mustard tee. I couldn't resist going a little matchy-matchy with the accessories too, with my mustard Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag matching the tee and navy scarf matching the skirt. Even if the mustard bag isn't quite the same colour as the tee, it is such a fun combo and one I've worn before.

It was a warmer spring day but a bit breezy, especially right on the bay where we spent the morning at the playground, after quickly stopping off at opshop to drop off some stuff. Of course I ended up browsing after donating and picked up a few things for the boys too! I thought the mixed geometric print of the scarf was a fun print mix with the striped skirt, and loved the combination.

Of course the location is the best part though! I couldn't believe my luck stumbling across this beautiful jacaranda tree. Even if the wind made it tricky to get a good pic, and baby boy had a bit of fun running around in the background 😂 The jacaranda trees are so beautiful and worth documenting though - they blossom every spring in Brisbane and are so colourful!

Skirt: thrifted Billabong red printed maxi skirt

Why I wore it:

Again with the mustard! It is my favourite shade of yellow. The lovely boho print on this red maxi skirt has a little touch of yellow in it so the mustard bag was an obvious choice, and with the bold red and yellow together I thought a plain white tee was the best. It made it through a trip to the park with the kids and dogs, a haircut, and going out for lunch with my sister without getting a stain so I was pretty happy! I wasn't as lucky last time I wore it...

Again it was a windy start to the morning so I added a scarf, and thought this mustard one was such a bright pop with the red skirt. Just like the tee in the outfit above, it's a different shade from the bag but I thought it complimented it nicely.

Slouchy Tees, Printed Maxi Skirts and Statement Necklaces With Red Rebecca Minkoff Micro Avery Tote

I love a good slouchy tee and I love a maxi skirt – paired together it makes a comfortable and practical outfit for days with the kids. To dress up these outfits a little I wore statement necklaces with them, and my trusty little red Rebecca Minkoff micro avery bag.

What I wore:

Necklace: thrifted cream and navy statement flat bead necklace
TeeJeanswest Emma woven trim tee in terracotta
Skirt: thrifted SES Fashions vertical stripe maxi skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats
BagRebecca Minkoff red micro Avery cross body bag

Why I wore it:

A busy day when I wore this! I did a little opshopping in the morning to pick up a few more necklace options trying to find the perfect way to accessorise my dress for an event, and we had to stop by the library and grocery store.

The afternoon was more relaxed, a leisurely stroll / bike / scoot around our local park after a last minute rush to the bank to pickup a copy of a letter that never arrived . This comfortable outfit was just what I needed. I loved this statement necklace against the red slouchy tee, I’ve worn it with a red tee before and liked it then too. The vertical striped maxi skirt has pockets too which is so practical. And the gold mouse flats matched the gold hardware on the little Rebecca Minkoff micro avery bag nicely.

Last worn: red slouchy tee, statement necklace, vertical stripe maxi skirt, gold mouse flats, micro Avery bag.

Other ways to wearred slouchy tee and denim shorts, vertical stripe maxi skirt and denim jacket, gold mouse flats and pleated skirt, micro Avery bag and floral dress.

Skirt: thrifted Billabong red printed maxi skirt

Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs pearl, howlite and hematite beaded bracelets
Bag:  Rebecca Minkoff red micro Avery cross body bag

Why I wore it:

Not the first time I’ve worn this beautiful red thrifted maxi skirt with a blue tee! I like blue and red together so this skirt is worn with blue a lot, and the $3 thrifted skirt with the tee that works out to about 63 cents makes for a very affordable outfit! I got the tee in a bag of clothes in the “fill a bag for $5” sale which is why it works out so cheaply! I was dressing for comfort as we headed out to the airport early in the morning to pick someone up, and then lunch and shopping with my sister later.

I picked this silk beaded necklace to use as distraction for the boys while we waited at the airport – but thankfully we didn’t have to wait wrong. The extra pearl bracelets were another distraction tool – it’s so normal for my boys to play with my accessories when I pick them up for cuddles – part of the reason I rarely wear delicate or sharp statement necklaces on my SAHM days, preferring them for office days!

Slouchy Tees Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

There's a fashion "rule" that you shouldn't pair two voluminous pieces, like a slouchy oversized tee and a billowy maxi skirt together. But I say you should wear what makes you comfortable, and a maxi skirt and tee is such a comfy outfit! Perfect easy outfit for a mum too, no worrying about the skirt being too short as you run around with the kids!

3 Ways To Wear Band Tees: #sparklePunchMusicMonth

A bit of a bumper post today, sharing 3 outfits in one! The wonderful Jess decided to do #SparklePunchMusicMonth on Instagram in August and invited people to join in. I couldn't turn down the chance to get some of my band tees out and reminisce about my favourite concerts and memories!

I ended up wearing three different band tees through the month, which resulted in three different ways to wear band tees I wanted to show you. Because everyone loves a good graphic tee!

What I wore:

monochrome skinny jeans converse band tee outfit with sliver mini mac bag | awayfromblue

monochrome black outfit with Rebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue Instagram | monochrome black skinny jeans band tee outfit silver bag
JacketCotton On black knit wrap cardigan
Tee: Kisschasy The Final Roar band tee
JeansNobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (c/o)
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC

Why I wore it:

This band tee was one I bought at the final Kisschasy show before the band called it quits. It was a wonderful finale, even if I spent the time up the back away from the crowd as I was pregnant at the time!

A classic black and white tee with a fun print, this is a permanent fixture in my wardrobe, even if I don't wear it much. It was good to get it out again! I decided to copy the colour scheme from the tee in my outfit, sticking to black and white with the black belted cardigan, Nobody Denim skinny jeans and black and white Converse. The metallic mini MAC bag worked so nice with the monochrome.

Simple monochrome outfit for a quiet Monday with a library and playground visit.

Last worn: belted cardigan, band tee, skinny jeans, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff metallic mini MAC.

Other ways to wearbelted cardigan and flares, band tee and striped skirt, skinny jeans and blazer, Converse and skater dress, Rebecca Minkoff metallic mini MAC and shorts.

Tee: Kisschasy blue tape band tee
Skirt: thrifted Billabong red printed maxi skirt

Why I wore it:

Another Kisschasy band tee, but a much more colourful outfit this time! Wore this for a warmer winter day at the playground with the boys. This Kisschasy tee hasn't been worn on the blog before, it was one of the ones in my "band tee storage box" and from one of their earlier concerts that my sister and I went to. In fact I think this tee may have been my sisters at one point?

I loved wearing it though, and I thought the blue tape print (that spells out Kisschasy) worked well with the red maxi skirt. Again I stuck with converse, comfortable shoes for running around the playground. The denim jacket I actually took off while being in the sun, it was a really warm winter day, almost summer-like! Sideways Instagram outfit pic courtesy of my 5 year old who thought that it was so funny to take the photos on an angle and we all had a good giggle!

Again I wore a Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC, this time this adorable little aquamarine one that goes so well with the red skirt and blue tee and jacket.

Last worn: denim jacket, red maxi skirt, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC. It's the first time I've worn the Kisschasy band tee on the blog.

Other ways to weardenim jacket and maxi dress, red maxi skirt and leather jacket, Converse and printed dress, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC and skinny jeans.

Why I wore it:

Finally a band tee from a different band, haha! There's something so fun about the Kisschasy tees, and I went to a lot of their shows so I have quite a collection of them!

This yellow band tee is another one from the "band tee storage box" that I've added to my regular wardrobe now after this challenge. I love this tee so much. I actually got to meet Matt from The Getaway Plan while wearing it and I shared a bit of that embarrassingly flustered encounter on Instagram. One of my fave pics still though!

Yellow and purple isn't a colour combo I'd normally go for but it works so well with this print that I had to match the colour in the tee with the purple Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote bag. With the bold yellow tee and purple bag I kept the rest of my outfit simple and neutral with my grey maxi cardigan, skinny jeans and silver ballet flats.

Comfy, cosy and colourful outfit for a public holiday day off - we headed to Ikea for brunch and got a few more things for the house.

Graphic Tees Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

#sparklepunchMusicMonth challenge was a great reason to get my band tees out again, and it shows you how easy it is to wear a classic band tee - no matter the colours! Keeping things simple and wearing a graphic tee with jeans is an easy outfit option, and perfect for mum life. You can go simple and monochrome like the first outfit or be more colourful and bring out the colours in the print with your accessories like I have in the final outfit. You can also mix thing sup a little and pair a band tee with a maxi skirt like the second outfit.
