What I wore:
Jacket: no label white drape jacket
Necklace: House of Harlow gold multi-strand necklace
Dress: Kmart Tropicana sleeveless tiered maxi dress
Shoes: Marc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats
Bag: Amerii medium sling rattan bag in black (c/o)
Why I wore it:
Wore this a few weeks ago, in the first week of March, when hubby surprised me with a night out. Back when a night out was still possible and sensible in Australia! With the kids at their grandparents, we headed into the city for dinner and a movie like we used to do while dating. We had a decadent dessert for dinner at Max Brenner before watching a movie in an otherwise empty cinema. We've never had a whole cinema to ourselves before! There were of course other people around in the city, particularly at Southbank, but we kept remarking on how quiet it was. Of course now, a few weeks later, the then moderately full restaurants are now completely empty. How quickly the world changes.
As I had to pull an outfit together at short notice I went with a trusty maxi dress, and simple gold accessories with this gold necklace that was definitely over due a wear and my gold mouse flats. I added the waterfall jacket as it was a little breezy, especially when walking by the river. Being kid free I just needed my phone and wallet so this little straw bag was perfect.
Last worn: waterfall jacket, gold necklace, Kmart floral tiered maxi dress, gold mouse flats, Amerii circle bag.
Other ways to wear: waterfall jacket and shorts, Kmart floral tiered maxi dress in winter, gold mouse flats worn 30 ways, Amerii circle bag and skater dress.
Perfect for pregnancy: waterfall jacket in third trimester, gold mouse flats in second trimester.
What's In My Bag: Amerii Straw Round Crossbody Bag
What I wore:
Necklace: Eye Candy LA gold and turquoise cuff necklace
Dress: Kmart tropical notch neck floral maxi dress
Shoes: slim navy and pink Havaianas
Bag: Amerii medium sling rattan bag in black (c/o)
Why I wore it:
I'll be honest - the bag is completely for show here, because what else would I do with my hands when taking a pic 😂 Unlike the outfit above, this outfit was planned out well in advance. With my son's birthday party last week we'd sent out the invites, bought all the cake ingredients, decorations, party bags, party favours...and then we were told to enforce social distancing in Australia. We figured maybe as it was in a park we would still be okay.... but then we were told that grandparents shouldn't see their grandkids. So we very regretfully had to cancel my son's birthday celebrations. I know people around the world are dealing with worse and it's a minor inconvenience, but as a mum you don't want to see your kids upset!
We went ahead with the party at home, just us, his brother and the dogs. We still played party games, still had party food and all the decorations, and I still wore the outfit (and the bag!) I'd planned even though we didn't leave our house. I wouldn't ordinarily wear such a pretty dress if no-one would see it - but I felt like I should still put the effort in to get dressed up like I would if he'd had the party we planned.
Last worn: teal floral dress, gold necklace, Havaianas, Amerii round straw bag (above).
Other ways to wear: teal floral dress for Christmas, Amerii round straw bag in winter.
Both dresses are very pretty and look fab on you Mica. Hope you and you family are all well and keeping safe.

WOW! Lovely dresses ang cool outfits! )))
ReplyDeleteAaaaaw....belated happy birthday to your son:) That was really lovely that you still had a "party" for him. Birthdays are birthdays, no matter what:) And love both dresses. You look great in them! That was great you were able to spend a date with the hubby before everything shut down.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend, and stay safe:)
Thank you Emmy! He said he had a fun day although it was a shame he couldn't celebrate in the park with his friends! They shut the playgrounds down not too long after anyway.
DeleteSorry to hear about the party. Good for you for doing it with yourselves! I love bags like that but don't have one yet!
ReplyDeleteYes it was nice to still celebrate a little at home :)
DeleteLove the new blue one! And the first is always nice to see, so pretty!

What a perfect night out look! I adore that straw bag. It is such a unique piece. And that dress! Actually both dresses! The colours are just beautiful on you.

Your maxi dresses are both so cute--the colors are in my sweet spot! I'm so glad you and your husband got to go out before all of this craziness. We were able to have brunch with our daughters just before all of the quarantine went into effect--the restaurant and very few people in it.
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy to think how long it may be before we get to do these things again!
DeleteYa for date night. I haven't had a date night in over a year. Both dresses look amazing on your. I hope you have a great weekend. I will be working all weekend long. Which work is starting to calm down some now.

DeleteThese are both so beautiful and cheerful with the pretty colors and prints. Especially loving the second dress! And the bag is so the perfect for these pretty dresses!

Wow, we don't have a Kmart, but I love the prints. Very spring and charming dresses. <3

I think Australia is the only place with a Kmart which is a shame as thy have great bargains!
DeleteOooh I love your outfit! Everything is put together so well. I am a big fan of your drape jacket! Those are my favorite. Oooh your Amerii straw bag is super cute. I've been meaning to get one myself. Your dresses are super cute. Love the floral prints. Stay safe!

I was thrilled to get this one, they are so trendy!
DeleteHow lovely that you and your husband got to have a date night all to yourselves before all of this craziness hit, Mica! You look wonderful in your coral maxi - love the gold accessories, and that bag is so sweet.
ReplyDeleteYes, my mom is quite upset that she can't see her grandkids, but she understands, as she is in the risky 70+ age bracket. Hopefully there will be many more birthdays to celebrate with everyone in the future!
Take care of yourself, my dear. Stay safe!
yes we are going to have so many big celebrations when all this is over!
DeleteI had to laugh because purses are so good as a prop...I totally get that.

I'm so sad our Kmart is gone... I used to find some cute things there
ReplyDeleteLove that you played party games and had your son's party with just the family and dogs, of course!! Better safe than sorry, right now.
ReplyDeleteMy mom had the best KMart near her. I could always find something cute in it. One of my favorite pairs of shoes came from that store. But all of the KMarts around me have closed. Loved the round straw bag. I would like to have a round bag this summer. Have coveted one for a couple of years!!
This one is a really cute one, just for the essentials it's the perfect size!
DeleteWhat a cheerful dresses! That s what we need these days! Stay safe my friend!
ReplyDeleteThese are both absolutely beautiful dresses, Mica! I hope you're doing well during this chaotic time. It really is wild to see so many restaurants and businesses closed. I hope you have a wonderful weekend, friend!
ReplyDeleteMake Life Marvelous
Thankfully the restaurants are still open here, they are just takeaway only, to help keep more jobs!
DeleteLove the dress and gold necklace combo!
ReplyDeleteLovely outfits, Mica. What a bummer about the party but good for you adapting and rolling with the punches. The world has changed so quickly. Its still nice to think about what you might've worn to these kind of things. I'd be curious to see your work from home outfits. I need inspiration!

haha so far it's pyjamas and loungewear! i'm slowly trying to start getting dressed more but it's hard to resist the ease of loungewear when you're home all day with the kids!
DeleteThat first dress is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteBoth of your outfits are so nice and glad you had the date night out. I love that black bag and it's so unique compared to the light brown bags. Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely that you were able to have a night out before all the madness started. It's only a few weeks, but quite unimaginable and unbelievable how things have changed. Dressing up is one of the things that are keeping me sane. I'm loving both maxi frocks and that wonderful circle bag is a delight! Do keep safe, Mica! xxx
ReplyDeleteYes in just a few weeks everything is shut down!
DeleteI'd love a straw bag! They look like they'd be so perfect for summer xo
ReplyDeleteMakeup Muddle
Such beautiful outfits, both of them. The first maxi dress fits you so well, it is such a pretty shade and I do like the floral print. The second printed maxi dress is just as chic. I like this shade of blue. You have styled both of these looks so well. You look lovely dear. I hope all is well. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteMy oldest daughter had two friends who had to cancel their parties too. It's so sad, but in the long run I really hope it will help prevent the spread! Both of your maxi dresses are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYes I hope it helps!
DeleteIt is weird to think about how "normal" the world was just a few weeks ago. I saw a friend on March 3, and we talked about the coronavirus, but we also went out to eat and had no serious concerns. Now, we're officially supposed to stay home unless we have "essential" reasons to go out. Crazy. It a shame about Mr. 3's birthday party, but it sounds like you guys really made the best of it!
ReplyDeleteIt really all did change so quickly! I'm glad he still had a good day!
DeleteFirst time to see this bag in black, good on you to get this colour. I hope you are doing well in QLD, I'm scared to go out now it's a good thing we can work from home.
ReplyDeletewww.busyandfab.com
Ooh I love that coral dress on you. What a fabulous colour and print. I also really like the teal dress too. It is such a shame that so much has had to be modified for what is unfolding. Birthdays, weddings but we have to do what we can to fight this virus. A friend of mine was also planning her sons birthday for next weekend but had to cancel too. My cousin was to get married overseas in a destination wedding in July and has now cancelled it too. It's a sad reality but what can we do :o(

I love maxis and both of those dresses are in my two favorite colors and they look gorgeous on you! I love the way you dressed up the coral one with the beautiful gold accents (I love your mouse slippers so much) and I don't think I've ever seen you with a round rattan bag before. I would love to try a round rattan bag but I just haven't picked one up yet. I do realize they don't hold very much, but I have a lot of that type of purse that I really just need for a couple of credit cards, a phone and a couple of touch-up makeup items. Oh. And a comb. And a mirror. And hand lotion. And checkbook. OK. I really have no right to be carrying a small bag. You've accented the teal maxi perfectly and I'd love to see that necklace closer - you see so few cuff necklaces and yours looks really pretty and unique. I think one of the saddest things about this virus (and there are so many sad things about it) is seeing the little ones having to give up parties they've gotten so excited about for months. Our neighbors put up huge signs all over their front yard for their 10-year-old's birthday. Hopefully school and church friends came by to do selfies in the front yard and posted them. I honked as I went by. Parents are getting so creative right now. I'm still working at the office. My job is considered an essential business and my part is still pretty busy and very hands-on. Fortunately there are only 3 to 4 of us coming in every day now and the building is 10,000 sf/930 sm so we can easily practice social distancing. Hopefully you can have a big non-birthday party for him after we're all past this crisis. Stay safe, stay healthy <3

This is the perfect little bag for just the essentials! :) I'm glad I got this one to try, I really like it! :)
DeleteIt's nice your neighbours could do that for their little one! We had everyone video call which was good, so he still managed to see a lot of people! Stay safe, with still working! We are working from home (or trying to with the kids at home!)!
It's tough to celebrate special occasions right now and it's good that your family still found a way to have a party for your son at home. Trying to adapt and make the best of things is really the only way we can establish some sense of normalcy in these crazy times. Being safe and healthy is the priority and I hope you and your family stay that way.
ReplyDeleteI agree, safety first!
DeleteI totally get what you mean - we celebrated our sons birthday party only a week before social distancing became advisable in Germany, and I feel very lucky we could do that. It is a hard and confusing time for the kids anyway.
ReplyDeleteOh that's good you could do that! It is so hard and confusing for the kids!
DeletePerfect dresses ❤
ReplyDeleteLove both of these floral dresses! The colors are lovely and I adore the cardi with the first one especially.

It's a lovely bag, I think it would be a great option for a day of casual errands too. It's a shame you had to cancel the party but it's really nice that you managed to have a little one at home. There's a lot of compromises like that having to be made right now x

ReplyDeleteIt is too bad about your son's party, but it sounds like you were still able to celebrate and make it special for him. It really has been shocking how quickly things keep changing week-to-week. To think that barely four weeks ago I was on a business trip...
Yes, everything changed so quickly!
