Ruffle Dresses In The Office: Printed And Plain with Purple Balenciaga Work

Like anyone with a large wardrobe, there are many different factors that come into play when picking what to wear. Mood, planned activities, weather... however the only reason I wore these dresses was because I saw them hanging in my wardrobe and realised I hadn't worn them in a while! They are sleeveless, but it was easy to layer them up for cold mornings.

While both of these dresses look different, they are exactly the same style with a ruffled neckline, sheer top layer with opaque lining, and an elasticated waist. Because one is printed and one is plain, they look like two completely different dresses.

What I wore:

camel trench, bleu louis vuitton monogram shawl, balenciaga work bag | away from blue

office selfie leopard print ruffle dress grey cardigan | working mum style | away from blue

ScarfLouis Vuitton monogram shawl in bleu
DressJeanswest ruffle neckline animal print dress
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
BagBalenciaga raisin purple 2009 giant silver G21 hardware work bag

Why I wore it:

While this dress does have a lot going on - it's a busy animal print, with a lot of ruffles on top - it never feels overpowering. The neutral colours make it really easy to accessorise. I went with some bright colours, picking the blue Louis Vuitton scarf and the purple Balenciaga work bag for another touch of colour.

While it is spring, when I wore this a few weeks ago it was still quite cold in the mornings, so my cosy trench coat and some fleece lined tights were much needed additions for my early morning commute.

As I wonder every time I wear this dress, I'm not sure why I don't wear it more often! It's a beautiful piece and got me a few compliments through the work day.

ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagBalenciaga raisin purple 2009 giant silver G21 hardware work bag

Why I wore it:

This dress is just as bold as the one in the first outfit, although it's due to the colour rather than the print. It's a lovely plain dress, a very berry toned pink so it looks more red here, but it looks more pink in other photos. I wouldn't ordinarily go with a purple bag for a red dress, but felt this reddish pink was pink enough that I could wear the combo. I've worn this dress with another purple bag before too.

The only downside to this outfit was that I realised on the way to work that the 'I think I've forgotten something' feeling I have most mornings I go to work was actually valid. I'd left my cardigan behind at home. Since we moved to 'hot desking' at work, I don't have a permanent desk or a desk drawer to stash a cardigan in and have to take one to work each day. I ended up taking my scarf off and tying it into a kind of kimono as I needed my shoulders covered for a few meetings. I figured a strange cover up was better than no cover up, plus the air con was particularly cold that day. It may also have felt colder because I was coming down with the bug the boys had.

So while I liked this outfit when I put it on in the morning, the lack of a cosy layer to cover up the sleeveless design and feeling a little unwell meant I wasn't too happy with it in the end!

How You Can Wear It:

Ruffle dresses are perfect for a business casual workplace. A bright colour or print makes it a fun change from a classic black pencil skirt. Just make sure to bring something to cover up with in meetings or to battle the office air-con, particularly if your dress is sleeveless like these 😂

Blue Wrap Tops And Colourful Skinny Jeans With Louis Vuitton Neverfull Tote

Sometimes I'll look through my wardrobe for something I want to wear and come across something I haven't worn in a while. These wrap tops haven't been worn recently and were definitely overdue a wear, so I set them aside waiting for an opportunity to wear them. I decided they would look great with my colourful jeans.

The resulting outfit formulas below are exactly the same, with a wrap top, cosy scarf, skinny jeans and Louis Vuitton neverfull bag. But with the different colour schemes I think they look completely different.

What I wore:

blue wrap top, family tree print scarf with green skinny jeans LV neverfull tote | awayfromblue

Louis Vuitton MM Damier azur neverfull tote and green skinny jeans | awayfromtheblue

awayfromtheblue instagram | blue and green skinny jeans wrap top neverfull and tree print scarf outfit

TopDorothy Perkins 3/4 sleeve wrap top
Jeans: thrifted ASOS petite green skinny jeans
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagLouis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull

Why I wore it:

An early start and a busy morning meant I wanted a simple and fuss free outfit. I always enjoy this wrap top when I wear it as it's so cosy and soft. The only downside to it being chilly in the morning and needing a scarf is that the scarf kind of covers up the wrap detail of the top, ha! You can see it better the last time I wore it here.

When I bought these green jeans I thought they were something to challenge me and make me try different things, as I usually find green tricky to wear. But I've been finding these jeans work with so much! I've been wearing them so frequently lately. I love blue and green together so expect to see me wearing them that way a lot more often! Sticking with simple block colour pieces makes an outfit come together really quickly. It made it a simple choice when picking a scarf to wear too, as I didn't have to worry about the family tree print clashing with the clothing I was wearing. I think the navy tree part of the print matches the shade of blue in the wrap top quite nicely too!

Carried my Louis Vuitton Neverfull tote as I needed a big bag to cart everything around in as hubby and I had a busy day full of appointments and errands.

Last worn: wrap top, family tree scarf, green skinny jeans, Havaianas, Louis Vuitton Neverfull tote.

Other ways to wearwrap top and chambray skirt, family tree scarf with purple, green skinny jeans and blue knit, Louis Vuitton Neverfull tote for the beach.

TopAtmos & Here Arlene wrap top in navy
Jeans: thrifted Emerson red skinny jeans
Shoesslim gold Havaianas
BagLouis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull

Why I wore it:

While blue and green is a fairly new colour combination for me, I've always loved red and blue together. I was quite surprised to see that I've never worn this navy wrap top and these red jeans together before! They seem like such an obvious pairing.

The scarf was a last minute addition to my outfit, as the day was off to a cooler than expected start. On this morning there was a dust storm in Brisbane so everything was just a little hazy and the early sunlight was very golden! Last time I wore this poppy print scarf it was with navy and I really liked the combination, so I was happy to wear it with the same colour again. Again, the scarf does cover up the wrap design of the top a bit though!

We had a busy morning with a dentist appointment for the eldest followed by swim lessons. This was an easy and comfortable outfit for all of that. The big Louis Vuitton wasn't really needed as I wasn't carrying all that much, I just thought it went nicely with the rest of my outfit.

Vloggers Catch Up Video: Striped Tees and Skinny Jeans With Colourful Rebecca Minkoff Bags

Exciting post today, sharing my usual two outfits and my first video collaboration with a brand! I mentioned before I got talking to a brand I love at the bloggers brunch and so I featured them in a video when I went to catch up with some other vlogging mums. Unfortunately, I didn't love my outfits as much as I loved catching up with my YouTube friends, I ended up regretting my outfit choices.

What I wore:

Rebecca Minkoff red micro Avery cross body bag on arm with black | awayfromtheblue

ScarfLouis Vuitton monogram shawl in bleu
Tee: thrifted navy stripe Coca-Cola logo tee
JeansJeanswest prima denim super skinny jeans in absolute black
Shoes: Kmart sparkly silver glitter sneakers
BagRebecca Minkoff red micro Avery cross body bag

Why I wore it:

Wasn't sure what kind of day it would be, so I took the opportunity to wear all the layers! The boys and I headed to New Farm park for an Australian Vlogging Mums catch-up. We were going to be sitting by the water and it was a cold morning so cosy pieces seemed like a great idea. By the time we reached the park it was much warmer. I left the scarf in the car, and the cardigan came off and on through the morning, spending most of the time just in jeans and a tee.

I thought this little red Rebecca Minkoff Avery bag was a cute touch with the red logo on the tee, and it also fits nicely inside the baby bag to help reduce the number of bags I had to carry on the way back to the car.

I did regret wearing the glitter shoes. They were comfortable and I thought they'd be fun, but they did get a little dirty. Not as dirty as the new shoes I put on the boys before they got up to their mischief though! You can see what I mean in the video. Bad shoe choices for the whole family there!

Last worn: black cardigan, Louis Vuitton shawl, striped tee, Prima skinny jeans, glitter shoes, Rebecca Minkoff micro avery bag.

Why I wore it:

This day was not as fun as the one above! Similar outfit formula though, again with a striped tee, skinny jeans and those fun glittery shoes. I added the purple cardigan and blue scarf for some extra colour with all of the neutrals. Like the first outfit, I added a cute and colourful Rebecca Minkoff bag. This time my plum mini MAB tote.

The plan was for a relaxing Saturday with a swim lessons and grocery shopping, but plans quickly changed when the little one was unwell. Took him to the doctors where I again regretted my outfit choice.

Sick kids are messy, and I was wearing a white tee...which wasn't quite as white by the time the doctor called us through!

It was a nice outfit, just a bad day! Thankfully the doctor could give us some medicine to help.

Monochrome Pencil Skirt Outfits With Long Sleeve Tees And Colourful Scarves

Wearing a few of my recent purchases to the office! I managed to pick up a couple of long sleeved tops at the opshop sale last month. While it was nearing the end of winter in Brisbane and getting warmer, it's still quite chilly when I have my commute to work so I knew the long sleeves would be perfect to wear to the office. I'm lucky my dress code is on the casual side of business casual too so a tee is perfectly acceptable, especially when paired with a pencil skirt as I have here.

Keeping things simple, I stuck with monochrome outfits and added a pop of colour with my scarves, topping off my outfits with the fun tassel statement earrings I also bought last month.

What I wore:

monochrome black winter pencil skirt outfit with cobalt louis vuitton shawl mulberry bays | away from blue

Mulberry oak NVT bayswater heritage bag | away from the blue

awayfromblue instagram | cobalt blue louis vuitton monogram shawl scarf with black pencil skirt trench coat

monochrome black tee pencil skirt ankle boots office outfit with cobalt scarf pop of colour | away from blue

ScarfLouis Vuitton monogram shawl in bleu
Tee: thrifted Maison Scotch black paint splatter print long sleeved tee
SkirtJeanswest zip detail ponte pencil skirt
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
BagMulberry Bayswater in Oak NVT leather

Why I wore it:

Keeping things really simple and going completely monochrome with the black long sleeve tee and black pencil skirt. I usually plan my outfits the night before, and figured the print on the top would stop the outfit looking too boring. When I put it all on in the morning though, I realised the print on the top wasn't doing enough to add a bit of lightness, especially paired with the black pencil skirt, black tights and ankle boots. Even the navy earrings weren't lifting this enough, it looked a bit drab.

The bright blue Louis Vuitton shawl was the perfect solution - a great pop of colour against the black. It also kept me nice and cosy in the morning. I like that spring like weather is arriving again here in Brisbane, but it's still extremely wintery in the early hours!

Last worn: camel trench, Louis Vuitton shawl, black pencil skirt, black ankle boots, Mulberry Bayswater tote bag. It's the first time I've worn the tee on the blog as it's a recent purchase.

Top: thrifted cobalt blue long sleeve tee
SkirtAsos blue textured lace pencil skirt
ShoesAsos leather Chelsea boots in tan
BagMulberry Bayswater in Oak NVT leather

Why I wore it:

Still a monochrome outfit, but sticking with my favourite colour and going blue with the cobalt tee and the lace pencil skirt. I added even more colour to this with the orange scarf, it really pops against blue and I've worn it that way before with a navy dress.

I love how well the navy earrings coordinated with the blues on my outfit and they got a few compliments! I've admired the statement tassel earring trend on the ladies I follow on Instagram for a while, but with particularly curious and grabby toddlers I was sure it was going to be a trend I'd have to let pass me by. Suddenly realised I could do what I do with all other non-kid friendly pieces in my wardrobe and just wear them to work. Even if I do have to take them off as soon as I get home in the afternoon! They were fun to wear and try out for something different from my usual accessories!

While I loved the blue and orange together I really wasn't happy with the ankle boots I chose for this. I am noticing every time I wear these tan boots with black tights it just emphasises how petite I am and makes my legs look a bit stumpy. The longer length pencil skirt doesn't really help! I thought that with the oak Mulberry Bayswater bag it would tie in nicely, but a few times through the day I wished I'd worn my black ankle boots instead.

Last worn: navy macintosh, orange crinkle scarf, blue lace pencil skirt, Chelsea leather boots, Mulberry Bayswater (above). First time I've worn the tee on the blog as it's a recent purchase.

Red Tees, Skinny Jeans, Cardigans and Louis Vuitton Bags

At the end of winter, while the days were warming up in Brisbane, the mornings were still pretty cold. It means layering up, so by the time it reaches 25 / 28 degrees (82 F) in the afternoon, you've shed all of your layers.

Despite wearing a similar outfit formula on both of these days, I had very different experiences with each!

What I wore:

red tee with skinny jeans converse grey maxi cardigan louis vuitton speedy bag | awayfromblue

Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere with heatstamp | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue instagram grey cardigan skinny jeans leopard print scarf and red tee outfit

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a busy but fun filled day. I had the day off from work to volunteer at the Ekka (Brisbane's royal state show, kinda like the state fairs in the US). I dropped the boys off at daycare, ran a quick errand and started filming some videos before it was time to leave. Just as I was in the middle of filming I got a call from daycare that one of the boys had a fever. I frantically called around, found someone to take care of him, rushed to daycare to pick him up and then dropping him off in safe hands I headed out to the Ekka.

Got to the Ekka with plenty of time to stroll around taking in the sights, get some showbags and then get to work. My volunteer shift finished slightly early so I quickly picked up my bags and headed home to my boys, after quickly texting to make sure all was still okay. By the time I got home he really wasn't in a good state. I rushed him to the doctors (thank goodness for the 24/7 primary care centre nearby!) where the doctor scolded us for bringing him there instead of calling an ambulance and ended up calling the ambulance for us. Ending the night in Lady Cilento hospital was not how I had planned the day to go, but at least he's feeling better now.

Outfit wise at least I was comfortable! I picked the Converse as I knew I'd be in the kitchen volunteering for most of the day, and the scarf and cardigan were good layers to take off and on as it got too hot, and easily fit inside my Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere bag.

What I wore:

Louis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull worn on arm | away from the blue

awayfromtheblue instagram navy and red skinny jeans outfit with poppy print scarf LV NF tote
Earrings: Kmart blue fringe crescent statement earrings (new purchase)

Why I wore it:

Same outfit formula as the one above, but a much more relaxed day! I wore this a few days after the incident above, I had scheduled the day off in advance to try give myself some downtime. Thankfully the little one was feeling much better so I didn't feel too guilty leaving him to have some me-time. I spent some time Christmas present shopping, picking up things I'd noticed the boys might like on a previous shopping trip. Yes it's early, but you need to take advantage of any kid-free moments you can get to shop!

As it was supposed to warm up to such a hot day, but I had an early start, I dressed in layers. I thought this poppy print scarf worked nicely with the red tee, but I needed a little something to cover my arms to so went with this navy waterfall cardigan. The navy cardigan also perfectly matched the statement earrings! By the time afternoon arrived and it was 20 degrees warmer than when I first ventured out, the scarf and cardigan had been ditched. Again, it was nice that they could both fit inside my bag, the Louis Vuitton damier azur neverfull this time.

After a busy morning, I had a leisurely lunch and treated myself to a pedicure in anticipation of the warmer weather sticking around. It was nice to enjoy the sunshine and warmth for a bit! I even managed to film a complete video too, after the less than perfect attempt a few days before.

Red Tees Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A red tee is a versatile piece to have in your wardrobe! It's a fun pop of colour against neutral layers like in the first outfit, or works well with other colours like navy as in the second outfit. When in doubt, pair a red tee with neutral skinny jeans.

Embroidered Tops In the Office With Balenciaga Bags

After a rough week of feeling unwell and working from home, I felt well enough to return to the office. I decided to wear some of my embroidered pieces to boost my mood. I love embroidery, but it's been a while since I wore these tops so it was definitely overdue.

What I wore:

ScarfLouis Vuitton monogram shawl in bleu
BlouseJeanswest Elise longline embroidered shirt in coconut blue
PantsJeanswest 'Fiona' skinny leg pant in shiraz
Shoes: Asos leather Chelsea boots in tan
BagBalenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

Unfortunately, despite having regained most of my voice the day before, constantly greeting people in the office and explaining that I had almost lost my voice resulted in me pretty much losing my voice  again before lunch time! While meetings were difficult, they weren't impossible. I felt able to follow along mentally even if I couldn't contribute much to the discussions. There was a lot of pointing and gesturing at screens. Thank goodness for being able to use messaging apps to communicate with my colleagues in other offices rather than picking up the phone!

Lack of voice aside, I wanted to bundle up warmly as it was predicted to be one of the coldest winter days, with single digit temperatures. I'm from Brisbane, 8 degrees Celsius is freezing to us! I picked my cosiest scarf, this Louis Vuitton monogram shawl. The night before as I'd planned my outfits I'd tied it so it was more like a snood / infinity scarf. As I shared on Instagram though, it wasn't as easy to replicate on a cold and dark morning. I didn't realise it looked quite so messy until I saw the pics. Oh well, it definitely kept me warm.

Probably could have picked a warmer jacket over this blazer, and maybe not rolled my pants up to expose my ankles on such a cold day. I did love this outfit otherwise though, it was perfect for the day at work, just not so much for a nearly freezing commute!

Why I wore it:

Thought I'd wear this embroidered peasant tank to the office, as I was surprised to realise I'd never done that yet. I love this and wore it a lot while breastfeeding. It's a long flowy tunic length, perfect for lifting up slightly to feed baby but keeping your stomach covered still. It worked well in the office too! I can't believe this is the first time I've worn this top this year, it's a favourite and has been neglected too long.

While I didn't wear the trench coat in the office and swapped to a cardigan, I did enjoy all the brown tones in this outfit when I wore the trench. The scarf looks a bit crumpled from being in storage and I briefly considered ironing it, but just wore it anyway. Creases happen!

Just like the day above, my voice was better in the morning and almost non existent by the end of the day. While the day started off great with a cup of free chocolates and then lunch being provided at the office, my voice and I were exhausted by mid afternoon. I had a late meeting right before I left and my colleague was sliding me throat lozenges across the desk when she heard me trying to speak on the call! 😂
