What I wore:
Necklace: Uniquely Made with Love Sea Change necklace
Tank: Atmos & Here Oregon stripe tank
Skirt: Noisy May long denim maxi skirt
Shoes: Converse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather
Why I wore it:
So excited to get this mustard cardi out again! After I did 6 months without shopping last year I was thrilled to find this in my local opshop for $2 - and it's sure to get even more wear this year than it did last year. It was perfect to keep me cosy for a busy Saturday - we had a morning flying our kite at the park, then watching the church online service at a friend's house.Mustard yellow and aquamarine with the blue chambray skirt makes for a colourful outfit. The black striped tank seemed like the perfect neutral to wear with it. The mustard yellow and aqua combo is one I've worn before here.
Normally, I'd wear a top tucked into the top of the maxi skirt, to make the top hit at a more flattering spot on my petite self. This time around though, with the long line of the cardigan and maxi skirt, I actually preferred the top untucked! I've been trying to think differently about my outfits lately. Even if it's just something as simple as wearing a top I'd always tuck in untucked, it's nice to try different things.
Last worn: mustard cardigan, black striped tank, chambray maxi skirt, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff aquamarine mini MAC bag.
Other ways to wear: mustard cardigan and little black dress, black striped tank and printed kimono, chambray maxi skirt and foil print tee, Converse and bermuda denim shorts, Rebecca Minkoff aquamarine mini MAC bag and boho dress.
Perfect for pregnancy: Converse in second trimester, Rebecca Minkoff aquamarine mini MAC bag and maternity shorts.

What I wore:
Necklace: Lovisa wooden statement bead necklace
Top: Jeanswest 'Josie' striped back strap tank
Skirt: Jeanswest Luxe jersey maxi skirt
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather
Why I wore it:
While I loved the outfit formula above, I didn't like it so much this time I tried it. It's the same basic pieces, though, a striped tank, maxi skirt and colourful cardigan. While I like all of the pieces separately, I just felt they didn't look as good together as the outfit at the top. I felt it was good enough in my rush to leave the house and get to playgroup on time with the boys though!I also forgot just how breezy this skirt is to wear, with a split on both dies up to my knee. It made staying cosy outside in the playground a little trickier. Even with the ankle boots,it wasn't enough when the wind picked up.
I don't think it's a complete outfit fail, but I think a different maxi skirt or a simpler cardigan would have improved this outfit. One of those ones where you throw things on in the morning after waking up with a vague idea of what to wear, and the resulting outfit shows that you've thrown it on 😂
Last worn: red waterfall cardigan, striped tank, black drawstring maxi skirt, black ankle boots, Rebecca Minkoff aquamarine mini MAC (above).
Other ways to wear: red waterfall cardigan for the office, striped tank and pencil skirt, black drawstring maxi skirt worn two ways, black ankle boots worn 30 ways, Rebecca Minkoff aquamarine mini MAC with olive shorts.
Perfect for pregnancy: striped tank and maternity jeans, black ankle boots in second trimester, Rebecca Minkoff aquamarine mini MAC in third trimester.

I love red cardigan! It makes such a statement. Love the outfits and the bag is really pretty too.

Thanks! It's such a fun colour!
DeleteSuch a cute outfit x

I love that you still wear your maxis in the winter Mica!! We even tried that on the blog but it didn't turn out as good as these outfits. I understand about the slit in the skirt---would it be too weird to safety pin the slit together?? You probably have other options that would work instead, but I'm always the fix it girl!!

haha yeah it's perfect in summer so I'll just leave it (goes all the way up to my knee). Just silly of me to wear it in winter!
DeleteBeautiful and vibrant outfits.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day!
Kathy's delight
I love the colour combos of both of your outfits, Mica! I love the mustard yellow with the blue chambray skirt in the first outfit. What a fab colour mix! I love black and red together too: such a classic mix. The aquamarine bag is such a pretty colour too: it looks fab with everything! ;) XXX
ReplyDeleteThanks Sasha - the bag surprisingly goes with so much! :)
DeleteLovely look. That necklace is so cool!

I have been looking for some striped tanks very similar to yours and have had the hardest time finding ones here! I love how easily they pair with other solids. Yours look great with both of your colorful cardigans!
ReplyDeleteGina || On the Daily Express
When I find one I snap it up! These are from two different brands, basics can be so hard to find sometimes!
Deleteyes, it's always nice to try new things, even a subtle difference as in wearing something a bit different can make our style more fresh. I do love both of these outfits. The mustard cardi is so cute. I like the red one as well. Great that you can wear most of your clothes all year around. P.S. I hope your voice gets better soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ivana! My voice is much better now! It's true, it's nice to try different things now and then, even if it's only little differences!
DeleteI try to wear most of my closet year-round too, although sometimes I can't break myself of the habit of designating something a "fall" top or a "summer" top even if it doesn't necessarily need to be that way. I love the look of the first outfit, it really does work with the top untucked like that. And the colors are so fun too!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's nice to try think outside the box and wear things outside of one season!
DeleteYou wear such bright and happy colours- perfect for summer! Great post- would love if you checked out some on mine Xx
ReplyDeleteLulu,

I can understand why you like wearing some of your clothing all-year round! I feel as though I should definitely start doing the same, as the weather can be SO variable - especially when the seasons are transitioning over! You look lovely in these longline cardigans babe :)
ReplyDeleteGabrielle | A Glass Of Ice x
Yes, it's good to wear pieces outside of summer, even if you can't wear them into winter where you are!
DeleteSo cute! I love your turquoise bag, too. A striped top is an absolute closet staple!

Both outfits are very nice and the combo of colours are so cool! Give me lots of stripes and I love that you added the striped top to your outfit!

Stripes are the best!
DeleteThe first outfit is fabulous - that mustard cardi (only $2?? Awesome!) is such a nice colour on you, Mica. I agree about untucking the top and playing with the proportions - I'm feeling the "flow" with this.
ReplyDeleteThe second outfit - there's nothing objectively wrong with it, but it lacks the softness of the other outfit. The bright red is superb, and you really can't go wrong with black and red together, but it's not quite ringing my bell like the first outfit. I do love the pop of turquoise with it - maybe it's that the necklace is shades of brown that throws it off? I would love to see a turquoise necklace to echo the bright of the purse.
I love that you pay such close attention to the nuances of your outfits, Mica.
Thanks Sheila! I'm trying to focus more on rewearing pieces and even little things like untucking can make a difference. I think a turquoise or even just a different necklace with the second outfit would have worked better! :)
DeleteHi Mica I adore both outfits. I feel a cardi is a light and cute layering piece. ..it's chic and pulls this look together nicely. I love how you gravitated toward bold colors. Thanks for the inspiration always. Have a great rest of the week.

Thanks Tiff! A cardigan is an easy way to add a bold colour :)
DeleteYou know I love a good maxi skirt even though I only own one of two ;)
ReplyDeleteThe mustard cardi for 2 bucks was a great find.
It was such a good find! I was so happy to stumble across it!
DeleteLove the first look. It has kind of coastal vibes to it. Maybe I'm missing summer a little too much but I think it would be perfect for those hot days you spend a cafes by the beach.

That skirt is such a great summer piece!
DeleteLove the looks. The color of the bag looks really nice with the mustard cardigan.
ReplyDeleteA Shimmer, A Shadow
I love the second outfit. It has so many classic piece to it. Only thing I would change is the color of handbag but that because I have a thing everything has to match.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get your voice back soon.

Thanks Amy, I'm sounding much better! I think a little matchy matchy would have looked good in that outfit too.
DeleteBoth outfits are beautiful but I love the mustard cardigan so much, it is a lovely color to wear all year around!! You always make the best pairings!!! Hope you are having a lovely week!! :)

Hi Mica
ReplyDeleteWhen I see your looks I came to the conclusion that I have to bet on striped clothes, they are so trendy. I also liked most your first look, I liked the color combination more, in the second look maybe another necklace and skirt would not be that big fail of which you speak. I hope everything is fine with your voice now!!

Thanks Marisa - my voice is much better! I think stripes are the best :)
DeleteI do like the first outfit with the yellow cardigan. It's a nice pop of color and the way everything flows in this outfit is perfect! I love your top untucked too. It looks great this way!

Yeah, much too breezy for such a windy day, haha!
DeleteI really like your second outfit! Maybe I can't see the maxi that well, but the cardi looks great with the shirt and skirt! Fashion is in the eye of the beholder :)
ReplyDeleteI love the color combos you did here! The mustard cardi is a great option because the color can really be paired with so much. I really love the second look with the bright red sweater and that teal handbag. The colors play off eachother so well!

Just love that mustard cardi! I still wear cardi's a lot in the summer, or I'll bring them along in my bag incase the inside of a building is cold. That denim maxi skirt looks like a very nice and versatile piece!! That waterfall cardi is a gorg bright color in the second outfit!

I do the same when I'm spending all day in the air conditioning too! (Perfect for work!)
DeleteI've always been a fan of the blue-and-yellow combo so I really love your first outfit, but even the second one is a win for me too coz I think the pop of colour from the bag is such a fun look:) And love that purple waterfall cardi vid. It does go so well with so many looks, and pairing it with the magenta City bag is just perfection.
ReplyDeleteThanks Emmy! I really like fun and colourful cardigans like these :)
DeleteI like to try to wear my summer pieces year round though working them in sometimes ends up in some creative layering LOL. The vibrants colors of both of these cardigans add such a nice pop of color to these outfits!
ReplyDeletehaha yes I'm lucky it doesn't get as cold ehre as it does for you!
DeleteDefinitely not an outfit fail. I love the combination of aquamarine, chambray blue, and mustard yellow . Fabulous and original! I also really love the stripes. I hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead .

I really like the second outfit's combination! The cardigan and skirt look so cozy together! I often wear some of my lighter winter pieces like thin sweaters and cardigans year round too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura!
DeleteIt's great that you get so much wear out of your summer clothes. I love all the pretty bright colors you used in your outfits.
ReplyDeleteKathrin | Polar Bear Style
Funny enough but I like the black skirt and red cardigan combo. I can see why you were not too happy about the skirt due to the splits but comes hot days, I hope you will appreciate them more
ReplyDeletehttps://lookingfabulousat50.blogspot.com/
Yes, it's perfect in the warmer weather!
DeleteI keep my winter pieces (with the exception of a few very chunky knits) in my wardrobe all year round. Our summer has days like today, with 17 degree an wind, so a jumper and denim work fine.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Linda, Libra, Loca
haha yes, those are winter temps for us!
DeleteEvery time I come to your blog, I always think how I need to get my hands on some kimonos! They are so pretty and practical, especially for throwing over a simple outfit and making a whole lot of difference! Trouble is, I can't seem to find any pretty ones!
