Purple and Prints: Jeans and Tee Outfits With Cardigans and Magenta Bags

Two kind of similar jeans and tee outfits I wore recently with prints, purple, cardigans, and magenta bags.

What I wore:

Sass Bide printed skinny jeans with grey cardigan lilac tee and magenta marc by marc jacobs bag | awayfromblue

grey cardigan and Marc by Marc Jacobs Dr Q Convertible clutch in electric violet | awayfromtheblue

Jacket: Paper Scissors grey wrap cardigan
Earrings: Kmart silver leaf drop chandelier earrings
Necklace: Tiffany & Co silver 5th Avenue notes heart pendant necklace
Tee: Spectrum basic v-neck tee in washed lilac
Jeans:  Sass & Bide Playman skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bag: thrifted Marc by Marc Jacobs Dr Q Convertible clutch in electric violet with Rebecca Minkoff Crystal Star Shoulder Guitar strap

Why I wore it:

Not entirely sure that this outfit worked. I love all the pieces separately, but together I just wasn't feeling it. I wanted this purple tee to bring a bit of colour for a zoom call I had that day, and the cardigan was a good choice for both the school run and being comfortable while working from home.

I'd thought about wearing a statement necklace or pair of earrings the night before but hadn't actually decided what I'd go with. I ran out of time trying a couple options that morning so settled on classic silver with this Tiffany heart necklace and the silver dangly leaf earrings. The earrings feel a bit dressy for such a casual outfit, but they worked well to make me feel pulled together for my long zoom call during the day. I did however take them off for the school run - with mask rules in place in Brisbane meaning I need to wear masks indoors and when dropping off or picking up the kids. It's easier to take masks off and on without statement earrings like this!

I thought this Marc By Marc Jacobs bag would be nice as I really didn't have to carry much - just the essentials, and it has a main compartment for my wallet and phone, a pocket for car keys, a pocket for hand sanitiser and a front pocket for my mask! Perfect. I really like how it looks with the lilac tee too.

Last worn: grey cardigan, silver earrings, heart necklace, purple tee, chevron print skinny jeansConverse, Rebecca Minkoff bag strap, Marc By Marc Jacobs convertible clutch.

Jacket: Jeanswest waterfall drape cardigan in navy night sky marle
Necklace: Chanel necklace layered with Tiffany diamonds by the yard necklace
Tee: Kmart grey leopard print tee
Jeans: Jeanswest blackberry super skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta

Why I wore it:

I liked the colours of the outfit above, so repeated it again a couple of days later. And repeated the Converse too! This time I wore the Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody bag in magenta, purple jeans and a printed top. I noticed this old grey leopard print tee in my wardrobe and realised it was overdue a wear! It was a bargain $2 sale find in winter 2019, but this is only it's fifth wear since I bought it. Not bad at 40 cents a wear, but I really should wear it more. I thought the grey leopard print looked good with the navy cardigan and purple jeans.

Tried a little necklace layering too with the round neck letting me pair two shorter silver necklaces together, instead of a big long statement necklace as I'd usually wear. Not a huge difference but nice to try a little departure from my regular accessorising!

Was a quiet day so this was a really comfortable outfit for it - school run in the morning, some errands and an appointment with the little one afterwards, and our regular library run too.

Last worn: navy cardigan, diamond necklace, Chanel necklace, grey leopard print tee, purple skinny jeans, black Converse (above), Rebecca Minkoff magenta Edie crossbody bag.

Other ways to wearnavy cardigan and shorts, grey leopard print tee with mustard, purple skinny jeans worn 30 ways, black Converse and pencil skirt, Rebecca Minkoff magenta Edie crossbody bag and printed shorts.

Perfect for pregnancypurple jeans in first trimester, Converse in second trimester.

How You Can Wear It

Pink and purple look good together! A magenta or pink bag can be a fun accessory worn with something purple in your outfit - from a light lilac to deeper purple shades.

Camis, Skinny Jeans and Rebecca Minkoff Jumbo Love Bag | Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear Link Up, wearing a bunch of new things! Two new spring cami tops my mum bought me back in the H&M winter sales, with jeans and my new-to-me Rebecca Minkoff jumbo Love bag.

Jeans: Jeanswest Cecile dove grey skinny jeans
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff quilted jumbo Love bag in cobalt

Why I wore it:

So happy this day arrived - vaccination day! I'd been on the waitlist at Queensland health for over 9 weeks waiting for under 40s to be eligible, and for the vaccines to finally arrive in Australia. When I got that email that I was eligible to book a vaccine I was so pleased! In fact as this post goes live I've already got my second Pfizer dose. (Or Pfiiizer if you're a fan of Jimmy Rees like I am!)

You can register here if you're in Queensland to get your vaccine via Qld Health: https://www.vaccinebookings.health.qld.gov.au/registerforvaccination/. Or try hotdoc for a GP vaccine appointment, or your local pharmacy.

Because it was such a nice day we decided to make the most of it. I was booked into the Southbank hub so hubby took the kids to the playground while I got my shot and then we met up and had a wander around the museum after. Was such a good day!

Thought it was the perfect chance to wear this cute floral print cami that mum picked up for me in the H&M winter sale - just $5! I couldn't quite figure out the tie though, better luck next time maybe! I added the kimono for a little shoulder coverage in the sun and because it was easy to drop down for the vaccine.

First wearing of the Rebecca Minkoff Jumbo bag too, perfect for fitting all my essentials and my water bottle inside.

Last worn: earrings, crochet trim kimono, diamond necklace, heart necklace, grey skinny jeans, New Balance sneakers. First time I've worn the floral knot front cami as it is a recent gift from my mum, and first time I've worn the Rebecca Minkoff cobalt jumbo Love bag as it is a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearcrochet trim kimono and maxi dress, grey skinny jeans worn 30 ways, New Balance sneakers and dress.

What I wore:

sass bide playman chevron print skinny jeans with mint cami white jacket and cobalt jumbo love bag | away from blue

white jacket, Rebecca Minkoff quilted jumbo Love bag in cobalt | awayfromtheblue

Jacket: no label white drape jacket
Necklace: Lovisa mixed texture beaded necklace
Top: H&M mint v-neck cami
JeansSass & Bide Playman skinny jeans
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff quilted jumbo Love bag in cobalt

Why I wore it:

Another new cami! I like this one as the cami as I don't have a lot of mint in my wardrobe and it's made with 55% recycled plastic. I'd been talking to a lady the night before who mentioned that some recycled fabrics aren't very breathable or comfortable so I was a little concerned. Luckily because this is a loose cami, it was a delight to wear! As I've given more than a few of the kids ruined, torn or stained clothes to the H&M recycling program I like the idea that I might be wearing some of those recycled fabrics, although I know it's unlikely.

This felt a little dressed up for the school run, sports for the kids and a playdate, but it was nice for a change - I've only worn this necklace to the office before. I wore my old fave black ballet flats as once I added the necklace to this outfit, I knew my Converse would just be too casual!

The only thing I didn't like about this outfit is that the cami looks a bit long in the pics, petite girl problems! Maybe I should have tucked it into the jeans, but I still loved wearing this though.

How You Can Wear It:

Spring means light coverups instead of full jackets, and bringing out the spaghetti strap tops like these cute camis. You can't go wrong with jeans either!

Colourful Knits and Printed Shorts With Chloe Paraty Bag

With warmer weather at the end of August as spring started to arrive in Brisbane, I squeezed in a final wear of my winter knits, pairing them with cute printed shorts to create the perfect outfits for the temperatures.

What I wore:

mustard knit with navy printed culotte shorts, converse, chloe small periwinkle paraty bag | awayfromblue

Chloe periwinkle small Paraty bag with navy printed shorts | away from blue

awayfromblue Instagram | mustard marl knit with navy printed culotte shorts converse chloe periwinkle paraty bag

Necklace: Uniquely Made with Love Sea Change necklace
Knit: SES fashions mustard marle knit jumper
Shorts: Kmart culotte short in navy lemon print
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star coast blue
BagChloe periwinkle small Paraty

Why I wore it:

What a day this was! It was set to be a pretty relaxed day, with sports for the little one after dropping his eldest off at school, and then a little playdate before lunch and picking his brother up in the evening. However none of the kids wanted to leave the playdate! The other mums had prepared and brought lunch, we ended up having to buy some overpriced snacks as I had nothing - usually the lure of going home for lunch is enough to end the playdate. It made sense though, they had just come out of an unusually long for Brisbane 8 day lockdown the other week and had been missing their friends - so I was happy to let him keep on playing. He was not so happy though when we had to hurry up and leave  after 4 hours to get to school in time to pick up his brother though, ha!

I really like this mustard knit and it layers so well for winter. Although this is the first time I've worn it on its own and I'm realising it's maybe not the best colour for me (at least it looks like it in the photos) I loved this outfit. I liked the mustard with the lemon yellow print on the navy culottes and it was the perfect warmth for the day with just a little breeze. Kept all the accessories blue to pair nicely with the navy shorts, even though the Converse and the Chloe small periwinkle Paraty bag are different shades of blue.

Last worn: mustard marl knit, beaded necklace, navy printed culottes, blue Converse All Star, small Chloe Paraty bag.

Other ways to wearmustard marl knit and printed jeans, navy printed culottes and pink tee, blue Converse All Star and striped dress, small Chloe Paraty bag and maxi skirt.

Shorts: Jeanswest Parker printed shirred short

Why I wore it:

Again, I loved this outfit. It was a bit of a windy day so I appreciated the knit when we were in the shade as we scooted around our local park. Headed to the shops after for a bulk birthday present buying - the lifting of lockdown back in August brought with it a flurry of birthday party invites for the kids and we had a lot of fun wandering around Kmart picking out gifts.

Since I liked the mustard knit and navy culotte combo in the outfit above, I'd actually thought of my navy striped culottes with this cobalt knit. I just couldn't make it work though, the paper bag waist didn't look good with the slouchy knit no matter how much or how little I tucked it in. Since it was too hot for jeans and a jumper, ended up pulling out these little black printed shorts that have not been worn in a while instead and they were perfect! Black and blue work really well together, especially when the blue is a bold shade like this jumper.

Wore my Chloe small Paraty bag again for more blue with the knit, even though it's a different shade. And because it perfectly fit in all our water bottles for our scoot around the park.

Last worn: cobalt marl knit, feather necklace, black printed shorts, New Balance sneakers, periwinkle Chloe Paraty bag (above).

Other ways to wearcobalt marl knit over maxi dress, black printed shorts and cardigan, New Balance sneakers and dress, periwinkle Chloe Paraty bag and jeans.

Knits and Printed Maxi Skirts | Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear Link Up I'm sharing some comfortable outfits for making the most of the end of winter weather back in August. Squeezing in another wearing of some cosy winter knits with printed maxi skirts before it warmed up too much with spring days away.

What I wore:

ombre stripe knit with red boho print maxi skirt for late winter birthday party park outfit | awayfromblue

Chloe small Ethel bag in light khaki with red printed maxi skirt | away from the blue

Earrings: Piper gold heart earrings
Necklace: layered Tai gold alphabet necklaces
Knit: Jeanswest 'Serena' ombre knit
Skirtthrifted Billabong 'Don't Think Of It' bikini red printed maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

This was a really foggy morning after a rainy evening the day before. We had a very small (due to Covid restrictions in place at the time) birthday party in the park to attend for my son's friend. Being by the bay I didn't want to be too cold if the clouds stuck around and there was a lot of breeze off the water, but I didn't want to overheat if the sun came out either. I figured the open knit of this ombre jumper was a good compromise. The sun came out just after we left the house though and it turned into a really warm day! I kinda regretted wearing the jumper!

I thought the ombre would be an interesting pairing with the print on the maxi skirt too, the neutral knit balancing it out so it didn't look too bold. Changed my mind a couple times before going ahead, but in the end even if the knit was a little warm I'm glad I tried something a little different with this skirt!

The Chloe Ethel was perfectly sized for carrying everything I needed - it fits so much inside! I also had a big green bag though for the picnic blanket, jumpers for the boys in case it was cold (that they ended up not needing at all), and a book for me to read after the party while the kids played in the playground.

Last worn: gold heart earrings, ombre knit, initial necklaces, red printed maxi skirt, black Converse, Chloe Ethel.

Other ways to wearombre knit worn two ways, red printed maxi skirt worn 30 ways, black Converse and shorts, Chloe Ethel and jeans.

Perfect for pregnancyombre knit at 40 weeks, black Converse in second trimester.

Necklace: silver heart long pendant necklace
Knit: thrifted Valleygirl blue knit jumper
Skirt: thrifted pinstripe maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black

Why I wore it:

Much like the day before this was a foggy start to the morning and it warmed up much more than I expected! Ended up taking my jumper off as I sat in the back garden while the little one played. It was a quiet day at home really. My eldest boy had an event on most of the day so I was grateful for the jumper in the cooler morning when I dropped him off, and in the afternoon when I picked him up.

As I didn't have much to do or many places to be I wore my cute little Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody bag again - it's a good size for the essentials like phone, wallet, mask, keys and hand sanitiser. I really like the way it pops with the cobalt knit too!

This grey pinstripe maxi skirt is an incredibly comfortable one - I knew it was overdue a wear but I was shocked to see I hadn't worn it since 2020! Definitely needs to be worn more, I love the cut, so different from all my other maxi skirts. Like the cobalt knit, it was an opshop find too and another thrift bargain.

30 Ways To Wear: Billabong Red Printed Maxi Skirt

So thrilled to finally feature this pretty red printed maxi skirt in its own 30 wears post! I thrifted it back in 2017 and I'm just surprised it's taken me this long to hit over 30 wears with it. It feels like it's such a constantly worn staple for me! Definitely overdue a post celebrating all the ways I have worn it. You can wear a bright red maxi skirt in quite a few ways surprisingly. It's more versatile than you think!

30 Ways To Wear: Red Printed Maxi Skirt

30 ways to wear billabong red printed boho maxi skirt | away from blue blog

I'm not someone who has a lot of red in my wardrobe so I'm surprised by how much of a staple this skirt has become for me! While I do tend to wear it with a lot of blue, it's also encouraged me to try other colours now and then. The yellow in the boho print has made me branch out and try red and yellow together in bolder combos which I really like, and I just love how light and floaty this skirt is for summer. This slight high low hem ensures it always catches a breeze, and while it can make it tricky to photograph it makes it so fun to wear. So glad I found it!

Cost Per Wear

I thrifted this skirt at the end of my no shop challenge in 2017, after successfully not shopping for 7 months. From my favourite, but sadly now permanently closed opshop, it was just $3. At 31 wears that makes it just under 9 cents a wear. Pretty good value for a second hand skirt that's still going strong and will continue to be in my wardrobe for quite some time! For full disclosure, I did pay to have this skirt altered, because I'm petite and it's a full length maxi skirt. I don't remember how much I paid to calculate full cost including alterations but it was definitely less than $30 to it to be shortened for me so still under $1 per wear. Here are the 30 favourite ways I've worn it:

Red Maxi Skirt and Neutral Tees

red printed maxi skirt worn 4 ways with neutral tees | awayfromtheblue

Of course the most obvious choice for a bold bright printed piece like this maxi skirt is to wear it with neutrals. It is a very easy way to wear it; with a grey, white, or black tee. You can always add a little extra colour with another layer or accessory as I've done in some of these outfits too.

Red Maxi Skirt With Blue

5 outfit ideas different shades of blue navy with red printed maxi skirt | awayfromblue

I mentioned above I wear this skirt with blue a lot - any shade of blue really! Blue is my favourite colour so I have a lot of it in my wardrobe and luckily this bright cheerful red pairs so nicely with every different blue shade, from pastels to navy.

Matchy-Matchy With Red Printed Maxi Skirt and Red Handbag

3 outfit ideas of a red bag matching and worn with a red printed maxi skirt | awayfromblue

I do like being matchy-matchy and have worn my red bags with this red skirt a few times, although they do get a little lost in these outfits. Contrasting bags are definitely something I wear more commonly with this skirt. You could try matching other pieces too, like a bracelet, shoes or necklace to avoid the pieces blending together like these bags do with the skirt.

Red Printed Maxi Skirt With Yellow

red printed maxi skirt worn 3 ways with yellow and mustard | awayfromblue blog

When you have a printed piece like this skirt, an fail-safe way to find things to wear it with is to pull out a colour from the print. And with the yellow design printed on the skirt, so many shades of yellow I've worn with this work well. Mustard is definitely my favourite though!

Red Printed Maxi Skirt With Striped Tees

3 different stripe tee outfit ideas with red boho print maxi skirt | awayfromtheblue

It's fun to try a little bit of print mixing now and then. While I didn't equally love all of these striped tees with the red maxi skirt, I do think stripes are the best for print mixing with. Stripes made an easy choice when I wanted to try something different and wear a printed top with this skirt.

Red Printed Maxi Skirt and Graphic Tee Outfits

5 ways to wear red printed maxi skirt with graphic tees outfits | away from blue

Graphic tees are a staple for a causal wardrobe like mine and they work well with maxi skirts, even if they are printed like this one.

Red Printed Maxi Skirt and Knit Outfits

3 ways to wear a red printed maxi skirt in winter with knits | awayfromtheblue

This skirt is so light and perfect for summer - but I enjoy wearing it in cooler weather too. With mild Brisbane winters, pairing a maxi skirt and knit together is an easy cosy outfit for warmer winter day.

Red Printed Maxi Skirt and Denim Jackets Outfits

4 different denim jacket outfit ideas with a red printed maxi skirt | awayfromblue blog

A denim jacket is a staple in everyone's wardrobe and it works so well with a maxi skirt! I really like the blue denim jackets with this red skirt, but different colours like the white denim jacket work just as well.

What I Bought In August (And How I've Worn It) - Rebecca Minkoff Jumbo Love Bag

After achieving No Buy July I've been sticking firm to the Slow Fashion Season #FashionDetox challenge, which means buying no new fashion pieces from July to September. I'm really wanting to achieve that goal, and didn't see myself even doing much thrifting or second hand shopping for the 3 months, shopping that's allowed under the rules because it's not newly made.

But then I stumbled across a preloved bag for an amazing deal and just like I did in June, and March, and February... I impulse bought another handbag 😂 Maybe I need a handbag detox!

What I Bought:

This beautiful bag is the Rebecca Minkoff quilted jumbo Love bag in cobalt. It's a bag I've considered a few times over the years but the cheapest I've seen it on sale was $190 and I eventually thought too long even at that price and missed out on it. Being petite and wary of bigger structured bags I didn't want to spend a lot in case it was too big for me. It currently retails for $539 at David Jones so I'd always thought it would be a bag I wouldn't add to my collection.

But then I saw this second hand on Gumtree for just $50 - and knew I had to try it at that price! I do think it is a bit big for me, and I can't wear it crossbody like I do with my other love bags as it's down at my knees! But while it won't be a permanent addition to my handbag collection I plan to enjoy it for a while, the colour is amazing.

Given I don't see it being a staple for me and that I've found it a little tricky to style so far it's an impulse buy I probably shouldn't have bought, but I was so curious about this style and it's nice to have a jumbo Love bag to try. It also brings my total purchases so far this year to: 5 items of clothing, 4 bags and a wallet! 🤣 Definitely a bag buying year this year! They have all been second hand bag buys so I'm still just under budget.

How I've Worn It:

If I was in the office more this would be the perfect office bag I think, but we are still under hybrid ways of working with it meaning working from home most of the time. I've tried to work this bag into more casual outfits, with varying rates of success. I'm determined to make this bag work though, it's just so beautiful!

Stripe Dresses, Skull Scarves, Leather Jacket and Converse With Magenta Edie Bag | Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear Link Up, sticking with my tried and true outfit formulas: stripe dresses and skull scarves with leather jackets and converse. And my little Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag in magenta for a pop of colour.

What I wore:

striped tee dress with cobalt leather jacket pastel skull scarf and magenta Edie crossbody bag | awayfromblue

white and navy striped tee dress with Rebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta | awayfromtheblue

JacketWittner 'Santa Fe' cobalt blue leather jacket
ScarfAlexander McQueen skull scarf in light blue
Dress: thrifted Kmart white and navy long sleeve stripe tee dress
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star coast blue
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta

Why I wore it:

This outfit was one I wanted to wear to fix the issues I felt last time I wore this dress. It was an okay outfit then but everything didn't come together the way I hoped it would last time I wore it. So this time, I stuck with lots of blue! My favourite colour. All the different shades of it with the pastel blue skull scarf, cobalt jacket and sky blue converse all work so well together. I love this magenta Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody bag with the different shades of blue too.

I really liked this outfit a lot more than the last one - and there was no lockdown announcement when I wore the dress this time which was guaranteed to make me feel good! Instead it was the school run, taking Cooper to the groomers, a quick stop at Kmart to pickup a present for a birthday party, and returning all those lockdown books we borrowed to the library. We had so many books to return as I let the kids go a little crazy last time and borrow as many as they liked!

While this is exactly the same outfit formula as the last time I wore this dress, the different pieces and colour scheme really made a huge difference to this for me. Something so simple about copying a previous outfit and just changing up the pieces.

Unlike the colourful outfit above I kept this fairly monochrome with the black and white striped dress, black leather jacket and black Converse All Star. The colourful accessories were a good way to brighten this up a bit.

The black leather jacket was definitely a bit much with this tee dress in the afternoon though - it was a gloriously warm day and it wasn't needed for our library run. I appreciated it in the cooler morning on the school run though, was a little chilly and good to have those extra layers.

Unfortunately I managed to spill hand sanitiser over the back of this cute little Edie bag when trying to get the phone out the back pocket to get a phone call, after I'd just put sanitiser on my hands. Hand sanitiser and leather don't mix well and it's now missing a chunk of colour on the back of the bag where the sanitiser landed. Could have been worse though, at least it isn't the front of the bag!

Last worn: black leather jacket, cobalt skull scarf, black and white stripe tee dress, black Converse, Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody bag (above).

Other ways to wearblack leather jacket and maxi skirt, cobalt skull scarf and little black dress, black and white stripe tee dress with purple, black Converse and pencil skirt, Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody bag and jeans.

Perfect for pregnancyConverse in second trimester.

How You Can Wear It:

Striped dresses are a staple wardrobe basic! You can layer them up with lots of bright accessories to add more colour to an outfit. Make it easy by adding just two extra colours like I have here with pink and blue. A magenta bag goes with every shade of blue!
