Christmas Outfits: Casual and Dressy | Weekday Wear Linkup

A bit of a bumper post for the Weekday Wear Linkup today, showing you three outfits I wore over Christmas. We were very lucky to be able to spend time with our families over Christmas, with few restrictions in place here in Queensland. We haven't had any cases of coronavirus in the community in our state for over 100 days so our Christmas celebrations went on as normal, even if we had a quieter December and skipped a few other events to ensure we would all be healthy and well for the most important days! I definitely didn't take it for granted this year, with virus outbreaks in NSW state making me wonder if our plans may have had to change, and my son in hospital for an operation the week before. We were very blessed to be able to celebrate as planned.

So today I'm sharing what I wore for Christmas Day and Christmas Eve with my side of the family, as well as what I wore to spend Boxing Day at hubby's family's delayed Christmas celebration. All wardrobe oldies, with the exception of a couple new bags I got for Christmas!

What I wore for Christmas day:

Jeanswest Heather textured maxi dress in eggshell grecian column style Christmas Day Outfit with gold leo envelope clutch champagne | awayfromblue

mint dress and mixed metal bracelet stack with Rebecca Minkoff Leo envelope clutch in champagne gold | away from blue

Earrings: gold pendant chandelier earrings
Dress: Jeanswest Heather textured maxi dress in eggshell (c/o)
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus vintage silver charm bracelet and Disney Couture Winnie the Pooh bangle

Why I wore it:

This was my outfit for Christmas day itself. I was extremely excited to be able to wear my new bag, the Rebecca Minkoff Leo envelope clutch in champagne. It was massively reduced in the stocktake sales in June, so I bought one for myself and a few others as gifts, thinking as things were starting to get safer we would be back to regular and frequent parties for Christmas and New Year, ha! At over $100 off, I figured it was worth getting. Of course, with no big festive parties this will be the only time I wear it this year but it was fun to wear for Christmas day and I hope I have more chance to go out and use this clutch next year.

I knew I was going to wear an existing dress from my wardrobe for Christmas, I've had new ones the past few years so it was time to give one I already owned some love. Couldn't decide between this eggshell one or another purple printed one, but went with this dress in the end as I thought it matched my red glitter Christmas manicure better. Although I've had it a while I've never worn it for Christmas day before! Paired it with some gold accessories to compliment the champagne gold of the clutch. It was good to get all dressed up, we usually all get dressed up for church on Christmas day and although we didn't go to church this year we continued the tradition of dressing up.

Last worngold chandelier earrings, Grecian maxi dress, studded sandals. First time I've worn the Rebecca Minkoff Leo envelope clutch.

Other ways to wearGrecian maxi dress for a birthday party, studded sandals and shorts.

Perfect for pregnancyGrecian maxi dress in second trimester, studded sandals in second trimester.

What I wore for Christmas Eve:

Scarf: Fashion Scarf Girl burgundy foil reindeer and tree print Christmas scarf (tied on bag)
Earrings: Colette Ciao Bella glitter ball drop earrings
Tee: festive glitter Santa tee
Skirt: Target navy side split maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
Bracelets: the usual plus Christmas ribbon bracelet and Polka Luka resin bangles in red and teal
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC

Why I wore it:

I wore this the day before, on Christmas eve. Every year, my family get together for a relaxed catch up before the big day. We do crafts, eat lots of snacks, listen to Christmas music, make and decorate cookies, and watch a festive movie. Which by popular demand from the kids has been the Polar Express for the past few years 😂 It's so fun to spend time together and enjoy some quiet time before the present madness of Christmas day!

Had to wear my traditional Santa tee of course, and a comfortable maxi skirt for lounging around. It was a really humid day so added the burgundy and silver foil scarf on my metallic mini MAC bag instead of wearing it round my neck. Mum got me this scarf so I was eager to wear it and figure out a way to make it work for the humid day. Thought it was a fun festive touch with the outfit.

What I wore for Boxing Day Christmas celebration:

Jeanswest 'Chantelle' crochet detail blue printed maxi dress with Chloe small paraty in periwinkle blue for Christmas on Boxing Day outfit | awayfromblue

Earrings: Piper recycled metal turquoise tassel earring
Necklace: Lovisa gold filigree heart pendant
Dress: Jeanswest 'Chantelle' crochet detail blue printed maxi dress
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus rose gold and faux pearl bracelet stack
Bag: Chloe periwinkle small Paraty

Why I wore it:

And on the third day of Christmas...the in-laws decided to do Christmas on boxing day instead. It was nice to not have to try travel around on Christmas day itself and the kids loved another day of presents! Christmas at the in laws is a lot more casual than in my family, and a much shorter gathering, but again I went with a maxi dress. This is an old favourite and I've hit 30 wears with it so I'll need to so a ways to wear post with it soon.

Something not too formal but not too casual, a maxi dress is just right! Wore my new bag with it - a massive thank you to my friend who texted me about this bag after I'd been telling her I was thinking of a Chloe Paraty for Christmas, she stumbled across it and knew it would be perfect. My husband was very pleased to see that this one was a couple hundred dollars cheaper than the other Paraty bag I'd had my eye on too 😂 so it was my Christmas gift from him and the boys. I just love the colour and it pairs so nicely with the navy printed maxi dress. The earrings are new, a Christmas present from my mum and although they are a different shade of blue I thought it complimented the navy dress well and the gold works with the necklace, sandals and hardware on the Chloe Paraty bag.

Last wornnavy printed maxi dress, heart necklace, studded sandals (above). First time I've worn the Chloe Paraty bag and the tassel earrings as they were both Christmas presents.

Other ways to wearnavy printed maxi dress layered for winter, studded sandals and little black dress.

Perfect for pregnancynavy printed maxi dress at 39 weeks, studded sandals in second trimester.

Tiered Kmart Dresses and Pink Rebecca Minkoff Jean MAC Bag: Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear Link Up I'm sharing some outfits where I was making the most of the warmer days with simple tiered dress outfits, accessorised with my latest purchase, the Rebecca Minkoff Jean MAC crossbody bag. It's working so well in my wardrobe I'm kinda wishing I'd bought it earlier - an older style, it was on the David Jones site for a while before I caved and snapped it up when it was further reduced. It goes so well with both of these dresses, even though they are different lengths and colours!

What I wore:

Kmart Tropicana sleeveless tiered maxi dress dressed up with accessories earring bracelet stack jean mac bag summer mum style | awayfromblue

bracelet stack and Rebecca Minkoff Jean MAC bag in fig with floral maxi dress | awayfromtheblue

Earrings: Jeanswest Evy dangly earring
Necklace: Tiffany & Co silver 5th Avenue notes heart pendant necklace
Dress: Kmart Tropicana sleeveless tiered maxi dress
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs pearl beaded bracelets and Hermes pink clic clac
BagRebecca Minkoff Jean MAC bag in fig (new purchase)

Why I wore it:

Wore this to catch up with a friend I hadn't spoken to in a while after the school run. I dressed up a little to take advantage of the kid free occasion, with my eldest at work and my youngest watching a movie at home while his dad worked from home. It was nice to get out the house by myself for a bit for an hour, even if I probably overdressed for the rest of the day. I felt especially overdressed when I took my son for a haircut after the school run!

Added some fancy dangly earrings to this cute Kmart floral maxi dress I'm still not quite at 30 wears with yet, and a couple of bracelets that hadn't been worn in a while, like this Hermes clic clac and my little pearl bracelets.

Last time I tried this coral dress with a pink bag I really liked the combination, so I gave it a go again with this Rebecca Minkoff fig Jean MAC crossbody bag. I wasn't sure it was the best colour combination, but I'm glad I gave it a go for something different!

Last worntassel earrings, Tiffany heart necklace, Hermes clic clac, coral tropical floral print maxi dress, studded sandals. First time I've posted the Rebecca Minkoff Jean MAC crossbody as it is a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearcoral tropical floral print maxi dress layered for winter, studded sandals and sundress.

Perfect for pregnancystudded sandals in second trimester.

ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs black leather Swarovski beaded wrap bracelet
BagRebecca Minkoff Jean MAC bag in fig

Why I wore it:

Anticipating another extremely hot day I'd planned to wear this little black tiered sundress for the school run, working from home, and taking my son to an appointment in the evening. Even though it wasn't as warm as I thought it would be, this was a great outfit to wear, so comfortable all day!

With the black dress and black New Balance sneakers I felt this pink Rebecca Minkoff Jean MAC was a fun accessory again. I really liked the way it popped with the black dress! I've worn this dress with pink bags a few times and I always really enjoy the combination.

Last wornsilver heart necklace, Kmart tiered black sundress, New Balance sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff Jean MAC crossbody bag (above).

How You Can Wear It:

A strappy tiered sundress in any length is a good way to beat the heat on a hot summer day! You can dress it up with a bracelet stack and statement earrings or dress it down with a casual pair of sneakers.

Weekday Wear Link Up: Grey Tees, Blue Maxis And Blush Rebecca Minkoff Darren Messenger Bag

For today's weekday wear linkup, I'm sharing two outfits with my go-to pink and blue colour combination, taking blue maxis and adding grey tees and a blush pink bag. The first outfit is with a maxi dress and the second a maxi skirt.

What I wore:

spring layered maxi dress outfit grey tee knotted over navy dress pastel pink bag | awayfromblue

navy printed maxi dress with Rebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony | awayfromtheblue

Necklace: Target silver Alisha trinity pendant necklace
Tee: Jeanswest 'Lucy' colour block tee in grey marle/rosebud
Dress: Jeanswest 'Chantelle' crochet detail blue printed maxi dress
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony (more affordable preowned!)

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a very busy Friday! I wanted something simple and comfortable to wear that morning so decided to layer up this blue maxi dress with a grey tee to dress it down a little for what I anticipated to be a quiet day with the school run. Until, running late for school, I went to zip up my son's lunch bag and realised it had broken and wouldn't zip up and so wouldn't keep his food cool. Luckily managed to find a replacement one for him to use for the day, but it then meant spending far too long walking around the local Westfield shopping centre hunting for a replacement lunchbox. Of course at halfway through the last term for the year there was not a lot of choice! Luckily I managed to find one in the end, that my son approved of when I picked him up from school. Phew!

I did like this outfit - the knotted tee looked good with the navy printed maxi dress and because the tee has a pink panel on the back I decided to wear my Rebecca Minkoff peony pink Darren bag with it, even though they are different shades of pink I think they compliment nicely. Stuck with simple silver accessories to match the hardware on the bag with the silver necklace and ballet flats.

What I wore:

spring SAHM outfit with dark grey tee and pink floral print maxi skirt pastel rebecca minkoff bag | away from blue

floral print maxi skirt with Rebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony | away from the blue

Necklace: navy and silver circle pendant tassel necklace
TeeAtmos&Here charcoal grey v neck tee
Skirt: Ally Fashion blue border print floral maxi skirt
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony (more affordable preowned!)

Why I wore it:

A very similar outfit, but this time it's a grey tee with a printed blue maxi skirt. I surprisingly hadn't worn this tee and skirt together before, seems like such an obvious pairing with the neutral grey tee and the colourful floral print skirt. Again with the Rebecca Minkoff Darren messenger bag as it matches the pink florals so nicely! And I picked another necklace with silver hardware to match the bag too. I was wearing simple but comfortable sandals (not that you can see them with the skirt caught in the breeze...).

This was another day of traipsing around the shops after school drop off - although a planned one, as it happened before the day above! Haven't been to the shops in weeks and suddenly went twice in one week! I again masked up to visit a few different stores in an effort to track down a bike for my son's Christmas. Thankfully despite the bike shortages we were able to find one, and I ticked off a few more purchases off my list. Really want to be organised in advance for Christmas this year as postage can be slow as we get closer to December!

How You Can Wear It:

A grey tee is such a nice basic neutral, perfect for pairing with a printed piece in your outfit. Just like blue and grey, blue and pink go together beautifully too so a pink bag is a great way to accessorise a blue and grey outfit.

The Magnificent 8: Pearls!

Time for another Magnificent 8 post! Every quarter we pick a theme and all style it in our own unique ways, showing you different ideas to try across multiple age groups. Because you can be stylish at any age!

Our theme today is pearls. I have a few pearl accessories I like wearing a lot when the weather warms up, and it's been a very hot spring so far! Sharing two different outfits I've worn recently, a casual outfit with real freshwater pearls and a more dressed up one with faux pearls.

What I wore:

Jeanswest Eliza summer poncho in yellow floral with grey tee olive embroidered shorts converse | away from blue

Rebecca Minkoff MAB Camera Bag in almond with yellow kimono | away from the blue

awayfromblue instagram | casual pearl necklace outfit grey tee olive shorts yellow kimono

JacketJeanswest Eliza summer poncho in yellow floral
NecklaceRoie Designs long freshwater pearl necklace with tassel
TeeAtmos&Here charcoal grey v neck tee
Shorts: Jeanswest Tessa olive embroidered shorts
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB Camera Bag in almond

Why I wore it:

This freshwater pearl necklace is a firm favourite and is one I constantly wear on repeat! It's been worn over 34 times since I bought it. I love the long length and the mix of textures with the leather tassel and the coin pendant. It just goes with everything and is a great touch with a casual outfit. Freshwater pearls are perfect for a casual outfit, you don't have to dress up in pearls!

The olive embroidered shorts are so nice to wear in summer, being a soft pull-on style. I like wearing them with yellow and this yellow printed kimono is such a summery combination. As the kimono is so bold I went with a classic neutral grey tee as a base, and a tan bag. Even if this little Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag does struggle to fit both my things and my son's water bottle we brought along for our little walk on our fave trail after the school pick up!

What I wore:

Jeanswest 'Chantelle' crochet detail blue printed maxi dress with pearl necklace bracelet and quilted rebecca minkoff edie | awayfromblue

faux pearl accessories with Rebecca Minkoff small Edie quilted crossbody bag | away from blue

awayfromblue Instagram | blue printed maxi dress with magenta pink crossbody edie bag and pearl necklace bracelet stack spring playdate outfit

Earrings: Juicy Couture bow stud earrings
NecklaceRoie Designs faux pearl and black satin ribbon necklace
Dress: Jeanswest 'Chantelle' crochet detail blue printed maxi dress
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats
Bracelets: the usual plus faux pearl bracelet stack
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta

Why I wore it:

This is a slightly more dressed up outfit - although still just as comfortable for a hot and humid day! This time around I accessorised with some faux pearls. This necklace is fun and it ties with a long black ribbon in the back, so very comfortable to wear in spring and summer! I added the faux pearl bracelet stack too, again to try make my casual jersey maxi dress seem a little more pulled together. We had a playdate with one of my son's friends from school, which was really good. I'd expected to have more playdates this year but the virus has made it tricky!

With the faux pearls and blue printed maxi dress I wanted to add a little extra colour so I went with this Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody bag in magenta. It really pops with navy and I like how the quilted style makes the outfit a little dressier too.

Had thought about wearing sandals with this but as all mine have buckles and I wasn't sure on the "shoes in the house" policy at my son's friend's place I decided on these silver slip on ballet flats instead so I could easily remove them if needed. I've worn them a lot with this dress in the past, it's a nice combination, especially with the silver hardware on the bag.

How You Can Wear It:

Pearls are a really versatile accessory! Real or faux they are so easy to add to an outfit, no matter your style. You can try a necklace, bracelets, or even earrings and you can get pearl embellished clothing too!

Layering Maxi Dresses For Spring | Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear link up, I was making the most of spring weather here in Brisbane and layering up my maxi dresses. One on a slightly cooler spring day, and another for a much warmer day that was almost summer-like!

What I wore:

Jeanswest Chantelle blue printed maxi dress with denim jacket and bright accessories peach and magenta for spring | awayfromblue

navy printed maxi dress with Rebecca Minkoff chevron quilted small Love crossbody bag in pale coral | away from blue

awayfromblue Instagram | layering blue printed maxi dress with denim jacket and bright accessories for spring

Earrings: Piper gold heart earrings
Jacket: Jeanswest Kitty denim biker jacket
Necklace: thrifted magenta pink statement beaded necklace
Dress:  Jeanswest 'Chantelle' crochet detail blue printed maxi dress
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs logo plaque flats in camel
BagRebecca Minkoff chevron quilted small Love crossbody bag in pale coral

Why I wore it:

Dressed up a little more than I usually would for a work from home day! This blue printed jersey maxi dress is so incredibly comfortable and was perfect for the school run, sitting at my desk all day, a zoom fashion launch, and taking my son to an appointment in the afternoon. A very busy day! I wanted something bright to wear for the zoom TVSN spring/summer fashion catalogue launch. I've been invited to the events before but it's in another state so I couldn't join. With the restrictions and it being online I was able to join this time! Conveniently over lunchtime, I was able to attend in the middle of the work day and ooh and aah over all the pretty fashion pieces (some very out of my budget though!) before diving back into work.

I like pink with this blue maxi dress but I've never worn this particular magenta necklace with it before, and thought this would be a fun statement piece that was suitably bright for the summery designs we were shown. I really liked the combination, and couldn't resist adding even more colour with the little peach Rebecca Minkoff small love bag. I have paired this bag with pink sandals before and I enjoyed the colours together then too. Plus this bag was overdue a wear!

As it was a little cool for a sleeveless maxi dress, especially for the morning school run and afternoon appointment, I layered the denim jacket on top.

What I wore:

Marc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown | awayfromtheblue

away from blue Instagram | spring maxi dress layered grey v-neck tee layered over Kmart floral maxi dress with carob brown mbmj fran bag

Necklace: thrifted Equip gold and marble station necklace
TeeAtmos&Here charcoal grey v neck tee
Dress: Kmart Tropicana sleeveless tiered maxi dress
ShoesNovo Tawny rose gold sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus pearl and rose gold bracelet stack
BagMarc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown

Why I wore it:

This was a very fun day! Took the boys for a very overdue haircut and a tiny trim for myself - I am growing my hair out to donate it again but I need to get better at regularly getting it trimmed so it grows in healthier! After the haircut we wandered through the shopping centre to check out the opshop which was preloved book heaven - tables and tables of books. I tried to quickly browse through and pick up a few from authors I've enjoyed reading already, and the kids got a big book haul too!

Had a wonderful picnic lunch as well, enjoying the summery feel of the day!

The only thing I didn't like about the summer-like spring day was that in an effort to try mix up this dress a little I wore the grey tee over it, and it turned into a much too hot and humid day to have added an extra layer! I did like the outfit, just not so much walking around outside in the heat.

Just like the Rebecca Minkoff small Love bag above, this Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran bag is definitely overdue a wear! I used to have a little collection of Marc by Marc Jacobs bags but this is the only one I have left now - and every time I use it I love it, it was nice to get it out again and I loved how it fit everything including all of our water bottles and some snacks inside. Have been using it more since, it was a good decision to get it out my handbag cupboard for this day!

How You Can Wear It:

A maxi dress is easy to layer up in spring! Try a denim jacket over the top for a cooler day or a simple tee on a warmer day.

2 Ways To Wear Kmart Amber Tiered Midi Dress | Weekday Wear Link Up

Another new purchase from Kmart! This dress was a delayed impulse buy. I'd spotted it on the way out of Kmart with my sister after some birthday present shopping. I kept thinking about it so next time I put in a Kmart order with some things for the boys I added this dress too, as well as a marigold top I've already shared. For the start of spring it works so well with denim jackets!

What I wore:

Kmart amber tiered midi dress for spring with denim jacket and printed scarf nylon backpack | away from blue

amber dress with Rebecca Minkoff Julian nylon backpack in bright blue | awayfromtheblue

awayfromtheblue Instagram | denim jacket orange midi dress and cobalt blue backpack casual spring layers

Jacket: Jeanswest Kitty denim biker jacket
ScarfStella McCartney heart print scarf
DressKmart short sleeve tiered jersey midi dress in amber (new purchase)
ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
BagRebecca Minkoff Julian nylon backpack in bright blue

Why I wore it:

I knew I wanted to wear this scarf with the dress the first time I wore it, the blue heart print works so well with the amber of the dress. It turned into such a warm day and I didn't need both the denim jacket and scarf after school drop off, but since I'd forgotten mozzie repellent for our little walk around our fave trail I decided to keep the jacket on and keep my arms safe from bites! Did end up taking off both the denim jacket and scarf for school pickup though.

As we spent most of the day out on the trail I just used the Rebecca Minkoff Julian backpack as my bag all day. It's a great bag for holding water bottles and snacks for out on the trail. It popped beautifully with the bright blue against the orange dress too.

Last wornmoto denim jacket, heart print scarf, New Balance sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff Julian backpack. First time I've worn the dress as it is a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearmoto denim jacket and florals, heart print scarf with stripes, Rebecca Minkoff Julian backpack with green jeans.

Wardrobe Room Tour & Handbag Storage:

What I wore:

Kmart amber tiered midi dress with converse denim jacket and mini mac bag | away from the blue

Rebecca Minkoff 2012 sky grey mini MAC bag with amber maxi dress | away from blue

Jacket: Bubblegum denim jacket
Necklace: Jeanswest Taryn turquoise tassel bead necklace
DressKmart short sleeve tiered jersey midi dress in amber
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
BagRebecca Minkoff 2012 sky grey mini MAC bag

Why I wore it:

I really liked this outfit, despite the squinting from the sun 😂 Wore this for Father's Day as I was so eager to wear this dress again quite quickly! Stuck with the denim jacket topper, although picked a darker blue one this time, and I really liked this combination. As it was a warmer day I went with the tassel necklace instead of a scarf, and as there were no extra long walks required I picked Converse instead of my walking shoes. I loved the way Converse looks with this dress, I need to wear it again with Converse in the future!

Again I went with a blue bag with this, my little sky grey Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC the boys got me for Mother's Day. Did consider going matchy-matchy with a turquoise bag to match the tassel necklace, but I really liked this greyish blue against the orange dress.

How You Can Wear It:

A bright tiered midi dress is perfect for spring, especially in orange! It's easily layered with a denim jacket - and blue bags are a great accessory choice!
