Layering Maxi Dresses For Spring | Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear link up, I was making the most of spring weather here in Brisbane and layering up my maxi dresses. One on a slightly cooler spring day, and another for a much warmer day that was almost summer-like!

What I wore:

Jeanswest Chantelle blue printed maxi dress with denim jacket and bright accessories peach and magenta for spring | awayfromblue

navy printed maxi dress with Rebecca Minkoff chevron quilted small Love crossbody bag in pale coral | away from blue

awayfromblue Instagram | layering blue printed maxi dress with denim jacket and bright accessories for spring

Earrings: Piper gold heart earrings
Jacket: Jeanswest Kitty denim biker jacket
Necklace: thrifted magenta pink statement beaded necklace
Dress:  Jeanswest 'Chantelle' crochet detail blue printed maxi dress
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs logo plaque flats in camel
BagRebecca Minkoff chevron quilted small Love crossbody bag in pale coral

Why I wore it:

Dressed up a little more than I usually would for a work from home day! This blue printed jersey maxi dress is so incredibly comfortable and was perfect for the school run, sitting at my desk all day, a zoom fashion launch, and taking my son to an appointment in the afternoon. A very busy day! I wanted something bright to wear for the zoom TVSN spring/summer fashion catalogue launch. I've been invited to the events before but it's in another state so I couldn't join. With the restrictions and it being online I was able to join this time! Conveniently over lunchtime, I was able to attend in the middle of the work day and ooh and aah over all the pretty fashion pieces (some very out of my budget though!) before diving back into work.

I like pink with this blue maxi dress but I've never worn this particular magenta necklace with it before, and thought this would be a fun statement piece that was suitably bright for the summery designs we were shown. I really liked the combination, and couldn't resist adding even more colour with the little peach Rebecca Minkoff small love bag. I have paired this bag with pink sandals before and I enjoyed the colours together then too. Plus this bag was overdue a wear!

As it was a little cool for a sleeveless maxi dress, especially for the morning school run and afternoon appointment, I layered the denim jacket on top.

What I wore:

Marc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown | awayfromtheblue

away from blue Instagram | spring maxi dress layered grey v-neck tee layered over Kmart floral maxi dress with carob brown mbmj fran bag

Necklace: thrifted Equip gold and marble station necklace
TeeAtmos&Here charcoal grey v neck tee
Dress: Kmart Tropicana sleeveless tiered maxi dress
ShoesNovo Tawny rose gold sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus pearl and rose gold bracelet stack
BagMarc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown

Why I wore it:

This was a very fun day! Took the boys for a very overdue haircut and a tiny trim for myself - I am growing my hair out to donate it again but I need to get better at regularly getting it trimmed so it grows in healthier! After the haircut we wandered through the shopping centre to check out the opshop which was preloved book heaven - tables and tables of books. I tried to quickly browse through and pick up a few from authors I've enjoyed reading already, and the kids got a big book haul too!

Had a wonderful picnic lunch as well, enjoying the summery feel of the day!

The only thing I didn't like about the summer-like spring day was that in an effort to try mix up this dress a little I wore the grey tee over it, and it turned into a much too hot and humid day to have added an extra layer! I did like the outfit, just not so much walking around outside in the heat.

Just like the Rebecca Minkoff small Love bag above, this Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran bag is definitely overdue a wear! I used to have a little collection of Marc by Marc Jacobs bags but this is the only one I have left now - and every time I use it I love it, it was nice to get it out again and I loved how it fit everything including all of our water bottles and some snacks inside. Have been using it more since, it was a good decision to get it out my handbag cupboard for this day!

How You Can Wear It:

A maxi dress is easy to layer up in spring! Try a denim jacket over the top for a cooler day or a simple tee on a warmer day.

  2. That blue is so pretty on you! Perfect for a Zoom fashion show! I guess that is one of the nice things about this pandemic - we are getting to attend things virtually we wouldn't normally be able to attend. I am still anxious to get back to normal though! Thanks for the link up Mica and I hope your week is off to a great start!

  3. Mica, you wear maxi dresses so well! I love the prints on both of these and I am always a fan of a moto jacket with a dress. I am loving the color of your jacket! And I really need to try layering sweaters or tees on top of dresses for a unique look. I love that!

  7. This reminds me that I need to get Jona in for a haircut too! Where does the time go? I love these looks--that first one is my favorite, just because I adore that jacket and the color of the necklace with that dress. Everything about it is so pretty!

  8. I love how orange and blue came together in that first outfit! That blue maxi is perfect for you! How fun that you were able to join a lunchtime fashion event. That's the thing about zoom and other training and events, they are just much more accessible to everyone these days. Have a great week!

  10. I really like the second look: the bright print is so pretty! And love the statement necklace with it. I have been giving the 3 youngest boys haircuts for the past 3 months in a attempt to save some money: prices have gone up and with a tip, it is just too much when I can do a decent job.

  13. Mica, you look amazing in both outfits! I have a maxi that's kinda in the same color fam as the maxi you wore with the denim jacket. I think I'm going to do a shoot of it soon. I visited the hairdresser after the longest time and found out my hair has evolved to become thinner in texture. My hairdresser said it's normal as we age. Hahah. I've always wanted soft hair so I don't mind it. She told me to come for regular trims if I want to grow out my hair. I got layers done and I'm glad that the bulk of my hair is no longer there as it's super hot here these days! :D I love the second outfit too. The floral skirt just pops out with the grey top :D

  14. Love both of your looks with printed maxi dresses, Mica! A zoom fashion show sounds like so much fun, a nice treat to break up the work day. I have learned to cut my husband's hair with the clippers during Covid, and it is coming out pretty well with practice. My own self hair cuts, though-yikes! I could use a professional as soon as the salons open back up.

  25. The first outfit is my fave - these blues look so good on you, Mica! I really like how the peach and pinks pop off the blue too - a great combination of colours. In the second outfit, frankly, the grey tee looks dingy beside the vibrant colours of the dress, and I'm not sure that the brown bag works with all of it - it's a gorgeous colour and a lovely bag, but maybe not with grey? Regardless, I love your accessorizing in that outfit with the necklace and metallic shoes (well done!).

Aw, good for you for growing your hair for donation again! Glad you restocked on your books! I have bags of them to donate, but am waiting for the pick-up service to resume as I don't have a car.

  26. I love both looks here, Mica. If I hadn't seen the title of your post, the second outfit could very well have been a maxi skirt and tee, but since I know it's a maxi dress I'm hearing you on it being too warm for that almost summery day. I love the denim jacket worn over your first maxi dress, but most of all, I'm swooning over that gorgeous magenta necklace! Wishing you a lovely week ahead, Mica! xxx
