Today I'm posting what I wore back at the start of December, as well as some Boxing Day sale codes! For two different Christmas events I went with a classic wardrobe staple for me, a maxi dress. I added a kimono on top for something a little different.
What I wore:
Earrings: Kmart mustard gold tassel earrings
Jacket: New Look Petite print kimonoDress: Jeanswest 'Sierra' embellished black maxi dress (on sale!)
Shoes: Balenciaga studded sandals in sorbet RGGH
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff chevron quilted small Love crossbody bag in pale coral
Why I wore it:
Wore this for a very fun night out with some of the mums I met through ABA (Australian Breastfeeding Association). It was our annual Christmas night out, with secret Santa gifts exchanged and a lot of good food eaten. So much good food in fact that they gave us all little containers to take the leftovers home with us and I had enough for dinner the next night, ha!Wasn't sure what to wear so I went with a classic black maxi dress. I like that this has a bit of embellishment so it seems a little more dressed up, but for accessories I wasn't sure what to add. Decided to leave it to the last minute to pick accessories and after a busy day of working from home and then rushing to get my son to his appointment and back before dinner...I ended up throwing on a little bit of everything! Pink studded Balenciaga sandals, mustard tassel earrings, a navy kimono and the little peach Rebecca Minkoff love bag.
While nothing matched I liked all the colours with the maxi dress and really enjoyed this outfit in the end! The kimono was a nice light cover against the breeze plus a stretchy maxi dress is just what you need for a delicious feast!
Last worn: navy kimono, tassel earrings, embellished maxi dress, Balenciaga studded sandals, Rebecca Minkoff small Love bag in coral.
Other ways to wear: navy kimono and shorts, embellished maxi dress for Christmas, Balenciaga studded sandals and matching bag, Rebecca Minkoff small Love bag in coral with jeans.
Perfect for pregnancy: navy kimono in third trimester, embellished maxi dress at 39 weeks, Balenciaga studded sandals in second trimester.

Dress: Jeanswest 'Chantelle' crochet detail blue printed maxi dress
Shoes: black slim Havaianas thongs

Why I wore it:
While I didn't wear this to attend a Christmas party, it was the boy's first event of the Christmas season so I felt I should dress up a little for it. We headed out for a Frozen themed party at the local indoor playground. This blue maxi dress with the white kimono seemed like a good idea to match the colour scheme, although I did add the turquoise necklace and little green Rebecca Minkoff mini 5 zip bag to break it up the blue and white a little and stop it looking too costume-y. I didn't get a chance to compliment the other mum I saw in a blue printed maxi dress, but seeing her made me feel I'd picked the right outfit!Felt comfortable for this for the entire party, even if I did feel a bit overdressed running errands and getting groceries the morning before the party. It was such a hot day too! I was very thankful the indoor play area had the aircon running, especially when the boys got me up to dance with Elsa!
I should have got a photo of the back of this outfit - the crochet back on the kimono showed off the crochet back of the maxi dress nicely I thought.
Last worn: crochet kimono, blue printed maxi dress, turquoise tassel necklace, Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff mini 5 zip bag.
Other ways to wear: crochet kimono and shorts, blue printed maxi dress layered for a rainy day, Rebecca Minkoff mini 5 zip bag and jeans.
Perfect for pregnancy: blue printed maxi dress in third trimester.

How You Can Wear It:
A maxi dress is a staple "I don't know what to wear" piece in my wardrobe - perfect for a grown up dinner or an afternoon dancing around with kids to the Frozen soundtrack! A kimono can add a little extra colour to your outfit, or just provide an extra layer of sun protection on a hot day or breeze on a cooler evening.Linking up with Fancy Friday, Lizzie In Lace, Red Carpet Style, On Mondays We Link Up, Mutton Style.

Some days it sure is difficult to take my outfit pictures especially on break when we are out of our regular routine! Love those orange accents in that first outfit!

Love these dress outfits.
ReplyDeleteHaha same here! I love having a backlog of outfits except for holiday outfits because it feels odd posting them late!

It's so funny as I can post a month behind without thinking about it for the rest of the year, haha!
DeleteI'm the same, as I'm always behind with posting as well. And like you it doesn't normally bother me, but thought it a bit awkward to post Christmas outfits too long after the event. Anyway, I'm loving your black maxi dress, with the colour injection of both your kimono and bag. Fabulous! The blue printed maxi is lovely too, especially combined with the lace trimmed kimono! Hope you're having a wonderful last weekend of the year! xxx
ReplyDeleteYes I'm hoping to finish all my Christmas outfits by mid January, eek! haha!
DeleteIt is always so exciting to get glammed up for special holiday events! Both looks are beautiful but the first is my favourite. The earrings you wore to the ABA holiday dinner are so incredible.

Great outfits! I love my maxi dresses and they work so well for both warm days and cool days. You did a wonderful job with your accessories. I don't wear earrings, but those mustard ones are perfect. I hope you had a very Merry Christmas. - Amy

I think vlogs are even harder - so much time needed to edit!
DeleteI love that you have a group of moms and you do a holiday night out - that's such a brilliant idea! And I love what you wore for it - a black maxi is always such a classic choice. And your outfit for the Frozen themed event was pretty on point (I can't wait to watch those movies with Eleanor).

What a gorgeous maxi dress! Sounds like you had some good days!
ReplyDeleteI've really gotten into maxi dresses year this year, most likely because there FINALLY seems to be an increase in petite options available. I also love that they automatically look like you've made an effort and you can dress them up or down!
ReplyDeleteMusings & More
Yes! Although neither of these are petite they luckily fit - I do have a few petite ones in my wardrobe!
DeleteI love that you got up and danced with Elsa! That dress is perfect for a Frozen party color scheme!
ReplyDeleteI'll do anything to make the kids happy, haha! They thought it was the best thing ever!
DeleteLove both maxi dresses:) The Balenciaga sandals are super cute too!
ReplyDeleteHope you and the whole fam had an awesome Christmas. I heard it's super hot there right now, so hope you are all keeping cool:)

I am a big fan of maxi dresses. They are so easy to style and definitely a staple in my closet. Love both your maxi dresses and your accessories especially those mustard tassel earrings. I have been so behind on my posts because it has been a crazy busy season. I am working on catching up with reading my fave blogger posts. Enjoy the rest of your holiday break and would like to take this opportunity to wish you an amazing 2020.

Love that cute white kimono! Hope you had a lovely Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about posting something you've already done a week later (or more). My posts are so far behind :/ I'll be posting a couple of my pictures with Christmassy backgrounds in a little bit (hopefully later today but I have no idea how full today is going to be). I love both of your outfits! I have a few maxis and I just don't think to put them on (dressing up at work would just be weird and I'd ruin something I loved and I try not to over-do it just shopping for groceries and heading out for dinner I'm usually in a rush to dress and go). Your black maxi has given me an idea for one I found in my closet the other day that I was afraid I'd given away. And the pieces you've used to accessorize actually look (in the pictures) like they're all from the same color family. And the second look for a Frozen party I think is perfect! Isn't the color theme for Frozen blue and white? I'm surprised there weren't more moms dressed in a blue and white theme. You look just gorgeous in both! My Christmas Eve was busy with getting the house ready for 7 family members to come over for a late lunch and do presents. Christmas was quiet, though, and that was really nice. I love having the two days off in the middle of the week - I could get used to it. I'm glad you've had a full and wonderful season and I hope your 2020 is just as amazing.

I'm glad I could give you an idea for how to wear your black maxi! :) So nice to hear you had a wonderful Christmas too! :)
DeleteI know what you mean about feeling awkward posting holiday outfits after the fact! But in this case, I think these outfits are versatile enough to work for many occasions! Love the pretty detailing on your black maxi in particular!
ReplyDeleteYes I could definitely wear these any time of year! :)
DeleteI just love the first maxi dress you wore for your dinner with ABA. I think a black maxi is a great choice when you don't know what to wear. That black maxi looked great on you and I like how you dressed it up with those statement earrings. Lovely bag as well. You looked very chic in that first look, it was such an elegant combo for dinner.
ReplyDeleteThe second outfit with the blue maxi is lovely as well. I really like the white kimono you paired it with. You look fresh and pretty here!
I'm happy to hear you had a nice Christmas. My holidays are going pretty well too.

Really like both these outfits because of the color combinations and the maxi dresses. I particularly like the color of the bag in the second outfit, what a pretty jade green!
ReplyDeleteIt is such a stunning bag in person - so glad I bought it! :)
DeleteBoth looks so cute on you. The first one is definitely my fave. Love the pop of color from the bag!
