30 Ways To Wear a Classic Camel Trench Coat #30wears Challenge

For this month's 30 wears challenge I'm sharing another wardrobe classic, my camel trench coat. It's a must have piece for the cooler weather!

Each month I look through the blog archives and find something I've worn 30 times or more to create this wrap up post showing you 30 ways you can wear a similar piece from your own wardrobe. Inspired by the 30 wears challenge I heard about in The True Cost documentary. It's a challenge to slow your shopping by ensuring each piece you buy will be worn 30 times or more and to reduce the environmental impact of fashion.

30 Ways To Wear: Camel Trench Coat

This trench coat hit 30 wears quite quickly - I don't have a lot of winter coats in my wardrobe so this is worn at least once a week to the office in winter, and on colder spring and autumn days. Unlike in the northern hemisphere where a trench is more of a spring or autumn piece, this cotton twill fully lined trench coat is thick and cosy and perfect for a Brisbane winter!

Cost Per Wear

Worn more than 60 times on the blog I really wish I could remember the price I paid for it to calculate cost per wear. I remember buying it on sale at the outlets when shopping with my mum - it was massively reduced, definitely under $50, as it was out of season and one of the buttons was falling off. I bought it and set it aside for the next winter (after my mum fixed one of the buttons!). I had it before my blog, so more than 8 years ago. Given that I've had it more than 8 years and worn it faithfully every winter, I'm sure it's less than the '$1 per wear' figure most people aim for to get value for money. I'm really pleased with this purchase and don't see me getting rid of this coat any time soon!

Camel Trench Coat With Burgundy

You'll see a few go-to colour combinations come up in this post! While camel is a great neutral and goes with every colour in my wardrobe, there are a few colour combinations I repeatedly try with this trench. Burgundy is one of them. While I love my burgundy pants with the camel coat, I do like other burgundy pieces like a scarf or dress.

Tench Coat with Monochrome Black Outfits

Black and camel is another frequently worn combination. While I have added in some other colours to these outfits with accessories, the outfits themselves are monochrome black. Classic little black dresses or a black top and pencil skirt together, a camel trench coat is a great topper with a monochromatic black outfit.

Camel Trench Coat and Jeans

While I wear my camel trench coat frequently to the office with more formal outfits, it also looks great worn more casually with jeans. You can see a couple of the outfits here are older ones as I last wore blue jeans 2 years ago! Any colour of denim looks great with this neutral camel trench coat though.

Trench Coat and Printed Outfits

Of course, being a classic neutral shade, a camel trench coat works with all kinds of printed outfits. it's the perfect neutral topper to a colourful print mixing outfit, or an easy choice with a printed dress!

Camel Trench Coat and Sheath Dresses

I love a good sheath dress for the office, but all the ones I have are short sleeved or sleeveless. This trench coat is great topper for cooler weather, it keeps me warm and works perfectly with the prints on the dresses, no matter how bold they are! Just like with the other printed outfit options above. A sheath dress and a trench coat is staple formal office style.

Trench Coat and Pencil Skirts

Another work outfit option, a pencil skirt pairs equally as well with a trench coat as the dresses above. You can go with a classic black one, or have a little more fun with colourful printed or textured pencil skirts. It's the best neutral outfit topper no matter what skirt you wear. This trench coat really does go with everything!

Striped Tops, Skinny Jeans, Scarves and Rebecca Minkoff MAB

A brief period of warmer weather near the end of winter last month had me ditching some of the layers and going without a jacket or cardigan. Still with longer sleeves though! These striped 3/4 length sleeve tops were overdue a wear.

A stripes and denim outfit combination is always a winner, and great for stay at home mum days.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

This top has been badly overlooked all winter - it's a favourite for me, it's nice and thick and so cosy on the cooler days. I decided to let the top be the star and keep everything else neutral, with the grey skinny jeans, grey Rebecca Minkoff MAB bag and my fun grey feather embroidered scarf.

I couldn't decide what shoes to wear with this until I remembered my little red suede ballet flats. I love these shoes but so rarely wear them as I tend to go for neutral shoes instead. Even though the red of the shoes is a different shade from the burgundy stripes on the tee, I thought it was a fun combination and really enjoyed wearing this! Simple outfit for a day with the boys, running a few errands and visiting the library and playground.

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a busy morning! Swimming lessons, attending the Lion King Ooshies swap day and then an appointment, all before lunch, phew! Wanted something simple so went with this classic striped Henley and my green skinny jeans. I like navy with these green jeans, and the stripes go so well with it. Added in a bolder bright blue with the cosy cobalt Louis Vuitton shawl too, which helped keep me warm in the cooler morning before the temperatures heated up.

With the bright scarf and jeans together, I went with a neutral bag and shoes. These silver ballet flats go with everything and the Rebecca Minkoff MAB bag in grey is a wardrobe staple, which was big enough to fit my things in, some things for the boys and of course our Lion King toys for the swap day.

The swap day was a little hectic, but I thought it would be fun for the boys to go to swap some of the extra toys they had after they completed their collection. They swapped with others to pick some new toys for them to play with and to let the others complete their collections. I was proud of how they behaved and shared and swapped. They came home and immediately started playing 'swap day' with the toys they had so I know they enjoyed the experience!

How You Can Wear It:

A striped top with longer sleeves is great for days when you don't need or want an extra jacket or cardigan over the top. You can keep it simple and wear a bright striped top with neutral jeans, or add more colour with some bright jeans instead. Either way, you can't go wrong with a classic stripes and jeans combo!

Weekday Wear Link Up: Printed Sheath Dresses and Colourful Cardigans

For this weeks Weekday Wear link up I'm wearing my favourite printed sheath dresses with some cosy cardigans to make some colourful corporate style outfits.

Why I wore it:

It was such a warm day when I wore this - a little teaser of the upcoming summer heat before the Ekka winds set in the next day and cooled things in Brisbane right down back to winter temps! I went out during my lunch break at work to run a few errands and actually regretted the cardigan! My plan had been to belt it in place but I knew I'd probably have to take it off at some point with the summer temps, so left it unbelted so I could do so.

You've seen me wear yellow with this dress before - often in smaller doses like a yellow necklace or scarf. I thought I'd be a bit bolder this time and pair the orange printed sheath dress with the mustard yellow cardigan. I really liked this outfit, perfect for a busy day at work and a little time outside in the sunshine at lunch time. The ankle boots kept my bare legs cosy on the cooler morning, it quickly warmed up anyway.

With the summery citrus toned outfit, the Louis Vuitton neverfull bag seemed like the perfect choice!

Why I wore it:

This outfit was worn on a more winter like day, so followed the same outfit formula as the first, but with a few more layers. I really like blue and purple together so I was surprised to see I hadn't worn this purple cardigan with the blue paisley print sheath dress before! It's such a great combination.

I needed to be just a little bit warmer though, so added my cosy fleece-lined tights, as well as my purple Marc Jacobs blanket scarf. This scarf is such a stunning piece, and even though it has a print it's subtle enough that it looks nice worn with the paisley dress. It's not an exact match to the cardigan, but I did like the two different purple shades together. The Louis Vuitton Neverfull adds more print to the outfit, but I see this bag as a neutral and will wear it with any print!

With all the colour and print, a classic black pair of ballet flats seemed like the best shoe option. Super comfortable too!

Spring / Summer Haul! What I Bought In August

After a successful no buy July last month (5th year in a row!) I went just a little overboard this month and bought quite a lot! Most of it was pre-loved though so not too much of a hit on the budget!

August is the last month of winter here in Australia but I'm already thinking of spring and summer and so bought some light weight scarves for layering on cooler days, along with a LOT of tees and maxi skirts. Oh and a new bag too 😂 You know you've gone overboard when you can't fit all the things you bought in the video thumbnail pic!

Why I Bought It:

After catching up with Jess and seeing one of the new Fashion Scarf Girl scarves in person, I had to put in an order! You might recall I was a brand rep for the company last year - but these scarves I bought myself, as I do only collaborate with companies I'd spend money on! I thought they'd be the perfect light layer for the upcoming spring (just a few days away!).

The bag was something I could not get out of my head. I'd put an offer in on it before when I had an ebay voucher but it was rejected, so I decided it wasn't meant to be. I kept it in my watch list though and after seeing it consistently relisted for a few weeks I caved, upped my offer and bought it in mid August when I had another ebay voucher. So happy with it. And still so confused as to how or why these ebay vouchers appear!

The kimono was another purchase I'd been eyeing for a while, when a 40% off sale at Jeanswest came along at the end of August I snapped it up!

The opshop haul is a big one! It was a fill a bag for $5 sale and I may have went overboard - but all these pieces are things I see myself wearing a lot in the months to come. Even if I did question my sanity a little when I realised out of the 5 maxi skirts I tried on I wanted to take 4 home with me....

How I've Worn It:

With my big opshop haul coming mid August, and filling my $5 bag with so many clothes, I was doubtful I'd hit the "wear everything twice in the month I buy it" rule that I set myself. I made a good attempt at it though, and give myself a pass there as I honestly wasn't expecting to have so much good luck at the opshop! I wasn't going to put things I loved back if I was paying the same price for the bag no matter how much was inside it!

In saying the above though, I'm also not expecting to shop much more the next few months, I have plenty of new to me things to wear and I feel stocked up for spring and summer! The pieces I bought have been perfect for our warmer end to winter too.

Layering Up Sundresses With Knotted Knits In Winter

These adorable Kmart strappy tiered sundresses from the past two summers are so perfect for the summer heat and humidity in Brisbane. I've layered them up a little for autumn and spring before, but decided to take advantage of some warmer winter days to wear them with more layers! Using my go-to petite style hack of knotting a jumper over a dress to create these outfits.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

This cute grey knit, a $1 opshop buy at the start of the year, is a longer length with an uneven hem. It means there is a lot of it to tie up when I want to knot it over a dress, but I think it makes the knot more of a feature. Just like last time I knotted this knit, I really liked this outfit! I think the grey knit paired so nicely with the black tiered sundress, and the tan boots were a cosy and comfortable option.

The outfit felt a little too neutral so I added the fun red Rebecca Minkoff micro Avery tote bag for a touch of colour. I think it was the perfect finishing touch!

It was great to be wearing something I felt happy and comfortable in because I stopped to take these photos on the way to church, at a spot I'd been driving by for a few weeks and thinking how good it would be to take photos there. I hopped out the car, setup the tripod and then a car drove by...and another, and another. Turns out the "little side road" I'd seen actually had a very busy gym in the middle of it and it must have been near the time classes started or finished. I'm awkward enough in public when someone else is taking my photo, it felt even weirder just being there with my tripod! I couldn't pack everything back in the car quick enough, haha!

Why I wore it:

Although this outfit follows the same formula as the one above, just a more colourful version, I didn't like this one as much. I think possibly because this knit wasn't knotted as tightly and looks a bit more relaxed and slouchy. Being petite, it helps to tie it in a fixed line and have a more defined waist. It looks okay, just not as good as I imagined in my head when I thought up the outfit!

As it was a warmer day, I skipped the fleece-lined tights I'd worn above and just wore leggings and my fun sparkly Kmart glitter sneakers. I even considered going without the leggings and having bare legs, but in the shade at the playground I was glad I'd picked the leggings!

Added a little more colour to this already colourful dress by matching the blush floral print to the pink tassel necklace and Rebecca Minkoff Darren messenger bag. The bag is one I've worn with this dress in the past, I just love the combination.

A pretty tiered sundress isn't just for summer! You can add more warmth to a spaghetti strap dress with a cosy knit on top, tied at the waist to give your outfit a little more definition. It's a great option for a warmer winter day when you don't need a lot of extra layers.

Weekday Wear Linkup! Grey Knits With Extra Details, Pencil Skirts and Chloe Paddington Bag

For today's Weekday Wear Linkup I'm sharing some more office wear, easy outfits for winter. Just a grey knit (with a little extra detail), a black pencil skirt, bright scarf and my forever classic Chloe Paddington bag.

Why I wore it:

A slightly warmer winter morning after a rather cold snap meant I pulled out my cheeriest scarf! This big yellow blanket scarf is one I sometimes think is too big for my petite frame. I've even considered chopping it in half before! But I can't deny that whenever I wear it it makes me smile, it's so bold and colourful. Was the perfect touch of colour with my otherwise neutral outfit.

The embellished grey knit is a wardrobe oldie too, it's so good with a pencil skirt to the office. I tend not to wear it on days at home with the boys much as I'm worried the little beads would soon fall off after a lot of tugging from a curious toddler....much more suited to time in the office with grown ups!

Felt like taking my Chloe Paddington out for another spin. It's a much treasured piece in my wardrobe, my first ever luxury handbag purchase, and despite it being the heaviest bag I own I just can't part with it. Chloe have even reinterpreted the padlock design recently, but nothing beats the original!

Why I wore it:

Another cosy and comfortable grey knit with a black pencil skirt for the office - if something works, why not repeat it! This time around the casual grey knit has a little extra detail in the form of foil polka dots! I do wear this knit on my stay at home mum days, but it also works well in the office.

I thought this blue tartan scarf would be a fun burst of colour with the black and grey, and while the jumper does have polka dots on it I thought it was subtle enough to be able to wear the tartan print with it. Again, I took my Chloe Paddington bag. I promptly put it back in its dustbag on its storage shelf when I got home though - I can only carry a bag this heavy so many times! And to think, before kids, at the height of the Paddington craze, I used to wear one (of 5 different ones I had!!) almost every day! 😅

Two Ways To Wear Leopard Print Tees: Matching Bags To Your Top

In further proof that I may take the outfit formula thing too far some days, and keep wearing the same thing over and over, I'm wearing the same necklace in both outfits! I did wear these a couple weeks apart though.

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a family movie date. I really love this Sass & Bide neon orange leopard print tee, but it's quite a statement piece and so one I only wear sparingly. Which is silly really, I should wear the things I enjoy more often!

Jeans and a tee was the perfect comfortable outfit for taking the kids to the movies - and the cosy wool maxi cardigan, while ideal for the cold air conditioning in the cinema, was actually a bit warm for being out in the sun, it was a beautiful winter day. But it was also the day we had set aside for the movies, so indoors we stayed!

Since I realised my new smaller wallet fits inside this Rebecca Minkoff small love bag, I've been wearing it a lot more. I noticed it was the perfect shade to compliment the neon leopard print of the tee, as although it's officially "pale coral" it's really more of a peach.

The grey wool maxi cardigan, skinny jeans and silver ballet flats with nice neutrals with all of the orange.

Why I wore it:

Following the outfit formula above, I wore this Kmart grey leopard print tee with a matching grey bag, the Rebecca Minkoff love bag in the regular size.

Again I went with neutral jeans, black Nobody denim skinny jeans, and instead of ballet flats I wore Converse as I was spending the morning at the playground, catching up with Jess who I met on Instagram.

With all of the grey and black together I wanted to add just a little more colour, so wore my fun mustard cardigan that, like the tee, was a $2 bargain. It was so funny that Jess was wearing mustard too! We had a fun chat as the boys played together, before I had to go grab some groceries for lunch and get back for the guys working on our solar power system.
