Linen Shorts With Embroidered Tanks and White Cover Ups

Loving the Brisbane weather that meant I could still get some wear from these linen shorts I thrifted last year well into autumn! This time around I wore them with embroidered tanks and white cover ups, for a couple of days back in the Easter school holidays.

What I wore:

Jacket:  Shein lace trimmed crochet inset white kimono c/o
Tank: Target embroidered khaki tank
Shorts: thrifted Kmart cumin linen blend pull on shorts
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff medium unlined tote in black with shellac studded dome hardware

Why I wore it:

Sometimes I like showing off the cuter paper bag waist on these linen shorts, like I did last time I wore them. Other times I like pairing them with voluminous tops and hiding the waistband for a completely different look. I thought I'd be brave and try orange and green together - this olive embroidered tank was perfect with the orange linen shorts, I liked the way it draped. I did have to add a cover up on top as it was a little cold for bare arms and legs, so I went with this neutral white one.

Stuck with a big neutral bag too, this black Rebecca Minkoff tote had snacks and water bottles for a family fun day event with the kids, which we all really enjoyed.

What I wore:

Jacket: thrifted Kmart black and white embellished cover up
NecklaceTiffany & Co pink double heart tag pendant necklace
TankSass and Bide 'Musical Genius' tank
Shorts: thrifted Kmart fuchsia linen blend shorts
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff medium unlined tote in black with shellac studded dome hardware

Why I wore it:

This followed the same outfit formula as the one above, with this neon embroidered Sass and Bide tank paired with these fuchsia pink linen shorts. I thought the matching pinks were a fun combination, although when I looked back at the photos I wasn't too sure the embroidery on the white cover yup worked as well as I hoped with the print on the tank.

It was a much needed practical choice though. We had booked the kids in for a messy play morning but just as we were about to leave we got a call that it had been cancelled, and we decided to head out to the park instead, and treat ourselves to some lunch. Not quite the fun day we had planned, but a pretty good alternative. It was a really sunny day so I was very glad for this cover up over my shoulders!

Last worn: embroidered cover up, Tiffany necklace, Sass and Bide tank, fuchsia linen shorts, New Balance sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff unlined tote (above).

Other ways to wearembroidered cover up and denim shorts, Sass and Bide tank and maxi skirt, fuchsia linen shorts and stripes, Rebecca Minkoff unlined tote and denim.

Perfect for pregnancySass and Bide tank in second trimester.

Matching Handbags With Prints, Denim Skirts And Tees | Weekday Wear Link Up

I was eager to wear my two new-to-me thrifted cover ups right away! Both featuring busy, colourful prints I decided to wear them with simple tees and denim skirts, and match my handbags to the colours in the prints.

What I wore:

Cotton On maroon wanderlust floral border cover up with purple tee white denim skirt playdate outfit | awayfromtheblue

Rebecca Minkoff MAB crossbody with studs in desert rose | awayfromblue

Jacket: thrifted Cotton On maroon wanderlust floral border cover up (new opshop find)
Necklace: thrifted metallic clay bead necklace (new opshop find)
TeeAtmos&Here rolled sleeve oversized tee in wine
Skirt: Target classic denim skirt in white
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB crossbody with studs in desert rose

Why I wore it:

When I spotted this cover up in the racks at the opshop I thought it looked so familiar - I have the exact same one in a navy print! Had to get this maroon one too. I thought of wearing it with this purple tee right away. While it doesn't match the print as well as I thought it would, with the tee being more purple and the background being more maroon, I really liked the two pieces together. The white denim skirt was an easy matchy-matchy choice, along with this Rebecca Minkoff desert rose studded MAB crossbody bag that matches the peach in the leaf print really well I felt.

Loved the colours in this outfit, and it was nice and light for a very fun school holiday playdate at the park with the kids on such a sunny day.

Last worn: purple tee, white denim skirt, Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff studded MAB crossbody bag. First time I've worn the printed cover up and beaded necklace on the blog as they are both recent opshop finds.

Other ways to wearpurple tee and jeans, white denim skirt with pink, Rebecca Minkoff studded MAB crossbody bag and floral dress.

Perfect for pregnancypurple tee in second trimester.

More Ways To Wear Colourful Handbags:

What I wore:

thrifted outfit zig zag printed cover up matching aqua bag distressed denim skirt white tee | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather | awayfromtheblue

Jacket: thrifted Cotton On navy zig zag cover up (new opshop find)
Necklace: thrifted flat navy statement bead necklace
TeeCotton On The One Deep V tee in marle nep white body black
SkirtNobody Denim Piper vacation skirt in black distressed denim
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather

Why I wore it:

I have quote a lot of blue based cover ups in my wardrobe, but I could not resist this one when I saw it on the racks at the opshop! I knew with the turquoise in the print it would be so fun to wear with some of the turquoise accessories in my wardrobe. Although this little aqua mini MAC bag didn't quite pull out the colour from the print as much as I hoped it would, I really like the extra colour it added to this outfit.

The necklace was a find on the same opshop trip! I have a few of these flat beaded necklaces now, and with blue being my favourite colour, this one is quickly becoming a staple. It was a perfect match with the print and I liked the navy together with the black distressed denim skirt.

Nice and easy outfit for the school run and working from home.

Last worn: white tee, distressed denim skirt, New Balance sneakers, aqua mini MAC bag. First time I've worn the navy cover up and the navy flat bead necklace as they are both recent opshop finds.

Other ways to wearwhite tee and jeans, distressed denim skirt and sequins, aqua mini MAC bag and maxi dress.

Perfect for pregnancyaqua mini MAC bag in second trimester.

What I Bought In April And How I've Worn It: Thrift Haul

After not buying anything in the first two months of the year, I've been adding a lot of items to my wardrobe recently, with quite a few purchases in March, and now a little thrift haul in April!

Here's what I bought in April:

  • thrifted Cotton On maroon wanderlust floral border cover up
  • thrifted Cotton On navy zig zag cover up
  • thrifted Dotti black cocoon cape cardigan
  • thrifted metallic clay bead necklace
  • thrifted flat peach statement bead necklace
  • thrifted flat navy statement bead necklace

Despite picking up a LOT of necklaces in March, I was once again drawn to the accessories section of the opshop this month and picked up a few more necklaces! I couldn't resist these 3 necklaces, having and wearing similar pieces in my wardrobe so often already.

The cover ups and the cosy cardigan were such good finds at just $1 each. I picked up quite a few different cover ups as I browsed the racks, and put all but these back. I did pick up a few back in March last month too, but I'd been overhauling the kimono section of my wardrobe so I felt I had room for these pieces. Plus I already own the blue version of the floral border print one, had to get the maroon one too as soon as I saw it!

I had a stall at the Glad Rags Markets at Bulimba to sell a few things from my wardrobe and for a friend in April too. It was really fun but I was so busy with my stall and focusing on reducing what I took home, that I didn't get to browse the other stalls as I'd hoped to, so surprisingly no purchases there. I did have a lot of fun shopping at a previous market though! I've got a stall lined up again for later in May so we will see if I find time to take a look at what others are selling and come home with any wardrobe additions then. 😉

How I've Worn It:

With autumn weather arriving, these cover ups have come in perfect for the cooler mornings. I've even managed to wear the cosy black cocoon knit twice. I set myself a goal of wearing everything I buy twice in the month I wear it, to make sure it all works for me and my wardrobe, as everything I bought this month did. Even managed to get 3 wears from the navy flat bead necklace too, can see that becoming a staple in my wardrobe!

Yearly Fashion Spend To Date:

Continuing to stick with my wardrobe goals of shopping second hand more this year, and trying to buy less, I've only spent $61 on fashion this year so far. Really pleased with the progress, even though it feels like I'm adding a lot of the same things to my wardrobe (mostly different cover ups and necklaces) I feel I'm really buying things that work for me and my current style.

Pink and Turquoise Outfits With Denim Skirts and Balenciaga City Bag

Some colourful pink and turquoise outfits I wore recently. Pairing my recently thrifted cover ups with a couple of classic Target denim skirts.

What I wore:

EarringsA Little Bit of North blue mandala earrings
Jacket: thrifted no label tropical print tassel cover up
Necklace: Jeanswest Taryn turquoise tassel bead necklace
Tank: Jeanswest Maji metallic tank in soft green and silver
Skirt: thrifted Target black stretch denim skirt
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet

Why I wore it:

The perfect comfy Sunday outfit! A simple tank, denim skirt, Superstar sneakers, and a very cute and colourful cover up. We had a quiet morning, and in the afternoon headed out to a mum's group event at a café we hadn't been to before. We will definitely be back, I enjoyed the location and conversation and the kids loved all of the fun things to explore.

With this bright cover up, I went a little matchy-matchy with the turquoise tassel necklace. The blue earrings hadn't been worn in a while and were also a good match to the blue in the print. Last time I wore this cover up I paired it with pink, so I picked a bright pink bag, this Balenciaga sorbet city, which I absolutely loved the colour combination of. Handy for all our water bottles when we went out too!

Last worn: blue earrings, printed tassel trim cover up, metallic tank, tassel necklace, black denim skirt, Adidas Superstar sneakers, Balenciaga sorbet city bag.

Other ways to wearprinted tassel trim cover up and white denim, metallic tank and printed shorts, black denim skirt and printed tee, Adidas Superstar sneakers and floral dress, Balenciaga sorbet city bag worn 30 ways.

Why I wore it:

Again with the turquoise and pink! I really love this combination, and the cover up makes it so easy to wear that combination, having both the colours in the print! Wore another classic target denim skirt, a white one this time, and a brighter tank, this turquoise one that was overdue a wear. I really like how bright this outfit was. I stuck with comfortable sneakers as after the school run and working from home we had a couple of errands to run.

I got to surprise my son at his event at school in the afternoon by wrapping up work a little early. Wearing this bright outfit he certainly couldn't miss me standing on the side-lines! The gold glitter earrings were a fun neutral with all that colour, and this nude necklace seemed the best choice to pair with the bright colours.

Last worn: palm print cover up, gold glitter earrings, wood and clay necklace, turquoise tank, white Target denim skirt, Sketchers, Balenciaga sorbet city (above).

Pink, Prints and Tank Outfits

Sharing two skirt outfits I wore recently with a few of my new purchases in March. Both have a pop of pink and some prints, but very different formulas and colours.

What I wore:

turquoise tropical print cover up with hot pink singlet and white denim skirt outfit | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather

Jacket: thrifted no label tropical print tassel cover up (new purchase)
Necklace: thrifted multi strand multi colour disc bead necklace with tassels
 (new purchase)
TankAsos satin singlet in pink
Skirt: Target classic denim skirt in white
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather (get it in pink)

Why I wore it:

I found this cover up on the scarf rack at the opshop! I loved the colours and tassels. It was as I pulled it off the scarf hook I realised it was actually a cover up - and so was definitely coming home with me! Such a fun and colourful piece, and just $1! I was thinking about a nice neutral top to pair with it when I saw this hot pink satin tank in my wardrobe and realised it would look great with the turquoise. There is a bit of purple and red in the print, but no pink. I still think the hot pink and turquoise really popped together!

The neutral white denim skirt, another of my March buys, was a perfect pairing with all of that colour. And I couldn't resist going a little matchy-matchy with my accessories - the aqua mini MAC bag matching the turquoise in the print, and the tassel necklace matching the tassels on the hem.

Nice and colourful for a regular day with the school run, working from home, and a couple of errands.

Last worn: pink satin tank, white denim skirt, Havaianas, aquamarine mini MAC bag. First time I've worn the cover up and the tassel necklace as they are recent opshop finds.

Other ways to wearpink satin tank and jeans, white denim skirt and green duster, aquamarine mini MAC bag with orange skirt.

Perfect for pregnancyaquamarine mini MAC bag in third trimester.

My Rebecca Minkoff Collection:

Tank: Jeanswest Maji metallic tank in soft green and silver
Skirt: Target animal print ruffle hem mini skirt
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff prune MAC with pom pom and tassel keychain

Why I wore it:

This was another very rare kid-free day off! I have had a few more lately as I worked a few weekends and earned that time off during the week. After taking the kids to school I had time for a little opshop browse (where I got the pieces in the outfit above) and I spent some time with my mum before we picked up the kids from school in the afternoon.

I wanted to wear this cute leopard print skirt I got from Target again. I really like pink and leopard together, I wore this skirt with pink last time I wore it too. The magenta Rebecca Minkoff MAC bag was a deeper pink with it, and I really liked it. The silver tank felt a little plain though, so I added this black statement necklace which matched the black in the leopard print and I think it really completed the outfit.

Last worn: silver tank, statement wooden necklace, leopard print ruffle hem skirt, studded sandals, Rebecca Minkoff MAC.

Other ways to wearsilver tank and printed jeans, leopard print ruffle hem skirt and pastel pink, studded sandals and floral dress, Rebecca Minkoff MAC and double denim.

Denim Skirts, Navy Tees And Printed Cover Ups With Mini 5-Zip Bags | Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear Link Up, sharing two denim skirt and navy tee outfits I wore recently for the work from home and school run days, with bright cover ups and some colourful Rebecca Minkoff mini 5-zip bags.

What I wore:

kmart tropical palm print cover up with navy tee and distresed denim skirt and sneakers | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff Mini 5 zip in pink iris with gold hardware | awayfromblue

Jacket: thrifted Kmart blue and pink palm print cover up (new purchase)
Necklace: thrifted silver and turquoise multi strand necklace (new purchase)
Tee: Jeanswest Sophie navy v-neck tee
Skirt: JayJays distressed denim mini skirt
ShoesSketchers Bountiful navy fabric sneakers
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff Mini 5 zip in pink iris with gold hardware

Why I wore it:

Wearing a couple of my recent opshop finds here! This turquoise and silver necklace seems like such an obvious pairing with the turquoise palm print of my cover up. The necklace was $2 and the cover up just $1!

Going a little matchy-matchy I went with a navy tee again to match the navy in the print, and then a distressed denim skirt that goes with everything. The pink iris Rebecca Minkoff mini 5-zip bag wasn't a perfect match to the pink in the print, but I liked how it went with the outfit anyway.

Had the usual routine of working from home and doing the school pickup, as well as finishing up my work day a little early to see my son's sports day at school. Comfortable shoes were a must have for standing on the side lines to cheer him on.

Last worn: navy tee, distressed denim skirt, Sketchers, Rebecca Minkoff pink iris mini 5-zip. First time I've worn the necklace and the cover up as they are recent thrift finds.

Other ways to wearnavy tee and green shorts, distressed denim skirt and leopard print, Sketchers and shorts, Rebecca Minkoff pink iris mini 5-zip and floral dress.

What Fits Inside: Rebecca Minkoff Mini 5-Zip

What I wore:

navy tee, white denim skirt, green duster, yellow mini 5-zip bag | awayfromtheblue

Rebecca Minkoff yellow mini 5 zip | awayfromblue

Jacket: Jeanswest Delilah long line kimono in green floral
Necklace: thrifted pearl and heart charm long necklace
TeeAtmos & Here Avery marle tee in navy
SkirtTarget classic denim skirt in white
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff yellow mini 5 zip

Why I wore it:

Another navy tee, this time with a white denim skirt I picked up recently in the Target end of summer clearance sale. I have the same skirt in black I thrifted a while back, so had to get this one in white when I saw it on sale!

Because I really like navy and green together, I added this green duster on top. I still felt that the outfit could use a little more colour though, so went with the yellow Rebecca Minkoff mini 5-zip bag that was the perfect pop against the green of the duster.

Probably could have chosen a colourful necklace with this too, but thought I'd let the bag be the bright pop of colour. Didn't have too much time to try on other necklace options with trying to get the kids out the door to school, so I could get back home in time to log on and work from home before picking them up in the afternoon and running a couple of errands.

Orange and White Skirt and Tee Outfits With Olive Crossbody Bag

Sharing two very different tee and skirt outfits I wore recently, although both feature orange and white with my little olive mini Darren bag.

What I wore:

white tee with rust linen a line button up skirt kmart with olive crossbody bag | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff olive mini Darren crossbody with rust linen skirt | awayfromtheblue

Necklace: thrifted wooden geometric bead necklace (new purchase)
TeeCotton On The One Deep V tee in marle nep white body black
Skirt: thrifted Kmart rust button up linen blend skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff olive mini Darren

Why I wore it:

I always like wearing thrifted pieces together! I picked up this rust linen skirt back in December, and I thrifted this chunky wooden bead statement necklace from the same opshop in March. While the white tee and rust button up skirt looked lovely together, I felt a necklace was really missing from this outfit, and the chunky navy and teal wooden beads were perfect against the white tee.

I really did not have to carry much, with nothing on the agenda other than a swimming lesson for my son as we'd had to move his regular lesson out to a different day. The little olive Darren bag was perfect for carrying the barest of essentials that I needed for the day.

I liked wearing the rust skirt to bring some autumn colour to my outfit, even if the weather here is still firmly set to summer!

Last worn: white speckle tee, rust linen skirt, Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff olive mini Darren bag. First time I've worn the necklace as it's a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearwhite speckle tee and blazer, rust linen skirt and stripes, Rebecca Minkoff olive mini Darren bag with mustard.

My Latest Purchases For March - Target Sale and Thrift Haul

What I wore:

Rebecca Minkoff olive mini Darren with orange tee and white denim skirt | awayfromblue

NecklaceTiffany & Co pink double heart tag pendant necklace layered with Tiffany & Co silver 5th Avenue notes heart pendant necklace
TeeSass and Bide 'New Day Rising' tee in orange leopard print
SkirtTarget classic denim skirt in white  (new purchase)
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff olive mini Darren

Why I wore it:

Since I enjoyed the white, orange and olive combination in the first outfit, I repeated it again a couple days later for a very rare day off! I had a bunch of leave from work to use up, so took the kids to school, had an unproductive stop at the opshop where I came home empty handed, and a glorious massage before getting a few things done at home then picking the kids up from school. It was a nice relaxing day.

As I only had myself to worry about, again the little Rebecca Minkoff olive mini Darren bag was all I needed for the bare essentials. And I really do love the way the olive  works with this bright neon orange leopard print tee as well as it did with the rust skirt in the first outfit!

It was also a good excuse to wear this white denim skirt I picked up at Target in March. I figured that a day mostly to myself would mean it would stay clean, but of course I managed to cover it in chocolate, ha! Thankfully it washed out easy.

Last worn: orange Sass and Bide tee, Tiffany heart pendant necklace, Tiffany 5th Avenue heart necklace, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff mini Darren (above). First time I've worn the denim skirt as it was a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearorange Sass and Bide tee and maxi skirt, Converse and chambray dress, Rebecca Minkoff mini Darren and printed dress.

What I Bought In March & How I've Worn It: Target Sale and Opshop Finds

First haul of the year. Nearly made it 3 months without shopping, without even trying! After my December opshop haul I hadn't seen anything I had to have as I was enjoying wearing all my thrifted pieces from December, as well as the new things I got for Christmas. But then I stumbled across the Target end of summer clearance sale, and had some time at the opshops, so I bought quite a few things this month!

What I Bought In March:

  • thrifted wood and marble bead thrifted necklace with white string
  • thrifted gold and pastel blue beaded necklace with grey string
  • thrifted multi strand multi colour disc bead necklace with tassels
  • thrifted wooden geometric bead necklace
  • thrifted yellow beaded statement pendant long necklace
  • thrifted wooden yellow tassel necklace
  • thrifted silver and turquoise multi strand necklace

Quite a large haul for my first haul of the year! With the exception of the white denim skirt, which I've been thinking about getting for a while, everything was an impulse buy. That explains all the necklaces!

I had fun browsing the Target end of summer sale with my mum and sister at the start of March. I only picked up two things to try on, both of them skirts, and I decided to buy them both. I thrifted a black denim version of the white skirt from the opshop a of couple years ago and love it, so thought it was worth the splurge on the white one in the Target sale. The leopard print skirt looked really cute and when I tried it on I just had to have it! Perfect for autumn here in Brisbane, I'm also looking forward to when it will eventually cool down and I will get to layer it.

The opshop finds were lucky finds! I'd been browsing their $1 book sale for books for the kids, and while I had a little extra time I checked out the clothes and accessories for myself too. Found one of the kimonos on the scarf rail! I loved the colours and the tassels and I pulled it out to take a closer look when I realised it was a kimono. Whenever I see a kimono in an opshop I add it straight to the basket! The cardigan I couldn't pass up either, although I know it will be a while before it's cool enough to wear it.

The necklaces were a little bit of a crazy buy! To be honest I actually put quite a few back, and just ended up taking these 7 home. Still so many to buy at once.

How I've Worn It:

I have a personal goal of wearing everything I buy at least twice in the month I buy it. It didn't work to curb my purchases this time, but my inability to wear everything twice this month has made me realise that yes, maybe 7 necklaces is too many to buy in one go. At just $2 each though, I couldn't resist!

The cardigan I have not worn, as I expected, as it's just not been cool enough, it's been a hot autumn here in Brisbane. I know it will get more wear when the weather cools though, and I've been looking for a printed cardigan for a while.

The kimonos I was sure I'd get two wears from - I do love a good kimono! I have been in the office much more than expected though, and had a few special events this month I'd pre-planned outfits for I wanted to wear, so I didn't meet my wear twice goal with both kimonos, although I do have plans to hit 2 wears with them this weekend.

The white denim skirt, being worn 3 times this month, was definitely the most worn buy of March!

Yearly Fashion Spend for 2023 So Far:

Since I hadn't bought anything in January or February, the March spend is the only amount added to my yearly spend so far in 2023. The skirts from target were 50% off, and the necklaces were $2 each, so my total comes to $52 spent on fashion so far this year.

And in keeping with my fashion goals for 2023, the majority of my purchases this year have been pre-loved, thanks to that awesomely productive opshopping time!
