Summer Christmas parties are easy to dress for when I stick to a simple outfit formula like I have here. A printed tank, black maxi skirt and a matching bag and necklace in festive colours works well, never over or under dressed! While I wore these back in December for a couple of Christmas parties, they are not so festive that they couldn't be worn other times of the year!
I had this tank in mind for an upcoming Christmas party as I thought the red in the print would look so festive with green accessories! I really liked the way this outfit turned out. the matching necklace and Rebecca Minkoff mini 5 zip bag always look good together and with a subtle touch of red in the mixed print tank were a big festive touch. The black drawstring maxi skirt was a good base with all of the colour too!
It was a hot day with a big storm in the afternoon so I was thankful for the slits in the sides of this maxi skirt, kept me cool as we ran around running errands and getting some food to take to the party.
I'd planned to wear a green necklace with this outfit to look really festive for our final Christmas party of the season but wasn't sure it worked with the neckline of this fern print tank when I put it on. I didn't want to wear the green necklace above again, although I thought it would work, as it had been getting a lot of wear over December!
Again we had a busy morning before the party but spent some time with friends in the playground before it got too hot. The party was really fun too and worth the wait being the last one of December!
A printed tank is a fun option for a Christmas party, especially if you stick to festive colours like red or green. They are things you can easily wear year round too, and with all the colour and print a black maxi skirt is a good pairing.
For today's Weekday Wear Linkup I'm sharing what I wore for Christmas!
I wore a maxi skirt for Christmas eve and a maxi dress for the big day, both accessorised with cross body bags and some pretty gold earrings. Two very different outfits though, as we dress down for Christmas eve and dress up for Christmas day. Both days are filled with family but Christmas eve is a lot more casual as we decorate cookies, attempt Christmas craft and snack as we watch a Christmas movie. Christmas day we dress up to enjoy the family time, unwrap gifts, and have a big delicious feast.
Another year of wearing my novelty Santa tee! My sister bought us all these festive glitter tees one year and so every year my question about what to wear for Christmas eve is partially answered - depending on the weather I might wear shorts or a maxi skirt with the tee. It was a little cooler and threatening rain so I figured a maxi skirt was perfect to stop me being too hot or too cold. The day was rain free but there was a huge storm in the afternoon which meant we stayed a little later at my parents until it had blown over!
The gold earrings were a recent gift from my mum - I spotted them while we were out shopping before Christmas and she bought them for me when we were browsing Colette. They look so much little gold baubles I just had to have them, and knew that they would fit in with the glitter on my tee and the Christmas bell and ribbon bracelet (another tradition, just as much as the tee is!). I'm hoping that because they are a classic gold I will get some wear from them outside December too. They look a lot more subtle in the pictures than they do in person!
A much dressier outfit for the big day - we spent the morning at home with the kids, unwrapping presents and enjoying their surprise with everything Santa brought them. Then it was off to the first set of grandparents for more presents before leaving again to end the day down the coast with my family. It's a bit of travelling for one day but it's good to see everyone. Photo is a little dark as it was quite cloudy when I took this pic in the morning and I didn't want to open up the blinds - we had some toys in the back yard for a big Christmas surprise once all the presents were open!
If you're a frequent reader you'll know that I love my Kmart floral dresses! I had went into the store with my mum a few weeks before Christmas to check out another dress I'd never had a chance to try on when I was with the boys, and was disappointed to see it didn't look as good on as it did on the hanger. Mum had spotted this pretty maxi dress for me to take into the change room too and I fell in love with it! She kindly bought it for me and I knew it would be the perfect Christmas day dress.
The chandelier earrings were a gift from my mum too, last year! I thought the gold went nicely with the gold hardware on the vintage Chanel bag. With the statement earrings I didn't feel the need to add a big necklace to this, I thought the bag and earrings were enough, especially with all my silver bracelets. I decided on this delicate Tiffany necklace which matched the silver bracelet stack. Sometimes I like mixing metals with my accessories.
A classic maxi skirt or dress can be perfect for a Christmas gathering. They can be dressed up or down easily, and in our Queensland summers are a great choice to beat the heat. Might not be the best idea if you have a snowy Christmas though, unless you have a free hand to hold the hem up whenever you step foot outside! Adding a pretty pair of statement gold earrings can help you feel a little festive too whatever your weather.

Happy new year! Kicking off the new year with how I intend to continue, in casual and comfortable mum style (even if I wore these back in December!). Two simple mum outfits for summer days with the kids - pairing some colourful v-neck tees with striped maxi skirts for easy outfits on hot days!
I really like yellow and blue together, and I've worn this mustard tee with another navy striped maxi skirt recently. I love stripes! Thought it was a nice colourful outfit choice for a day with the boys - stopping at the park for a bit of a play before the heat sent us home again!
We spent the afternoon wrapping a few Christmas pressies and chilling in the aircon. It was such a hot day, skirt and a tee was the only thing I felt like wearing. I like how easily a maxi skirt works at the playground too, you don't need to worry about the length when running around with the kids or pushing them on the swings!
With the bright mustard yellow and nay blue, thought that this neutral tan Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag was a good choice.
Another v-neck tee and maxi skirt outfit! Again, wearing a striped skirt although this pinstripe doesn't show up well in pics and the skirt just looks grey. I really liked the lilac tee with it, it's nice with the grey.
Added a little extra colour to my outfit with this blush tassel necklace, I like pink and purple together too and I felt it dressed up my casual outfit a little more for church and then lunch and an afternoon shopping with my mum. Was so good to spend time together, even if it was a little crazy trying to get a car park as it was December! Was so nice getting time to decorate the house later too, it was our first Christmas in our new house so I was very excited and kept wanting to buy more decorations.
I think the studded sandals helped dress up this outfit a little more too, as I'd just worn my casual Havaianas in the first outfit. Although not quite as colourful as the first outfit, I thought the Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag was a good companion with this outfit too - it goes with everything!
A maxi skirt is a great piece to have in your mum wardrobe! The perfect length for running around with and bending down to toddlers all day, and still looks and feels a little more pulled together to go to church or a lunch date! Worn with a simple colourful tee it's an easy outfit choice for a hot summer day.
Easy mum style for breezy spring days with v-neck tees and printed maxi skirts. Accessorised with some colourful scarves and my adorable mustard yellow Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag.
I really like blue and yellow together so I knew I should wear this navy striped maxi skirt with the mustard tee. I couldn't resist going a little matchy-matchy with the accessories too, with my mustard Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag matching the tee and navy scarf matching the skirt. Even if the mustard bag isn't quite the same colour as the tee, it is such a fun combo and one I've worn before.
It was a warmer spring day but a bit breezy, especially right on the bay where we spent the morning at the playground, after quickly stopping off at opshop to drop off some stuff. Of course I ended up browsing after donating and picked up a few things for the boys too! I thought the mixed geometric print of the scarf was a fun print mix with the striped skirt, and loved the combination.
Of course the location is the best part though! I couldn't believe my luck stumbling across this beautiful jacaranda tree. Even if the wind made it tricky to get a good pic, and baby boy had a bit of fun running around in the background 😂 The jacaranda trees are so beautiful and worth documenting though - they blossom every spring in Brisbane and are so colourful!
Again with the mustard! It is my favourite shade of yellow. The lovely boho print on this red maxi skirt has a little touch of yellow in it so the mustard bag was an obvious choice, and with the bold red and yellow together I thought a plain white tee was the best. It made it through a trip to the park with the kids and dogs, a haircut, and going out for lunch with my sister without getting a stain so I was pretty happy! I wasn't as lucky last time I wore it...
Again it was a windy start to the morning so I added a scarf, and thought this mustard one was such a bright pop with the red skirt. Just like the tee in the outfit above, it's a different shade from the bag but I thought it complimented it nicely.
A printed maxi skirt is a fun piece to wear in warmer weather - and paired with a plain tee it makes for an easy outfit. You can add further colour and print to your outfit with accessories too, like I have with the scarves and the little mustard bag.
I love a good slouchy tee and I love a maxi skirt – paired together
it makes a comfortable and practical outfit for days with the kids. To dress up
these outfits a little I wore statement necklaces with them, and my trusty little red Rebecca Minkoff micro avery bag.
A busy day when I wore this! I did a little opshopping in
the morning to pick up a few more necklace options trying to find the perfect
way to accessorise my dress for an event, and we had to stop by the library and
grocery store.
The afternoon was more relaxed, a leisurely stroll / bike /
scoot around our local park after a last minute rush to the bank to pickup a copy of a letter that never arrived . This comfortable outfit was just what I needed. I loved
this statement necklace against the red slouchy tee, I’ve worn it with a red tee before and liked it then too. The vertical striped maxi skirt has pockets
too which is so practical. And the gold mouse flats matched the gold hardware
on the little Rebecca Minkoff micro avery bag nicely.
Not the first time I’ve worn this beautiful red thrifted
maxi skirt with a blue tee! I like blue and red together so this skirt is worn
with blue a lot, and the $3 thrifted skirt with the tee that works out to about
63 cents makes for a very affordable outfit! I got the tee in a bag of clothes in the “fill a bag for $5” sale which is why it works out so cheaply! I was dressing for comfort as we headed out
to the airport early in the morning to pick someone up, and then lunch and shopping with
my sister later.
I picked this silk beaded necklace to use as distraction for the boys while we waited at the airport – but thankfully we didn’t have to wait wrong. The
extra pearl bracelets were another distraction tool – it’s so normal for my
boys to play with my accessories when I pick them up for cuddles – part of the
reason I rarely wear delicate or sharp statement necklaces on my SAHM days, preferring them for
office days!
There's a fashion "rule" that you shouldn't pair two voluminous pieces, like a slouchy oversized tee and a billowy maxi skirt together. But I say you should wear what makes you comfortable, and a maxi skirt and tee is such a comfy outfit! Perfect easy outfit for a mum too, no worrying about the skirt being too short as you run around with the kids! Linking up with Fab Friday, Weekend Wear, Lizzie In Lace, Fancy Friday.
Warmer weather at the start of spring was the perfect reason to get these fun frill sleeve tees out again! It seems a little unfair to wear them in cooler weather when the statement sleeves are covered up. Keeping things simple I wore these tees with two recently thrifted striped maxi skirts.
I like a bit of matchy-matchy and the navy frill sleeved tee pairs so perfectly with the navy and grey striped maxi skirt. The peachy Rebecca Minkoff small Love bag was the perfect pop against the neutral navy outfit, especially when worn with the peach and gold bracelet stack.
The beaded necklace is gold and pink but I still think it went nicely with the colours of the outfit, the blush and peach were sweet together. A casual and comfortable outfit for a superhero birthday party in the park. If you look closely at the Instagram pic you might see one of my little superheroes running away 😂
It was a little windy at the park so I did wish I'd added an extra layer to this, especially when standing in the shade, but it was perfect when sitting in the sun. We hadn't been to a party in that park before so weren't expecting the breeze off the water to be so chilly!
Since I liked the outfit above so much I did my usual and copied the outfit formula to wear again a few days later. I went with a bright pink frill sleeve tee this time, and a vertical stripe maxi skirt.
Swapped out my little peach small Rebecca Minkoff love bag with this regular size one, and added a different pink beaded necklace this time to compliment the pink tee.
Another simple and comfortable outfit I really enjoyed wearing for a quiet day running errands and visiting the library with the boys.
A plain block colour frill sleeve tee is a nice twist on a standard basic tee and just as easy to wear! Try pairing it with something striped or printed for a little more interest in your outfit. You can match the tee to the print like I have in the first outfit or wear a bright tee with a neutral print like I have in the second outfit.
Sharing some casual outfits I wore through the week for today's Weekday Wear Linkup!
You know I love my maxi skirts, especially striped ones! It's fun to introduce another print to a striped skirt by adding a statement scarf, especially if you're wearing a basic block colour tee. Such a simple yet colourful way to dress for spring.
I loved this outfit so much! The maxi skirt is a delicate pinstripe so it looks more grey in pics, but I feel in person you can see the navy pinstripe a bit better (and in the bag closeup shot). I thought it would be fun to match the stripes on the skirt with a striped scarf, and this one added a great touch of colour to the grey outfit. I really like pink and grey together, so wore my Rebecca Minkoff Darren bag to add a little more pink (and to match the blush stripes in the scarf nicely).
A simple and comfortable outfit for a quiet Friday with the kids - we went to the playground in the morning, picked up a few groceries on the way home, and then did some baking. I made a savoury pancake that I used to make for the boys when they were little. They each took one bite and decided they didn't like it anymore, ha! Oh well!
A bit of an early morning photoshoot! I set my alarm a little earlier than the boys get up to have some quiet time to myself each morning - I read my bible, do a little bit of blog work and then get them up and get their breakfast before we all get dressed for the day. When I woke up on this Monday morning and saw the fog, I decided instead of relaxing to get up, get dressed, and go out to snap some photos.
I went out on the street to get a better pic of the fog, and passed one of my neighbours. Luckily, it's easy to explain why you're carting a camera and tripod around when the streets are so foggy - he was happy with my "taking pictures of the fog!" explanation and it was easy to move a little further down the street and be hidden by the fog so he couldn't see, ha! But I think I'll stick to backyard photos!
I'd planned to wear this navy tee as I knew it would match so nicely with the navy stripes in the maxi skirt, but I did have to add the denim jacket as I went out the door as it was a little chilly at 6am, even with the big bright scarf. I thought the navy and pink combo was a fun one, even though the blush pink Rebecca Minkoff Darren bag doesn't match the pale pink diamonds on the scarf exactly it was a nice combination. I ended up taking the scarf and denim jacket off later in the day when out with the boys as it warmed up so nicely!
A striped maxi skirt is a great basic for mum-life, especially when paired with a plain block colour tee. For a little extra colour and interest, you can add contrasting accessories like I have here with the pink scarves and bag. Perfect for spring!
