Printed Tees, Denim Shorts and Balenciaga G21 Hardware Bags

When it's a hot and humid weekend, I default to the simple summer outfit: shorts and tee! For something a little different, I'm wearing some printed tees and accessorising with Balenciaga bags.

Why I wore it:

This tee is so rarely worn. It's a bit bold and in your face, being orange leopard print, but it was perfect for the 'orange kisses' style prompt with the style challenge I was doing on Instagram. It's also super soft and so comfortable to wear. While I wear it really sparingly, I was once again reminded of how much I love it, so it's definitely still hanging around in my wardrobe (even if this is only it's fifth wear in 4 years!). Hopefully it doesn't go so long between wears in future!

With the bold orange neon tee I felt simple was best so stuck with black accessories. Black denim shorts, Havaianas, and my black Balenciaga part time bag. Even though the pendant necklace is gold and the studded hardware on my bag is silver, I felt they looked okay together.

This was a simple outfit to take my parents in the airport in the morning and then run a few errands with the boys and pick up some last minute food pieces for a Christmas party in the evening (which I got changed for). Mid January and I'm still posting December pics, eek!

Why I wore it:

I didn't like this outfit as much as the one above! It was a busy day. There was a threat of a storm all day but we decided to head to the local Christmas markets anyway as I'd seen a stall holder advertising on facebook that I really wanted to check out to pick up the final Christmas gift off my list. Unfortunately, the threat of the storm had meant there weren't as many stall holders as planned and the stall I wanted wasn't there. We found an alternative present, but it wasn't as good as my first choice option, and did mean we had to stop at the shops on the way home to pick up a couple of other little things.

I wanted to try something different and do a little print mixing with this tee - I thought the navy polka dots would be a nice back ground for this red printed kimono. I really like red and navy together. I didn't love this outfit as much as I'd hoped though. The print mixing looked great when I held the pieces up side by side the night before but not so much once I wore them in the morning. Feeling hot and bothered all day with the humidity didn't help me love my outfit any more either, haha!

How You Can Wear It

Summer Style: Shorts And Kimonos With Rebecca Minkoff MAM Bag

A pair of soft, loose shorts like the ones I'm wearing below and a nice lightweight kimono along with a simple tank is such a staple summer outfit for me! I find the kimonos provide sun protection, add a little extra colour and print, and are a great way to layer without overheating. These outfits were perfect for our December heat.

Why I wore it:

I got this beautiful big scarf as part of my brand rep role for fashion scarf girl. Being a massive scarf (100 cm by 180 cm!) I instantly thought of wearing it as a sarong for the beach. With no beach trips in the immediate future, I decided to double it over and knot the ends together to create a kimono. Not the first time I've worn a scarf as a kimono, it's a good way to change up the way you wear something!

I picked the olive shorts as they kind of met the #DAREcember style challenge prompt of 'in the jungle', being an olive colour. And also because it was a hot day with a lot of running around to do and these are so light to wear. I ran a few errands with the boys, including buying a secret Santa gift for a Christmas dinner with friends.

With the olive shorts and all the colours in the scarf, I thought the neutral Rebecca Minkoff MAM was a good bag to compliment it. Holds a lot of things too!

Why I wore it:

This was such a hot day! We planned to put up out Christmas tree in the afternoon (I wore this back at the start of December). There was a new walking trail I wanted to try out first, so we set off early in the morning before the heat got to be too much. Since it was a sunny day, I added the kimono for a little sun protection as I wasn't sure how shaded the track would be. While the walk was short, it was worth it, beautiful views!
While it was a bit warm for closed in shoes, and I kicked them off as soon as I got home, the Converse were good for walking. I was glad the walk was short as it was so hot! Will definitely attempt it again later when it's a little cooler.

It's not the first time I've tried this floral kimono with another print, it's great for print mixing with. With the black shorts, grey kimono and silver tank I felt the outfit needed a little colour - this pretty Ruby Olive necklace that my bestie got me from Christmas was the perfect addition. Met the 'dotty' style challenge prompt nicely for that day too.

A simple bright tank and denim shorts is an easy summer staple outfit. For something a little different, I like to add some extra colour or print with accessories. A kimono, printed bag, or as I've worn here a printed scarf, is a fun extra touch to your outfit. Both of these scarves are lightweight and perfect for a milder summer day.

Why I wore it:

This was an absolutely crazy day. Usually on a crazy busy day I'd stick with a comfortable tried and true outfit, but I decided at the last minute to try something a little different and add this pale pink leaf print scarf to the hot pink tank. While it was a hot day, it was a very windy one so the scarf was a great accessory to have. Particularly when the dust picked up.

I had to drive into the city for an appointment and it was an interesting drive - some of the remnants of the dust storm had reached Brisbane and everything was very hazy. Which lead to a lot of questions from the kids in the back seat about why the city was so 'misty'. And a very dirty car -  although I wore this back in November - like everyone else in Brisbane my car stayed covered in red dust for a few weeks!

With the pink on pink, the neutral Rebecca Minkoff MAB bag seemed like a good choice, and it held a few things I needed for the appointment. Perfect for running errands after too.

Why I wore it:

A  very similar outfit formula to the one above, again with a pink tank and denim shorts. I added this fun chicken and egg print scarf for a little extra interest with the otherwise plain outfit. Unlike the day above, this was a much more relaxed day with the boys. We headed out to the library for rhyme time and then stopped at a few stores on the way home to run some errands. Being in aircon for most of the day, the scarf was a good extra layer to stop it feeling too chilly in the shopping centre.

A plain tank and denim shorts is such an easy summer staple outfit. If you want to change things up a little between wears, try throwing on a cute scarf for some extra interest to your outfit. If it's a cooler summer day or you're spending a lot of time in the aircon it will make you a little warmer too! Light fabrics like viscose are best for scarves you want to wear in summer.

Denim Shorts, Slouchy Tees, Printed Scarves and Louis Vuitton Neverfull Tote

When I bought these tees from Jeanswest in the sale a few months ago, I didn't expect them to become as much of a staple as they have! I already have a few slouchy tees in my wardrobe, something just makes me keep picking out these tees. They are loose and light, perfect for a hot day when paired with denim shorts. To keep my outfits interesting, I added in a print with my lighter scarves. Both these blue scarves are made from viscose.

Why I wore it:

This outfit was a hastily pulled together last minute one, but it doesn't look it! I love how a scarf makes your outfit feel more pulled-together. I was in a bit of a rush that morning to get the boys ready and out the door to go to our local ABA group catch up. The blue printed scarf wasn't a necessary addition - I certainly didn't need it to stay warm! - but it was a great completer piece for an otherwise basic shorts and tee outfit. I really liked the red and blue together too.

These studded Rebecca Minkoff sandals are becoming a frequent go-to when I want to wear my Louis Vuitton neverfull tote - they just go perfectly together and with every outfit!

We had a busy morning with some errands to run after our ABA meeting so I picked my neverfull tote to carry everything we needed around the shopping centre and I could leave the bulky and heavy baby bag in the car!

Why I wore it:

A slightly less hectic start to the morning with this outfit! It was another hot day, but there was a bit of a breeze so this time around the scarf was added for a little extra warmth! I seem to wear this navy mixed print scarf with a lot of olive, this dark olive tee was a natural pairing with it when trying to figure out what to wear that morning.

While these glitter shoes were only $8 at Kmart, I've found them to be really comfortable shoes, so I figured I'd switch things up a little from my Converse and take them out on a stroll through the mangroves. I can't find a definitive answer on the length of the walk online, but the walk is part boardwalk part path through a little bit of bush. Other Bayside locals will know where I mean. It took us nearly 2 hours, lots of stopping to pat dogs walking along, or talk to fishermen, or watch trains once we climbed to the top of the hill. The breeze was perfect for stopping us from overheating, and my scarf came in handy when the wind got too much as we got further out into the bay.

We will need to take Cooper next time - we had to stop at the grocery store afterwards so he had to stay home this time.

Again I carried my big neverfull tote for everyone's water bottles, I didn't feel like carrying the heavy baby bag all the way around the walk!

How You Can Wear It:

A plain slouchy tee is a wardrobe basic and a mum essential. You can't beat a shorts and tee outfit or summer. If you need to change up the outfit a little or you just want to add some extra interest, try a printed scarf! Scarves draped loosely around your neck and made from a light fabric like the viscose these ones are made of will introduce a fun print without overheating you. You can wrap them a little tighter around when it gets cooler in the mornings or evenings, or when you're caught in the breeze being out on the water.

Print Mixing: Striped Tanks, Shorts and Floral Kimonos With Cross Body Bags

Just like last summer, I'm finding kimonos and shorts are a frequent go-to option in the heat. To mix things up a little, I tried some print mixing, adding floral print kimonos on top of the striped tanks. I always love print mixing with stripes, they just go with everything.

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a very hot and humid day! We took the boys to the Bayside steam railway again. It's a huge set of miniature train tracks and you get to sit on the carriages of mini steam trains and zip around the tracks. One of the safety requirements is closed in shoes, so I wore my Converse despite the humidity.

The striped tank looked great worn just with the shorts alone, but I wanted to cover up my shoulders a little as it was such a sunny day. Like last time we went to the steam railway, I added a kimono on top. This one was a lucky thrift find. I always look in opshops for kimonos but over the years this is the only one I've found! With the red birds in the print, the red Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag seemed like the perfect accessory. Despite the small size, it comfortably held the essentials and the boys water bottles so I had them handy as we went for rides on the train. Turns out that sitting on the back of a tiny train as it steams through the trees creates a lovely cooling breeze too, it was such an enjoyable morning.

After riding on the trains, we walked over to the nearby park to let the boys run around a bit more, but the heat quickly sent us back home to cool off in the air conditioning!

Why I wore it:

Despite having the same outfit formula as what I wore above, I didn't like this outfit as much. I love all of the pieces on their own, this is one of my frequently worn kimonos and you can't beat a classic white striped tank! I just felt it all looked a little off together. I did like how comfortable this was for a morning out with the boys though. We went to the local library and they played a bit in the playground before lunch.

I didn't hate this outfit - there were some things about it I really liked, like how well the pastel pink shorts went with the Rebecca Minkoff peony Darren messenger bag! I will definitely be wearing those two pieces together again!

How You Can Wear It:

Stripes and florals are so fun to wear together! A colourful floral kimono is such an easy piece to add to a summer shorts and striped tank outfit too. It doesn't overheat you but allows you to add more colour and interest to what you're wearing. A basic striped tank is a must have piece you can wear so many different ways.

With summer approaching, seemed like the perfect time to feature another pair of shorts for this month's 30 ways to wear post! It's these cute blue 'Scarlette' printed soft shorts from Jeanswest.

30 Ways To Wear: Blue Printed Shorts

Cost Per Wear:

I bought these blue printed shorts at Jeanswest back in 2014, so I don't remember the exact price! A similar pair of printed shorts I bought more recently were $35.99, so I'd assume these were around the same price. It means they are just over the $1 cost-per-wear figure people aim to get to, but given that they still look brand new and I still love them, I'll definitely get them down to less than a dollar per wear!

Blue Printed Shorts With Grey Tees

A grey tee is a classic fall-back for me. Not sure what to wear? Throw on a grey top or tee! The neutral colour works so well with any print and is a simple fuss-free way to get dressed quickly.

Printed Shorts And Basic Tanks

Just like the grey tops above, other basic block colours work well with printed shorts. I like bold colour combinations with these shorts like the pink and purple tanks, but of course you can stick with other neutrals like black too.

Blue Printed Shorts And Yellow

As you've seen in the outfit photos above, I like adding little yellow touches when wearing these blue shorts. Yellow and blue is just such a cheerful colour combination! Basic yellow tanks like the ones above pair so nicely with prints, as you can let the colour mix be the star without worrying about prints clashing, keeping things nice and simple.

Printed Shorts In A Monochrome Outfit

As much as I love wearing other colours with these shorts, sometimes you just want a classic monochromatic outfit. Blue is a very common colour in my wardrobe, so I've had a lot of blue tops I could wear with these shorts! You can keep things entirely monochromatic, or use the monochrome outfit base to add other colours through your accessories like I have with the necklaces and pink bag.

Blue Printed Shorts And Light Layers

Shorts are definitely a summer staple, but you can layer them ever so slightly despite the heat. Sleeveless vets in contrasting colours, or bright kimonos are nice layers to add for some extra interest to your outfit without overheating!

Printed Shorts And Ankle Boots

When it's not quite summer or summer is starting to fade, you can still wear your shorts. I like to wear ankle boots with shorts for spring and autumn, and of course you can add a cosy knit like the blue cardigan or grey jumper if you need a little extra warmth. It's a good way to get more wear from your favourite shorts.

Print Mixing: Printed Shorts And Stripes

I've shown a lot of basic block colour pieces with these printed shorts, but it's fun to pattern mix with them too! I really like wearing stripes with these shorts - I find the navy and white stripes tie in with the colours in the print really nicely, but other colours of stripes like the grey and white work well too.

Blue Printed Shorts And Detailed Tops

Took me a while to think of how to classify these outfits! The trio is all quite detailed tops, paired with the printed shorts. Despite the tops being interesting statement pieces on their own, I think they all work so nicely with the top as the colours with white and blue echo the colours in the print of the shorts. Some fun and different outfits that show you don't just have to stick to pairing only basics with printed pieces.

Two Ways To Wear Jeanswest Waterfall Drape Cardigan in Navy

I bought some new cardigans recently to celebrate the cooler weather in Brisbane! You might have seen in Monday's office wear post how to wear them in the office, but today I'm picking the navy one and showing you two different ways to wear it.

This is the new season Jeanswest waterfall drape cardigan, which has two buttons on the top and button holes in the hem. It means you can button up one side as an impromptu breastfeeding cover, or you can button up both hems and wear it like a cowl neck knit.

While it's winter now, it was still a mild autumn when I wore this cardigan for the first time, so I'm wearing it with shorts in both outfits.

What I wore:

Tank: thrifted Cotton On yellow tank
Shorts: Jeanswest 'Scarlette' printed shorts
Shoes: Asos leather Chelsea boots in tan
Bag: Balenciaga truffle brown RH classic day bag

Why I wore it:

I was so eager to squeeze in another wear of these shorts, in my effort to hit 30 wears on them before the summer weather really ended. With the ankle boots and long cardigan, they were just warm enough for the last of our summer heat before autumn truly set in. The blue shorts were an obvious choice to wear with the navy cardigan as I love wearing these shorts with navy pieces to create monochrome outfits.

The mustard cardigan is something I've worn frequently with these shorts too, I really like yellow and blue together. A nice cheerful and colourful outfit, yet still practical for working from home and doing the daycare drop off / pick up.


Last worn: navy waterfall cardigan, mustard yellow tank, blue printed soft shorts, Chelsea leather ankle boots, Balenciaga truffle brown day bag.

Other ways to wear: navy waterfall cardigan in the office, mustard yellow tank and kimono, blue printed soft shorts and navy peasant top, Chelsea leather ankle boots and burgundy pants, Balenciaga truffle brown day bag and shorts.

Perfect for pregnancy: mustard yellow tank in second trimester, Chelsea leather ankle boots in second trimester, Balenciaga truffle brown day bag for second trimester travel.

What I wore:

Jacket: Jeanswest waterfall drape cardigan in navy night sky marle (worn as top)
Shorts: Jeanswest Sara distressed hot short
Shoes: Walnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
Bag: Balenciaga Day bag in 2005 magenta

Why I wore it:

There was a little more rushing around when I wore this outfit. We had some errands to run and a doctor's appointment in the morning. I thought the cardigan buttoned up and worn like a tank would be perfect with shorts, as it was quite a sunny day. It was also rather windy though, so I did regret choosing shorts when walking between stores and giving Cooper his afternoon walk when the wind picked up.

The magenta Balenciaga Day bag is my favourite part of this outfit - it really pops with the navy cardigan. If it had been a less windy day, I would have liked this outfit more I'm sure. It was still warm in the sun, so jeans would have been too much with the cardigan buttoned up like this though. Not a bad outfit, just not the best for the weather that day!

How You Can Wear It:

During those in-between seasons where it's not too hot or not too cold, a cardigan can be a good option with some shorts! A neutral navy cardigan like this will go with so much too. While this has buttons to take the hems up, you could easily replicate the second outfit with a waterfall drape cardigan you own and a brooch or pin.
