It's nice just to wear a printed tank and shorts, but every now and then you want to add a little something to make an outfit different, and kimonos and sleeveless coats or vests are perfect for layering in the summer heat.
What I wore:
Sunglasses: Ray-Ban new Wayfarers
Jacket: Somedays Lovin' Yakuza print kimonoNecklace: Nibbly Bits Abacus teething necklace in pop
Top: Jeanswest 'Josie' striped back strap tank
Shorts: Jeanswest denim cuff shorts
Shoes: Wittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs pearl, howlite and hematite beaded bracelets
Bag: Balenciaga truffle brown RH classic day bag
Why I wore it:
I really enjoyed wearing this outfit. It met lots of style challenges on Instagram, but I loved it for how comfortable it was and how quick and easy it was to wear. Stripes and florals are always a good combination, stripes are the easiest thing to print mix with I think. I really like the way that the bright necklace looks against the white tank too. I don't have a plain white tank - it was something on my wardrobe wishlist I couldn't find before I started #6monthsWithoutShopping so this is as close as I'll get. This kimono has been worn a lot this past summer! More than any of my other kimonos. I find the grey base so easy to pair with anything and everything and it's easy to pull colours out of the print (like the yellow) or the brown here to accessorise with. The colours in the print work well with my handbag collection!
Wore this to take baby boy for his weekly weigh and spend some time with my mum in the afternoon.
Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, Somedays Lovin' kimono, striped tank, denim shorts, two tone sandals, Balenciaga truffle Day bag.
Other ways to wear: printed kimono and plain tank, striped tank and boucle jacket, denim shorts in a monochrome outfit, two tone sandals and shirt dress, Balenciaga truffle Day bag for a weekend trip.
Printed Kimonos Under $50:
What I wore:
Sunglasses: Ray-Ban new Wayfarers
Jacket: Jeanswest Peri drape sleeveless jacket (on sale!)Necklace: Nibbly Bits Abacus teething necklace in pop
Tank: no label floral and lace top
Shorts: Jeanswest Trinity Bermuda denim shorts (on sale!)
Shoes: Rebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush (on sale!)
Bag: Balenciaga truffle brown RH classic day bag
Why I wore it:
Wore this to take the boys out to playgroup. Unlike the outfit above, while I like all of the pieces in this outfit separately I really didn't like them together. It met multiple style challenges on Instagram, and the floral tank and pink vest are something I'd been wanting to wear together since I first bought the vest. I do like the combination, and it certainly looked okay in the mirror that morning, but looking at the photos I think it seems slightly off. This tank, while pretty, is a real pain to breastfeed in too as it's fitted and you have to roll it up rather than pull it down, not leaving a lot of coverage. Luckily I didn't have to feed baby boy in public! If I'd worn a different bag with it, a smaller cross body bag like I did here, I probably would have liked this outfit more. The brown Balenciaga day bag is a bit much with the drape on the jacket I think. Too large. An outfit fail, that I probably could have improved with a different bag.
Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer (above), pink sleeveless jacket, floral and lace tank, bermuda denim shorts, studded gladiator sandals, Balenciaga truffle Day bag (above).
Other ways to wear: pink sleeveless jacket worn two ways, floral and lace tank with striped skirt, bermuda denim shorts and slouchy tee, studded gladiator sandals and wrap dress, Balenciaga truffle Day bag and pencil skirts.
Lightweight Sleeveless Jackets Under $50:
You can still layer in summer - a lightweight kimono or sleeveless jacket (the ones I'm wearing are made from viscose) adds some colour and interest to an outfit without overheating you.

I do agree that floral and stripes go well together. I really like the mix of prints in the first outfit. That kimono looks great paired with that floral top. I would also add that denim and florals is always a good combo. I do like the shorts in both outfits. You look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteHow interesting that Autumn starts in Australia....I sometimes forget about the seasonal difference. Here the Spring can finally be sensed in the air.
Yes stripes seem to go with everything! :)

Happy autumn! So do your leaves turn colours and fall off trees? You always make me excited about getting my summer clothes out.
ReplyDeleteNot really here in Brisbane sadly! I think some other states see autumn leaves falling :)
DeleteSO jealous of your warm weather looks! Loving your kimono!

The second outfit wasn't my favorite either, it looked kind of bulky in the shot above, and like you said the bag did emphasize that a little.
ReplyDeleteHere spring is finally, slowly making an appearance.

Yep! He's our little Shih Tzu / first child, haha! He might be something more than just Shih Tzu, he's a rescue so we can't be sure.
DeleteHi Mica, I think you and I are usually on similar weather... although we skip winter. Just this morning I was eying my kimono and thinking I should wear it...
ReplyDeleteI've been pleased to see your kimono pop up on your blog!
DeleteI love your furry photo bomber in the first photo! So cute!

The floral and stripes go really well together indeed, Mica and I agree that the second outfit does look a little off. It's still pretty but I much prefer the first outfit. I on the other hand can't wait for the warmer weather to finally descend...this winter has been way too cold and I'm sick of anything snow related.

Yep the first outfit is definitely my favourite!
DeleteHello Mrs Lovely Legs! It's still super sticky here, hot enough to wear shorts but way too wet! I love that stripe/floral combo too!
ReplyDeleteI like the bag with both the kimono & vest Mica! Honestly, I just think the top in the second outfit might have thrown it off. But it doesn't look bad at all. It's amazing that Autumn is right around the corner.

Thanks Kim, I'll certainly be trying it again!
DeleteI always get serious heart eyes when I see your studded blush sandals. They're SO pretty!
ReplyDeleteThey are! Great sandals :)
DeleteYou look so pretty Mica, and your kimono is just lovely! The kimono complements your outfit perfectly, and I adore the print and colour scheme. I like the way this outfit is casual, yet feminine at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI hope your little boy is doing well and everything is ok now.
p.s - Thanks so much for your sweet comment on my blog. You're very kind indeed.
Lots of love Saba xx

Thanks, he's doing much better!
DeleteA printed tee and shorts is definitely the best go-to for a summer day, unfortunately here in Sydney, autumn weather is definitely setting in!
ReplyDeleteLove how you've paired the outfit with the kimono!
The Hidden Thimble
Stripes and floral is one of my favorite print mixes too! You can never go wrong with that. I love the vest in your second look too--it's such a pretty layer that doesn't add a lot of bulk. I hope you had a great weekend Mica!
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha I'm sure March is often the hottest month here in Adelaide! No sign of autumn yet.
ReplyDeleteYeah it's shaping up to be that way in Brisbane too! :(
DeleteI still rock my maternity denim shorts - they are just so comfortable. Thanks for linking up to the Ultimate Rabbit Hole xox
ReplyDeleteThey are! If mine fit post-baby I'd have kept them!
DeleteI honestly think even being pregnant all summer long wont stop my love of sandals, shorts, and kimonos. We're expecting snow on Saturday. Sigh, need Spring/ summer pronto!
ReplyDeleteHope you didn't get snow! Get a good pair of maternity shorts and you're sorted! :)
DeleteThanks all for your comments and input into the second outfit I wasn't as happy with :)
