Printed Jeans and Colourful Cardigans

Layering up some printed jeans for winter and adding a little colour with tonal tee and cardigan pairings. With all that colour I wore my latest neutral handbag purchase, the Chloe small Ethel in light khaki. Comfortable and colourful for some vet visits for Cooper. He's really been a frequent patient this year unfortunately!

What I wore:

sass bide black printed skinny jeans with pink tee purple cardigan and neutral small chloe ethel bag | away from blue

pink and purple with Chloe small Ethel bag in light khaki | awayfromtheblue

Jacket: Jeanswest Dana drape knit cardi in boysenberry
Necklace: Kmart rose gold and pink beaded necklace
Tee: Jeanswest essential v-neck tee in azalea pink
JeansSass & Bide Playman skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

This may be my favourite outfit ever with these Sass and Bide chevron print jeans. I've worn them with pink before, and with this purple cardigan before. The black Converse are a staple shoe choice with them. But this combination of all 3 pieces (and that great neutral Chloe Ethel bag) I really loved.

I wasn't sure at first if this pink tee would work with this purple cardigan but I thought if it did work it would be a nice tonal combo, and I'm so glad I gave this a wear! I'd planned the outfit the week before but it turned out to be the perfect thing to wear for another day in lockdown. Instead of the school run and some time at the playground as planned, it was taking Cooper to the vets for an operation and a brief visit to the doctors. The cheerful colours really helped boost my mood! Thankfully Cooper is home recovering well from his operation. I'm so glad the vets were still able to see him even in lockdown.

Pink and purple are a combination I've always enjoyed, and I've worn this pink tee with a different purple cardigan before, and this cardigan with other pink pieces, but this reminds me I need to try wearing the combination more!

Last worn: waterfall cardigan, beaded necklace, pink tee, chevron print jeans, Converse, Chloe small Ethel bag.

Other ways to wearwaterfall cardigan worn 30 ways, pink tee and culottes, chevron print jeans and double denim, Converse and pencil skirt, Chloe small Ethel bag and maxi skirt.

Perfect for pregnancywaterfall cardigan in first trimester, Converse in second trimester.

Unboxing: Chloe Ethel Handbag

What I wore:

Jacket: Jeanswest waterfall drape cardigan in navy night sky marle
Necklace: Kmart gold and navy beaded necklace
TeeCotton On The One fitted v tee in washed poolside blue
Jeans: Portmans pink leopard print skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star coast blue
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

This bright and colourful outfit was again planned in advance. I felt it had been a while since I had gotten these pink leopard print jeans out, and a quiet Friday before the lockdown with not much planned other than the school run seemed like a good time to give them another wear. With the bright pink I thought the neutral navy cardigan and pastel blue tee would be another good tonal combo. Like the pink and purple above, pink and blue is another combination I really enjoy wearing. The Converse were another way to add even more blue to this outfit. And again, a good neutral bag with all that colour, the small Chloe Ethel.

After snoozing my alarm a couple time I finally got up and ready for the day and came downstairs to find the wrapper for a bar of chocolate on the floor, all torn open. Not the best start to the day when I picked it up confused and noticed the bite marks on it - Cooper had at some point in the night helped himself to a bar of dark chocolate. One panicked call to the emergency vet later, and a few tears when she ran the calculations for a tiny Shih Tzu of his weight and the amount of (toxic to dogs) dark chocolate he consumed, we rushed him off so they could remove it from his stomach.

Thankfully he lived to tell the tale, and oddly enjoyed his charcoal medicated food for a few days. And all chocolate is now out of his reach! It seems like an bizarrely upbeat and cheerful outfit for such a stressful day, but I had no idea what I was going to stumble across that morning. Thank goodness he did leave the wrapper in such an obvious place and this had a happy ending!

How You Can Wear It:

Printed jeans look great with basic block colour pieces like tees and cardigans. An ideal way to layer up in winter is to pick tonal colours from the same family for a monochromatic outfit that works with any print!

Metallic Tops With Skinny Jeans, Chloe Ethel and a Touch of Red

Bringing a little sparkle to staple winter jeans outfits with metallic tops. Added some colour with pops of red too.

What I wore:

Jacket: Jeanswest waterfall drape cardigan in scarlett marle
NecklaceRoie Designs feather, quartz and love charm long necklace
Tank: Jeanswest Maji metallic tank in soft green and silver
JeansSass & Bide Playman skinny jeans
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

This was a fun day! Last day of the school holidays meant taking the kids out to a playground of their choice for the day. While it was a cold day it was quite nice in the sun watching the kids play. I even considered taking my cardigan off a few times!

Thought this metallic tank would look nice with the chevron print jeans. Never looks metallic in the pics but it does have a silver metallic thread running through it that makes it feel a little more special than a plain grey tank each time I wear it. Still felt this outfit was lacking something though so added the red cardigan for a little extra warmth and colour with the neutrals. A bright cardi like this over neutrals is an easy way to add a lot of colour to an outfit, and I think this addition really made the outfit.

Wore my Chloe Ethel bag again. It's on heavy repeat since I got it! While it has pretty statement gold hardware I still think it worked with the silver tank, and it had plenty of space for snacks for the kids and all our water bottles too.

Another fun day out with the kids! There's a miniature railway here in the Bayside but it was closed with the first lockdown in March 2020 and just hadn't reopened with fluctuating restrictions and them taking advantage of the downtime to make some improvements to the station and tracks. We were thrilled they announced their reopening and we could finally take the kids - they would ask every time we passed when it was starting up again. It was really busy with everyone taking advantage of the grand reopening but mask rules were still in place from our 3 cases the week before and it was back to 0 cases so we felt safe. (Note that I took off my mask for the pic on the trail we walked along afterwards as we were outdoors and there was no-one there except my family, so it was allowed to remove it under the mask rules in place at that time).

This gold metallic knit is one I thrifted a couple months ago. I was a bit on the fence about it but $2 price swayed me! Took a few washes to get it wearable and then a little longer to work up the courage to give it a wear. It's a lot more muted in the photos, it feels very 80s and in your face in person 😅 I figured for a sunny but windy day the thick knit was a good choice. I actually really enjoyed this and wish I hadn't waited so long to wear it! It's good to step out of your comfort zone now and then.

The wind did make it a little chilly so I added the red Alexander McQueen skull scarf for a bit extra warmth and to break up the gold with a touch of colour.

With the gold hardware on the Chloe Ethel bag and it's ability to hold absolutely everything we need (the usual plus water bottles and even my camera) it was an obvious choice. It does blend in a bit with the knit in the photos though, a more contrasting bag may have been a better choice.

Last worn: red skull scarf, Nobody Denim skinny jeans, New Balance sneakers (above), Chloe Ethel bag (above). First time I've worn the gold knit as it's a recent opshop buy.

Other ways to wearred skull scarf with blue, Nobody Denim skinny jeans and kimono, Chloe Ethel bag and monochrome blue outfit.

Perfect for pregnancyred skull scarf in third trimester.

How You Can Wear It:

Black skinny jeans are a staple! To mix it up a little and add more interest to your outfit, try metallic pieces or even a splash of red. Cooler weather is good for this as it's easy to add a bright scarf or cardigan to bring more colour to your outfit.

Colourful Maxi Skirt and Knit Outfits With Chloe Ethel Bag: Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear Link Up, wearing some cosy but colourful winter outfits and enjoying jumper weather while it hangs around here in Brisbane! Comfy knits and colourful maxi skirts are easy outfits for busy days with the kids. Masks worn when out in public as our mask restrictions were extended a little after a few cases of the virus hung around after our 3 day lockdown. We are back down to 0 cases but the mask requirement is sticking around a little longer.

What I wore:

monochrome winter maxi skirt outfit cobalt marl knit chambray maxi skirt chloe ethel bag and statement beaded necklace | awayfromblue

chambray maxi skirt with chloe small ethel bag in light khaki | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue Instagram | cobalt knit with chambray maxi skirt light khaki small chloe ethel bag

Necklace: Kelly's Kloset rainbow layered necklace
Knit: thrifted Valleygirl blue knit jumper
SkirtNoisy May long denim maxi skirt
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bag: Chloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

This was a very busy day! As well as it being the first day back at school after the June/July winter holidays, I had a couple of errands to run and my youngest had his first sports class. I decided to enrol him for something fun and indoors to do this term while his big brother is at school. The trial class went well, he loved it, and looks forward to it each week now. After school pickup and dinner, it was of course more sports in the evening for both boys. Busy but fun!

It's not the first time I've worn this cobalt knit and chambray maxi skirt together - although last time I added a lot of red to break up the monochromatic blue. This time I kept it simple, with a statement necklace bringing a bit of contrasting colour and of course my pretty Chloe small Ethel bag. As I mentioned on Instagram, this bag really does hold a lot. It's got all my usual things, plus a snack for my son, both our water bottles, his hoodie, and his sports shirt. Such a good bag for mum life!

Last worn: rainbow necklace, cobalt marl knit, chambray maxi skirt, Adidas Superstar. First time I've worn the Chloe Ethel bag on the blog as it's a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearcobalt marl knit with stripes, chambray maxi skirt worn 30 ways, Adidas Superstar and dress.

Perfect for pregnancycobalt marl knit and hidden baby bump.

What I wore:

chloe ethel in light khaki with amber maxi skirt and blue knit | awayfromtheblue

awayfromtheblue Instagram | blue ombre stripe knit with orange ocrhe maxi skirt and light khaki small chloe ethel bag

Scarf: Target Simone woven scarf in navy foil stars
Knit: Jeanswest Beth ombre stripe knit pullover jumper in navy
Skirt: thrifted Tree of Life ochre maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
Bag: Chloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

I wore this outfit a couple days before the one above - back in the school holidays, on a wet and rainy day! It meant I added a scarf as an extra layer to keep cosy. With the ombre stripes in the knit the navy scarf seemed like a good complimentary colour and I like the foil scarf against the stripes. The ochre maxi skirt isn't the best choice in the rain as it gets heavy when wet - but it's such a pretty colour with navy the other shades of blue in the jumper. And it stayed dry thankfully as we went to a school holiday workshop, bought some presents for upcoming birthday parties, visited the library, and even got some time in the playground with the kids. The rain set in as we were driving home in the afternoon - perfect timing!

Again I wore my Chloe Ethel bag - the neutral cream goes with all the colour in this outfit so well.

Last worn: star print scarf, ombre stripe knit, ochre maxi skirt, white Converse All Star, Chloe Ethel (above).

Other ways to wearstar print scarf with red jeans, ombre stripe knit with green, ochre maxi skirt and leopard print, white Converse All Star and midi dress.

Perfect for pregnancy: Converse All Star in second trimester.

How You Can Wear It:

Maxi skirts can be layered for mild winter days with a cosy knit, and maybe even a scarf. A bright knit is a great way to add more colour to a winter outfit too, and a neutral bag is the perfect accessory.

What I Bought In June - Chloe Ethel Bag!

Short and sweet what I bought post this month! While I made it through April and May without making any fashion purchases, June ended up much like March - I stumbled across a handbag on eBay I'd been thinking about at a price I couldn't resist, so I made another impulse buy.

What I Bought In June:

I've you've followed my blog since the early days this bag may look a little familiar to you - I had a pink version of this bag in 2012/2013 that I often regretted selling! As mentioned in the video I'd been thinking about it lately and searching a few sites for it, looking at options when I got rewarded at work with a gift card a few weeks ago, that spurred me on to buy this!

You haven't seen this pop up on the blog or even my Instagram yet. I'd been trying to find a place that could fix up the weak point on the strap around the local area, so it wasn't being worn while I was taking the strap out to the cobblers. No luck with that sadly, as I talked through in the video, but at least I have a few places in mind to go to if the strap does snap, ha!

I'm really looking forward to wearing this. I have my "wear twice in the month you buy it" rule for all new purchase that this bag hasn't met, but given the colour I know it will work with a lot of things in my wardrobe. I did get it right at the start of June but between authenticating, cleaning it up, trying to find a cobbler, the rain and our little 3 day lockdown we had in Brisbane recently there hasn't been a chance to wear it before I drafted up this post.

In lieu of a how I wore it, these are the pics I texted to my bestie when I tried it on immediately after it arrived!

3 ways to wear small Chloe Ethel bag in light khaki | awayfromblue

Now hopefully I can copy what I did in April and March and make it through July without buying any fashion items - for my sixth year of attempting No Buy July! While I'm not near the budget I set myself this year I am getting near the fashion spend I achieved last year and I'm curious to see if I can pull off such a low spend again this year!

I'm going to try the Slow Fashion Season #FashionDetox challenge too. Buying no new fashion from July to September. We will see how I go!

Thought this dress was a lovely choice in the morning, but there was the odd gust of wind to catch the hem that had me wishing I had picked jeans, haha.

Coloured Denim: Pink Leopard Print and Chloe Ethel | Purple and Vintage Chanel Bag

Here's what I wore to go to the office on Saturday:
Top: band tee from KissChasy "Bones and skin" tour
Belt: gifted Portmans pink leopard print skinny jeans
Shoes: gifted black slim Havaianas thongs
Bracelets: the usual plus enamel coated Marc By Marc Jacobs Katie bracelet in pink
BagChloe Ethel leather satchel in sweet pink

It was a long day, and dark and rainy when I went to take photos, so another indoor shot. Yes, what I wore to the office on the weekend :( We had to come into the office to get more work done on a project. It felt very wrong going into work on a Saturday! Wore these pink jeans and pink accessories to add some cheerfulness to my look. I've always thought the pink leopard print was too loud for the office, but on a day without a dress code they were perfect. The thongs weren't an issue either - there were a few people running around barefoot for maximum comfort!

Last worn: kisschasy tee, pink leopard print jeans, thongs, Chloe Ethel bag.

Bracelets: the usual plus old multi-coloured bangle set, Indigo Rose Design black leather Swarovski beaded wrap bracelet

Bought these awesome purple skinnies when I went late night shopping after work with my mum and sister. I'd seen them in store and online a few times, but wasn't sure if I could justify another pair of jeans. When we saw them in store this week, they were only $30 so I finally caved and bought them. Such a nice purple, I'm so glad I got them! Dressed up a little with heels as I knew I wouldn't have to do much walking today.

Last worn: lace detail tank, vintage Chanel flap. First wearing of the jeans, and first time I've worn the heels on the blog.

My sister in law no longer wanted this shirt, so she passed it onto me. I think it's great for work and I really like the polka dots. It's got little ties on the sleeves and one around the body so you can pull it into more of a peplum shape. Will have to try that next time.

This is the first time I've worn the shirt as it was recently given to me. The skirt was last worn here, shoes here and bag here.

Liebster Blog Award and acupuncture

Busy day at work! Had an acupuncture appointment in the afternoon - my first session. It wasn't as sore as I had imagined, was really quite relaxing! :) Unfortunately still no exercise on my bike again though, as my knee is still complaining after I pushed it too much on Sunday.

Bracelets: the usual plus 2 freshwater pearl ones made by a talented friend

The wrinkly LBD

My wrinkled little black dress is brought to you by extra long meetings and being stuck at work for 9 hours with no air conditioning. The dreaded clothes wrinkles....

Here's what I wore today:
Dress: French Connection (that has a really nice skirt when it's not wrinkled out of shape)
Necklace: Made by a talented friend
Bracelets: The usual
Belt: Louis Vuitton "commete" Bandeau scarf worn as a belt
Shoes: Skechers
Bag: Chloe Ethel in sweet pink (with puff ball keyring)

Had to wear my Skechers as my knee was throbbing this morning - definitely overdid it on the exercise bike yesterday!

How cute is the little fluff ball on my bag? Got it as a surprise gift from one of my friends. It's very soft and fluffy. Just need to find a permanent place to put it now.

Closeup of accessories:

Fingers crossed the air con is working tomorrow! Will try wear something less prone to wrinkles just in case!
