When I bought these maxi skirts last month I knew I wanted to wear them with stripes right away! Although I just shared about them on Wednesday's Monthly purchase post, today I'm showing more details about some of the ways I've worn them. With a plain block colour maxi skirt, a striped tank is a great pairing.
I really love the colour of this maxi skirt! As you can see it seems to change colour in different lights - it looks pretty similar to the tan bag at first but as you can see in the Insta pic it's a much more yellow tone. I did like the tan Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag with it though. It was the perfect size for carrying the essentials when we popped into the grocery store after church.
Unfortunately we didn't quite miss the storm was was threatening though and I got a little drenched running to the car! This maxi skirt was not fun to wear when wet! Will need to remember to keep it to rain-free days only.
With the striped tank and the block colour maxi skirt I added just a little print mixing with the tortoiseshell necklace. Simple outfit for a stormy day.
My other recently thrifted maxi skirt, I went a little more matchy-matchy with this one and stuck with a navy stripe tank to match the navy skirt. I even picked a blue beaded necklace to tie in with it too, along with the navy Havaianas!
The tan Rebecca Minkoff MAB bag was a nice bit of contrast with the navy - I really like the two neutrals together. Great outfit for the school run and a few errands on a hot summer day.
A striped tank is a great wardrobe basic! It's so simple and easy to wear with a plain block colour maxi skirt, as you don't have to worry about prints clashing. You can stick with a neutral coloured crossbody bag like I have here to let the maxi skirt be the star of your outfit.
Wearing some new-to-me shorts for today's Weekday Wear link up! I wore these after Christmas in two different ways, bright and colourful with some new Christmas presents I got, and sticking to a monochrome black and white outfit for the second time I wore them.
I was hunting in the opshops in December for a Christmas tree skirt, and having no luck I browsed some of the other racks. I was so surprised to see these white Bermuda denim shorts in my size for just $6, so of course I got them! It's rare to find denim in my size, and I'd been thinking about white shorts for a while. With two dogs at home and two toddler boys I'm still not sure white shorts are the wisest choice, but for $6 I was willing to give it a try.
After a relaxing boxing day at home, we needed to get a few more groceries. We always go through bread so quickly after Christmas, making sandwiches with all the leftover ham and chicken! I convinced hubby that we should head to our local Westfield to maybe checkout the sales as well as getting more groceries.
It was a good excuse to wear some of my new Christmas presents too! I love the way this raspberry tee works with the blue kimono, and the necklace was the perfect accessory. I stuck with the neutral white Bermuda shorts and tan Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag to balance out all the colour.
Earrings: Colette statement tortoise shell acrylic oval drop earrings Necklace: Colette tortoise shell acrylic disc tassel necklace Tank: Atmos & Here Oregon stripe tank Shorts: thrifted Emerson white Bermuda denim shorts Shoes: black slim Havaianas thongs Bag: Amerii medium sling rattan bag in black (c/o)
Why I wore it:
The next time I wore these white shorts I kept it simple and monochromatic with the black striped tank. Even picked a little black bag as well, this Amerii straw circle bag was perfect. The fun tortoise shell necklace has matching earrings too and I thought the print would be a cute touch with the striped tank. It's a shame that the earrings don't show up so well against my hair in the pictures though! I liked the matchy-matchy with them and the necklace.
Did a little bit of shopping (and checked out the Kmart clearance sale) while hubby was running errands. We also finally managed to watch Love Actually while the kids were at kindy! We'd been watching a lot of Christmas movies and family movies over the break so I never felt like staying up late to watch a grown up movie once the kids were in bed. It's my favourite movie though and so perfect for Christmas time, even if we did watch it a little late!
White shorts are a great outfit base for anything - they work well with prints and you can also go all out wearing bright colours on top as they are a wonderful neutral to accompany lots of colour.

Happy new year! Kicking off the new year with how I intend to continue, in casual and comfortable mum style (even if I wore these back in December!). Two simple mum outfits for summer days with the kids - pairing some colourful v-neck tees with striped maxi skirts for easy outfits on hot days!
I really like yellow and blue together, and I've worn this mustard tee with another navy striped maxi skirt recently. I love stripes! Thought it was a nice colourful outfit choice for a day with the boys - stopping at the park for a bit of a play before the heat sent us home again!
We spent the afternoon wrapping a few Christmas pressies and chilling in the aircon. It was such a hot day, skirt and a tee was the only thing I felt like wearing. I like how easily a maxi skirt works at the playground too, you don't need to worry about the length when running around with the kids or pushing them on the swings!
With the bright mustard yellow and nay blue, thought that this neutral tan Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag was a good choice.
Another v-neck tee and maxi skirt outfit! Again, wearing a striped skirt although this pinstripe doesn't show up well in pics and the skirt just looks grey. I really liked the lilac tee with it, it's nice with the grey.
Added a little extra colour to my outfit with this blush tassel necklace, I like pink and purple together too and I felt it dressed up my casual outfit a little more for church and then lunch and an afternoon shopping with my mum. Was so good to spend time together, even if it was a little crazy trying to get a car park as it was December! Was so nice getting time to decorate the house later too, it was our first Christmas in our new house so I was very excited and kept wanting to buy more decorations.
I think the studded sandals helped dress up this outfit a little more too, as I'd just worn my casual Havaianas in the first outfit. Although not quite as colourful as the first outfit, I thought the Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag was a good companion with this outfit too - it goes with everything!
A maxi skirt is a great piece to have in your mum wardrobe! The perfect length for running around with and bending down to toddlers all day, and still looks and feels a little more pulled together to go to church or a lunch date! Worn with a simple colourful tee it's an easy outfit choice for a hot summer day.
I'm so close to 30 wears with this navy printed kimono so I've been wearing it a lot lately so I can reach that goal and put together a 30 ways to wear post with it.
Since I haven't hit that number quite yet, I'm just showing you 3 different ways I've worn this navy kimono recently, and some ideas of different colours to wear with a blue kimono.
Wore this for a much needed family day! While the smoke haze from the bushfires had died down a little near is the air quality was still pretty low and we hadn't spent a lot of time outside. Me being sick hadn't helped!
We decided to spend the day on the coast where the air was much clearer, having a picnic in the park before dinner at my parents. It was a really fun day and a much needed chance to relax. Even if we did have to pull out the first aid kits (yes plural) out the car just after we got to the park, the rest of the day went much better.
This v-neck tee is labelled as coral but always looks so red in pics! I like red and blue together and think this coral tee really pops with the navy print. I think navy and black go together well too and these shorts were so comfortable for a morning playing in the park. The Louis Vuitton neverfull is a great bag for carrying all the little extras at a picnic that don't fit in the main bag too.
The tassel necklace adds a touch of a third colour with the turquoise beads as well.
Another shorts, tee and kimono outfit, this one even brighter than the one above! Orange and blue are a bold colour combo and I love the two together. With my classic blue Bermuda denim shorts and neutral tan MAB camera bag it was a simple and colourful outfit for another play date in the park with some school mums, a few weeks ago before the smoke haze got too bad.
Probably could have tucked this orange tee in a little to make the outfit look more streamlined like I did in the first outfit, but with the longer length of the kimono and longer shorts I thought I'd try it untucked.
Something very different, wearing a dress and kimono together this time. I've worn this grey skater dress with kimonos in the past and really liked the combo so thought I'd try this navy kimono with it.. I like blue and grey together, and I kept it simple with neutral studded sandals and a navy bag to match the print on the kimono.
Couldn't resist adding a little more colour though with this fun thrifted magenta statement necklace - it really stands out against the grey dress and I like pink and blue together too.
It was a hot day, and I felt a little warm in this! The dress is quite a thick cotton. Wanted to wear a dress to try beat the heat and look a little more pulled together for an appointment with my son. A sleeveless one might have worked better though.
A navy kimono is a wardrobe staple for me and it works with so many other colours! Red, orange, pink, turquoise or even a neutral like grey are great things to wear with it. You can go big and bold with a bright tee or more subtle with a colourful accessory like a necklace. Linking up with Chic and Stylish, Fashion Files, Weekend Wear, Lizzie In Lace.
Making the most of spring and posing in front of more beautiful jacaranda trees!
I used to be so unsure of how to wear green and didn't have much of it in my wardrobe. I decided to try challenge myself with it a couple of years ago and since then I've been having a lot of fun with green in my wardrobe! It seems like such a nice colour for spring, and I'm wearing it in two different ways in the below jeans, tee and duster outfits.
Wore this for church on a day that turned out to be a lot hotter than I anticipated! I felt the jeans were a bit overkill when we walked out of church into the heat of the day in the afternoon. I'd planned the outfit to stay warm in the cold aircon at church, but wished I'd picked shorts for the rest of the day.
Again I'm using this pretty green floral duster kimono to add a little more colour to a monochrome jeans and tee outfit, just like I did here. You've seen me wear this duster a lot recently, I knew I'd get a lot of wear from it when I bought it! I also knew I was going to stop on the way to church to grab a pic with this pretty purple Jacaranda tree so the floral duster seemed fitting!
These photos did not turn out as well as the ones above! I'd been excited to take pics in this jacaranda-lined street for a while and finally got the chance when we were heading out to a messy play morning, as we pass this street on the way. Unfortunately the street was quite busy and I couldn't park where I wanted so we had to do a bit of a trek back to the trees and I was a little on edge as I could hear people inside the house at this tree. It was the closest one to our car though so I quickly got Mr 5 to snap a few photos and then rushed back to the car and away so we didn't disturb the home owners anymore. Didn't end up with the best photos but I did like the outfit!
If I only shared the outfits or the photos I loved on this blog I'd never have anything to post! Don't get me wrong, sometimes, like in the first outfit, the outfit and pics turn out brilliantly. But sometimes the outfit doesn't come together like I planned or the photos are overly dark and blurry. I'd rather share the good and the bad though, it's a personal style blog and what I wear each day, not a perfectly composed fashion blog.
Again this was a simple jeans and tee outfit, this time around the colour was from the bright green skinny jeans, and I used the striped duster to add some extra print to my outfit. I liked how the green jeans and bag went together too. I wanted things that were all easily washable as the messy play morning can get a bit messy sometimes, ha! Thankfully I stayed clean and dry, while the boys needed a little change of clothes when they got home. They had such a fun morning though, messy play is always a hit.
The boys had so much fun at the Messy Play Monday the other week 💕 I need to step up my game and try more of these activities at home! We've made the mud with green food colouring for dinosaur slime before, so very messy 😂 pic.twitter.com/eMOwKJfKXn
Jeans and a tee is a mum staple! For something a little different, try adding a bit of colour of print with a duster. It's a nice light layer on a warm spring day. You could even swap out your classic black or blue jeans for a brighter pair like I have in the second outfit if you're feeling particularly colourful.
Like every other Aussie mum, I can't resist a Kmart bargain! While the Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag I'm wearing in these outfits is more of a splurge, I picked up the first floral dress on sale for just $12 and you're sure to recognise the second floral maxi dress as an old favourite - even full price it was just $25! These floral dresses are so perfect for our spring weather in Brisbane.
While I've shared this on the blog before, this was the first time I wore this beautiful floral mid dress. I decided to wear it with the new earrings I picked up in the Kmart clearance too, I liked the way the mustard looked with the teal of the dress! I kept the rest of the accessories neutral with my matchy-matchy tan ankle boots and Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag. I loved how comfortable this dress was to wear, such a nice option to attend church.
I did hesitate buying this dress for a second because of the long sleeves - wasn't sure if I'd get much wear out of it this year with Brisbane having such a hot start to Spring so far! I do like wearing long sleeved dresses in summer for the extra sun protection though and this didn't feel too hot at all, was such a nice dress to wear on a warm spring day.
This Kmart tiered tropical floral print maxi dress is an old favourite - an impulse buy a few years ago after seeing a bunch of Aussie Instagrammers wearing it, it's one I keep reaching for in my wardrobe. I'm surprised I haven't hit 30 wears with it yet! (This is wear number 16.) I've worn it with denim jackets before, as it's a spaghetti strap dress it's nice to have a little extra cover on a colder spring day with a jacket.
I wore this out for a celebratory dinner, we sold our old house, yey! We've been in this house we built for a few months but it took a little time to get our old place ready to sell and then listed and sold. A little sad, it was the house we bought just before our wedding and we moved in as husband and wife so lots of memories there - we lived there 10 years! But it was much too small as our family grew.
As it was predicted to rain and a little cooler, the denim moto jacket was an easy option with this dress, and I wore the gold mouse flats to keep my feet warm and dry on the walk from the car to the restaurant. With all the bold colour in the maxi dress, the neutral gold flats were an obvious choice.
I really liked the thrifted turquoise necklace with the coral dress, and it matched the colours in the print nicely. Unfortunately, while cuddling my son as we waited for dinner, he got a bit antsy and grabbed my necklace, and pulled. One of the strings snapped, showering beads everywhere! I managed to grab the string without having too many beads fly and tried to kind of repair it a little...a reminder that I need to pick more kid friendly, less delicate necklaces when I'm out with the boys! I'm glad the necklace will live on for another wear too, as long as my hastily tied knot holds, ha!
A bright floral dress is an obvious choice for spring, it's the perfect season for head to toe florals! You can keep things simple and let the dress be the star when paired with neutral accessories like the MAB camera bag, or add just a little extra colour with accessories like earrings in the first outfit or a statement necklace in the second outfit. Just remember to factor in grabby toddler hands if you're a mum, to prevent necklace destruction!
