Maxi Dresses For The Weekend With Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC

The best thing about the warm summer weather continuing into autumn in Brisbane is being able to wear pretty maxi dresses like these without any layers.  I wore these dresses to two very different activities over the weekend, but they worked perfectly for each occasion.

Why I wore it:

Wore this to celebrate Baby Boy's second birthday. It's crazy to think my youngest is 2 years old now! While his birthday was earlier in the week, we like to have a party on the weekend for them so friends and family can enjoy the celebrations too.

I'll be honest here, the bag was mainly for show! I had my keys, phone and wallet in it so I could locate everything quickly and easily during the party, but I rarely wore it all day. Even though I went with gold and rose gold with my necklaces and bracelets, I think the silver mini MAC still worked.

To make this maxi dress outfit a little more dressed up for the party, I took the time to curl my hair in the morning, layered my necklaces to add a few more accessories than normal, and wore my pretty statement earrings. I love these but have to wear them sparingly as they are big and colourful and so tempting for the boys to pull on, haha!

It was such a fun party, and it was so good celebrating our little one turning two.

Why I wore it:

After a really busy week, I had pre-booked a massage as I knew I'd need something to help me unwind at the end of the week! It was a really relaxed Sunday, grocery shopping, a massage, then lounging around a lot playing with all the new toys Baby Boy got the day before.

With the silver mini MAC bag against the grey dress, the outfit felt a little plain, so I added the colourful green beaded statement necklace. I really liked this outfit combination!

You might notice I've been wearing this maxi dress a lot recently - I'm aiming to hit 30 wears on it so whenever I'm considering wearing a maxi dress I think of this one first. It's at 23 wears so far and it would be nice to hit 30 this year.

Spring Brights: Kimonos, Jeans and Rebecca Minkoff Silver Mini MAC Bag

Although the heat isn't consistent yet, Brisbane is starting to warm up for spring and I'm enjoying wearing my lighter and brighter layers: my kimonos! They are also a nice layer as the summer heat starts to fade, for those in the northern hemisphere.

Why I wore it:

The style challenge for the day was 'fabulously frugal' so I knew I had to wear this kimono again, even though I'd worn it just a few days before. It was a $3 boxing day sale bargain, and this is its tenth wear. Pretty good value!

Picked the yellow tank as it was a $1 opshop (thrift shop) bargain and I thought the colours worked well with the navy. The flares I wore as I scored them on sale the last time flares were big, all those years ago.

The silver mini MAC was nice against all of the bright colours on my outfit, and I chose to wear it as it's the cheapest handbag I own so it fit the prompt nicely. It was about 90% off after a sale, lots of credits and an extra discount code.

Nice simple outfit for popping out to the shops with the boys. I have a specific thing in mind for a gift for a friend but I'm having the hardest time tracking it down!

Metallic Knits, Blue Scarves, Colourful Jeans And Crossbody Bags

Feeling the cold in Brisbane back during July and layering up with knits, jeans and scarves. Keeping it colourful with different coloured denim and navy scarves with my metallic jumpers.

Why I wore it:

This was a big day! It was an extremely foggy (and early) start to the morning as I was volunteering with a friend to help fundraise at the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle. I put a long sleeve tee under my metallic gold knit, as well as my big cosy navy scarf to keep me warm for standing outside all morning. Didn't need to worry though - once the fog cleared where we were and the sun came out I was actually far too warm! Ended up taking the scarf off quite quickly and rolling up the sleeves on my jumper. Sadly somewhere along the way one of the tassels fell off my scarf.

I did like the scarf with this outfit - I like the extra colour the navy print brings to the gold and olive. It just didn't stay on long, as I kept it off even in the afternoon too when I took the kids to the library. I'd added the neutral Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag as I wasn't sure what colour bag to wear with this and was in a rush to get to the BBQ on time. I think a navy one to match the scarf could have looked nice too but given how little I wore the scarf I was glad I went with the almond bag.

Why I wore it:

This is a much more subtle metallic knit! I like the silver foil polka dots on this grey knit, but being a little on the thin side it's not one I frequently reach for over winter. It's so pretty though I keep it around even if it's only worn a handful of times a year! True winter weather is so brief here in Brisbane it's hard to wear jumpers more than a handful of times really.

With the neutral grey I added a lot more colour with the burgundy jeans and the bright blue scarf. Unlike the first outfit where the knit was the statement in the outfit I feel this scarf was the statement to complete the outfit. It stayed on all day too, was a chilly morning for the school run and kept me warm for my little one's sports in the morning and then sports for both boys after school pickup in the evening.

Couldn't resist going a little matchy-matchy for this outfit too with my metallic silver mini MAC. Surprisingly, it's the first time I've worn this knit and bag together - such an obvious choice I can't believe I haven't tried the combo yet! Wore such a tiny bag as I put my son's sports stuff and water bottles in the baby bag to take along to class with us.

OneTeaspoon Hawks Denim Shorts in Spring: Two Ways to Wear

If you follow on instagram you'll know baby boy's in hospital. I still have pre-scheduled blog posts like this that will continue to be published, and he's just in as a precaution. We hope to be home for Christmas!




I picked up my first pair of OneTeaspoon shorts in a collaboration with Glue Store. They are a high-waist style that I wouldn't normally go for, but they are surprisingly comfortable on my mum-tum and I'm glad I gave the different style a try. In a classic black, they will be sure to be worn more over summer. I've shared two different ways to wear them below.

Why I wore it:

Although it was spring when I wore this a couple weeks ago, this day was the hottest day of the season in Brisbane with summer-like temperatures. I wanted to wear as little as possible. Short shorts and a flowy cami was just what was needed when we did venture out of the air conditioning to grab groceries before the afternoon storm hit. The rain in the background was just a small shower before the big storm and the hail rolled in.

It's funny looking back and seeing that the last time I wore this cami I was using it to hide my early second trimester baby bump!

Why I wore it:

This was another style challenge inspired outfit. The style challenge for #RuleBreakersClub was the 'forbidden pair' of double denim. As much as I love denim, double denim isn't a look I wear often. When I do attempt it, I like the denim shades to be as different as possible, so black shorts and a blue jacket work nicely.

Picked the red tee as it felt like a while since I last wore it. This was what I wore for another Christmas shopping trip. I feel like that's going to be the main activity I do in the run up to Christmas. I usually like to be more organised than I am at this stage!

Non-Maternity Maxi Dresses in the Second Trimester and Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC

Unlike a lot of my regular non-maternity tops that I'm quickly growing out of this pregnancy, my non-maternity maxi dresses are still easily and comfortably accommodating the second trimester bump.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

This was such a pretty dress for such a bad morning! I've mentioned before I try keep this blog a positive, light hearted space, but that doesn't mean all my days go according to plan. The day doesn't always match up with the plans I have when I'm picking out what to wear. We were up early to have our traditional family Christmas card photos done. By the end of the morning, I was covered in pee, the baby bag was covered in pee (turns out Cooper likes to pee on bags when he's nervous!) and we were on our way home with the wrong photos.

Of course, the day improved. Things are never as bad as they seem. We were able to go back out and get the photos fixed, the baby bag is machine washable, and I had the chance to try my Louis Vuitton neverfull as a baby bag in the interim. I don't recommend it! I carry so much in the baby bag and the weight in the neverfull meant the straps dug into my shoulder. I guess if you carry less it would work.

We spent the morning in the pool cooling off after Brisbane had a little taste of the heatwave that had covered the eastern parts of Australia. It was nice to get a little dressed up in the evening, the best part being that this dress doesn't really need any extra accessorising!

Waterfall Cardigans, Printed Shorts And V-Neck Tees With Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC

It's been a very hot spring so far in Brisbane but the mornings and evenings started out a little cooler, so I decided to add some cardigans to my shorts and tee outfits to keep me warm. Even if I did end up taking both cardigans off by lunchtime 😂

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

I really like pink and purple together and I like how this purpley-magenta cardigan works so nicely with the neon pink Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag. They were fun accessories with the monochromatic grey tee and black printed shirt too. The cardigan became much too hot halfway round the trail the kids were biking and scooting around so I quickly took it off. Had been perfect in the colder start to the day though.

Nice quiet day with the kids, shorts and tee and Converse was a great outfit, even if the cardigan didn't stay on long.

This navy cardigan didn't stay on long at all! It had seemed like a nice idea in the morning but I quickly realised during swimming lessons that it was far too hot for it, and left it in the car!

I did like the way the navy cardigan worked so well with the navy printed shorts and the bright mustard tee, just was a much warmer day than I anticipated! I like mustard and navy together, and although the yellow in the print on the shorts is lemon I think the mustard tee paired nice with it and was a fun pop of colour with the navy. I went a little matchy-matchy with my accessories, wearing my metallic silver mini MAC bag and also my glittery silver sneakers.

How You Can Wear It:
In spring and autumn, cardigans are great layers to add for the cooler mornings and evenings and aren't too bulky to pop in a bag if you take them off during the day. You can try wearing your cardigans with printed shorts when you know the day is going to heat up, using the cardigan to add more colour like I did in the first outfit, or matching the print in the shorts like I did in the second outfit.

Third Trimester: Maternity Denim, Green and Blue and Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC

In the third trimester my wardrobe options get limited even further, so I'm pretty much wearing nothing but maternity clothes now. A positive to this is that I have a few green pieces I've been wearing. It was previously a colour I found tricky to wear, but I'm seeing the positive side as I've been encouraged to branch out and try wearing it more often.

Why I wore it:

It was actually a cool summer day, which was a welcome change. I decided to get my maternity jeans out again. They haven't been worn as much in this pregnancy as they were last time, due to being pregnant over the different seasons. I'm enjoying my denim maternity shorts but it's been good to wear these jeans again when I can as I loved them so much last time around.

Thought I'd give the green tee a go with the navy kimono. I liked the colour combination, and the kimono was a cosy addition that came in handy for family birthday celebrations in the evening as it cooled down a little more.

As it's the second time I've worn this kimono, and I'm reviewing everything I buy after wearing it twice to see how my new purchases are working in my wardrobe, my purchase review:

This kimono was a complete impulse buy. I wouldn't have paid full price for it, but for $3 I strongly felt I should buy it! I figured even if I only wore it a few times it would be a good cost per wear. It is really quite oversized on me, but I'm loving it. It's simple to wear, it's not too hot for summer, and I love the cocoon style, even if I do sometimes worry it seems to swamp me in photos. I'm glad I bought it.

Returning to my maternity shorts as the summer heat was back. This was a perfect outfit for a morning playdate with toddler T and some friends.

Another blue and green outfit! I'd always heard the rule 'blue and green should never be seen', which is probably why I had so little green in my wardrobe, given how much blue I have in my wardrobe! But I really liked the colour combination in this outfit. A good example of why trying different combinations is a good thing. If it doesn't work you can just take everything off again, or you could find a new combination you love.

Foil Print Tees With Shorts and Studded Sandals

While I do like changing things up a little with my outfits and wearing dresses or skirts and adding kimonos and layers, sometimes you just want a casual and comfortable shorts and tee outfit. Both of these tees have some foil detailing on them, which makes them a little more sparkly and makes me feel a bit more pulled together.

Why I wore it:

For a hot and humid day I wanted some light pieces to wear, and these fun soft shorts are perfect. I frequently wear these printed shorts with stripes, I love the print mixing combination. With the white in the print of the shorts, the white tee seemed like a good idea, following the 'wear the same colour in both prints' rule for print mixing.

After grabbing some groceries, we headed out to our local ABA group catch up. We had a change of venue which meant I felt brave enough to wear white around the boys, as they spent all their time running around on the playground. It was nice as it gave me a chance to have a chat without constant interruptions. The main topic of conversation was the humid weather of course!

With the silver foil stripes on the tee, the metallic silver mini MAC seemed like the obvious choice. I've worn the tee and bag together before, it's a nice matchy-matchy combination.

Why I wore it:

I felt like it had been a while since I last wore this tee, so it was overdue a wear again. Just over 3 months, even though I still feel this is a relatively new purchase in my wardrobe! It's such a soft tee, so perfect for a quiet morning with the boys. We had a very quick browse in the opshop where I picked up some winter clothes for them, then we went to playgroup.

This bag is a recent addition to my wardrobe, you can see the reveal video above. It's a Balenciaga pompon in murrier and I think the lilac purple looks great with blue, I've worn it that way before too. Such a nice colour.

How You Can Wear It:

On a warm day, you can't beat a shorts and tee combo for an easy outfit. It's perfect for running around with toddlers. Shorts and a tee doesn't have to be boring though, picking printed pieces like a striped or polka dot tee or printed shorts can add some extra interest. Foil print takes that one step further and brings a little shimmer to your outfit, which keeping the practicality and easy of a simple shorts and tee combination.
