Printed Jeans and Colourful Cardigans

Layering up some printed jeans for winter and adding a little colour with tonal tee and cardigan pairings. With all that colour I wore my latest neutral handbag purchase, the Chloe small Ethel in light khaki. Comfortable and colourful for some vet visits for Cooper. He's really been a frequent patient this year unfortunately!

What I wore:

Necklace: Kmart rose gold and pink beaded necklace
Tee: Jeanswest essential v-neck tee in azalea pink
JeansSass & Bide Playman skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

This may be my favourite outfit ever with these Sass and Bide chevron print jeans. I've worn them with pink before, and with this purple cardigan before. The black Converse are a staple shoe choice with them. But this combination of all 3 pieces (and that great neutral Chloe Ethel bag) I really loved.

I wasn't sure at first if this pink tee would work with this purple cardigan but I thought if it did work it would be a nice tonal combo, and I'm so glad I gave this a wear! I'd planned the outfit the week before but it turned out to be the perfect thing to wear for another day in lockdown. Instead of the school run and some time at the playground as planned, it was taking Cooper to the vets for an operation and a brief visit to the doctors. The cheerful colours really helped boost my mood! Thankfully Cooper is home recovering well from his operation. I'm so glad the vets were still able to see him even in lockdown.

Pink and purple are a combination I've always enjoyed, and I've worn this pink tee with a different purple cardigan before, and this cardigan with other pink pieces, but this reminds me I need to try wearing the combination more!

Necklace: Kmart gold and navy beaded necklace
TeeCotton On The One fitted v tee in washed poolside blue
Jeans: Portmans pink leopard print skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star coast blue
BagChloe small Ethel bag in light khaki

Why I wore it:

This bright and colourful outfit was again planned in advance. I felt it had been a while since I had gotten these pink leopard print jeans out, and a quiet Friday before the lockdown with not much planned other than the school run seemed like a good time to give them another wear. With the bright pink I thought the neutral navy cardigan and pastel blue tee would be another good tonal combo. Like the pink and purple above, pink and blue is another combination I really enjoy wearing. The Converse were another way to add even more blue to this outfit. And again, a good neutral bag with all that colour, the small Chloe Ethel.

After snoozing my alarm a couple time I finally got up and ready for the day and came downstairs to find the wrapper for a bar of chocolate on the floor, all torn open. Not the best start to the day when I picked it up confused and noticed the bite marks on it - Cooper had at some point in the night helped himself to a bar of dark chocolate. One panicked call to the emergency vet later, and a few tears when she ran the calculations for a tiny Shih Tzu of his weight and the amount of (toxic to dogs) dark chocolate he consumed, we rushed him off so they could remove it from his stomach.

Thankfully he lived to tell the tale, and oddly enjoyed his charcoal medicated food for a few days. And all chocolate is now out of his reach! It seems like an bizarrely upbeat and cheerful outfit for such a stressful day, but I had no idea what I was going to stumble across that morning. Thank goodness he did leave the wrapper in such an obvious place and this had a happy ending!

How You Can Wear It:

Printed jeans look great with basic block colour pieces like tees and cardigans. An ideal way to layer up in winter is to pick tonal colours from the same family for a monochromatic outfit that works with any print!

Leather Jackets and Striped Tee Dresses: Weekday Wear Link Up

Making my striped tee-dresses a little more winter friendly with some scarves and leather jackets, for two very different (but thankfully not too cold) winter days.

Why I wore it:

This was a really fun day! Hubby took the boys for a day of birthday parties to celebrate three different kid's birthdays while I headed down the coast with my mum and sister for a day of shopping. Something we had been trying to plan for a while, but eventually everything aligned and we were able to go. Since Pac Fair shopping centre is part indoors and part outdoors, I thought bare legs were okay despite a little bit of a breeze. This was a really comfortable outfit to wear although when the wind picked up in the evening it was a little chilly.

With the navy stripes on the tee dress and the cobalt blue leather jacket I thought this little peachy Rebecca Minkoff small Love bag was the perfect pop of colour, especially as I was wearing a neutral taupe skull scarf. I really like skull scarves with this striped dress! As it was a rare kid-free day for me I really didn't need to carry much. While my new wallet means this bag is a bit of a tight squeeze with phone, keys and hand sanitiser I just left the wallet behind and took a few cards with me, using it like a wallet on a chain. Didn't need to worry about having any payment methods with me in the end! I did try on a couple of pieces, but didn't buy anything as mum picked up the two tops I liked in the H&M sale for me. Can't wait for warmer weather to wear what she bought me!

Why I wore it:

Was planning for this to be a more leisurely day. We had a couple errands to run and some groceries to grab in the morning, before a trip to the library and then some time at the playground before heading home. Just as we pulled up to the library though my sister called to let me know another lockdown had been announced for Brisbane. It's not as bad as what Sydney is going through thankfully, just 8 days. Given the government hasn't bothered to secure enough vaccines for us these short lockdowns are a way of life for us now! 8 days seems particularly long as 3 days is our usual, but the virus got into a school so extra time was needed to make sure all the cases were identified and quarantined to get us back to zero covid cases outside of quarantine, which we are at now.

The kids were really happy as it meant I let them stock up on a lot more books than usual! We did decide to go home after though, skipping the playground in favour of starting lockdown at home a little early and playing in the backyard instead. Even if our day was cut a little short it was a good morning.

I'd decided to wear this cute striped tee dress as I really haven't been wearing enough dresses this winter! And this one layers well with the black leather jacket. I changed my mind a couple times about the scarf, the one I'd thought would be nice with the little Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody looked a bit off so I picked this one instead. I've enjoyed wearing it with stripes before and I like the magenta of the bag with the purple in the scarf. It was a little warm with both the scarf and leather jacket though and I ended up taking the leather jacket off - warmed up much more than I expected!

Last worn: black printed leather jacket, forest print scarf, white striped tee dress, New Balance sneakers (above), Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody bag.

Other ways to wearblack printed leather jacket worn 30 ways, forest print scarf with purple, white striped tee dress with pink, Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody bag and pencil skirt.

How You Can Wear It:

A leather jacket is a nice way to winterise a dress a little for a warmer winter day. Stripes are a great base for print mixing too, and a colourful scarf can be a fun way to add a little extra to your outfit. A bright crossbody bag adds more colour too!

Metallic Knits, Blue Scarves, Colourful Jeans And Crossbody Bags

Feeling the cold in Brisbane back during July and layering up with knits, jeans and scarves. Keeping it colourful with different coloured denim and navy scarves with my metallic jumpers.

What I wore:

gold metallic vintage knit with Rebecca Minkoff MAB Camera Bag in almond | away from the blue

ScarfFashion Scarf Girl navy Geo print tassel scarf (c/o)
Jumper: thrifted vintage Haneli metallic gold knit jumper
Jeans: Jeanswest Vicki skinny pant in moss green
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB Camera Bag in almond

Why I wore it:

This was a big day! It was an extremely foggy (and early) start to the morning as I was volunteering with a friend to help fundraise at the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle. I put a long sleeve tee under my metallic gold knit, as well as my big cosy navy scarf to keep me warm for standing outside all morning. Didn't need to worry though - once the fog cleared where we were and the sun came out I was actually far too warm! Ended up taking the scarf off quite quickly and rolling up the sleeves on my jumper. Sadly somewhere along the way one of the tassels fell off my scarf.

I did like the scarf with this outfit - I like the extra colour the navy print brings to the gold and olive. It just didn't stay on long, as I kept it off even in the afternoon too when I took the kids to the library. I'd added the neutral Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag as I wasn't sure what colour bag to wear with this and was in a rush to get to the BBQ on time. I think a navy one to match the scarf could have looked nice too but given how little I wore the scarf I was glad I went with the almond bag.

Last worn: vintage metallic knit, navy mixed print scarf, olive skinny jeans, New Balance sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag.

Rebecca Minkoff MAB Camera Bag and Mini MAC Comparison

What I wore:

ScarfMarc by Marc Jacobs bright blue stole
Jumper: Jeanswest Kara foil pullover in smoke marl and silver
Jeans: Jeanswest Harper skinny pant in Russet
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC

Why I wore it:

This is a much more subtle metallic knit! I like the silver foil polka dots on this grey knit, but being a little on the thin side it's not one I frequently reach for over winter. It's so pretty though I keep it around even if it's only worn a handful of times a year! True winter weather is so brief here in Brisbane it's hard to wear jumpers more than a handful of times really.

With the neutral grey I added a lot more colour with the burgundy jeans and the bright blue scarf. Unlike the first outfit where the knit was the statement in the outfit I feel this scarf was the statement to complete the outfit. It stayed on all day too, was a chilly morning for the school run and kept me warm for my little one's sports in the morning and then sports for both boys after school pickup in the evening.

Couldn't resist going a little matchy-matchy for this outfit too with my metallic silver mini MAC. Surprisingly, it's the first time I've worn this knit and bag together - such an obvious choice I can't believe I haven't tried the combo yet! Wore such a tiny bag as I put my son's sports stuff and water bottles in the baby bag to take along to class with us.

How You Can Wear It:

A metallic twist is a fun way to change up a classic winter knit - you can go bold with a completely metallic thread, or more subtle like the second outfit with the foil polka dot detail. With metallics being neutrals they pair so nicely with colourful scarves or jeans too!
