Weekday Wear Linkup: Feather Print Scarves & Pencil Skirts For Winter Office Wear

For today's Weekday Wear Linkup, I'm wearing two similar pencil skirt outfits for work with some fun feather detail scarves. One is a feather print scarf and the other is embroidered feathers. Both are wonderfully cosy!

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

It was a really cold day when I wore this! I know I've worn this pencil skirt recently but I really wanted to wear it again, this time with a cosy white knit that's originally from my mums wardrobe. Even the ribbed jumper wasn't enough to keep me warm though, the taupe feather print scarf was a must have for the cold morning. So were the ankle boots!

With all of the neutrals I went with my pink tassel earrings to add a little more colour, even though it's a brighter pink than the blush of the skirt I think it worked nicely.

Why I wore it:

I felt a bit flustered this morning! The weather was much warmer, which meant me ditching the knit I'd planned to wear the night before, and just wearing a grey tee under my navy coat. I still wanted to wear my pretty feather embroidered scarf though, and I thought the darker grey worked nicely with the lighter grey of the tee.

With having to change my outfit at the last minute because of the weather, and already running a little late, I had a very rushed start to the day, especially after taking the first few photos with my bag facing backwards, and having to retake them again so you could actually see the detail on the Mulberry bayswater bag! Thankfully the day improved from there.

How You Can Wear It:

A simple neutral top works well with a pencil skirt in the office. You can wear a knit if it's colder or a casual tee when it warms up a little. You can add a scarf for some extra interest and warmth in your daily commute too, and a printed or embroidered one is a great idea if your top is a basic neutral.

Soft Knits And Maxi Skirts In Winter With Cross Body Bags

I love layering up my maxi skirts a little more for winter! A cosy comfy knit it a great pairing with a maxi skirt, for maximum comfort and extra warmth on a winter day.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

It was a really cold and windy day when I wore this - as you can see from my outfit being blown around a bit! It was so hard to get a pic without my scarf or hair over my face! I wasn't wearing leggings under this maxi skirt but I kind of wished I had - one of Brisbane's really cold winter mornings - the temps were down in single digits!

Our plan for the day was to go to the playground but the wind and the freezing temperatures made that a very unattractive option! Instead we just headed out on a couple of errands inside the nearest shopping centre to stay warm and get outside the house for a bit.

Why I wore it:

In contrast to the day above, this was a much warmer day! No need for the extra leather jacket or scarf, and I wasn't wishing I'd worn leggings under my maxi skirt. Although I was wearing taller boots under it so my legs were pretty cosy!

Just a quiet Sunday, with church in the morning and then Church Online in the afternoon. I really like blue and red together, and I've worn this red skirt with other blue tops in the past.

It's the first time I've tried the red bag and maxi skirt together though, it was a nice bit of matchy-matchy. Since the red micro Avery bag has gold hardware, I wore my navy and gold beaded necklace and navy and gold tassel earrings. I really liked this outfit, so nice and colourful and very comfortable!

A maxi skirt can be worn in cooler weather and isn't just a summer piece! I've been enjoying wearing my maxi skirts over winter. Adding a nice soft cosy knit is a great way to winterise a maxi skirt, adding a few more layers like a scarf and leather jacket for really cold days!

If you've read my blog a while you'll know I love a bit of matchy-matchyness in my outfits! I've posted recently about matching shoes and bags together, but for something a little different for today's Weekday Wear Link Up I'm coordinating my bags and scarves together, with two of my Alexander McQueen skull scarves.

Why I wore it:

When I thrifted this bright blue knit a while back I didn't anticipate I'd wear it with this magenta Balenciaga day bag quite so much! I really love the way the bag pops against the blue, particularly in a monochrome outfit like this with the navy skirt as well as the blue jumper. Black ballet flats were the best choice with the bright top and accessories!

It was a warmer morning so I went without a jacket - the jumper is a thick knit and this cream and pink Alexander McQueen skull scarf is quite cosy being modal. It's more of a neon pink than the magenta pink of the Balenciaga bag, so the colours don't match exactly, but they are so complimentary they look great worn together.

Why I wore it:

What a day! I had the dentist after work, so I was planning to get in a little earlier than usual and leave earlier. It was a cold morning so bundled up in my cosy grey polka dot foil knit, fleece lined tights and navy mac coat. With my Balenciaga tempete day bag, I wanted to pick a similarly coloured scarf and went with this baby blue Alexander McQueen skull scarf.  While they are different shades of blue I think they compliment each other nicely! The silver ballet flats matched the hardware on the bag and the foil polka dots on my jumper, but I didn't do much walking!

There was a police incident and traffic quickly came to a standstill. After being on the bus for an hour and not even reached the half way mark on my trip I realised we weren't going to make it into the city in time for my morning meeting (then an hour away) so I called my boss, got permission to work from home and asked the bus driver to drop me off at the next bus stop, which we could see just 100 meters away. 15 minutes later we pulled up to the bus stop! The traffic was that slow! Eventually I made it home, only 10 minutes late for my 9am meeting ... after a terribly flustered meeting without my usual hour of early morning prep before it I had the rest of the day to try catch up on everything, before heading to the dentist. Not the best of days!

30 Ways To Wear: Chambray Maxi Skirt

A  new month, a new 30 ways to wear post! It's been a while since I featured a maxi skirt, and I am actually surprised that it's taken me so long to hit 30 wears with this chambray one!

Each month I go through my archives in the blog to find things I've worn 30 times or more to meet the 30 wear challenge, and compile all the times I've worn something into a helpful guide like this showing you how I've remixed things.

30 Ways To Wear: Chambray Maxi Skirt

The first 30 wears post I ever did was with a maxi skirt, but the last time I featured one was almost a year and a half ago, definitely overdue a ways to wear post with a maxi skirt for this series! This chambray maxi skirt is a stunner too! A sale purchase over 3 years ago, it's something I found through another blogger and fell in love with. I had to wait until it went on sale to get this, as I had to budget in the fact that I'd need to have it taken up, being petite. It's from the Noisy May range for tall people so there was quite a lot to cut off! 😂


Cost Per Wear

Cost per wear is a little tricky to calculate as I can't remember how much the alterations were! The skirt alone was just $24.49 and I've worn it 31 times since then, so it's under the $1 per wear that seems to be the goal most people aim for. If you add alterations as well though I would still have more wears to get that $1 a wear figure, but I know this skirt will be worn a lot more in future.

As someone who loves denim and maxi skirts, a chambray maxi skirt was an obvious choice and I really enjoy wearing this!

Chambray Skirt With a Bright Top

The beautiful blue chambray skirt is a perfect pairing with bold block-colour tops! I love a good bright coral or pink tee or tank, or a longer sleeved teal henley for cooler weather. This is such a fun skirt to wear other colours with as blue goes with most of my wardrobe!

Chambray Maxi Skirt With Yellow

Calling out this colour option for you separately from the brights section above, as I love wearing this chambray skirt with yellow! Blue and yellow is a favourite and cheerful colour combination I love to wear, and enjoy pairing different amounts of yellow with this blue skirt - a little bit like a yellow bag, or a larger amount of yellow like a mustard cardigan or tee.

Maxi Skirt In Monochrome Outfit

The colour combinations above are fun to try, but you can also go the easy route and wear a monochromatic outfit with a maxi skirt. this blue chambray skirt is a great pairing for a blue tank, tee or blouse, and as you can see I'm wearing it with 3 different shades of blue here. You don't have to match the shades of the skirt and top exactly to create a monochromatic outfit!

Maxi Skirt And Graphic Tee

A graphic tee looks great with denim - and not just denim shorts and jeans! You can mix it up a little and pair a graphic tee with a chambray maxi skirt for a different look. This is such a nice combination for a hot day, and creates a slightly different outfit from the ones above where I've worn the skirt with bolder block-colour tees.

Chambray Skirt and Stripes

Just like the graphic tee set of outfits above, stripes and denim is another classic go-to outfit for me. there's something so simple about denim and stripes! I like pairing striped tees and tanks with this skirt. As it's a plain block-colour skirt, you don't have to worry about print-clashing when you pick a striped top to wear with it.

Chambray Maxi Skirt and Layers

Chambray isn't just a summer fabric for me, I like to get wear out of this maxi skirt year round. that means adding layers when it gets a little cooler. It could be as simple as adding a kimono over your maxi skirt, or extra layers on a winter day like a cardigan and scarf. A leather jacket works well with a maxi skirt in winter too, particularly paired with ankle boots to keep you cosy!

Maxi Skirt and Knit

Another winter outfit idea is to wear a cosy knitted jumper with a maxi skirt! It's such a simple outfit to wear and so incredibly comfortable. I love being warm and cosy in winter so I've worn a jumper with this maxi skirt a few times. You may need to add some extra layers like scarves, ankle boots and leather jackets if it's very cold, or even a pair of leggings under your skirt!

Chambray Maxi Skirt and Summer Tanks

Saving the simplest outfit for last - for a hot summer day, just pick this light chambray maxi skirt and add a plain or colourful tank. Simple fuss-free summer dressing for the heat! The lighter fabric of this maxi skirt means it billows around nicely as you walk, creating a cool breeze on the hot days. A great summer outfit choice!

Printed Maxi Skirts and Denim Jackets With Amerii Rattan Sling Bag

Enjoying some warmer than usual winter days with my maxi skirts and denim jackets, and my new Amerii straw bag.

Amerii contacted me through YouTube a while ago and asked if I wanted to try one of their bags in exchange for a review - I was thrilled and had fun picking out this piece to try.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a busy day! Church and then a little shopping at Kmart for things for our pantry reorganisation. Now we are all moved into our new house, we are just trying to set up everything how we like it, it's slow but fun progress! As it was slightly warmer when I wore this back in June, I just needed a denim jacket and no scarf.

With the black rattan bag, I thought a black tee and black ankle boots matched nicely and worked well with the colourful blue denim jacket and red printed maxi skirt. This skirt is a summer favourite, but it layers up well for a warmer winter day like this.


Last worn: denim moto jacket, pearl tassel necklace, black scoop neck tee, red printed maxi skirt, black ankle boots. First time I've worn the bag as it's a recent addition to my wardrobe.

Why I wore it:

When we had that brief period of summer like weather back in the middle of June, despite it being winter, I took full advantage and the boys and I headed to our favourite playground to enjoy the sunshine. I also got the chance to wear this side-split maxi skirt, which usually I wouldn't be pulling out on a winter day!

The denim jacket wasn't really necessary, I ended up taking it off as we sat in the sunshine - it was 27° Celsius, so about 82 Fahrenheit. So unexpected for winter!

The mustard yellow tee seemed like a colourful choice for the warmer day, and was a fun pop with the white stripes. Again I stuck with the black ankle boots to match the black round rattan bag. I really liked this outfit.

How You Can Wear It:
Maxi skirts are a summer staple and great for mum life, especially if they are loose and flowy or have a side split to take advantage of a summer breeze. It's easy to layer them up for cooler weather too, with ankle boots and denim jackets. You definitely need more heavy duty layers if you're attempting to wear them on a cold winter day though! 😂

Weekday Wear Linkup: Textured Pencil Skirts In The Office With Brighter Scarves

For today's Weekday Wear Linkup I'm wearing two different textured pencil skirts to the office. I love wearing pencil skirts to work, even in winter, and these textured ones add a nice bit of interest. With the black in them, they work so nicely with my fleece-lined tights too!

Why I wore it:

I really like blue and green together, so I thought this teal henley would go nicely with the navy jacquard pencil skirt. Surprisingly, despite them both being old pieces in my wardrobe, I've never worn both of them together before! I thought I'd definitely worn the cobalt scarf with the teal top at least, but nope that was a new pairing too!

With the navy skirt and blue scarf, I thought my navy mac was a good outerwear choice. It helped the teal henley stand out more too I think! The black Balenciaga part time bag is such an easy accessory, it goes with everything.

Why I wore it:

Another textured pencil skirt, this one again an old wardrobe favourite. Unlike the outfit combination above though, this black henley blouse is frequently worn with the pastel pink textured pencil skirt. It's a simple choice as it matches the black polka dots on the scarf nicely. The camel trench coat is another frequently worn piece with the skirt, as is the black Balenciaga part time bag.

For something a little different I picked this magenta skull scarf to really pop against the black and add a little bit of colour. Much bolder than the pastel pink of the pencil skirt, but I thought it complimented it perfectly.
