Print Mixing: Striped Tanks, Shorts and Floral Kimonos With Cross Body Bags

Just like last summer, I'm finding kimonos and shorts are a frequent go-to option in the heat. To mix things up a little, I tried some print mixing, adding floral print kimonos on top of the striped tanks. I always love print mixing with stripes, they just go with everything.

What I wore:

Necklace: Diva long red heart necklace

Shortsthrifted Jeanswest distressed denim shorts
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale in blue!)

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a very hot and humid day! We took the boys to the Bayside steam railway again. It's a huge set of miniature train tracks and you get to sit on the carriages of mini steam trains and zip around the tracks. One of the safety requirements is closed in shoes, so I wore my Converse despite the humidity.

The striped tank looked great worn just with the shorts alone, but I wanted to cover up my shoulders a little as it was such a sunny day. Like last time we went to the steam railway, I added a kimono on top. This one was a lucky thrift find. I always look in opshops for kimonos but over the years this is the only one I've found! With the red birds in the print, the red Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag seemed like the perfect accessory. Despite the small size, it comfortably held the essentials and the boys water bottles so I had them handy as we went for rides on the train. Turns out that sitting on the back of a tiny train as it steams through the trees creates a lovely cooling breeze too, it was such an enjoyable morning.

After riding on the trains, we walked over to the nearby park to let the boys run around a bit more, but the heat quickly sent us back home to cool off in the air conditioning!

Why I wore it:

Despite having the same outfit formula as what I wore above, I didn't like this outfit as much. I love all of the pieces on their own, this is one of my frequently worn kimonos and you can't beat a classic white striped tank! I just felt it all looked a little off together. I did like how comfortable this was for a morning out with the boys though. We went to the local library and they played a bit in the playground before lunch.

I didn't hate this outfit - there were some things about it I really liked, like how well the pastel pink shorts went with the Rebecca Minkoff peony Darren messenger bag! I will definitely be wearing those two pieces together again!

Striped Tanks Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

Stripes and florals are so fun to wear together! A colourful floral kimono is such an easy piece to add to a summer shorts and striped tank outfit too. It doesn't overheat you but allows you to add more colour and interest to what you're wearing. A basic striped tank is a must have piece you can wear so many different ways.

Plain Tees and Printed Maxi Skirts With Rebecca Minkoff Bags

When the heat hits, I look for simple easy outfits that don't have any unnecessary layers. A plain tee and a printed maxi skirt is simple summer style. And spring style, as I wore these a few weeks ago when it was still spring!

What I wore:

plain black tee, billabong boho printed red maxi skirt, rebecca minkoff sandals saddle bag SAHM Style | awayfromblue

Skirt: thrifted Billabong red printed maxi skirt

BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale in blue!)

Why I wore it:

I adore this skirt so much and it was the first one that came to mind when picking an outfit to wear to meet Sasha. It's so light in the heat and swishes beautifully when you walk, kind of creating its own breeze. The day was forecast to be extremely hot, so we ended up spending more time indoors than anticipated.

Sasha is another Brisbane blogger and while she lives a little distance away from me, we caught up at a mid point in the city, at the state library. The cafe there was lovely and very quiet until I showed up with the boys! In the end we ducked into the kids play area at the library so the boys could run around a little more and we could continue chatting. Always so nice meeting another blogging friend in person, even more so when they are as interesting as Sasha. We spoke for a couple of hours, which seemed to be over in a few minutes, before I took the boys for lunch in the city and headed home.

Keeping things simple with the outfit, I went with a neutral black tee, a red bag to match the red skirt, and my latest necklace purchase to match the gold hardware on the bag. You can see why I enjoy Sasha's blog so much, we have very similar style! Thanks to Mr 4 who kindly took the photo for us.

Why I wore it:

Thankfully this day wasn't as hot as the one above. As you can see, there was even a bit of a breeze! I kept to the simple outfit formula I'd liked so much above, going a little more colourful this time with the basic red tee and navy striped maxi skirt. I accessorised with the baby friendly necklace as we spent the morning at our local ABA group, the topic was baby / toddler massage.

The last time I did a baby massage class my now 2 and a half year old was a tiny little 3 week old, so I was really looking forward to it! I went in with two very eager to help little boys, which quickly turned into me chasing kids around the room in between attempting to practice the massage techniques. I definitely don't do the massage techniques as often as I should, but there are so many benefits to it so I'm going to try do it more often. It's a lot more fun to do when the boys are big enough to give feedback on what they like too!

Stuck with this neutral Rebecca Minkoff Love bag as I still had it out after wearing it a few days before and the grey was a good pairing with the brighter red and navy outfit.

Printed Maxi Skirts Under $50:

How You Can Wear It

Printed maxi skirts can be a little daunting as they are such large pieces of print! You can keep things easy and simple by picking a plain tee to wear with them. You can go with a neutral black like I did in the first outfit, or try something different and add a little more colour like in the second outfit. You can't go wrong pairing a plain basic with a fun printed piece!

Black Tanks, Shorts and Printed Scarves With Rebecca Minkoff Love Bag: Spring SAHM Style

Shorts are a great option to beat the summer heat. When you want to add a little more interest to your outfit, you can always throw on a light scarf. Both of these Fashion Scarf Girl scarves are light viscose which makes them good layers to add. Of course if it's really hot and humid, you can wear a scarf a little differently like I have in the second outfit.

What I wore:

navy geometric mixed print tassel scarf with olive shorts and grey quilted Love bag Rebecca Minkoff | away from blue

ScarfFashion Scarf Girl navy Geo print tassel scarf (c/o)

ShortsJeanswest Tessa olive embroidered shorts
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey

Why I wore it:

Not the first time I've worn this scarf with olive! I really like navy and olive together. I thought the scarf was a cute completer piece to add to the outfit, as the black tank and olive shorts seemed a little flat. Last time I wore the tank and shorts together I added a kimono.

Despite the hot day, the scarf was a welcome addition as we spent some time in the aircon, trying to do a little more Christmas shopping at the local shopping centre. We ended up coming home empty handed, but with ideas for things to look at further, when we didn't have the boys with us.

Picked my Rebecca Minkoff Love bag to wear as it's a nice neutral that goes with everything and I felt it had been a while since I last wore it. A few months actually!

BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey

Why I wore it:

Another basic black tank and shorts outfit dressed up with a scarf. While I did spend a little bit of the day in the aircon at the library with the boys, I felt it was a bit too hot and humid the rest of the day to wear the scarf as a scarf. So I improvised and wore it as a kimono! It's not the first time I've worn a scarf as a kimono, but it's probably my favourite way I've done so.

I think the pink leaf print was so pretty and a nice way to add interest to the plain outfit. Even if I did have to keep readjusting the scarf - this works a little better with square scarves instead of rectangular ones like this. Made it a nice light option for spending the day with the boys though.

Again, I stuck with the classic grey Rebecca Minkoff love bag as it really does go with everything!

Black Tanks Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A black tank is a wardrobe staple. In the warmer months, it looks great with shorts, from detailed embroidered pairs to basic denim ones. If the outfit feels a little plain, you can easily throw on a fun and colourful printed scarf. Draped loosely around your neck for a day spent in air conditioning, or tied as a kimono for a lightweight option on a day you're spending more time in the heat.

Mulberry Bayswater and Wrap Dresses For the Office

I still think a printed dress is the easiest, simplest outfit for work. Add some neutral accessories like this classic Mulberry bayswater bag and some ballet flats and you have easy spring office style. No further accessorising required, although you can always add a bright necklace on top like I did with these outfits to feel like you put a little effort in!

What I wore:

black and white tulip hem wrap dress for the office with Mulberry Bayswater bag | away from blue

black and white wrap dress with Mulberry Bayswater in Oak NVT leather | away from the blue

awayfromtheblue instagram black and white wrap dress, green necklace and mulberry bayswater bag

Why I wore it:

I'm not entirely sure the length of this necklace worked with the wrap neckline of the dress and the tie over the waist, but I did like the little touch of colour it added to this outfit! With the black and white printed wrap dress and neutral tan Mulberry Bayswater and Marc Jacobs flats, a little bit of green through the necklace was a nice way to add a pop of colour.

I did consider wearing statement earrings with this outfit too, but felt it was busy enough. It was my first day back at work after a week off sick, and there was so much to catch up on. The simple yet comfortable dress worked well, for meetings and for sitting at my desk reading all the emails I missed!

Dress: Target Dannii Minogue Petites printed wrap dress

Why I wore it:

Sometimes I find this dress a little tricky to wear. It 'reads' as blue from a distance, but up close you can see the pink, red, black, green and blue in the geometric print. I decided to try mix things up a bit and wear this bold yellow statement necklace with it. I really liked the combination, and I felt it distracted from how tired I felt and looked. I did manage to get a lovely compliment from a colleague who said I looked just like his niece - and she's 20, so I was very happy with that! I think it was maybe the ponytail, or all the makeup I threw on to try look a bit more perky.

Unfortunately despite feeling much better and just a little tired, my voice sounded terrible! I'd started to loose it the day before when working from home as everyone ended up calling me, and by mid-afternoon it was almost entirely gone. I soldiered through the day though, lots of charades and having others speaking for me and managed to wrap up everything from my to-do list before I left, so I felt productive! Even if I did have to postpone one meeting as the person I was meeting with thought it was too much to try make me talk for 30 mins! 😂 They were probably right!

Wrap Dresses Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A wrap dress is a classic wardrobe staple that can work for many different occasions. Mine get worn mostly to the office though! They are a fail-safe outfit option that work for a business casual office like mine as well as a more formal business attire dress code. If you're wearing a sleeveless version like I am in the last outfit, a blazer or cardigan is a good option to keep shoulders covered for formal meetings.

Monochrome Jeans And Tee Outfits With Pink Rebecca Minkoff Small Darren Bag

You might have noticed this Rebecca Minkoff Darren bag popping up in quite a few posts lately, I've been loving it! Mostly I've been sticking with neutrals when wearing it.

Why I wore it:

While I'm trying to be more adventurous with colour, I do sometimes like to play it safe and stick with the classics. With a neutral black and grey outfit, I thought this pastel pink small Darren bag was the perfect accessory. I was pleased by how well it matched with my Fashion Scarf Girl leaf scarf as well!

It was a wet day and I was working from home so I just needed a comfortable outfit to do the daycare pickup and drop off and sit in front of my computer. Jeans and a tee were perfect for that. These ballet flats have a rubber sole too, perfect for rushing around in the rain.

While it is a simple outfit, I really liked wearing this.

Why I wore it:

Since I liked the outfit above so much, I wore exactly the same one again a few days later. It was a much drier start to the day, and I decided to take my new leopard print ballet flats out for a spin. Keeping them away from the mud the boys seemed to find on our morning walk was tricky, but they were mostly unscathed!

As well as the different shoes, I flipped the colours around in the outfit so it was a grey tee and black jeans, the opposite of the first outfit. Again I accessorised with the same pastel pink bag.

We had a fun morning after our walk at our ABA mother's group catch-up, then a couple of quick errands to run. For a first wear, these shoes were very comfortable. I've shared them on the blog before, although this was the first time I wore them.

Jeans and a tee is a wardrobe staple, especially as a stay at home mum! These outfits are a great example of how you can still wear the classic combination while staying away from the blue jeans rut, with grey and black denim instead. Print Mixing: Printed Dresses, Leopard Flats and Pink Bags

When I first bought these leopard print flats, I saw myself wearing them with plain outfits, to let them be the standout print. I decided to try stretch myself a little and wore some printed dresses with the leopard print shoes. Keeping things simple, I stuck with black and white dresses to match the colour of the shoes.

Why I wore it:

I hadn't been feeling too well when I wore this - I'd been to the doctor the day before and was signed off for the day. I woke up expecting to feel better, still feeling pretty terrible. Got myself and the boys dressed and ready and dropped them off at daycare, where I was promptly asked if I was okay as I wasn't my usual self. Realised that all I wanted to do was go home and sleep so went home, let work know I wouldn't be in, and booked another appointment to see the doctor who then gave me more time off work.

I wouldn't usually be so dressed up for a doctors appointment, but I'd planned my outfit before so it was easy to grab and go, and I had started the day not feeling too sick.

Does feel like this was a bit of a waste of an outfit as I really liked the print mixing with the striped dress and leopard print flats, and the pastel pink Darren bag was a cute addition. Ended up taking everything off when I got home and defaulting to trackie dacks to curl up on the sofa and doze and watch netflix!

Why I wore it:

Felt much better when I wore this outfit! Unfortunately, the day was not any more fun! Had to go do my taxes. Not very exciting! We did do a little Christmas shopping afterwards, but came home empty handed.

Since I liked the outfit combination above so much, I tried it again, with a black and white printed dress to compliment the black and white shoes. This time I went with a bolder pink bag, my sorbet Balenciaga city. Perfect size for holding all the paperwork I had to take to and from my appointment.

I did just post this dress recently, but I love it in spring and summer. It's so light, fun to wear and it's a nice length for spending time with the boys - not too short! Kmart still sell them too - they have the same style in lots of different designs at the moment.

Peplum Tanks and Pencil Skirts With Pink Handbags

For something a little different, I paired some peplum tanks and pencil skirts together. It's not the first time I've worn the combo, and I'm wearing it in two different ways below. For a casual work from home day and for a day in the office.

What I wore:

BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

I was excited to give my new tank a wear! My mum kindly picked this up for me in Kmart when we were browsing together. It's perfect for summer, and I could see it working with a pencil skirt and blazer or plain pants as well as with jeans and shorts. Really looking forward to wearing this more! Decided to pair it with my pink Balenciaga city bag to bring out the pink bird print.

The necklace is new too, I picked it up at Jeanswest recently during one of their sales.

The grey pencil skirt was a great neutral to wear it with, although I did wish I'd taken a blazer - the rain set in for most of the day and it was a little chillier than I expected. The black ballet flats were a good choice for the rain with the rubber soles.

Why I wore it:

Similar outfit to the one above, but I wore this pencil skirt and peplum tank combo for a much more casual day so I dressed it down a little with the Converse. The jersey material of this pencil skirt is a great relaxed fit with Converse, and I've worn them together in the past.

Had the daycare drop off in the morning and then working from home before doing the pickup and taking my son to his appointment, so this comfortable outfit was perfectly suited for the day.

I really liked the way this pastel pink Rebecca Minkoff small Darren bag worked with the neutral black and grey too.

The fun chook print scarf was a last minute addition, but I felt it worked well too add an extra bit of interest to my outfit, and a little touch of warmth in the cooler weather. The outfit seemed a bit plain without it!

Peplum Tanks Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

Peplum tanks, like any other kind of tanks, are so easy to wear with pencil skirts. You can dress them up for the office or dress them down for a quieter day at home. If you're in a formal business environment, you might not get away with a peplum tank as you have to wear a button up or collared shirt, but for a business casual environment like my office this outfit formula works perfectly.
