Denim Shorts, Kimonos and Rebecca Minkoff Edie Cross Body Bag In Magenta

Although it's autumn in Brisbane, summer outfits can continue for a while before the really cold weather arrives! Simple tanks, printed kimonos and shorts with a cute colourful Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag are such easy stay at home mum outfits.

Why I wore it:

I really liked this outfit, I thought all of the colours worked so well together. While the dominant colour in this printed kimono is purple, it has a bunch of other colours in it. I couldn't resist adding more colour with this magenta Rebecca Minkoff Edie cross body bag. A neutral navy tank and blue denim shorts were an easy pairing with the rest of the colour. And then a blush necklace, for another little extra touch of colour.

Just a quiet day, doing the daycare drop off and pickup and working from home, before taking my son to an appointment in the afternoon. Such a comfortable outfit for that. I did wish I had picked a different tank in the afternoon heat though - this one is an old breastfeeding one, it's layered with hidden access for breastfeeding and on a hot day layered tops are not the best! Such a cute basic tank though, I'm still keeping it around long after finishing breastfeeding as you wouldn't know just by looking at it that it's a special piece.

Why I wore it:

Another outfit with the same formula! A metallic tank this time, black denim shorts and a navy printed kimono. Again with the same magenta Rebecca Minkoff small Edie bag as, just like in the first outfit, I love how the magenta works with navy.

Didn't like this outfit as much as the one above though - even with swapping the Havaianas for studded sandals, this outfit just felt a bit plain. Was nice and simple for a day with the kids though, doing our usual playground and library routine with a couple of errands to run too.

Peplum Tanks, Kimonos and Denim Shorts: Summer Mum Style

I've been wearing peplum tanks with pencil skirts frequently recently, so I thought it was time to try something different and pair them with some denim shorts. Like scarves in winter, kimonos are a fun topper to an outfit to add a little extra colour and interest.

Why I wore it:

After getting badly sunburned a couple days before, I needed a light outfit that provided sun protection for a quick trip out with the boys to run essential errands and pickup some groceries. This black peplum tank is so soft and just what my sore shoulders needed. It's a shame that the peplum hem of this tank doesn't show up well in the photos as I thought it looked really cute! I was grateful for the kimono adding a little extra colour and print to the outfit as it also offered some good sun protection for my tender shoulders.

I've recently worn this purple Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote bag with the blue printed kimono before - since I liked the combination I thought I'd wear it again, just swapping the white tee for this black tank and a different necklace. I also appreciated the thin cross body strap on the bag being easy to wear without aggravating my sunburned neck and shoulders!

Simple, fuss-free outfit for a hot day.

Why I wore it:

Despite not having sunburn to contend with when I wore this, it's a very similar outfit to the one above. Longer shorts and longer tank, but still just denim shorts, peplum tank and a fun blue printed kimono with a colourful pink Rebecca Minkoff bag this time.

I picked up this peplum tank in the Kmart clearance sale and wanted to wear it another way to meet my 'wear twice in the month I buy it' goal for all my new purchases. Since I wore it with a pencil skirt last time, I wore it more casually this time with the bermuda denim shorts. The pink beaded necklace and mini MAC bag were fun accessories to pop against the blue printed kimono too.

Had quite a busy day. A relaxed morning browsing the opshop after dropping off another couple of bags of donations, and of course picking up a couple of things for myself too! Then had an appointment for the boys in the afternoon. With the heat and humidity, I liked this light kimono addition to my outfit as it kept me sun-safe and didn't add to the heat.

How You Can Wear It:

A peplum tank is a nice twist on a basic tank - just as easy to wear, but with a little ruffled hem to add a point of difference to your outfit. If the outfit still seems a little plain, why not add a kimono for colour and interest in summer, or a scarf in cooler weather. A brightly coloured bag is another fun accessory that works year-round!

Printed Tees and Denim Shorts With Rebecca Minkoff MAB Camera Bag

With the summer heatwave back in January, shorts and a tee were all I could face wearing! Of course I tried to make the outfits a little different by wearing printed tees and adding some accessories: long tassel necklaces and a neutral Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

I was excited to get in my first wear of this new tee that I thrifted recently for just $1! I've been hunting for a good opshop after my local go-to closed down, and while this one is further away, $1 per item of clothing is my kind of opshop. This was a Kmart tee, fairly recent I think, maybe last spring, so it wouldn't have cost much more new.

Ordinarily I'd worry that shorts and a tee were too casual for a specialist appointment (especially with this doctor, she is impeccably stylish!) but it was too hot to contemplate anything other than shorts and a tee. With the black blobs in the print I thought the black denim shorts were the obvious choice, with the tan Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag and gold sandals to accessorise with. As I had the gold hardware on the bag and gold shoes and the pink on the tee, this pink tassel necklace that has a few gold beads spaced through the chain was the ideal finishing touch.

Was comfortable and cool in this all day - from the playground with the boys in the morning, the appointment, and then lunch and working with my mum on something in the afternoon.

Why I wore it:

This day was a quieter day but again I stuck to the same outfit formula. They are the best. When you're not sure what to wear, think back to something you liked to wear and repeat it, changing a couple of things if you want the outfit to feel 'new'. I wanted something easy because as you can tell from my hair the heat and humidity was bad on this day!

I picked a striped tee to wear this time, and as it had navy stripes decided on the blue denim distressed shorts to wear. I really liked the MAB camera bag and rose gold sandals together in the first outfit, so I repeated that outfit combo again, but I picked a turquoise tassel necklace to accessorise with this time instead of the pink one.

For another point of difference, I added the Fashion Scarf Girl hair scarf on my wrist. I thought with the stripes on the top it might have been a little too much to wear in my hair, but it worked perfectly on my wrist. I've worn it on my wrist before.

Simple shorts and striped tee summer outfit, for a morning out with the boys. A couple of errands, a trip to the library and playground and grabbing some groceries on the way home.

Shorts, Tees and Printed Kimonos With Purple Mini MAB Tote Bag

Two outfits following the same outfit formula but with different colour schemes! The first outfit is pink and purple and the second is purple again, but with blue instead. These simple shorts, tee and kimono outfits are a summer staple for me and perfect for mum life.

Why I wore it:

I really liked this outfit. I like grey and pink together but this outfit felt it was lacking something until I added the kimono - the perfect touch! With the purple floral kimono, a purple mini MAB tote bag was the obvious choice to accessorise with.

It was a busy day! We went to a local opshop I'd heard good things about but never visited. It's a little out of the way, but with clothes just $1 each was definitely worth checking out! As usual, I left with more things for the boys than me, but it was still a good trip and we will have to try go more regularly. I still haven't found the perfect alternative to my favourite opshop after it closed.

Of course after spending time doing something for me in the morning, we had to go do something for the boys later. We visited a travelling petting zoo at a shopping centre, and it was so much fun. We all had a great time. I did regret my shoe choice as these studded Balenciaga sandals are maybe a little too delicate for straw and animals everywhere, and when I got a cup of animal feed spilled over me and into the cuffs of my shorts I regretted them a little too! But it was so much fun overall I didn't dwell on it for long!

This day was not as exciting as the one above! Took the boys out to the library, the playground and then picked up some groceries on the way home. I really liked the outfit formula above though, so much that I repeated it again here, just changing the colour scheme a little. Blue and purple is another of those combinations that I love, so I kept the purple Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote bag and switched the purple kimono out for this pretty blue one and the grey tee for a white one. Blue denim shorts and just simple Havaianas made this a great outfit that follows the outfit formula above but created its own unique outfit I loved just as much.

It's taken me a few years to face my fears and buy a white tee, but I'm glad I did, I really like this one from Atmos&Here and it works so nicely with blue!

Printed Tees, Denim Shorts and Balenciaga G21 Hardware Bags

When it's a hot and humid weekend, I default to the simple summer outfit: shorts and tee! For something a little different, I'm wearing some printed tees and accessorising with Balenciaga bags.

Why I wore it:

This tee is so rarely worn. It's a bit bold and in your face, being orange leopard print, but it was perfect for the 'orange kisses' style prompt with the style challenge I was doing on Instagram. It's also super soft and so comfortable to wear. While I wear it really sparingly, I was once again reminded of how much I love it, so it's definitely still hanging around in my wardrobe (even if this is only it's fifth wear in 4 years!). Hopefully it doesn't go so long between wears in future!

With the bold orange neon tee I felt simple was best so stuck with black accessories. Black denim shorts, Havaianas, and my black Balenciaga part time bag. Even though the pendant necklace is gold and the studded hardware on my bag is silver, I felt they looked okay together.

This was a simple outfit to take my parents in the airport in the morning and then run a few errands with the boys and pick up some last minute food pieces for a Christmas party in the evening (which I got changed for). Mid January and I'm still posting December pics, eek!

Why I wore it:

I didn't like this outfit as much as the one above! It was a busy day. There was a threat of a storm all day but we decided to head to the local Christmas markets anyway as I'd seen a stall holder advertising on facebook that I really wanted to check out to pick up the final Christmas gift off my list. Unfortunately, the threat of the storm had meant there weren't as many stall holders as planned and the stall I wanted wasn't there. We found an alternative present, but it wasn't as good as my first choice option, and did mean we had to stop at the shops on the way home to pick up a couple of other little things.

I wanted to try something different and do a little print mixing with this tee - I thought the navy polka dots would be a nice back ground for this red printed kimono. I really like red and navy together. I didn't love this outfit as much as I'd hoped though. The print mixing looked great when I held the pieces up side by side the night before but not so much once I wore them in the morning. Feeling hot and bothered all day with the humidity didn't help me love my outfit any more either, haha!

A simple bright tank and denim shorts is an easy summer staple outfit. For something a little different, I like to add some extra colour or print with accessories. Why I wore it:

This was an absolutely crazy day. Usually on a crazy busy day I'd stick with a comfortable tried and true outfit, but I decided at the last minute to try something a little different and add this pale pink leaf print scarf to the hot pink tank. While it was a hot day, it was a very windy one so the scarf was a great accessory to have. Particularly when the dust picked up.

I had to drive into the city for an appointment and it was an interesting drive - some of the remnants of the dust storm had reached Brisbane and everything was very hazy. Which lead to a lot of questions from the kids in the back seat about why the city was so 'misty'. And a very dirty car -  although I wore this back in November - like everyone else in Brisbane my car stayed covered in red dust for a few weeks!

With the pink on pink, the neutral Rebecca Minkoff MAB bag seemed like a good choice, and it held a few things I needed for the appointment. Perfect for running errands after too.

Christmas Outfits: Red Santa Scarf Worn Three Ways

Happy Christmas Eve!

Like all of my blog posts, this one is scheduled in advance. I will be spending the day with my family. On Christmas Eve we decorate cookies, do Christmas crafts, and watch Christmas movies. Why I wore it:

This is what I wore for our annual pre-Christmas shopping trip! All the girls in the family go out for the day, picking up last minute gifts for others and buying gifts for each other when we see things we have to have. It's such a fun tradition and even if we don't manage to buy a lot we always have a great time!

Last year I wore a pretty dress, but this year the kids came along so I thought shorts were a more practical choice! Added a little festivity to my printed tank and shorts outfit with this fun scarf. The red Rebecca Minkoff mini Avery bag was a nice bit of matchy matchy red too.

Why I wore it:

Another Christmas event, another opportunity to wear this Santa scarf! I wore it with black again, this plain black halterneck maxi dress was a lovely backdrop and really let the scarf shine. Perfect for an end of year celebration dinner with some other mums from my local Australian Breastfeeding Association. I quickly got changed after work into this, a simple outfit but so comfortable to wear for dinner.

As I was kid free, I made the most of it and picked this adorable little Rebecca Minkoff small love bag to hold my essentials. Another cheerful pop of colour!

Why I wore it:

Last but not least, wore this to take the boys to White Christmas at Movie World. It was the first time we've been to White Christmas and the first time the boys had been to Movie World! In December, the park opens for a few hours in the evening to allow you to enjoy the Christmas festivities.

With a big Christmas parade, snow falling and so many Christmas themed activities, the Santa scarf was an obvious choice. With a simple shorts and a tank outfit, as it was still hot and I had anticipated going on a lot of rides with the boys!

Again I paired the red Santa scarf with the Rebecca Minkoff Avery bag - it's such a nice combo!
