Striped Dresses and Converse With Balenciaga First Bag | Weekday Wear Link Up

I have been feeling a little uninspired lately so although the colder autumn weather is starting to open up more outfit possibilities, both of these outfits are incredibly similar! Sharing a simple outfit formula with a striped dress, Converse, statement necklace and Balenciaga First bag for today's Weekday Wear Link Up.

What I wore:

Necklace: Kelly's Kloset rainbow layered necklace
DressAtmos&Here navy stripe tee dress
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star coast blue
Bracelets: the usual
BagBalenciaga First bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

Was excited it was cool enough to get this navy striped shift dress out again, one of my favourites! It looks so good with Converse so they were the obvious choice, even though the blue is a different shade from both the navy dress and the turquoise bag. This outfit did seem a little muted though so I added some extra colour with this bright beaded statement necklace I got from the kids last Mother's day. It was just the right little pop against this darker dress. Perfect outfit for church.

Last worn: earrings, navy striped tee dress, beaded necklace, blue Converse, Balenciaga Blue India First bag.

Other ways to wearnavy striped tee dress and denim jacket, blue Converse and midi skirt, Balenciaga Blue India First bag and blazer.

Perfect for pregnancynavy striped tee dress in second trimester.

What's In My Balenciaga First Bag:

What I wore:

Necklace: thrifted orange bead statement necklace
Dress: thrifted Kmart white and navy long sleeve stripe tee dress
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black

Why I wore it:

In hindsight, a white dress probably wasn't the smartest choice for this day! The kids had a school holiday workshop in the morning and then after lunch we headed to a friend's house for a playdate. We had planned to go to a local park but the cold and rainy weather made us decide an indoor playdate was better! Thankfully despite the rain and the activities at the workshop I was able to keep this white dress clean, but that was more luck than anything, especially when my son enjoyed some chocolatey treats my friend made for afternoon tea while he sat on my lap!

Just like the striped dress outfit above, I thought this outfit could do with a little extra colour, and this orange necklace I thrifted last year was perfect, even though it doesn't match anything else in the outfit. Again I stuck with Converse, as there was a bit of driving to do.

Last worn: white and navy striped dress, orange beaded necklace, Converse, Balenciaga Blue India First bag (above).

Other ways to wearwhite and navy striped dress and scarf, Converse and jeans, Balenciaga Blue India First bag and shorts

Perfect for pregnancyConverse in second trimester.

How You Can Wear It:

A classic striped dress is a great canvas for some bright accessories, like a statement necklace or colourful bag! And Converse are always a comfortable choice.

Orange And Navy Outfits With Turquoise Bags | Weekday Wear Link Up

Two different outfits I wore recently for today's Weekday Wear Link Up, for the school run and working from home. Both featuring navy and orange together.

What I wore:

navy v-neck tee, rust ruffle skirt, converse, rebecca minkoff aqua mini mac | awayfromblue

rust ruffle skirt, Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather | awayfromtheblue

Necklace: terrazzo and wood rose gold bead necklace
Tee: Jeanswest Sophie navy v-neck tee
Skirt: thrifted no label rust ruffle tiered skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather (get it in pink)

Why I wore it:

I loved this outfit! I'm so glad I thrifted this skirt at the opshop for just $1, every time I wear it it makes me smile. Kept it super simple for a busy day with a plain navy v-neck tee and Converse. It's not the first time I've worn this skirt with Converse, it's a really cute combination. Blue and orange work together so well, this navy tee was the perfect topper for the skirt.

The Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag in aquamarine was a great pop against the rust skirt, I really liked that combination also. Nice easy outfit for the school run, working from home, and then taking the kids out shopping in the afternoon to get a present for a birthday party the next day.

Last worn: navy tee, beaded necklace, orange ruffle skirt, black Converse, aqua Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC.

Other ways to wearnavy tee and olive shorts, orange ruffle skirt and denim jacket, black Converse and jeans, aqua Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC and printed culottes.

Perfect for pregnancyConverse in second trimester, aqua Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC in second trimester.

My Blue Handbag Collection:

What I wore:

tropical floral print duster orange tee and shorts outfit sneakers Balenciaga first | awayfromblue

Balenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India | awayfromtheblue

Jacket: Jeanswest Melanie floral kimono
Necklace: navy and silver circle pendant tassel necklace
Tee: Jeanswest essential v-neck tee in marigold
Shorts: Jeanswest Trinity Bermuda denim shorts
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

A very different shade of orange! This marigold tee is quite bright against this navy floral duster. While there isn't any orange in the print of the kimono I think the orange still goes well with it due to that navy background. Wore my Bermuda denim shorts again which have been getting a lot of wear recently! Despite it being autumn and a very wet and rainy day, it was still a humid morning that called for shorts over jeans. I did end up changing to jeans in the evening though when we went out for sports, as it was a little chilly doing school pick up in the afternoon.

Despite the bright orange of the tee I thought this outfit could use a little more colour, so went with another of my turquoise bags, this cute Balenciaga bleu India first bag. I like this floral duster and the first bag together, I've worn them together before.

Last worn: tropical floral print duster, navy tassel necklace, marigold tee, Bermuda denim shorts, New Balance sneakers, Balenciaga turquoise First bag.

Other ways to weartropical floral print duster and denim skirt, marigold tee and culottes, Bermuda denim shorts worn 30 ways, Balenciaga turquoise First bag and pink dress.

How You Can Wear It:

Navy is a great neutral and as you can see here it works well with both the darker rust orange and the brighter marigold orange tee. You can't go wrong with blue and orange!

Dusters & Distressed Denim Skirts With Balenciaga First Bag: Weekday Wear Link Up

I've wanted to add some shorter denim skirts to my wardrobe for a while. This year, with the kids being older I've decided they are a length I can easily rock again so I've added two to my wardrobe! Sharing two outfits I wore with them for today's Weekday Wear Link Up.

One skirt is a second hand buy I scored on eBay and the other I got from my sister's wardrobe clear out as she didn't want it any more. Both distressed skirts look good with these floral dusters!

What I wore:

grey tee and black distressed skirt with Converse floral duster balenciaga first bag | awayfromblue

(image taken by Claire of my new bag buy at the markets!)

SkirtNobody Denim Piper vacation skirt in black distressed denim
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

Cheating a little for the link up as this was a weekend outfit, but I would totally wear it on a weekday too! Dropped by the Glad Rags market that Claire organised, just intending to have a browse and support a friend. I ended up buying a cute striped dress I couldn't resist, and then I came across this authentic Chloe mini Paddington bag. Knew it had to be mine! Such a fun morning, even if I did have to run a few errands afterwards.

As I was kid free (hubby took the kids to the playground) I made the most of it and wore this awesome yet delicate statement necklace - it doesn't survive well with kids tugging on it (it's snapped twice) but I've repaired it and it's too pretty not to wear. Took it off as soon as I got back home to the kids of course! Thought it would work well with the thrifted grey tunic, and it's the first wearing of this Nobody Denim Piper distressed denim skirt that I got on eBay. With the column of monochromatic colour with the grey and black together, this fun tropical floral print duster was a good way to add a little more colour to my outfit, as was the turquoise Balenciaga first bag.

Last worn: tropical floral duster, statement beaded necklace, grey tunic, Converse, Balenciaga Blue India first bag. First time I've worn the skirt as it was a recent purchase.

Other ways to weartropical floral duster and Bermuda shorts, grey tunic and culottes, Converse and pencil skirt, Balenciaga Blue India first bag and blazer.

Perfect for pregnancy: Converse in second trimester.

What's In My Bag: Balenciaga Blue India First

What I wore:

Jacket: Jeanswest Delilah Long Line Kimono in Green Floral
Necklace: Kelly's Kloset rainbow layered necklace

Skirt: JayJays distressed denim mini skirt
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

Last time I wore this denim skirt I made a blue and green outfit and really liked it, so I tried it again with a blue tee this time and a green kimono. I think this outfit was missing a little something though. maybe a navy bag would have worked better. the Balenciaga first doesn't really pop with these colours, or maybe a brighter or longer statement necklace. I like this beaded necklace with this tee, it just didn't seem to add enough to the outfit. It was nice and comfortable but I feel looking at the pics it doesn't look as good as it could have.

The kimono was a helpful addition for the hot day though! We had a couple of errands to run after the school drop off for my eldest and before sports for my youngest. At one of the stores I stopped at I picked up some decorations I'd been eyeing for a while. With self checkouts, even after I asked a sales assistant there was nothing they had at the checkout for me to use to wrap them with once I bought them. Took off my kimono and used that instead, just to get them home in one piece, haha! Unexpected benefit to a kimono!

Last worn: green floral print duster, blue tee, beaded necklace, distressed denim skirt, Adidas Superstar, Balenciaga turquoise first bag (above).

Other ways to weargreen floral print duster and jeans, blue tee and shorts, distressed denim skirt and green cami, Adidas Superstar and midi skirt, Balenciaga turquoise first bag and dress.

How You Can Wear It:

A monochromatic column of colour looks great with a printed duster on top, and suits warmer spring days.

Jeans, Leather Jackets and Colourful Knits With Balenciaga Bags | Weekday Wear Link Up

Back in July, winter had truly arrived in Brisbane and the coldest morning in years had us all shivering, and me reaching for all the cosy layers! A leather jacket is a winter staple, as is a good knit. These thin marl knits are perfect for layering under to stay cosy, and they are cute and colourful too!

What I wore:

Necklace: Roie Designs multi chain layered beaded necklace
Jumper: SES fashions mustard marle knit jumper
JeansSass & Bide Playman skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

I thought a necklace was a nicer fit for this outfit than a scarf - the chevron print of the jeans can be tricky to wear prints with. With it being just 15 degrees (Celsius) on the way to drop my son off at school though I really regretted not adding a scarf to this! It was thankfully a day we didn't have to be outside too much for, with indoor sports for the little one after school drop off and then sports again for both kids in the evening after school pickup. By then I had added a scarf to my outfit though, such a chilly night!

Surprisingly I haven't worn this mustard marl knit with the chevron print jeans before! I thought it was a nice combo, and even with a layer on under the knit the looser fit of this leather jacket means it accommodated the knit nicely. With the black jacket and black jeans I really liked the added black with the necklace - this one hasn't been worn in so long, it was definitely overdue a wear!

The fun turquoise Balenciaga bag was a great pop with the black and mustard too, a nice way to add just a little more colour to my outfit.

Why I wore it:

This outfit was even more colourful than the one above with the bright jeans and knit. And this time around, I learnt my lesson and wore a scarf!

Again I wore another thin marl knit - this cobalt blue one looks great with the magenta jeans, I really like blues with these jeans! And the geometric print tassel scarf seemed like a nice match with the cobalt. The black leather jacket has some blue and grey floral print on it too, but I think it's so subtle the prints work well together. Went even more colourful with the big purple Balenciaga work bag. It wasn't a day I had to carry around a lot with me for - a couple errands, the school run and a vet visit again for Cooper. I just felt like carrying this big bag again as I love it and it's so rarely worn nowadays. It used to be a staple for working in the office, back before we had the hybrid ways of working that mean we mostly work from home now!

Last worn: printed leather jacket, geometric tassel scarf, cobalt marl knit, magenta jeans, Converse (above), Balenciaga purple work bag.

Other ways to wearprinted leather jacket worn 30 ways, geometric tassel scarf with purple, cobalt marl knit and maxi skirt, magenta jeans and florals, Converse and striped dress, Balenciaga purple work bag in the office.

How You Can Wear It:

Picking some colourful knits can make cold weather dressing more cheerful - even if you do layer them with darker neutrals like the black leather jackets. You can let the knit be a pop of colour like the first outfit, or pair it with colourful jeans and a scarf like in the second outfit.

Magnificent 8: Outfits Inspired By A Magazine - Jeans and Blazers

Full disclosure: July is the middle of winter in Brisbane. I actually wore these outfits back in June, when it wasn't quite as cold! Wore these to collaborate with the other awesome ladies as part of the Magnificent 8, where this time around we are looking at magazines for outfit inspiration!

I'm no longer subscribed to any magazines so I checked out a few while I was at the library, looking back to April, May and June 2020 to get some winter outfit inspiration. When I stumbled across this editorial with jeans and blazers, something I love but rarely wear, I knew I was going to be able to make quite a few outfits from it. I actually had trouble narrowing it down to just two outfits. Not having the exact pieces to recreate gave me a lot of leeway with my choices. Resulted in these two inspired by outfits, rather than exact replicas of the editorial.

What I wore:

Jacket: Jeanswest Nadine 3/4 sleeve dusky pink blazer
Necklace: Tiffany & Co silver 5th Avenue notes heart pendant necklace
TeeAtmos & Here white essential v-neck tee
JeansNobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (c/o)
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

I'd been wanting to try this blush blazer with a plain white tee for a while! Carrie made me think of the combo a while back and I knew with the white shirts in this editorial it was the perfect chance to try this white tee and blush blazer combo. As I don't actually have any white shirts, white tees were how I got the look of the editorial without copying the pieces exactly. I even resisted the urge to add a big bold necklace, as there were no accessories in the editorial although the outfit felt too plain without one so I added this simple silver Tiffany one.

No bags in the editorial either but since I actually wore these outfits out (like I do with everything I share on the blog) I definitely needed a bag for the essentials for the school run and some errands. This turquoise Balenciaga First bag is a great colour combo with the blush blazer.

Because I don't have any blue jeans or flares, I went for these equally neutral black Nobody Denim skinny jeans, that are such a staple in my wardrobe. I really liked the simplicity of this outfit.

Last worn: blush blazer, Tiffany heart necklace, white v-neck tee, black skinny jeans, Adidas Superstar, Balenciaga first bag.

Other ways to wearblush blazer and blue dress, white v-neck tee and pleated skirt, black skinny jeans and florals, Adidas Superstar and midi dress, Balenciaga first bag with blue dress.

 Magazine Outfits That Inspired Me:

Jean Pool Editorial from Harper's Bazar Australia April 2020

Images from The FMD - http://www.fashionmodeldirectory.com

What I wore:

Jacketthrifted Zara black blazer
Necklace: engraved interlinked silver circle family name necklace
TeeCotton On The One Deep V tee in marle nep white body black
JeansSass & Bide The Winning Day Lovestate jeans in magenta
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagBalenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

Again I went with a white tee, this one has a subtle print all over, almost like a marle. And my comfy black jersey blazer. Also went with a simple silver necklace with this but regretted not adding a scarf - it was a particularly cold morning. Thankfully after the school run and helping in my son's class we didn't have too much to do before school pickup so spent a lot of the day indoors! I did have to layer up a little bit more for sports in the evening though.

While the editorial is all neutrals and flared jeans I thought these magenta jeans would be a fun statement to make the outfit seem more like me. While I liked this outfit better in the photos, I didn't like wearing this as much as I did the first outfit - I think it being a cold day was partly the reason, as well as this blazer being more fitted. The relaxed boyfriend fit of the blush blazer seemed to pair better with the jeans and be more like the inspiration photos in the editorial. It was a nice outfit, just only my second favourite!

Last worn: Zara black jersey blazer, printed white v-neck tee, silver necklace, magenta skinny jeans, New Balance Sneakers, Balenciaga Part Time bag.

Other ways to wearZara black jersey blazer and striped dress, printed white v-neck tee and shorts, magenta skinny jeans with leather jacket, Balenciaga Part Time bag in the office.

Perfect for pregnancyZara black jersey blazer in third trimester, Balenciaga Part Time bag in second trimester.

How You Can Wear It:

A blazer is a nice touch to dress up some jeans, and you can't go wrong with a basic white tee. Even if you don't have the exact pieces in your wardrobe, it's easy to get inspiration from magazines or other bloggers - give it a go with what you have and put your own spin on it!

Bermuda Shorts And Kimonos With Balenciaga First Bag

Starting to share some outfits on the blog featuring some of the gorgeous new pieces I got for Christmas at last. With today's post I'm sharing a new silk kimono, as well as some new Bermuda shorts and a pretty silver necklace. Simple outfits for hot summer days.

What I wore:

gold and burgundy silk kimono with red tee and white Bermuda denim shorts turquoise Balenciaga bag | away from blue

Balenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India with red tee and kimono | away from blue

JacketLocal Women's Handicrafts gold and burgundy silk kimono
Necklace: thrifted pearl and heart charm long necklace
Tee: Jeanswest Emma woven trim tee in terracotta
Shorts: thrifted Emerson white Bermuda shorts
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

This outfit came together so nicely! I wanted to try a bit of matchy-matchy with a red tee to compliment the burgundy in the mixed paisley print of the silk kimono I got from my mother in law. While I do have darker red and even burgundy tees, I thought this lighter red would work nicely, although it's a different shade, and I really liked the way this turned out! Added a pretty layered gold necklace to match the gold in the kimono print too. While I do have quite a kimono collection, this is the first silk one I've owned! It was nice for a humid day, running between activities with a post-surgery appointment for my son in the morning, a catch-up with a friend and belated exchange of Christmas presents in the afternoon, and then karate lessons after dinner. The Adidas superstar are so comfortable, and like the white Bermuda shorts are a lucky opshop find. Perfect for all the running around we did.

With all the matchy-matchy to the kimono I thought a bit of contrast would be fun too so I wore this pretty turquoise Balenciaga first bag.

What I wore:

Necklace: Kmart silver long circle pendant necklace
Tank: Jeanswest 'Josie' striped back strap tank
Shorts: Jeanswest Heather Bermuda short in black
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

These are officially called the "Heather Bermuda shorts" at Jeanswest but they look so cute (if a little shorter) with the hem rolled up so they are not quite Bermuda length on me! Perfect length for the day though. We headed out for a walk along our favourite trail in the morning, before it got too hot and humid. It did heat up so quickly though so we ended up spending over an hour in the library afterwards. I sat relaxing in the aircon and we picked out some new books for us all, while apparently almost an hour playing the computer in the kid's area "wasn't long enough" for my son 😂

I'm so glad we got to pick up a few new books at the library that day as a couple of days later they announced a 3 day lockdown for Brisbane. With the new books and still some not yet played with toys from Christmas we kept the boys busy at home until the lockdown was lifted at the end of the 3 days.

I've tried print mixing with this striped tank in the past, with mixed results. But I really liked this combination with the white and navy stripes and the bright yellow printed kimono. It was such a nice combination with the turquoise Balenciaga first bag too. I didn't want to over-accessorise with the heat and humidity so this silver circle necklace I got for Christmas was perfect, as were the studded sandals.

Last wornyellow poncho kimono, white striped tank, studded sandals, Balenciaga first bag (above). First time I've worn the necklace and the Bermuda shorts as they were recent gifts.

Other ways to wearyellow poncho kimono with olive shorts, white striped tank and maxi skirt, studded sandals and maxi dress, Balenciaga first bag with navy dress.

How You Can Wear It:

Casual Bermuda shorts are great mum-essentials in the summer heat! Long enough to not have to worry while running around with the kids or attending appointments, in classic black or white they will be wardrobe staples. It's so easy to change it up each time you wear them too by adding a fun printed kimono on top - a nice bit of physical sun coverage when you're outdoors too!
