Weekday Wear Link Up: Balenciaga Bags and Kmart Short Sleeve Tiered Jersey Midi Dress

For today's Weekday Wear Linkup I'm sharing two outfits I wore - both the Kmart short sleeve tiered jersey midi dresses. Like I do fairly frequently despite telling myself I really shouldn't, I have bought this dress in multiple colours. I now own the dress in amber and fuchsia, and I'm tempted by the navy... with the hot spring we have been having in Brisbane a light floaty dress like this is just perfect. I kept it simple, accessorising them with some Balenciaga bags each time I wore them, although one is a little dressier of an outfit than the other.

What I wore:

Dress: Kmart short sleeve tiered jersey midi dress in amber
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black (new purchase)
Bracelets: the usual plus old beaded black bracelet stack
BagBalenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

Wore this a couple of weeks ago, just a few days from Halloween. It was a cloudy and windy yet humid day as there were storms predicted so I knew this dress would be comfortable for the school run and working from home, as it was warm despite the breeze. And with the black accessories the amber dress worked well at being kind of themed for my son's special Halloween sporting class. The kids had the chance to earn lollies doing when practicing their sporting skills which they were very excited about!

My recently purchased black New Balance sneakers were comfortable and helped this outfit stay more casual, as well as matching with the black Balenciaga part time bag and black bracelet stack. This bag was definitely overdue a wear, last worn in March! It was good to get it out again. I did try wear a black necklace with this too but couldn't find the perfect one so went with my simple silver Tiffany heart in the end.

Thankfully the rain held off in the evening while we found our way to class after I managed to get us lost on the wrong side of town after picking up dinner first, but we made it there just on time. While the rain started during the class we didn't get too wet afterwards as I'd remembered to bring umbrellas!

Last wornamber tiered midi dress, Tiffany silver heart necklace, black bracelet stack, Balenciaga black part time bag. First time I've shared the shoes on the blog as they are a recent purchase.

Why I wore it:

This dress was an impulse buy! When bike shopping for Christmas I'd seen this dress at Kmart and decided if I found the bike I'd treat myself, having some money left over from Christmas. Was so pleased to have found the bike and I felt the dress was a good reward, we had been looking a while with the shortage in Australia! Decided to wear it out a few days later to a kids birthday party. Although interestingly it also rained on the way back to the car on this day too as a storm blew in just before the end of the party! Storm season is truly underway.

Wore my strappy studded sandals and my pretty marble statement necklace to try dress this up a little for the party. The white howlite beads on this bracelet matched the white marble on the necklace well too!

As soon as I'd seen this dress I knew I wanted to wear this little turquoise Balenciaga first bag with it - it really pops against the fuchsia! One of my fave outfits.

How You Can Wear It:

A bright, block colour midi dress is so easy to dress up or down. You can try pretty sandals or heels for dressing it up, or a casual pair of sneakers on a more relaxed day.

Printed Shorts and Cardigans For Spring With Blue Bags

I was so excited when it started warming up for spring as I'd wanted to try a few shorts and cardigan outfits! September brought some very warm weather with it though, so I haven't been able to wear this combination as much as I'd like. I did enjoy wearing it when I could though, just a handful of times. A cardigan is a nice way to add more colour to a grey tee and printed shorts outfit.

What I wore:

Balenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India with navy printed shorts | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue Instagram | mustard cardigan grey tee printed culotte shorts spring outfit with balenciaga first bag

Jacket: thrifted SES Fashions mustard yellow cardigan
Necklace: Kmart blue multi-colour beaded necklace
Shorts: Kmart culotte short in navy lemon print
Tee: thrifted Cotton on grey tunic tee
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

These shorts were a Kmart clearance find in January 2019 but this is only their 6th wear. I've done a 30 wears post on another pair of blue printed shorts before, so I have lots of ideas for how to wear these and I'm sure they will get more wear this spring and summer. I really like wearing yellow with them, even though this mustard cardigan doesn't match the lemon print on the shorts I liked the two different yellows together.

The cardigan added a fun pop with the grey tee too, and while the blue wooden beaded necklace matched some of the colours in the print, the teal Balenciaga first bag was another pop of colour that I really like wearing with yellows!

After the school run the little one and I went to the local park for a little scoot around, and ran a few errands before school pickup and then sports in the evening.

What I wore:

spring park outfit mum style purple cardigan navy accessories with grey tee black printed pull on shorts converse | awayfromblue

black printed pull on shorts with Rebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight navy | away from the blue

Necklace: thrifted blue statement beaded necklace (new purchase)
TeeAtmos&Here charcoal grey v neck tee
Shorts: Jeanswest Parker printed shirred short
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight

Why I wore it:

This was a very strange day, weather-wise! It was so windy in the morning we decided to take the kids to the park to fly their kite. However when the wind wasn't blowing it was really warm and sunny. I debated on shorts or jeans and in the end decided a cardigan and printed shorts combo would be perfect instead. I really enjoyed wearing this, this cardigan was nice to block some of the wind but not so thick that I felt overheated in the sun.

I like blue and purple together, so with the monochromatic grey tee and black pull on printed shorts I thought I'd add some navy blue accessories. The recently thrifted beaded necklace pairs really nicely with the Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag, and I like the way the navy works with the purple cardigan.

Nice comfortable outfit for a quiet Saturday.

How You Can Wear It:

Early spring days where it's warm enough for bare legs or bare arms but not both together is perfect weather for a cute pair of printed shorts and a light cardigan. Adding a cardigan is a good way to bring more colour to your outfit too.

Yellow and Turquoise With Neutral Skinny Jeans Outfits

For today's Weekday Wear Link up, two outfits with similar colour schemes of mustard yellow and turquoise, but two very different resulting outfits. One I needed to layer a little more than the other, as winter draws to an end here in Queensland and we get a mix of warmer and cooler days before spring official starts in September.

What I wore:

turquoise and mustard yellow tee skinny jeans and floral duster kimono outfit | away from the blue

Balenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India turquoise moto bag | away from blue

Jacket: Jeanswest Melanie floral kimono
NecklaceRoie Designs feather, quartz and love charm long necklace
Tee: Big W mustard v-neck tee
JeansNobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (c/o)
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

With the suddenly warmer weather I wanted to get one of my kimonos out again! This duster one is great as it has longer sleeves that I appreciated doing the school drop off in the morning when it was a bit cooler. It was really warm in the afternoon though and I was glad it's not too thick a fabric!

I've worn it with yellow before, but it's the first time I've paired this mustard tee with it and I really liked the combination. The turquoise Balenciaga first bag is something I've accessorised this kimono with before though, such a fun way to wear even more colour to the already colourful print.

These Nobody Denim skinny jeans are a firm favourite as they go with everything and with the comfortable stretch in them they were perfect for a day of working from home with the school run and an afternoon specialists appointment.

What I wore:

mustard cardigan with monochrome grey skinny jeans and tee outfit, converse, skull scarf and Balenciaga first bag | awayfromblue

Jeans: Jeanswest Cecile dove grey skinny jeans

Why I wore it:

This was a busy day, with an early appointment for my youngest right after school drop off. I had to drive into the city for it and although I know some work places are back it was still busier than I expected on the drive in.

As it was a bit of a chilly morning I took advantage of needing to layer by adding some colourful pieces to an otherwise monochrome outfit. It's the first time I've worn this grey tee and the grey skinny jeans together but they were a great outfit base for the teal and turquoise Alexander McQueen skull scarf and the mustard cardigan. I liked how the turquoise skulls matched the Balenciaga first bag too.

Last wornmustard cardigan, teal skull scarf, grey v neck tee, grey skinny jeans, Converse (above), Balenciaga turquoise first bag (above).

How You Can Wear It:

Yellow and blue look great together, and turquoise and mustard are a nice example of that. With a bold colour combo you can keep the rest of your outfit neutral like I did in the second outfit with the monochrome grey, or add even more colour with a bright printed piece like the kimono in the first outfit.

How Things Have changed (And What I've been Buying!) : Isolation and Working From Home With Kids

With the schools closed, working from home and parenting and teaching a 4 and 5 year old, things are a lot different now than they were at the start of the year! If you're coming to my blog just for an escape I apologise for how much this post discusses the impacts of the coronavirus! I am trying to keep it outfit focused and make this my regular break into fashion and frivolity, but the truth is the virus has impacted life so much.

I'm sharing two outfits I wore back when I was working from home while the schools were open, so I did the school run. It was a crazy week with a lot of unknowns in Australia about if and how school would continue, so I wanted to be comfortable and wear things to try cheer me up a little as I worked from home and counted down the hours until I could pick my boys up!

Also thought I'd share with you what I've been buying lately. Definitely no fashion spending - aside from the two things I mentioned in this post - but a lot of things to prepare for home isolation with kids. We are in a new world where I have to ensure my kids are learning at home every day as well as working from home myself 3 days a week. I'm blessed to still have my job, but the juggle is hard!

What I wore:

Tee: Life Church Online "Come change the world with me at Church Online" tee
Skirtthrifted Billabong 'Don't Think Of It' bikini red printed maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

For over 9 years now I've been volunteering at Life Church Online. We have a great group in Brisbane that meets up to stream the service together, and every Sunday night I hop online to help at another one of those services. With the news about churches needing to close, and understandably no more Brisbane catch ups, I wanted to wear my Church Online tee. Faith over fear I guess! And a reminder to myself that no matter what is happening in the world, some things like God's love and my regular Sunday online services, stay the same!

Wore my red maxi skirt with this as it was a bit of a cooler day and this felt more comfortable than jeans for working at home during the day. It, along with the turquoise Balenciaga first bag, were easy ways to add more colour to the black and white tee too.

Last worn: red maxi skirt, Balenciaga first bag, Havaianas. First time I've worn the church online tee on the blog.

Other ways to wearred maxi skirt and scarf, Balenciaga first bag and pencil skirt.

What I've Been Buying For Home Isolation:

I've been buying a lot lately. I'm an emotional shopper and while I'm not splurging on fashion items or stockpiling food, I'm thinking about what could be 6 months at home and how we will amuse and teach the kids in these times. We don't often do screen time, just a weekly family movie night and maybe a Daniel Tiger or Bluey episode once during the week, so I have been looking for things other than apps. As a bonus, most of the items I'm sharing are from local Aussie mum owned businesses, so your purchase helps their family as it entertains your own!

Little Birdie Books

Fun book boxes with activity and game ideas (and all the materials you need!) based on the books in the box. You can buy one off book boxes or subscribe to get a steady stream of books and activities. Started by two Aussie mums and speech pathologists, the books and activities are aimed at helping your kids develop essential skills. You can see what I got in a previous box in my YouTube review. I learnt about this company after friending one of the founders on Instagram.

Keeping Kids Busy

This company had been on my radar for a while - a local Aussie mum takes all the guesswork out of travel (or isolation!) by packing a bag filled with activities to keep any age kid entertained. Low mess but high fun bags. My boys got these as bumper "party bags" from my parents after we had to cancel my son's birthday party when the government social distancing restrictions came into place. The things in the bags are still being played with now, just today even. Found this company through a Facebook group, and you can get 15% off this weekend with code EASTER15!

Kids Craft Box

Another Aussie mum owned business, based in WA, who ships a box of crafting materials and activities across the nation, with different themed boxes available. She has special discounts on her Instagram page often, and has a sibling box option to reduce costs which is what I bought for the boys. I "met" this lovely lady through YouTube a couple of years ago.

Messy Play Kits

My kids have been going to these messy play sessions since they were tiny, and now you can order a box of messy play activities to entertain the kids at home! Janelle is a local Aussie mum who is diversifying her business and offering do it yourself packs instead of hosting the big parties she usually does. I'm so glad to have connected with her through playgroup, we have tried a few of her activities we've seen at the sessions at home too over the years!

Activity Books

From anywhere I can find them in stock! Think sticker books, Easter themes, puzzle books and educational workbooks or wipe-clean books. Kmart had a good range but I know stock is really low at the moment.

Printables

There are a few educational sites around with freebies at the moment due to the virus, where you just print the activity pages you think would be helpful for your kids. Some are even created by teachers, for teachers. You could also ask your child's teacher for some ideas if they haven't already provided some. Queensland Education department has a good list of sites too.

There are no affiliate links in these product suggestions and this post was not sponsored in any way. I'm just trying to be supportive and share a list that's useful for a parent if they find that like me, all my time is filled with working, playing with the kids, or worrying about what activities to do with the kids next. I've been visiting fashion blogs less as a result of trying to come up with a learn at home plan for the kids but I'm trying to continue my two posts a week goal here.

Also, if you're an Australian parent, Triple P Parenting (Positive Parenting Program) is now free and has a helpful module, guide and tips for parenting during COVID-19.

What I wore:

TeeLife Church Online "Go online reach the world" graphic tee
Skirt: Jeanswest Luxe jersey maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

A very similar outfit to the one above, another Church Online tee with a maxi skirt. I like the "go online, reach the world" message on this one as it's so true! And I'm so glad for the internet at a time like this, and technology to keep in touch with all my family despite the travel restrictions.

Stuck with the same bright Balenciaga first bag as I thought the grey tee and black maxi skirt needed a little extra colour, even with the yellow print on the tee. It was clear this would be my kids last day at school and kindy for a while, so that was bittersweet when I picked them up at the end of my work from home day.

Last worn: black drawstring maxi skirt, Havaianas (above), Balenciaga first bag (above).

Other ways to wearblack drawstring maxi skirt worn two ways, Balenciaga first bag and shorts.

How You can Wear It:

A graphic tee is a simple outfit choice with a maxi skirt - and so incredibly comfortable for working from home, while being presentable enough for any video calls!

It will be a very different Easter break but no matter what you are wearing: stay safe, wash your hands and stay home as much as you can as you watch your church Easter service online.

Casual and Business Casual Dresses With Balenciaga First Bag : Weekday Wear Link Up

Two very different outfits for today's Weekday Wear link up! Taken just 3 weeks apart in March, the world changed so much in those weeks!

What I wore:

Balenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India | away from the blue

JacketJeanswest grey jersey blazer
Necklace: Colette marble and gold pendant drop long necklace
Dress: Jeanswest deep pink ruffle neckline dress
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs logo plaque flats in camel
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

This was my last office outfit before things started changing in Australia. At the end of the day I'd packed up my desk and said farewell to my colleagues, reminding them I'd not be in next week as I had a training course, but that I'd be in the next again week. During the week of training there were a lot of massive changes in Australia and at work, and I've not been back in the office since.

I've been working from home for a few weeks now and I'm missing outfits like this - the simplicity of a cute dress and a blazer to dress it up a little for a business environment. I really like this berry dress. Even though it looks red in every picture, it's such a fun dress to wear and I thought the turquoise Balenciaga first bag really popped with it. As the dress and bag were bold I went for neutral accessories with the grey blazer and the tan ballet flats.

Of course now my blazers are hanging unworn in my wardrobe (and I even have a recently purchased one that I've not been able to wear yet) while I work from home and only make trips out for the essentials.

Last worn: grey jersey blazer, berry ruffle dress, marble necklace, camel ballet flats, Balenciaga first bag.

Other ways to wear grey jersey blazer and printed dress, berry ruffle dress and jacquard jacket, camel ballet flats and jeans, Balenciaga first bag and maxi dress.

Perfect for pregnancy camel ballet flats in third trimester.

ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

This is a much more casual dress outfit. Unlike the first outfit where I was trying to dress up a bit for the office, I dressed down for this outing to the grocery store. I'd picked this fun striped tee dress as it is an easy instant outfit, and easy to remove as soon as I got home, to avoid bringing germs into the house.

The New Balance sneakers actually went really well with this dress to create a sporty outfit! I'd been trying to ease back into normal shoes again but with being unable to travel to my physio safely my knee pain requires me to keep things simple and supportive, so it's back to these shoes. Having them as my outdoor shoe makes it easier to prevent germ spread on the shoe rack too, if I'm just wearing these! It's funny the things we think about now!

The Balenciaga first bag was a fun pop with the black and white dress, and I picked this bag to wear again as I'd worn it on a previous outing - again trying to minimise what items I take outside. I did notice that I kept going to play with this necklace as I walked around the nearly empty shelves at the supermarket, so I'm now doing a no necklace policy when I do venture out. 😂

It's probably a little overkill all of these changes, especially when I didn't even think about these things a few weeks ago back when I was still in the office, but I'm just doing what I can to keep us and the kids as safe as possible.

3 Navy Tees And Bright Jeans Outfits With Balenciaga Bags: Weekday Wear Link Up

Trying to keep life as normal as possible, we still have the Weekday Wear Link up this week! I won't post again until Friday though, I'm skipping Wednesday's post.

Recently I took advantage of some of the cooler, slightly more autumn like weather in Brisbane to wear some of my colourful skinny jeans. Jeans are a mum staple and while I'm trying to stay away from the blue jeans rut I do love a bright pair of jeans to mix it up a little! Bright jeans are perfect for spring, or a little extra colour on a wet autumn day when you're on a training course which is when I wore these.

What I wore:

JeansSass & Bide The Winning Day Lovestate Jeans in magenta (new purchase)
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats
BagBalenciaga raisin purple 2009 giant silver G21 hardware work bag

Why I wore it:

When I saw these magenta jeans I knew I'd be wearing them with all the blue in my wardrobe! I have a magenta bag I love so it was a no brainier when I saw these jeans on eBay. Already a bargain price, I ended up getting them for free. I tried to sum up the very long story in my shopping haul post.

Although the magenta jeans are pretty bright the neutral cream and metallic jacquard jacket balanced them out nicely I thought, and so I added more colour with other accessories. I really like pink and purple and blue together so this big purple Balenciaga work bag was an obvious choice, and I added the turquoise beaded statement necklace for something a little different.

This necklace has had a bit of a history, with it falling apart when my son grabbed onto it at dinner one day. I've repaired it and it was hanging together okay, but when trying to grab my umbrella out my bag and unwrap it the hook got caught on the necklace and there was no coming back from that! It was $3 at the opshop and I did get 4 wears from it so not too bad, but still disappointing!

Last worn: jacquard blazer, turquoise beaded necklace, navy tank, purple Balenciaga work bag, silver ballet flats. It's the first time I've worn the jeans on the blog as they are a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearjacquard blazer and little black dress, navy tank and shorts, purple Balenciaga work bag worn 30 ways, silver ballet flats and floral dress.

Why I wore it:

Another classic go to of mine - red and blue! I thought this navy tee was a good choice with these burgundy jeans. I bought these jeans back at the start of the year when Jeanswest was possibly closing down and I had to get myself a pair of their perfectly fitting jeans, in case it was my last pair! Thankfully the chain is staying around, although they have closed a lot of stores. I was pleased to give these jeans another wear with the cooler weather.

Again I added a bright Balenciaga bag for a little extra colour. With the black blazer and ballet flats I thought the turquoise Balenciaga first bag was a fun pop of colour, and it works so well with the navy and burgundy.

Last worn: Zara blazer, navy statement necklace, navy marle tee, burgundy skinny jeans, black ballet flats, Balenciaga blue India first bag.

Why I wore it:

Blue and green is a combination I've only recently been trying, as I've slowly been adding green to my wardrobe over the past few years. These thrifted green jeans are getting a lot more wear than I expected, this is their 18th wear and I've only owned them 19th months. Since I don't wear jeans over summer that's a pretty good repeat rate!

Again I dressed up the casual jeans and tee outfit a bit with a statement necklace (this crystal one always gets compliments) and a boucle blazer. I thought the silver ballet flats worked well with the crystal in the necklace and the silver hardware on the Balenciaga day bag.

Last worn: boucle blazer, crystal statement necklace, navy tee, green skinny jeans, silver ballet flats (above), Balenciaga tempete day bag.

Bright Jeans Under $50:
