Neutral Dresses, Colourful Beaded Necklaces and Chloe Paraty Bag: Weekday Wear Link Up

Adding a little festive colour to some neutral dresses with red and green necklaces. I love the simplicity of a cute little dress and some bright accessories in spring.

NecklaceStarfish Project Hannah turquoise bead necklace
Dress: Kmart Aztec print tiered little black dress
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual plus Polka Luka resin bangles in red and teal
BagChloe periwinkle small Paraty

Why I wore it:

It's been far too long since I last wore this dress. When I wore it on this day I was reminded why I love it so much! It is an awesome summer sundress, but layers well. With the slightly cooler day I added the white denim jacket at the last minute that morning and it was perfect.

After the school drop off, we decided to stop off at one of my favourite opshops before our regular library visit. They have clothes for just $1 and I scored an awesome little fuchsia linen dress for $1 that retailed for $25. Wearing and loving this dress again made me see I needed more dresses in my wardrobe, and for just $1 I wasn't going to leave it behind! I picked up a couple more colourful statement beaded necklaces too.

With the black dress and very subtle white print I wanted to add a little more colour - this green necklace is perfect for adding a burst of colour and works so well with the teal and red resin bracelets to make it just ever so slightly festive. I'm going to have to try this accessory combination again with my other black dresses! I've worn this dress and necklace together before too.

While the Adidas Superstar match the dress and jacket perfectly with the black and white, the periwinkle Chloe Paraty bag doesn't match anything. I still thought it worked with this outfit to add a touch more colour without being too much with the green and little bit of red.

Last worn: white denim jacket, green beaded necklace, resin bracelets, black tiered sundress, Adidas Superstar, Chloe periwinkle Paraty bag.

Why I wore it:

This was again a cooler day. I considered adding a jacket in the morning but didn't, and regretted it when it got really cloudy! A denim jacket or kimono would have been a good topper with this dress. It was okay for the school run, sports and a playdate with the little one, but for sports in the evening with both kids after school pickup I definitely changed into something warmer!

I loved the red necklace against the grey dress - it's such a nice pop of colour with the big statement beads. I thought that the Chloe Paraty bag would again be a nice non-matchy choice, just like it was in the outfit above. With the light grey of the dress though when I saw the photos I thought a different bag with a bigger contrast would have worked better here. Last time I wore this dress and bag together I didn't notice because I had a purple cardigan between them. Maybe I should have gone matchy-matchy with a red bag this time around.

Last worn: red statement necklace, grey skater dress, Converse, Chloe small Paraty bag (above).

Other ways to wear: grey skater dress and leggings, Converse and striped dress, Chloe small Paraty bag and maxi skirt.

How You Can Wear It:

A neutral dress is a great wardrobe staple as it's easy to change up the look of it each time you wear it with different accessories. A bright beaded statement necklace in a bold colour is the simplest way to change it up.

30 Ways To Wear: Sass and Bide Chevron Print Playman Skinny Jeans

These Sass and Bide Playman skinny jeans have such a fun print! Sometimes the bold chevron can seem a little tricky to wear. While I don't quite love every one of the 32 outfits I've worn with them, I've really been reaching for them a lot more often this past year as I feel I'm finding the best ways to style them recently. It's great to be able to put this 30 ways to wear post together and share just how versatile printed jeans can be - you can definitely rewear them over and over!

30 Ways To Wear: Sass & Bide Chevron Print Skinny Jeans

30 ways to wear black and grey chevron print skinny jeans Sass Bide Playman skinnies | away from the blue blog

Cost Per Wear

I bought these in June 2016, a second hand buy on eBay. Just $28.50, including postage. Not a bad price for Sass and Bide jeans, and at 32 wears that's just 95 cents a wear so far. I think perhaps the original seller had a few of the same "what do I wear these with" struggles I did in the early years! I've tried print mixing now and then, but over time I've realised if I keep it simple and stick to basic block colour pieces with these jeans I really love them in my outfits.

It's taken me 5 years to get over 30 wears with these jeans. They are certainly not just "throw on and go" jeans, and do require a little more thought before I wear them. But they are so fun, and I still have so many outfit ideas for these. They are definitely keepers in my wardrobe even if it took me a couple years to recognise just how versatile they could be! Particularly this current year. I felt like they were on frequent repeat, as I stuck with the "pair solids with prints" rule to build outfits I loved.

Since I  have such a range of outfits with these jeans I've tried to split up the outfits into go-to outfit formulas as well as some easy colour pairings, in case you have a similar pair of grey and black printed jeans you're trying to find outfit inspiration for.

Chevron Print Jeans With Blue and Green

blue and green outfit ideas with chevron print sass bide jeans | awayfromtheblue

Blue is my favourite colour and of course I think it goes with everything! I am slowly warming up to green and trying to wear more of it in my wardrobe. With the neutral black and grey chevron print of the jeans a bright blue, teal, or even mint top works well against the print.

Colourful Cardigans and Chevron Print Skinny Jeans

Colourful cardigans with black and grey printed skinny jeans outfit ideas | awayfromblue

Just like the colourful blue and green outfits above, these follow a similar outfit formula. This time, the bright block colour is the cardigan though! While I really like the bold combination of red with the black and grey, you'll see I wear quite a lot of pink and purple with these jeans too!

Neutral Layers With Black and Grey Chevron Jeans

neutral layers to chevron print skinny jeans outfits | awayfromtheblue

A failsafe "I'm not sure what to wear with a bold printed piece" choice is neutrals! And while I can never seem to nail a completely monochromatic outfit as I always add in a little extra colour - these jeans look so good with neutral blacks and greys, echoing the colours in the print.

Citrus Brights With Chevron Print Jeans

4 ways to wear chevron print skinny jeans with citrus brights yellow and orange | awayfromtheblue

Another much more colourful set of outfits! Similar to the blues and greens I first shared, I find different shades of citrus brights work well with these jeans - from a bright mustard yellow, a more pastel peach, a mango yellow or a bold bright orange, the colours really pop against the denim! I think that the grey chevron print on these jeans helps stop an orange and black combo from looking too Halloween-y as well.

Double Denim Outfits With Printed Jeans

double denim outfit ideas with sass bide printed skinny jeans | awayfromblue

My usual method for waring double denim is to keep it safe and stick to completely different shades - so blue denim jackets (and even my white one) work well with these printed jeans! It's good to stick a bright top in between too for even more contrast between the different shades of denim.

Bright Accessories With Chevron Print Jeans

outfit ideas for chevron print jeans with bright accessories | awayfromblue

Maybe bright tops and cardigans are a little too bold for you to try with some statement printed jeans like these. So why not introduce a smaller amount of colour with a scarf or bag? Or both - as I've done in the first and third outfits with the matchy-matchy scarf and bag. Of course if you're loving all the colour, you could try a bright cardigan and a bright scarf together like that outfit at the end there.

Leather Jackets With Black and White Printed Jeans

leather jackets and chevron print jeans winter outfit ideas | awayfromblue

These jeans are so easy to layer up in winter - printed jeans and a leather jacket is a staple outfit for a cold day! You don't have to stick to black jackets either - a colourful one like that cobalt blue works well too.

Pink And Purple Outfits With Chevron Print Jeans

pink and purple outfit ideas with chevron print playman skinny jeans awayfromblue

These outfits are really combinations of everything above! Bright accessories, tops or colourful cardigans, in pink or purple, or sometimes both. I love pink and purple with these jeans, and with the neutral colour scheme of the grey chevron on the black jeans means you can easily wear more than one colour with them. And pink and purple go together so well!

Opshop Finds! What I Bought In November (And How I've worn It)

I did a little more shopping this month! Everything aligned for me to have some time to visit my favourite local opshop, and I couldn't resist picking up a few bargains. I went for a browse, hoping to pick up some necklaces, and found some great ones. I also got super lucky to get a dress I'd had my eye on that sold out last year!

Surprisingly, despite our annual girl's Christmas shopping trip falling on the black Friday weekend, I didn't buy anything for myself in all the sales, just finished my Christmas shopping for everyone else. The thrifted pieces are all I bought for myself in November.

What I Bought:

With the dress being just $1 and the necklaces being $2 each it was a bargain of a monthly haul, at just $7 in total!

Why I Bought It:

I got pretty lucky to pick up all these pieces at one opshop one morning! As I expanded on in the video, I'd gone looking for some necklaces and they had quite a few I liked, but I picked just the 3 as I felt they filled gaps in my wardrobe.

Had a browse of the clothes too while I was there and was so thrilled to find this fuchsia Kmart dress! Kmart also made a blazer and shorts in this material and colour last year that I still see pop up on Instagram now and then. This dress was everywhere in spring/summer last year, and has even been re-released this year in a different colour, so I'm so glad I got it for just $1! The size tag was cut out and I didn't have a chance to try it on as I had my little one with me and he was getting impatient as I browsed so it was so lucky this fit when I got home and tried it on. For $1 it was worth taking the risk on. The couple of times I've worn it has confirmed how perfect it is for hot days, really happy with this dress.

How I've Worn It:

how I've worn waht I bought november thrift haul opshop finds wardrobe remix | awayfromblue

I knew I was going to wear the dress with some of these necklaces - even the volunteer checking me out at the opshop commented how nice the colours were together! The linen blend dress is a bit of a pain to iron, as expected. It's lovely to wear though and I know I'm going to get a lot more use out of these pieces in future too.

Orange Outfits: Dresses With Statement Necklaces and Cream Chloe Mini Paddington Bag

Two orange outfits with dresses and my little Chloe mini Paddington bag I picked up back in October. One outfit dressed up for working in the office, the other for our annual Christmas family photos.

Necklace: Lovisa wooden statement bead necklace
DressAsos grey skater dress
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagChloe small Paddington in 2006 blanc

Why I wore it:

I loved this combination! It's not the first time I've tried to make this casual skater dress a little more formal by adding a blazer, but I think this is my favourite resulting outfit! The orange really pops against the neutral grey. I let the blazer be the star of the outfit by sticking with a statement but still neutral necklace, and comfortable sneakers, because the office is still pretty casual with not everyone back full time there yet. It's still optional for us to attend the office on days that make sense, and this was a much needed office day with me having picked work from home days so often lately.

I really liked the little Chloe Paddington bag with this too, I'm finding this neutral cream goes with everything so I keep reaching for it over and over! The gold hardware and padlock complimented the gold in the necklace nicely too.

Dress: Kmart short sleeve tiered jersey midi dress in amber

Bracelets: the usual plus Polka Luka resin bangles in orange, red and teal
BagChloe small Paddington in 2006 blanc

Why I wore it:

Again with the mini Chloe Paddington! To be honest I didn't really need a bag for this day - I had a big green Woolies reusable tote bag with me that had the picnic blanket and some props for our Christmas photoshoot, along with all our water bottles and some snacks. The Paddington bag ended up in there most of the morning! I'd just been running late and it was easier to grab this already packed bag I'd worn the day before than try think of what I needed to take out of it to put in the photoshoot tote.

We try get our Christmas photos early each year so I have time to pick my fave and get it printed into a Christmas card, but the weather felt Christmas-y enough. It was a very humid and summery 35 degrees (Celsius) despite being spring! I did try and curl my hair but as you can see that was a bit of a waste of time with the humidity!

I liked this orange tiered midi dress in the heat - nice and lose and flowy! Since orange isn't really a Christmas colour I went with the green necklace and the green and red bracelets. I'm pleased the combination worked, I feel I should try orange and green more often! How perfect is this orange resin bracelet too? It matches the dress so nicely. There were only a handful of photos where you could see my bracelets, but I was happy knowing they were there, ha! I did think of wearing my gold Christmas bauble earrings but thought I'd keep it simple and went with these gold heart earrings that worked better with the green necklace and complimented the gold sandals and gold hardware on the bag nicely.

Was really pleased by how our photos turned out, but of course as usual I won't share them as I don't share the kids faces online.

How You can Wear It:

Orange is a fun bold colour to wear and perfect for spring- in any shade! You can keep it simple and pair it with other neutrals like in the first outfit, or try a bold colour combination with green like I have in the second outfit!

Striped Dresses And Chloe Bags

Two striped dress outfits with Chloe bags - both older styles. I guess the 2006 Paddington is old enough to be classed as vintage now too, 15 years old!

What I wore:

Target navy and white striped shift dress with frill sleeves with long necklace chloe Paddington bag converse | awayfromblue

navy white striped dress with cream bag Chloe small Paddington in 2006 blanc | awayfromtheblue

Dress: Target navy and white striped shift dress with frill sleeves
NecklaceRoie Designs long freshwater pearl necklace with tassel
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star coast blue
BagChloe small Paddington in 2006 blanc

Why I wore it:

What a day this was! My youngest and I were making cookies after school drop off for my eldest in the morning when a friend called with some really bad news. I really wasn't feeling up to the rest of the day with sports for the little one and then sports for both boys again after school pickup, but didn't want to let the kids down. Took it as easy as I could on myself - eating lunch out instead of making it at home and sticking to nuggets for dinner so it was simple to cook. Just little things to try make the day less stressful after the tears in the morning took it out of me!

Thankfully my outfit was a good one to keep me comfortable for the day - this striped dress, although the stripes are white, goes so well with the little cream Chloe Paddington bag, and the Converse were good for the little bit of driving around I had to do to school and sports.

Last time I wore this dress I wore it with a shorter necklace, and mentioned that I thought a longer statement necklace would be better with it. Definitely think this necklace worked better than the yellow one I wore last time, the long length is much better with the dress.

Last worn: navy stripe dress, coin tassel necklace, blue Converse, Chloe small Paddington bag.

Other ways to wearnavy stripe dress and tote bag, blue Converse and shorts, Chloe small Paddington bag.

My Chloe Handbag Collection:

black and white dress with Chloe periwinkle small Paraty | awayfromblue

Necklace: thrifted blue statement beaded necklace
DressAll About Eve striped black tee dress

Why I wore it:

This was a really fun day, and a much needed family day making the most of the public holiday. It was predicted to be a really hot, humid and sunny day so we decided to head to the beach. A storm blew in the night before and it ended up cooler than expected, and very cloudy, but the kids still wanted to go to the beach. Luckily it warmed up, even though the sun mostly stayed hidden behind the clouds!

I've taken this Paraty bag to the beach before - not the most expected choice for a beach bag, but with a big green bag for snacks, water bottles and towels, and then another green bag with the beach toys and bucket and spade, I figured a crossbody bag would be a good idea to keep everything I needed close when I wasn't in the water. It survived the last trip so I felt better taking it again! And with high chances for a storm, I was glad I'd picked this bag over my neverfull when the rain started in the afternoon and chased us off the beach and back home. This Paraty bag doesn't have untreated vachetta to get water spots!

This striped dress was easy for pulling off and on over my bikini too - such a good beach coverup, and kept the sun off my shoulders. I did manage to miss sunscreen on a patch of my back though, unfortunately got a bit sunburnt there from all the time I spent in the water with the kids.

Last worn: black and white striped dress, blue lozenge bead necklace, Havaianas, Chloe small Paraty bag.

Other ways to wearblack and white striped dress and leather jacket, Chloe small Paraty bag and jeans.

How You can Wear It:

Striped dresses are great wardrobe basics! They are an easy instant outfit and work well for so many occasions: for a day of running around or as a more relaxed cover up at the beach.

Floral Kimonos, Purple Tees, Skirts, Chloe Paraty

Skirts and printed kimonos for spring, with my small Chloe Paraty bag and two very different outfit colour schemes with purple tees.

What I wore:

SkirtNobody Denim Piper vacation skirt in black distressed denim
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagChloe periwinkle small Paraty

Why I wore it:

Crazy weather on this day! There was a minor tornado at Brisbane airport. I'd been rushing around a bit that morning trying to get my son ready for school when I looked out the window and saw the previously grey sky you can see in the pic was turning a very dark scary grey. We were already running a bit late for school, but seeing that made us all move a little faster! Lucky the rain wasn't too heavy so I didn't get too wet dropping him off. I was back home just a few minutes before the storm hit and the rain really started coming down! (And it didn't turn into a tornado until after it passed us thankfully).

My youngest and I spent most of the morning at home sitting around waiting for the storm to pass enough for us to get out to the library and the grocery store. Although the rain stopped by the time we left the house, the playground was out of the question as the sky still looked pretty dark. It was a quick couple of stops then back home until school pick up in the afternoon, when I found out the storm had resulted in a tornado and I felt a little bad for driving when we could still hear the rumbles of thunder! Spring storms are normal in Brisbane, tornados not so much!

Despite the crazy weather day, I did like this outfit. With the black denim skirt the kimono was just the perfect topper and the dark floral print works so well with the lilac tee, even though the shades are different. It's not the first time I've tired this tee and kimono combination either, I really like it! The periwinkle Chloe Paraty bag complimented the different shades of purple nicely. Blue and purple are so good together.

Last worn: black floral print kimono, lilac tee, beaded necklace, distressed denim skirt, Converse, Chloe Paraty bag.

Other ways to wearblack floral print kimono and pink shorts, lilac tee and printed culottes, distressed denim skirt and grey tee, Converse and maxi skirt, Chloe Paraty bag and maxi skirt.

How To Adjust The Chloe Paraty Strap:

What I wore:

Skirt: thrifted no label rust ruffle tiered skirt
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagChloe periwinkle small Paraty

Why I wore it:

This kimono had popped up in my Instagram memories and I realised it was very overdue another wear! With the rust in the print, this cute rust ruffle skirt was an obvious pairing with it. The purple in the print gave me the idea of trying this deep wine tee with it too. I've enjoyed wearing burgundy with this rust skirt before, and although this tee is more purple-y than a true burgundy, I liked the combo. I've worn this tee with the kimono before too! I went with the periwinkle Chloe Paraty bag based on the blue in the print of the kimono as well, even though, like the purple, it's a different shade.

It was a really hot and humid day and we had a playdate at the park in the morning, so I probably didn't really need the kimono. The sleeves on the tee are long enough for shoulder coverage. I decided still to wear it that morning because I felt it pulled the outfit together well with all the different colours being in the print. While I love the colours and liked the outfit in the morning, looking at the photos after I think maybe the pieces didn't look as great together as I thought - good colour combinations to try, but not the best pieces to do it with.

After heading home for lunch and cooling off in the aircon for a bit, we headed out again to enjoy a local carnival in the afternoon, before the severe storms blew in. Again we were luckily safely home again that evening before the storm hit.

How You can Wear It:

Floral kimonos are a great addition to your wardrobe! If you're not sure what to wear with them, you can get inspiration from the colours in the print. The pieces you pick don't even have to match the colours of the print exactly, neither of these outfits are perfect matchy-matchy ones, the colours are just similar.

Weekday Wear Link Up: Navy Striped Dresses and Cream Bags

I love stripes, dresses, definitely love all shades of blue! These navy stripe dresses are certainly must-haves in my wardrobe. One old favourite dress and one new second hand buy, both great for the very varied spring weather we had last month.

What I wore:

navy stripe tee dress with magenta skull scarf and chloe small paddington bag | awayfromblue

DressAtmos&Here navy stripe tee dress
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagChloe small Paddington in 2006 blanc

Why I wore it:

This was such a busy day! As well as the school run and our usual library visit I had an appointment at an office on the north side of Brisbane that I wasn't feeling too confident about driving too. I'd been so preoccupied about the appointment that when my friend texted me in the morning reminding me about drinks that night I realised I'd gone and forgotten all about them! Luckily this outfit I was wearing worked for everything, during the day and at night for drinks. The benefit of having drinks at a friend's house means not needing to get overly dressed up.

With the wild weather and a bit of rain and wind the scarf was the perfect way to add a little extra warmth and some more colour to this navy striped tee dress. I really liked the way the black skull print on the scarf matches the black stripes in the dress as well. And this neutral small cream Chloe Paddington bag goes with everything too. The sneakers were essentials to support my knee with all the driving around.

Luckily the storms that day didn't hang around long - we did get a little wet when we arrived at the library but the sun was shining again by the time we left, and it was dry for the school pickup and drop off.

What I wore:

Target frill sleeve navy stripe shift tee dress with Adidas Superstar sneakers LV neverfull | awayfromblue

navy stripe shift dress target with Louis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull on shoulder | away from the blue

NecklaceStarfish Project Veronica short yellow multi strand necklace
Dress: Target navy and white striped shift dress with frill sleeves
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagLouis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull

Why I wore it:

This was not such a busy day, a much more relaxed day! We went out to a little local carnival. There were a lot of market stalls, some yummy fundraising food, and the highlight for the kids was of course the petting zoo.

I figured I'd wear my new navy striped dress - aren't the ruffles on the sleeves cute? I picked this up at the Glad Rags markets for just $5, a great second hand buy. Added a little extra colour to the navy with this yellow statement necklace, but I'm thinking I'll try a longer necklace next time. I did like the sneakers with this though, very comfortable as the event was a lot busier than I expected it to be and the lines (particularly for the petting zoo) were super long so there was a bit of standing around.

The Louis Vuitton Neverfull was perfect for carrying all our water bottles and of course my camera. I got some really cute photos with the kids and the animals.

How You Can Wear It

A navy striped dress is a great wardrobe basic. Try adding some extra colour to the neutral stripes with a bright accessory, like a printed scarf or statement necklace.
