30 Ways To Wear: Grey V-Neck Tee

A grey tee is such a staple piece to have in your wardrobe. When I heard about the 30 wears challenge I was sure the first thing I'd be sharing was going to be one of my many grey tees. I was surprised to find none of them were even close to 30 wears! Documenting what I wear each day by taking photos really helps me see what I actually wear all the time, instead of just what I think I wear all the time! I suppose having it be the first top in the series is very fitting - everything else has been accessories, outerwear or shorts or skirts.

This monthly post is inspired by the 30 wears challenge I first heard about in The True Cost documentary.

30 Ways To Wear: Grey V-Neck Tee

30 ways to wear a grey v neck tee affordable outfit ideas | away from blue blog

A grey tee is such a basic wardrobe staple and I am sure you have one in your wardrobe! I'm hoping that this post gives you a new outfit or colour combination to try and encourages you to rewear something you already have. I love repeating my favourite pieces, I bought them to wear them after all!

Cost Per Wear

I purchased this tee from The Iconic sale back in July 2013 and it was reduced to just $13.95 so the cost per wear is just 47 cents as I've worn it 33 times. It shows you don't have to splurge on something to have it last a long time.

I am so sad that I can't buy more of these tees - the brand isn't listed on the Iconic anymore and I haven't been able to find anything on Google. When I realised what a great piece this tee was I went back to buy more but by then there was none left in my size and it was never restocked. It's a 100% cotton, comfortable and soft tee which has held up so well over 6 years (and two pregnancies!) and I expect to have it in my wardrobe for a long time still. I've not found one that compares to it yet!

30 Ways To Wear: Video style

Grey Tee and Kimono

4 ways to wear a grey tee with a kimono away from the blue

Just as grey tees are a wardrobe staple, kimonos are another staple for me! Perfect for stay at home mum wear. With a grey tee and shorts or a grey tee and jeans, your outfit can sometimes feel a little plain, so adding a bright kimono is a great way to add more colour and interest to your outfit.

Grey Tee and Layers

5 outfit ideas ways to wear grey v-neck tee | away from the blue

Sometimes you need a little more than a kimono to keep warm - and a grey tee layers beautifully! As it's a basic, block colour neutral you can pair it with printed scarves, bright cardigans and even denim or leather jackets on colder days. I like how you don't have to worry about the tee clashing with any colours or print you might be layering with.

Grey Tee Over A Dress

3 ways to wear a grey tee knotted over a printed dress | awayfromtheblue blog

I was sure I'd have more examples of this to share as I've been loving knotting things over dresses recently! I like how a simple grey tee worn over a fun printed dress can completely change the look of it. This tee knots beautifully too - it doesn't stretch out after being knotted and it looks great with every style and colour and print of dress as it's a go-with-anything neutral.

Grey Tee In The Office

how to wear a grey tee in the office 3 outfit ideas ways to wear | awayfromblue

If you have a business casual workplace, you might be able to dress up your tee for a day at work. I have a business casual office that's so casual people wear jeans through the week. In this kind of office environment, a grey tee and a pencil skirt is an easy and comfortable outfit to wear. You can always try dressing the tee up a little more with a pair of heels, a blazer, or a big scarf to disguise the casual material.

Grey Tee And Printed Skirts

4 outfit ideas with printed skirt and grey tee | away from the blue blgo

As I've shown above, a neutral tee goes with any print. My favourite pairing is definitely stripes, but I like how easy this tee is to wear with any style of printed skirt. It's such a simple combo, grey tee and maxi skirt, but one I keep wearing over and over. Perfect for mum life.

Grey Tee With Bright or Printed Jeans

5 ways to wear a grey tee with different jeans bright and printed | awayfromblue blog

Everyone relies on a great jeans and tee outfit! It's the best basic outfit and one I frequently wear. Because this tee is a nice neutral grey, you can have a little more fun when picking jeans to wear it with, going bolder with bright jeans or printed jeans to add a little more interest to your outfit. All 5 of these outfits are the same basic tee and jeans formula, but just by changing up the jeans to different colours and prints, maybe adding an accessory like a scarf, you create a new outfit each time.

Classic Jeans and Tee Outfit

3 classic simple outfit ideas grey tee and jeans | away from the blue blog

Of course sometimes you don't want to go all out and you just want a nice, simple, classic jeans and tee outfit. With the traditional blue jeans or simple black pair, this grey tee makes a great staple outfit.

Grey Tee In Pregnancy And Postpartum

3 outfit ideas with grey non maternity tee pregnancy and postpartum | awyafromblue

I just had to finish this post with some pregnancy (and postpartum) outfits! I always enjoy looking back at them when I'm compiling these 30 ways to wear posts. After owning this tee 6 years, it's accommodated all the typical weight fluctuations over that time, and two pregnancies (as you can see by it stretched to the max over the third trimester bump there!). It's sprung back into shape every time and was so comfortable to wear over a growing baby bump or slowly shrinking postpartum bump like in the middle photo. Definitely a versatile wardrobe staple!

Weekday Wear Linkup! Floral Dresses and Mulberry Heritage Bayswater

For today's Weekday Wear Linkup I'm wearing two floral dresses to the office - a new one I only bought a few weeks ago and an old favourite that's been in my wardrobe so long I have no idea when I purchased it! I accessorised with my classic Mulberry heritage Bayswater tote and some fun scarves I tied differently each time.

What I wore:

Kmart teal floral print midi dress with scarf in hair, heels and Mulberry bayswater tote bag | awayfromblue

NecklaceHouse of Harlow Dynamic necklace in gold
Dress:  Kmart teal floral print midi dress
ShoesWittner 'Mimi' heels in mushroom
BagMulberry Bayswater in Oak NVT leather (cheaper second hand)

Why I wore it:

I feel I'm wearing this dress a lot! I picked up on clearance at Kmart for just $12 back in September and I've worn it 4 times, which is an average of once a month, but it feels like I'm heavily repeating it!

Last time I wore this dress to the office I dressed it up a little with a blazer. This time around I added a pair of heels and a cute little coach skinny scarf tied as a bow in my hair. It was for Melbourne Cup Day back in November. In Brisbane we don't have a holiday for the horse race like they do in Victoria, but we do usually have a big event and the race on the TV. I thought this floral dress was perfect and the little scarf in my hair a nice nod to cup day. Chatted to my boss's boss in the office kitchen while we were putting our breakfasts together, he said "I knew we could count on you to dress up for the cup day" and everyone in the office seemed to like my outfit! I kept proudly telling people just as I did last time that this dress was just $12 at Kmart!

Even though we ended up stuck in a big meeting and missed the cup day celebrations I did like this outfit and I'm pleased I gave the scarf a go. I wasn't too sure at first if the blue print on the scarf would be too much with the teal floral print of the dress, but I think they were far enough apart that the outfit really worked!

Last worn: teal floral midi dress, Coach skinny scarf, gold necklace, brown heels, Mulberry heritage Bayswater.

Wear and Tear: Mulberry Heritage Bayswater

ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs logo plaque flats in camel
Bracelets: the usual plus Hermes twilly Kelly en Calèche tied as bracelet
BagMulberry Bayswater in Oak NVT leather (cheaper second hand)

Why I wore it:

Another floral dress! Unlike the one in the first outfit, this is a wardrobe oldie from Jeanswest and I can't remember when I bought it exactly, or what I paid for it. I do remember wearing it to my first office job though, before I was with my current company, and I've been with my current company over 10 years. I think a wrap dress is a good one to have in your wardrobe as it accommodates weight fluctuations (and baby bumps!) nicely by wrapping a little tighter or looser. I also add a tank under for modesty now as things are a little different in the chest region after pregnancy and breastfeeding two kids!

Surprisingly, this is the first time I've worn this yellow statement necklace with the dress! It adds a nice pop of colour with the black and white print, especially with the neutral grey tank and tan accessories. I added a scarf to this outfit too, my little grey Hermes twilly. Which really deserves to get worn more! I did think about tying it on the Mulberry Bayswater bag instead, but thought it looked nice on my wrist.

Floral Dresses For The Office Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A floral dress is so prefect for spring and works well in the office too! You can formalise your outfit a little with heels and a classic tote, or stick with a staple office wear silhouette and go with a wrap dress like I have in the second outfit.

Handbag Lover Gift Guide 2019 - For Any Budget!

My fifth annual handbag lover gift guide! I love bags so really enjoy putting this post together to share some gift ideas with you. No matter your budget, you're sure to find something special for that bag loving friend or family member in your life. Or maybe a little splurge for yourself! Christmas is a time for special surprises after all 😉 With the Black Friday sales on everywhere, now is the perfect time to buy.

ultimate handbag lover gift guide purses for any budget! | away from blue

Budget Bag Related Finds Under $50

These are perfect stocking fillers or last minute gift ideas that won't break the budget! Looking out for sales or discount codes can help bring the cost down more too. I've included some Black Friday sales at the bottom of the post for you to help. While you might not be able to get a designer handbag for this price, you can get little accessories to adorn the inside or outside of bags they already own. Think pouches, card holders, clutches, travel pouches and bag charms! Or even a straw bag.

Contemporary Bags $50- $150

Extending your budget a little lets you pick up a cute bag from a mid-range designer, or a small leather good from a higher end brand. Rebecca Minkoff is my current favourite contemporary brand and you'll find a lot of bags in this price range there! Think also Kate Spade, Coach, Ted Baker, etc.

Splurge Worthy Bags $200+

This category is idea for someone special in your life, where you have a bigger budget. You could even get a wallet from a high end designer for under $400. It's good to look for hints for the brand, style or colour someone would be interested in before splurging in this category. If you're not sure, a neutral coloured classically shaped handbag would be a safe bet, or you could always just get them a giftcard for their fave store instead to let them pick out the bag of their dreams!

Second Hand Shopping

You can find some real bargains second hand. If you're shopping for yourself this is a good way to go, or buy early from a store with a good return policy so you have time to return in case you've bought the bag as a gift and it's a little more pre-loved than you expected!

Buying from sites like Vestaire Collective (who are having a 30% off sale for Black Friday) and Fashionphile that guarantee authenticity takes a lot of the stress out of purchasing a designer bag second hand. Bag Mad Boutique is UK based but ships worldwide and there is a 10% off black Friday sale on at the moment (and full disclosure, the owner is a wonderful friend of mine!).

Some Handbag Related Sales to Check Out:

The sales can mean something that was out of our budget before becomes a little more attainable, and a handbag will have a lot of staying power in your wardrobe!

Shopbop - use code "MORE19" to get 15% off orders over $200 to up to $25% off orders over $800 - and you can use it on sale items too for an even bigger discount!

Rebecca Minkoff - use code "THANKS25" to get 25% of orders over $100, and "THANKS30" to get 30% off orders over $250.

David Jones - up to 60% off in the Black Friday sale.

The Outnet - get up to 85% off in the clearance sale!

Net A Porter - get an extra 15% off selected sale items!

I hope you enjoyed browsing some of my top handbag related gift ideas this year! Are you wishing for a bag shaped present under the tree this Christmas? I may have already given hubby a direct link to the bag I want...leaving nothing up to chance! 😂

V-Neck Tees Knotted Over Tiered Sundresses With Rebecca Minkoff Love Bag

I'm a little sad that Kmart hasn't brought these strappy tiered sundresses back again this year, I was so hoping they would! They are such a staple in my wardrobe and they aren't just worn in the summer months. Today I'm sharing two spring outfits I made with them by knotting some tees over the top. I did this in winter too with knits.

What I wore:

Dress: Kmart Aztec print tiered little black dress
ShoesRebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush
Bracelets: the usual plus mixed metal bracelet stack

Why I wore it:

I wore this a little bit too late for Halloween! But I did like the black and orange combo. This v-neck tee is a recent purchase from the Jeanswest sale. I picked it up as I loved the orange, and went to try it on. Then it looked so mustard in the change room. I asked the SA as I was buying it, it's definitely not mustard right?! ha! I do love mustard but I already have a mustard tee.

Like you do with a new purchase, I wanted to wear this shortly after I bought it and realised it would be a great pop of colour with this little black tiered sundress. With the nude studded gladiator sandals and the grey Rebecca Minkoff love bag, I wanted to add a little more colour to the outfit and this Ruby Olive necklace was perfect! It was a Christmas gift from my bestie last year.

I liked the slight extra warmth this tee gave layered over the sundress for church too - always so cold in church with the aircon!

Last worn: black Aztec print dress, statement necklace, studded gladiator sandals, Rebecca Minkoff Love bag. First time I've worn the tee as it was a recent purchase.

Tee: Spectrum basic v-neck tee in grey marl
Dress: Kmart strappy tiered sundress in watercolour blue and blush print
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey

Why I wore it:

Another outfit I wore to church, another tee knotted over a sundress! Unlike the first outfit, I let the dress be the colour with the blue and pink print and went with a neutral grey tee to match the Rebecca Minkoff Love bag. Picked the black ankle boots as I wore this a few weeks before the first outfit, where I wanted a little extra warmth for the cooler spring morning. It turned into a beautifully warm day by the afternoon though.

This grey tee is such a wardrobe staple - I have a 30 ways to wear post coming up with it soon because I've finally achieved over 30 wears with it. It was one of the pieces I searched through my blog archives for first when I heard about the 30 wears challenge, so sure that I'd have already hit 30 wears with it! I have finally got over 30 wears with it now, and I've been putting a 30 wears post together every month for almost 2 years, haha!

I knotted this tee to the side but I preferred the way I knotted the tee in the first outfit, making the knot more of a statement.

V-Neck Tees Under $50:

How You Can Wear It

A v-neck tee is a wardrobe staple and pairs so nicely with denim - jeans or shorts! For something a little different and for a cooler spring or autumn day, try layering a tee over one of your fave summer dresses to create a whole new look!

What I Bought In November:

I'd usually do an extra post for this with a video but I've been a bit unwell this month and lost my voice for over a week so I'm just adding a little note onto this post. I also only bought three things:

I used up the last of my Christmas gift cards in the Jeanswest 40% off sale to pickup some colourful pieces for summer, and as I was hunting the opshops for books for our Christmas book advent calendar I couldn't resist this cute necklace for just $3!

Here's how I've worn it all:

Weekday Wear Linkup! Belted Fit and Flare Dresses With Tees Underneath and Balenciaga Day Bags

For today's Weekday Wear Linkup I'm layering some 3/4 sleeve tees under classic fit and flare dresses. And adding all the accessories! The last of our stuff is out of storage and my uncle helped me finish the rest of my wardrobe room so I finally have all of my clothes and accessories in one wardrobe room in our new house, making me very happy indeed!

What I wore:

BeltAsos Metal Keeper super skinny belt in pink
ShoesWalnut Melbourne Ava white leopard ballet flats
Bracelets: the usual plus pearl and rose gold bracelet stack
BagBalenciaga Day bag in 2005 magenta

Why I wore it:

It's not the first time I've layered a neutral tee under this black fit and flare dress. It makes it the perfect base for some bright accessories, and this magenta Balenciaga day bag matches so nicely with this magenta skinny belt. Which I haven't worn for a few years as it's just recently been uncovered from storage after our move (I went into a little bit more detail about the return of the belts here). So happy to see it again, it's a great colour match to this Balenciaga day bag.

The pink crystals in the necklace don't match the magenta pink exactly, but I still liked the extra touch of colour it added to the outfit. Went a little further and added the printed shoes too, these leopard print ballet flats are so fun to wear with a monochromatic outfit.

They grey tee wasn't really needed underneath in the heat of the day but it was appreciated in the cold aircon at work, even if I did overheat a little when my friend and I went out for a walk at lunch time, where I posed in front of yet another jacaranda tree!

Bracelets: the usual plus Hermes Kelly double tour bracelet in rubis
BagBalenciaga giant hardware Day bag in 2009 tempete

Why I wore it:

Even more colourful this time, on my next day in the office I wore another fit and flare dress, this one in a classic black and white stripe. I added a teal tee underneath and then some red accessories - mostly because I felt these red suede ballet flats were overdue a wear and you know I can't resist a little matchy-matchy!

With the red belt, shoes and Hermes Kelly bracelet I felt a red necklace might have been a little too much so I picked this anchormen crystal statement necklace instead. The blue Balenciaga day bag isn't a great match to the teal tee, but I thought it complimented it nicely and this bag looks great with red!

Fit And Flare Dresses Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A fit and flare dress is such a staple, and with a sleeveless one like these two you can easily layer a tee underneath if the office aircon is a little chilly, bypassing the need for a blazer or cardigan on top. You can add some colour with bright accessories like statement necklaces or belts. A fit and flare dress looks great belted!

Maxi Skirts and Tees With Scarves and Mustard Rebecca Minkoff Micro Regan Bag

Easy mum style for breezy spring days with v-neck tees and printed maxi skirts. Accessorised with some colourful scarves and my adorable mustard yellow Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag.

Tee: Big W mustard v-neck tee
Skirt: Target navy side split maxi skirt

BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold

Why I wore it:

I really like blue and yellow together so I knew I should wear this navy striped maxi skirt with the mustard tee. I couldn't resist going a little matchy-matchy with the accessories too, with my mustard Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag matching the tee and navy scarf matching the skirt. Even if the mustard bag isn't quite the same colour as the tee, it is such a fun combo and one I've worn before.

It was a warmer spring day but a bit breezy, especially right on the bay where we spent the morning at the playground, after quickly stopping off at opshop to drop off some stuff. Of course I ended up browsing after donating and picked up a few things for the boys too! I thought the mixed geometric print of the scarf was a fun print mix with the striped skirt, and loved the combination.

Of course the location is the best part though! I couldn't believe my luck stumbling across this beautiful jacaranda tree. Even if the wind made it tricky to get a good pic, and baby boy had a bit of fun running around in the background 😂 The jacaranda trees are so beautiful and worth documenting though - they blossom every spring in Brisbane and are so colourful!

Why I wore it:

Again with the mustard! It is my favourite shade of yellow. The lovely boho print on this red maxi skirt has a little touch of yellow in it so the mustard bag was an obvious choice, and with the bold red and yellow together I thought a plain white tee was the best. It made it through a trip to the park with the kids and dogs, a haircut, and going out for lunch with my sister without getting a stain so I was pretty happy! I wasn't as lucky last time I wore it...

Again it was a windy start to the morning so I added a scarf, and thought this mustard one was such a bright pop with the red skirt. Just like the tee in the outfit above, it's a different shade from the bag but I thought it complimented it nicely.

How You Can Wear It:

A printed maxi skirt is a fun piece to wear in warmer weather - and paired with a plain tee it makes for an easy outfit. You can add further colour and print to your outfit with accessories too, like I have with the scarves and the little mustard bag.
