Grey Tees, Denim Shorts and Kimonos: Easy Mum Style

Sometimes the simplest outfits are the best! I love a good grey tee, and they are so nice with denim shorts. Throw on a printed kimono to feel a little more pulled together, and accessorise with a bright neon bag. Easy and perfect for a day with the kids!

Why I wore it:

I needed a simple outfit for a stressful Monday so I fell back on my much loved outfit formula. To accessorise I just decided to pick everything pink as there is some pink in the floral print of the kimono. even though everything was a different shade of pink, I think it all worked well together. I love the way this neon pink mini MAC bag pops with the grey tee and the navy kimono, it really shines against neutrals. It's such a frequent accessory choice when I wear this kimono!

It was a stressful start to the morning as we had an appointment to keep but my phone had died the day before so I was desperately hunting for a replacement phone around the appointment time. The kids behaved so well as I dragged them round store after store. I'd picked out a possible new phone for Christmas but decided against it, so I knew the model I wanted, but it wasn't as widely available as it was in December! Thankfully I tracked it down, at the sixth store we went to. Yes, 6. My boys were so patient, but it was a stressful morning for us all!

Why I wore it:

Looking a little flat here - I was starting to feel unwell and lose my voice, but I'd pre-booked a fun morning and I had to pick up a few last minute birthday party things for baby boy's birthday party the next day, so I pushed through.

Our morning started with messy play - I'd picked all these things to wear as they could be easily washed (as advised when I booked the tickets). I did not expect to have to wash the grey tee quite so quickly though, after I took pics there was an incident with a breakfast bowl and I had to quickly take this off, stuff it in the washing machine and find another grey tee to replace it. Luckily I have a few! 😂

Thankfully at the actual messy play I managed to keep my clothes clean - although the boys loved getting dirty and my legs were covered in green 'slime' at the end of it. Lots of fun! Complete change of clothes for them and a bit of a clean with baby wipes and we were ready to run around the shops and pick up all the last minute party things.

Kimonos aren't just summer pieces for me. I like to wear them in spring and autumn too! They just add an extra level of interest to an otherwise plain shorts and tee outfit. With the outfits below, I picked a kimono where the print matched the colour of the tee I was wearing. You know I like a little matchy-matchy!

It's not the first time I've worn this aquamarine bag with purple, I really like the combination. It was the perfect accessory to pair with the purple v-neck tee and the purple floral kimono.

Busy morning with a few errands to run and a quick dentist appointment for toddler T before his swimming lessons. He did really well, helped I'm sure by the fact that they were playing Paw Patrol on the TV in the ceiling, he just laid back and watched the show the whole time, haha!

Why I wore it:

Another day with the kids trying to run errands meant another simple outfit was needed. When I got this coral tee home after picking it up in the sales, I knew I had to try this outfit combination with it, and wore it just a couple days after buying the tee. The bright coral colour was such a good match for the orangey reds in the print of this Kindness collective kimono! Such a winning combination paired together.

While it wasn't a very exciting day, I did love wearing this outfit and I am sure to try pairing this coral tee and the printed kimono together again soon! Such a fun bit of matchy-matchy-ness!

Stuck with silver for the accessories, with the silver pendant necklace and Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag to be a balancing neutral for all the colour and print.

You can't beat denim and a kimono for an easy mum outfit. It's autumn and I'm still posting denim shorts outfits! Partly because I have a backlog of outfit pics (I post 6 outfits a week so I can have a day 'off' but sometimes I take a pic every day), partly because autumn officially starts on the first of March but it often takes Brisbane weather a little while to catch up! One of the benefits of living in a tropical climate. 🌞

Why I wore it:

Unlike the last time I wore this kimono, I didn't need it for sun protection! I was studying for my big exam and feeling the pressure with a few days to go. With the humidity and threat of further rain, I decided to take them indoors and we headed to the local McDonald's playground! I was suitably sugared up for studying with a massive hot chocolate as the boys played in the playground. We ended up having lunch there too before heading home.

The longer sleeves on this kimono worked perfectly for spending a couple of hours in the aircon studying. It adds a fun touch of colour with the black tee too, and I think the magenta worked so nicely with the turquoise bag and necklace. I just had to match the necklace and bag together, you know I love a bit of machy-matchy.

Just like the last time I wore this olive tee and these black denim shorts together, I felt I needed to add a little something. Last time I added a light scarf for an extra colour and print, this time around I stuck with the navy colour but picked this pretty floral kimono instead. It's such a fun one to wear, the cocoon style is like being wrapped up in a big hug!

With the pink in the floral print, this neon pink mini MAC bag seemed like a good choice, and it really pops with the navy, olive and black neutrals.

Just a normal quiet weekend, grocery shopping and swimming lessons, before trying to get more study in in the afternoon when the boys were at the park with their dad.

Although it's autumn in Brisbane, summer outfits can continue for a while before the really cold weather arrives! Simple tanks, printed kimonos and shorts with a cute colourful Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag are such easy stay at home mum outfits.

Why I wore it:

I really liked this outfit, I thought all of the colours worked so well together. While the dominant colour in this printed kimono is purple, it has a bunch of other colours in it. I couldn't resist adding more colour with this magenta Rebecca Minkoff Edie cross body bag. A neutral navy tank and blue denim shorts were an easy pairing with the rest of the colour. And then a blush necklace, for another little extra touch of colour.

Just a quiet day, doing the daycare drop off and pickup and working from home, before taking my son to an appointment in the afternoon. Such a comfortable outfit for that. I did wish I had picked a different tank in the afternoon heat though - this one is an old breastfeeding one, it's layered with hidden access for breastfeeding and on a hot day layered tops are not the best! Such a cute basic tank though, I'm still keeping it around long after finishing breastfeeding as you wouldn't know just by looking at it that it's a special piece.

Didn't like this outfit as much as the one above though - even with swapping the Havaianas for studded sandals, this outfit just felt a bit plain. Was nice and simple for a day with the kids though, doing our usual playground and library routine with a couple of errands to run too.

Peplum Tanks, Kimonos and Denim Shorts: Summer Mum Style

I've been wearing peplum tanks with pencil skirts frequently recently, so I thought it was time to try something different and pair them with some denim shorts. Like scarves in winter, kimonos are a fun topper to an outfit to add a little extra colour and interest.

Why I wore it:

After getting badly sunburned a couple days before, I needed a light outfit that provided sun protection for a quick trip out with the boys to run essential errands and pickup some groceries. This black peplum tank is so soft and just what my sore shoulders needed. It's a shame that the peplum hem of this tank doesn't show up well in the photos as I thought it looked really cute! I was grateful for the kimono adding a little extra colour and print to the outfit as it also offered some good sun protection for my tender shoulders.

I've recently worn this purple Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote bag with the blue printed kimono before - since I liked the combination I thought I'd wear it again, just swapping the white tee for this black tank and a different necklace. I also appreciated the thin cross body strap on the bag being easy to wear without aggravating my sunburned neck and shoulders!

Simple, fuss-free outfit for a hot day.

Despite not having sunburn to contend with when I wore this, it's a very similar outfit to the one above. Longer shorts and longer tank, but still just denim shorts, peplum tank and a fun blue printed kimono with a colourful pink Rebecca Minkoff bag this time.

I picked up this peplum tank in the Kmart clearance sale and wanted to wear it another way to meet my 'wear twice in the month I buy it' goal for all my new purchases. Since I wore it with a pencil skirt last time, I wore it more casually this time with the bermuda denim shorts. The pink beaded necklace and mini MAC bag were fun accessories to pop against the blue printed kimono too.

Had quite a busy day. A relaxed morning browsing the opshop after dropping off another couple of bags of donations, and of course picking up a couple of things for myself too! Then had an appointment for the boys in the afternoon. With the heat and humidity, I liked this light kimono addition to my outfit as it kept me sun-safe and didn't add to the heat.

A peplum tank is a nice twist on a basic tank - just as easy to wear, but with a little ruffled hem to add a point of difference to your outfit. Printed Tees and Denim Shorts With Rebecca Minkoff MAB Camera Bag

With the summer heatwave back in January, shorts and a tee were all I could face wearing! Of course I tried to make the outfits a little different by wearing printed tees and adding some accessories: long tassel necklaces and a neutral Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag.

Why I wore it:

I was excited to get in my first wear of this new tee that I thrifted recently for just $1! I've been hunting for a good opshop after my local go-to closed down, and while this one is further away, $1 per item of clothing is my kind of opshop. This was a Kmart tee, fairly recent I think, maybe last spring, so it wouldn't have cost much more new.

Ordinarily I'd worry that shorts and a tee were too casual for a specialist appointment (especially with this doctor, she is impeccably stylish!) but it was too hot to contemplate anything other than shorts and a tee. With the black blobs in the print I thought the black denim shorts were the obvious choice, with the tan Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag and gold sandals to accessorise with. As I had the gold hardware on the bag and gold shoes and the pink on the tee, this pink tassel necklace that has a few gold beads spaced through the chain was the ideal finishing touch.

Was comfortable and cool in this all day - from the playground with the boys in the morning, the appointment, and then lunch and working with my mum on something in the afternoon.

Why I wore it:

This day was a quieter day but again I stuck to the same outfit formula. They are the best. When you're not sure what to wear, think back to something you liked to wear and repeat it, changing a couple of things if you want the outfit to feel 'new'. I wanted something easy because as you can tell from my hair the heat and humidity was bad on this day!

I picked a striped tee to wear this time, and as it had navy stripes decided on the blue denim distressed shorts to wear. I really liked the MAB camera bag and rose gold sandals together in the first outfit, so I repeated that outfit combo again, but I picked a turquoise tassel necklace to accessorise with this time instead of the pink one.

For another point of difference, I added the Fashion Scarf Girl hair scarf on my wrist. I thought with the stripes on the top it might have been a little too much to wear in my hair, but it worked perfectly on my wrist. I've worn it on my wrist before.

Simple shorts and striped tee summer outfit, for a morning out with the boys. A couple of errands, a trip to the library and playground and grabbing some groceries on the way home.

Two outfits following the same outfit formula but with different colour schemes! The first outfit is pink and purple and the second is purple again, but with blue instead. These simple shorts, tee and kimono outfits are a summer staple for me and perfect for mum life.

Why I wore it:

I really liked this outfit. I like grey and pink together but this outfit felt it was lacking something until I added the kimono - the perfect touch! With the purple floral kimono, a purple mini MAB tote bag was the obvious choice to accessorise with.

It was a busy day! We went to a local opshop I'd heard good things about but never visited. It's a little out of the way, but with clothes just $1 each was definitely worth checking out! As usual, I left with more things for the boys than me, but it was still a good trip and we will have to try go more regularly. I still haven't found the perfect alternative to my favourite opshop after it closed.

Of course after spending time doing something for me in the morning, we had to go do something for the boys later. We visited a travelling petting zoo at a shopping centre, and it was so much fun. We all had a great time. I did regret my shoe choice as these studded Balenciaga sandals are maybe a little too delicate for straw and animals everywhere, and when I got a cup of animal feed spilled over me and into the cuffs of my shorts I regretted them a little too! But it was so much fun overall I didn't dwell on it for long!

Why I wore it:

This day was not as exciting as the one above! Took the boys out to the library, the playground and then picked up some groceries on the way home. I really liked the outfit formula above though, so much that I repeated it again here, just changing the colour scheme a little. Blue and purple is another of those combinations that I love, so I kept the purple Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote bag and switched the purple kimono out for this pretty blue one and the grey tee for a white one. Blue denim shorts and just simple Havaianas made this a great outfit that follows the outfit formula above but created its own unique outfit I loved just as much.

It's taken me a few years to face my fears and buy a white tee, but I'm glad I did, I really like this one from Atmos&Here and it works so nicely with blue!
