New Weekday Wear Linkup! Blue Dresses and Pink Balenciaga City Bag: Summer Office Outfits

Two simple summer office outfits, with two pretty printed dresses and a pink Balenciaga city bag. All pieces I love and have worn before, but I do have something new to share with you - a new outfit linkup!

What I wore:

NecklaceJeanswest Taryn turquoise tassel bead necklace
DressFrench Connection blue Paisley print dress
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

Sometimes I find the square neckline of this sheath dress a little tricky to accessorise, I often debate for a while each morning about what necklace to wear. This long pendant necklace has been a frequently worn one lately though, so I decided to give it a go and I really liked the combination!

The paisley print dress and pink Balenciaga city bag are frequently worn together, I really like pink and blue! And as I had a gold necklace, these gold mouse flats were an obvious shoe choice. Really easy summer office style. I did have a blazer too for the cold aircon in the office, but it was much too hot to wear it for photos in the morning.

Last worn: long tassel necklace, paisley print sheath dress, gold mouse flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag.

Other ways to wearpaisley print sheath dress and blazer, gold mouse flats and pencil skirt, Balenciaga sorbet city bag in winter.

Perfect for pregnancypaisley print sheath dress in second trimester, gold mouse flats in second trimester, Balenciaga sorbet city bag in second trimester.

BeltRebecca Minkoff Liv double wrap velvet belt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

It was a little cooler this morning (although not by much) so I wore my blazer for the pics. Again I picked a gold necklace to wear with the blue printed dress, this Kmart one is another frequently worn one, and so cheap too! For the blazer, shoes and belt I went with black, due to the darker colours in the Ikat print of the dress.

While the blue print in this dress is darker than the one above, I still think the pink Balenciaga city bag is a fun accessory with it - it really pops with the darker background.

A little bit of a quieter day at work meant the opportunity to get some training in too which was wonderful - we have an online training site but I so rarely get the opportunity to use it and there were some courses I've been wanting to do for a while!

Last worn: black jersey blazer, blue and gold necklace, Ikat print dress, velvet belt, black ballet flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag (above).

Other ways to wearjersey blazer and jeans, Ikat print dress with green, velvet belt over a blazer, black ballet flats and skinny jeans, Balenciaga sorbet city bag and shorts.

Blue Printed Dresses Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A printed dress is such an easy office option as you can just pull-on and go. You can always accessorise with a nice neutral like all the black pieces I wore in the second outfit, or make a brightly coloured dress even brighter with a bold bag like the pink Balenciaga city.

Black Dresses For The Office With Pink Scarves and Rebecca Minkoff Darren Messenger Bag

You can add scarves to warm weather outfits by thinking a little differently about how you wear them. While these two scarves are very different, they are both pretty shades of pink and work so nicely with these little black dresses for the office. I continued the pink theme with my peony Rebecca Minkoff Darren messenger bag.

What I wore:

Hermes twilly scarf worn in hair as headband hairbow with black lace dress and pastel pink bag | awayfromblue

black lace dress, silver bracelet stack and Rebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony | awayfromtheblue

NecklaceHouse of Harlow 5 station necklace in black and silver
DressJeanswest 'Gisele' contrast lace dress
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony

Why I wore it:

It was Melbourne Cup day so once again I broke out my Hermes twilly to tie around my hair like a headband. I did the same thing last year! This year we weren't having a big lunch like we usually do, just a few snacks to watch the race. I was stuck working on an urgent issue and missed the race and the snacks.

I wanted to feel a little more dressed up than usual for the occasion - you see so many people wearing the prettiest dresses around the office and in Brisbane on race day. This little black lace dress which sometimes seems too dressy for work was the perfect piece to wear. I really liked the way the peony pink Darren bag worked with the lace on the dress too. Was good to give this dress another wear, it's one of the little worn pieces in my wardrobe, last worn a year ago!

Last worn: black lace dress, Hermes twilly, House of Harlow necklace, Walnut Melbourne flats, Rebecca Minkoff Darren bag.

Other ways to wearblack lace dress for a night out, Hermes twilly worn two ways, Walnut Melbourne flats and pencil skirt, Rebecca Minkoff Darren bag with stripes.

NecklaceEye Candy LA 'Sasha' statement necklace
DressJeanswest tucked ponte black dress
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony

Why I wore it:

Unlike the lace dress above, this classic fit and flare dress is frequently worn to the office. It's the perfect style and length and always looks good! Sometimes I like to wear a belt with it. I decided to try something a little different with my leaf print scarf and tied it as a belt around my waist. I folded the scarf over a few times, wrapped it around, and then tucked the ends back into the scarf at the back. As the dress is a thick ribbed ponte fabric, it held in place perfectly through the day.

While I think the scarf and the small Darren bag added a great touch of colour with the dress, I couldn't resist adding just a little more with this statement necklace. The colours really popped against the black, and I was feeling very confident and happy with my outfit when I stepped out of the house. Only to quickly realise on my way to work that a braided hairstyle and this crystal necklace don't work so well together. The necklace kept getting caught rather painfully in my braid through the day! Will definitely be wearing this necklace and dress together again in future, but maybe not with my hair tied so close to it 😂

Last worn: black fit and flare dress, leaf print scarf, statement crystal necklace, silver ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff Darren bag (above).

Other ways to wearblack fit and flare dress in winter, leaf print scarf and skinny jeans, silver ballet flats and purple jeans, Rebecca Minkoff Darren bag with peplum tank.

Black Dresses Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A little black dress is a frequently recommended style staple. It is a classic piece to have for work. It's easy to change it up a little each time you wear it with different accessories, and to add a touch of colour. You can stick with a colourful bag like I have here, or try something a little different and add a scarf as well. You can drape a scarf over your neck or try an alternative way to wear it, like as a headband or wrapped around your waist like a belt.

Printed Sheath Dresses With Mulberry Bayswater Bag and Winter Layers

Layering up some some dresses for winter office wear. Something I do frequently (I love extending the opportunities in the year I can wear pies in my wardrobe), but something that perhaps was a little poorly thought through this time, considering it was the coldest winter week we'd had for a while. The weekend before it had been the coldest day in 4 years, so very chilly temperatures. Being stubborn and having nothing else planned to wear though, I persisted with wearing my dresses!

What I wore:

JacketJeanswest Monica Mac coat in Indigo
ScarfLouis Vuitton monogram shawl in bleu
Cardigan: Paper Scissors grey wrap cardigan
DressFrench Connection blue Paisley print dress
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
BagMulberry Bayswater in Oak NVT leather

Why I wore it:

Could not resist going a bit monochrome here with the blue macintosh, blue sheath dress and blue Louis Vuitton shawl. Do I look cold though? I was freezing! I thought the scarf, ankle boots, and cardigan I wore under my coat would keep me warm, but I was shivering on the way to work. Such a chilly day. I ended up needing my coat when we went out for lunch too. I did regret not picking something warmer to wear.

Cold weather aside, I did like this outfit. I loved all the blue together, and this Mulberry Bayswater bag holds everything I need for the office. While this sheath dress is definitely worn the most in the warmer weather, it's nice to do something different and layer it up a little for winter. Just maybe will pick a less chilly day next time I try!

DressFrench Connection 'Woodblock wonder' panache dress in white/geranium rose
BeltRebecca Minkoff Liv double wrap velvet belt
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
BagMulberry Bayswater in Oak NVT leather

Why I wore it:

Following exactly the same outfit formula as the one above, with a pretty printed sheath dress, the same ankle boots, cardigan, and Mulberry Bayswater bag. I did make a change and instead of wearing the blue macintosh I wore this cosy trench coat - it's warm and lined and I didn't feel the cold as much in this outfit. I was also able to leave my coat behind when I went out for lunch, it was a warmer day overall.

I've always found this sheath dress tricky to wear outside of summer. Fleecy tights is my default winter wear with dresses and skirts, but black and orange? Makes me think of Halloween. I added the black belt to try tie in the black tights with the dress, and I did consider swapping out the grey cardigan for a black one. But my black cardigan is a lot thicker than this and I wasn't sure it would fit under the coat! I still quite liked this outfit, even with the grey cardigan.

While the bold orange dress is enough of a statement on its own, I felt like adding more colour and wearing this yellow scarf. It's such a big scarf, perfect for wrapping around a few times and keeping me cosy. Thought it would be a good colour to wear with this dress after I loved my yellow statement necklace with the orange print when I wore it previously. I really liked this outfit!

Last worn: camel trench, grey cardigan (above), yellow Love Quotes scarf, orange sheath dress, velvet belt, RMK ankle boots (above), Mulberry Bayswater (above).

Sheath Dresses Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

Printed sheath dresses, or any summer workwear staple, can easily be layered up for cooler weather. A business casual office environment like mine makes ankle boots a practical and suitable choice. You can also add extra layers for your commute like a cardigan under a thicker coat, and a warm and cosy scarf. The cardigan comes in helpful when you reach your desk if your office aircon is too cold as well!

Dresses and Leather Jackets With Scarves and Balenciaga Day Bags

I'm always excited to get my leather jackets out. They are the perfect pieces to keep me warm in our Brisbane winters, and they look great with everything. I wore them recently with dresses to the office. I get to work early so the extra warmth from a leather jacket is appreciated in the cold winter commute. I did swap the jackets for a cosy cardigan when I got to my desk though.

What I wore:

cobalt leather jacket, embroidered feather scarf, ikat print belted dress, winter office outfit | awayfromblue

Balenciaga truffle brown RH classic day bag | awayfromtheblue

DressJeanswest Aztec print dress
BeltRebecca Minkoff Liv double wrap velvet belt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagBalenciaga truffle brown RH classic day bag

Why I wore it:

While this dress only gets worn to the office, it is one of my favourite dresses. I love the colour and print, and it was definitely overdue a wear. I knew the cobalt of the leather jacket would go so nicely with the navy on the dress, but I was undecided about the scarf. I set aside a few to try in the morning and see which looked best, but as soon as I put this one on I knew I wasn't going to have to try any others - the grey scarf with gold embroidered feathers works so well with this printed dress!

There was nothing I'd change about this outfit - I did think of ankle boots in the morning but the ballet flats were fine. My legs were kept warm with my fleece lined tights, another winter must-have for me!

Why I wore it:

While I liked this outfit, I didn't like it as much as the one above. I thought that the blue bag and scarf would look nice with this faux wrap dress. The dress is such a fun mix of colours, but I do wear blue with it frequently. Even this black moto jacket has a little bit of blue print on the sleeves, as you can see in the close up shot of the bag.

With the dress being such a bold and colourful print, again I was unsure what scarf to go with it. I decided on this blue monogram shawl. While it does have a monogram print on it, like the leather jacket it's so subtle I think it worked really nicely with this dress.

Might not have been my favourite outfit, but it was still nice for a busy meeting filled day at the office. I just loved the first outfit more!

Faux Leather Jackets Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

Just because you're heading into the office, it doesn't mean you have to leave your leather jacket behind. A tougher moto jacket works well with a feminine dress and keeps you cosy for the commute. It's so easy to throw your jacket over your chair when you get to your desk, and swap it for a cosy cardigan if the office aircon is a little chilly, or a blazer if you want to look more formal.

Black and White Dresses For The Office With Navy Rebecca Minkoff Regan Bag

The beauty of a black and white dress is that you can really accessorise with anything! I even got to get out one of my scarves I've been waiting to wear.

As you can see from the outfits below, although these were worn just a day apart there was a big change in the temperatures! A couple of weeks ago it eventually started cooling down in Brisbane. This Friday is the first day of winter, so it's about time we had some cooler weather!

What I wore:

blush pink blazer and Rebecca Minkoff velvet double wrap belt, Regan bag, autumn office style | awayfromblue

DressJeanswest 'Rita' stripe jersey dress
BeltRebecca Minkoff Liv double wrap velvet belt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
BagRebecca Minkoff Regan Satchel Tote in moon

Why I wore it:

It's not the first time I've belted this blazer, but I think this is my favourite outfit I've created with it. I have worn this belted over a black fit and flare dress before, this time around I really liked the double wrap velvet belt and the pink with the black and white.

The only thing I didn't like with this outfit was that it was a little chilly in the morning - after taking photos, I ran inside to grab a scarf as I packed the tripod away before I left for work. Didn't have time to get photos with the scarf, but it stayed off for the rest of the day as the weather heated up. Headed out to the Brisbane Botanical Gardens again with my friend to take some photos. While she doesn't have an active blog, she is modelling some pieces she's been sent so I was happy to enjoy the autumn sunshine and take some pics for her. Managed to get a pic of my outfit too! We had time for a quick lunch after before we headed back to the office, with an afternoon full of meetings for me.

Why I wore it:

A much cooler morning had me pulling out my Grandma's knitted dress. It was one of the pieces I'd packed away for winter. I'd recently unboxed all my winter things, perfect timing for the weather change. While this dress has been worn a few times, it's the first time I had the opportunity to wear this beautiful personalised scarf my friend sent me. The gold embroidered feathers are complimented with my name in gold foil, it's such a sweet gift.

This was just the right amount of layers for a wet and cold autumn day, although I am wondering if I'll have to get my tights out soon! Again, just like the outfit above, I stuck with my Rebecca Minkoff Regan bag, the neutral navy goes with so much.

Black and White Dresses For The Office Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A classic black and white dress is an office essential. It's an instant throw on and go outfit. You can add a blazer if it's cooler or you want your outfit to seem a little more professional. The black and white is also a great backdrop to add some colour to, like the blush blazer in the first outfit, or to try print mixing with the feather print scarf in the second outfit.

Blue Dresses and Black Accessories: Mimco Button Bag and Rebecca Minkoff Velvet Double Wrap Belt

Last month I picked up the cute Rebecca Minkoff Liv double wrap belt in the Shopbop sale. A complete impulse buy, I was just looking for something a little different to update my wardrobe as I am feeling pretty content with all the clothes I have. And I looked at accessories as the weather wasn't cooperating with all the dreams I had for buying cosy knits, it was a very warm start to autumn!

I wore the belt to the office two slightly different ways, with the same bag each time. My Mimco black button bag is a classic most Australians would recognise, and my very first 'expensive' (triple digit) handbag purchase.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

With the cooler mornings and evenings, and a bit of rain, I was excited autumn may finally be arriving in Brisbane. I did want to get more wear from this vest before it got too cold though. I find vests better suited for warmer weather. When it's cold, I want my arms covered. If was the perfect day to wear this vest though. Cool, but not too cold. When I first bought this vest, I thought of belting it. I see bloggers belting vests all the time, so that's probably what gave me the idea. This is it's tenth wear though, and the first time I've belted it!

I really liked this outfit! The dusty pink of the vest worked perfectly with the blue Aztec print in the dress, with the black belt matching the black in the dress print as well as the Mimco button bag and black ballet flats. I'm surprised it took me so long to belt this vest as I love the look. I'm glad I eventually gave it a go! The outfit was practical too - had the flu shot at work in preparation for the upcoming winter and needed my arms uncovered.

Last worn: pink vest, Aztec print dress, black ballet flats, Mimco black button bag. First time I've worn the velvet double wrap belt as it's a new purchase.

Other ways to wearpink vest and graphic tee, Aztec print dress and purple bag, black ballet flats and wrap dress, Mimco black button bag and pencil skirt.

Why I wore it:

I didn't like this outfit as much as the one above. The blue Paisley print of this dress is beautiful, but I felt the black accessories didn't look as good as they could have with it. I was really liking the outfit until I went to pick a black necklace. I don't have many, and this was the best one I could find. The velvet belt has gold hardware and this necklace has really prominent silver. I felt a little mismatched all day. I don't mind mixing gold and silver in bracelet stacks or when layering necklaces together, it just felt a little 'off' having the different metals on different accessories.

Just a minor thing, but next time I'd spend the time to hunt out a gold necklace and I'm sure I'd like the outfit better!

More Velvet Belts Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A really easy way to change up the look of your favourite dress is to add a belt. It doesn't require buying anything new, as you probably already have a couple belts you could try it with. In these photos above I matched the black belt with black accessories, but you could also add a belt that contrasts with your outfit and other accessories for a pop of colour.
