Layering Maxi Dresses For Spring | Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear link up, I was making the most of spring weather here in Brisbane and layering up my maxi dresses. One on a slightly cooler spring day, and another for a much warmer day that was almost summer-like!

What I wore:

Jeanswest Chantelle blue printed maxi dress with denim jacket and bright accessories peach and magenta for spring | awayfromblue

navy printed maxi dress with Rebecca Minkoff chevron quilted small Love crossbody bag in pale coral | away from blue

Earrings: Piper gold heart earrings
Jacket: Jeanswest Kitty denim biker jacket
Necklace: thrifted magenta pink statement beaded necklace
Dress:  Jeanswest 'Chantelle' crochet detail blue printed maxi dress
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs logo plaque flats in camel
BagRebecca Minkoff chevron quilted small Love crossbody bag in pale coral

Why I wore it:

Dressed up a little more than I usually would for a work from home day! This blue printed jersey maxi dress is so incredibly comfortable and was perfect for the school run, sitting at my desk all day, a zoom fashion launch, and taking my son to an appointment in the afternoon. A very busy day! I wanted something bright to wear for the zoom TVSN spring/summer fashion catalogue launch. I've been invited to the events before but it's in another state so I couldn't join. With the restrictions and it being online I was able to join this time! Conveniently over lunchtime, I was able to attend in the middle of the work day and ooh and aah over all the pretty fashion pieces (some very out of my budget though!) before diving back into work.

I like pink with this blue maxi dress but I've never worn this particular magenta necklace with it before, and thought this would be a fun statement piece that was suitably bright for the summery designs we were shown. I really liked the combination, and couldn't resist adding even more colour with the little peach Rebecca Minkoff small love bag. I have paired this bag with pink sandals before and I enjoyed the colours together then too. Plus this bag was overdue a wear!

As it was a little cool for a sleeveless maxi dress, especially for the morning school run and afternoon appointment, I layered the denim jacket on top.

What I wore:

Necklace: thrifted Equip gold and marble station necklace

Dress: Kmart Tropicana sleeveless tiered maxi dress
ShoesNovo Tawny rose gold sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus pearl and rose gold bracelet stack
BagMarc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown

Why I wore it:

This was a very fun day! Took the boys for a very overdue haircut and a tiny trim for myself - I am growing my hair out to donate it again but I need to get better at regularly getting it trimmed so it grows in healthier! After the haircut we wandered through the shopping centre to check out the opshop which was preloved book heaven - tables and tables of books. I tried to quickly browse through and pick up a few from authors I've enjoyed reading already, and the kids got a big book haul too!

Had a wonderful picnic lunch as well, enjoying the summery feel of the day!

The only thing I didn't like about the summer-like spring day was that in an effort to try mix up this dress a little I wore the grey tee over it, and it turned into a much too hot and humid day to have added an extra layer! I did like the outfit, just not so much walking around outside in the heat.

Just like the Rebecca Minkoff small Love bag above, this Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran bag is definitely overdue a wear! I used to have a little collection of Marc by Marc Jacobs bags but this is the only one I have left now - and every time I use it I love it, it was nice to get it out again and I loved how it fit everything including all of our water bottles and some snacks inside. Have been using it more since, it was a good decision to get it out my handbag cupboard for this day!

How You Can Wear It:

A maxi dress is easy to layer up in spring! Try a denim jacket over the top for a cooler day or a simple tee on a warmer day.

Two Ways To Wear A Striped Tee In Spring

While I have quite a few striped tees in my wardrobe already, I couldn't go past this cream and black one at the opshop for just $1! I like the retro vibe with the narrow stripes and cream instead of white. like any striped tee, it's so easy to wear different ways in my wardrobe.

What I wore:

spring cardigan and shorts outfit with striped tee converse mustard olive and navy accessories | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight navy with mustard cardigan | awayfromblue

Jacket: thrifted SES Fashions mustard yellow cardigan
Necklace: thrifted blue statement beaded necklace
Tee: thrifted Kmart black and cream stripe tee (new purchase)
Shorts: Jeanswest Tessa olive embroidered shorts
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight

Why I wore it:

A colourful outfit for the first wearing of this tee. I mentioned before I like the cardigan and shorts combination, even if the extremely warm start to spring meant I couldn't wear it as much as I liked! With the mustard cardigan, navy accessories and olive pull on shorts, this was a comfortable outfit perfect for working from home. And as I mentioned on Instagram, taking advantage of a break between meetings to go for a drive and swap with someone for the last Ooshie we needed for our collection.

When we caught up with my parents a few days later they gave me the last of the Ooshies they had...and now we have 3 of that little one I drove to get. Got too caught up in the "early ending of the promotion" panic! 😂 I'm glad we completed our set though, and the Ooshie craze is over (for this year!) now...

Last worn: mustard cardigan, navy necklace, olive embroidered shorts, Converse, navy Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag. First time I've worn the tee as it was a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearmustard cardigan and leopard dress, olive embroidered shorts and grey knit, Converse and maxi skirt, navy Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag and tee dress.

Ways To Wear Bright Bags:

What I wore:

Tee: thrifted Kmart black and cream stripe tee
Skirt: thrifted Crossroads black ruffle hem maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet

Why I wore it:

A slightly more monochromatic outfit this time, pairing the black and cream striped tee with the black Converse and the also thrifted black maxi skirt. The skirt was just $1 too! It was a wonderful spring day so I wanted to add a little more colour - pink accessories were perfect, with the pink marble and gold necklace and my sorbet pink Balenciaga city bag. Simple outfit for a busy morning - although it was my day off I had to dial in for a very important yet short meeting that morning while the kids watched PJ Masks to keep them quiet 😂

I picked the city bag instead of the baby bag to use for the day out with the kids, it easily holds all the water bottles and things you need to bring. I did forget to put tissues or wipes in my bag though. Which would have come in handy when my son stacked it on his bike and bled profusely all over the pavement. A lovely mum with her toddler (and fully stocked baby bag) having a picnic nearby offered us some baby wipes which was so helpful. Thankfully we didn't need to utilise the first aid kit in the car as my son felt better by the time we got back to the car park, and everything was easily cleaned up when we got home.

How You Can Wear It:

A striped tee is a staple wardrobe basic! It's easy to wear too. Keep things monochromatic by wearing pieces that match the stripes, or add more colour with bright layers. A striped tee is something that works well with shorts and skirts!

Weekday Wear Link Up! Stripe Tee Dresses, Converse, and Pink Rebecca Minkoff Bags

Two very similar outfits for today's Weekday Wear Linkup, even though I wore them a week apart! Pairing striped tee dresses with Converse, pink Rebecca Minkoff bags and statement necklaces for easy working from home and school run style.

What I wore:

Kmart white striped tee dress Converse Chucks neon pink mini MAc bag statement necklace thrifted style | awayfromblue

navy white striped tee dress Rebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC | away from the blue

awayfromtheblue Instagram | working from home outfit stripe tee dress bold accessories statement necklace neon pink bag

Necklace: thrifted gold and cream multi strand pearl necklace (new purchase)
Dress: thrifted Kmart white and navy long sleeve stripe tee dress (new purchase)
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
BagRebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC

Why I wore it:

Was excited to wear this dress for the first time, and a slightly cooler spring day was the perfect opportunity! I'd just bought it at the opshop the week before for $1. The necklace was thrifted in the same trip for $2 as well and they work really nicely together. The Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag was a preloved eBay find at just $29.75 so that leaves the Converse shoes as the most expensive piece in my outfit! I bought them over a decade ago though so don't remember exactly how much they cost.

The striped dress was so stretchy and comfortable for a day of working from home and doing the school run - and it looked nice and presentable for a zoom call too!

Last wornwhite Converse all star, neon pink mini MAC bag. First time I've worn the dress and necklace as they are recent purchases.

My Rebecca Minkoff Handbag Collection:

What I wore:

navy stripe tee dress with Converse chucks all stars magenta pop of colour Rebecca Minkoff edie bag | awayfromblue

Necklace: Jeanswest Taki necklace (c/o)
DressAtmos&Here navy stripe tee dress
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta

Why I wore it:

This navy striped tee dress is the reason I knew I had to buy the white striped tee dress! I really like this one and while it's a thicker fabric and so worn more on cooler days it's a firm favourite of mine. Really similar to the white one above too! Just a different hem and shorter sleeves, and of course a darker colour.

I accessorised this in a very similar way, with a pink Rebecca Minkoff bag, the Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody this time, and another statement necklace. Again this was a work from home outfit, as well as doing the school run and taking my son to an appointment in the afternoon. Another comfortable outfit for sitting at my desk all day working after running around dropping the kids to school.

How You Can Wear It:

A striped tee dress is a classic and comfortable option! For days with the kids, pick one with a longer hem like the white one in the first outfit, or a dipped hem at the back like the second one. Because stripes go with everything you can add some fun statement accessories like a bright pink bag or a layered necklace.
