New Weekday Wear Linkup! Blue Dresses and Pink Balenciaga City Bag: Summer Office Outfits

Two simple summer office outfits, with two pretty printed dresses and a pink Balenciaga city bag. All pieces I love and have worn before, but I do have something new to share with you - a new outfit linkup!

What I wore:

NecklaceJeanswest Taryn turquoise tassel bead necklace
DressFrench Connection blue Paisley print dress
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

Sometimes I find the square neckline of this sheath dress a little tricky to accessorise, I often debate for a while each morning about what necklace to wear. This long pendant necklace has been a frequently worn one lately though, so I decided to give it a go and I really liked the combination!

The paisley print dress and pink Balenciaga city bag are frequently worn together, I really like pink and blue! And as I had a gold necklace, these gold mouse flats were an obvious shoe choice. Really easy summer office style. I did have a blazer too for the cold aircon in the office, but it was much too hot to wear it for photos in the morning.

Last worn: long tassel necklace, paisley print sheath dress, gold mouse flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag.

Perfect for pregnancypaisley print sheath dress in second trimester, gold mouse flats in second trimester, Balenciaga sorbet city bag in second trimester.

BeltRebecca Minkoff Liv double wrap velvet belt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

It was a little cooler this morning (although not by much) so I wore my blazer for the pics. Again I picked a gold necklace to wear with the blue printed dress, this Kmart one is another frequently worn one, and so cheap too! For the blazer, shoes and belt I went with black, due to the darker colours in the Ikat print of the dress.

While the blue print in this dress is darker than the one above, I still think the pink Balenciaga city bag is a fun accessory with it - it really pops with the darker background.

A little bit of a quieter day at work meant the opportunity to get some training in too which was wonderful - we have an online training site but I so rarely get the opportunity to use it and there were some courses I've been wanting to do for a while!

Last worn: black jersey blazer, blue and gold necklace, Ikat print dress, velvet belt, black ballet flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag (above).

Other ways to wearjersey blazer and jeans, Ikat print dress with green, velvet belt over a blazer, black ballet flats and skinny jeans, Balenciaga sorbet city bag and shorts.

Blue Printed Dresses Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A printed dress is such an easy office option as you can just pull-on and go. You can always accessorise with a nice neutral like all the black pieces I wore in the second outfit, or make a brightly coloured dress even brighter with a bold bag like the pink Balenciaga city.

Christmas Outfits: Casual and Dressy Maxis

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your friends or family! We hosted Christmas this year, which always makes things a little more hectic, but it's always fun.

Below I'm sharing two Christmas outfits - a casual one for Christmas eve and then a dressier one for Christmas day. Also the first time in a couple of years I've bought a new dress just for Christmas!

What I wore:

Christmas even novelty festive glitter santa tee with jersey maxi skirt and red bag | away from blue

Rebecca Minkoff red micro Avery cross body bag with glitter jingle bells bow bracelet | away from the blue

awayfromtheblue Instagram Christmas eve family time casual festive outfit glitter santa novelty tee maxi dress red bag
Top: festive glitter Santa tee
SkirtJeanswest Luxe jersey maxi skirt
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
Bracelets: the usual plus Christmas bow bracelet (with bells!)
BagRebecca Minkoff red micro Avery cross body bag

Why I wore it:

Christmas eve in my family is always a casual day, the purpose being to relax and spend time together. We all meet up at my parent's place, and commence our yearly traditions. Christmas cookie making, craft making, Christmas movies and a lot of laughter. Definitely the best way to begin Christmas, spending time with people you love.

We've been wearing these Christmas tees to celebrate for 6 years - we each have one, and although I have to keep buying the boys new ones as they grow, this green Santa tee has been worn regularly every year, through both my pregnancies! It's another fun tradition to have.

I couldn't resist adding this red Rebecca Minkoff Avery bag to my outfit - it's such a festive bag it was a frequent go-to over December.

Last worn: green Santa tee, black jersey maxi skirt, Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff micro Avery bag.

Other ways to weargreen Santa tee and shorts, black jersey maxi skirt in autumn, Rebecca Minkoff micro Avery bag and other festive outfits.

Christmas Celebrations:

Bracelets: the usual plus silver charm bracelet

Why I wore it:

While Christmas eve is dressed down, on Christmas day we love to dress up! I'd seen this maxi dress at Jeanswest a few weeks before Christmas, and with some left over gift card to spend decided to treat myself to a new dress for Christmas, something I haven't done for a couple of years.

Christmas day was also a fun and family filled, with presents, putting our new Christmas crafts to good use, and marvelling over the kid's excitement with their gifts. There was a little stress as I hosted Christmas lunch, but so worth it in the end when you get to sit down and eat together! Even if I did mess up the cooking a little bit.... This maxi dress was perfect, I was so glad to finally get to wear it. It's sure to pop up a lot more often on the blog now!

I did want to curl my hair and be all 'done up' for Christmas, but by the time I finished prepping for Christmas day it was 10.30 pm on Christmas eve so I just decided to go to bed instead of staying up to curl my hair, and ran the straighteners through it in the morning. It's nice to want to do everything on Christmas, and wonderful when you achieve it, but at the end of the day (as it is every day) your sanity is the most important thing! Plus with two boys under five that extra 30 minutes in bed makes a difference when they come wake you up early Christmas morning! 😂

Last worn: first time I've worn the maxi dress and the sandals as they are new purchases. Vintage Chanel bag.

Other ways to wearVintage Chanel bag and skinny jeans.

Perfect for pregnancyVintage Chanel bag at 40 weeks.

How You Can Wear It:

Christmas time is a great time to dress up or dress down - there are so many outfit options! You can go for a fun novelty tee (or knit if it's colder where you are) for a casual outfit, or glam it up a little with a maxi dress. Anything goes!

Christmas Outfits: Red Santa Scarf Worn Three Ways

Happy Christmas Eve!

Like all of my blog posts, this one is scheduled in advance. I will be spending the day with my family. On Christmas Eve we decorate cookies, do Christmas crafts, and watch Christmas movies. To keep in the festive spirit, I'm sharing 3 of my recent Christmas themed outfits with this Santa scarf from Fashion Scarf Girl (c/o).

What I wore:

Rebecca Minkoff red micro Avery cross body bag | awayfromtheblue

TeeJeanswest Kaylin star foil grey tee
ShortsJeanswest Sara distressed hot short
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagRebecca Minkoff red micro Avery cross body bag

Why I wore it:

This is what I wore for our annual pre-Christmas shopping trip! All the girls in the family go out for the day, picking up last minute gifts for others and buying gifts for each other when we see things we have to have. It's such a fun tradition and even if we don't manage to buy a lot we always have a great time!

Last year I wore a pretty dress, but this year the kids came along so I thought shorts were a more practical choice! Added a little festivity to my printed tank and shorts outfit with this fun scarf. The red Rebecca Minkoff mini Avery bag was a nice bit of matchy matchy red too.

Last worn: star print foil tee, black denim shorts, Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff micro Avery bag.

Other ways to wearstar print foil tee worn two ways, black denim shorts in capsule wardrobe, Rebecca Minkoff micro Avery bag and dress.

Dressblack Jeanswest halterneck maxi dress
ShoesRebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush
Bracelets: the usual plus Edenborough Evans 'Ivy' silver cuff
BagRebecca Minkoff chevron quilted small Love crossbody bag in pale coral

Why I wore it:

Another Christmas event, another opportunity to wear this Santa scarf! I wore it with black again, this plain black halterneck maxi dress was a lovely backdrop and really let the scarf shine. Perfect for an end of year celebration dinner with some other mums from my local Australian Breastfeeding Association. I quickly got changed after work into this, a simple outfit but so comfortable to wear for dinner.

As I was kid free, I made the most of it and picked this adorable little Rebecca Minkoff small love bag to hold my essentials. Another cheerful pop of colour!

Why I wore it:

Last but not least, wore this to take the boys to White Christmas at Movie World. It was the first time we've been to White Christmas and the first time the boys had been to Movie World! In December, the park opens for a few hours in the evening to allow you to enjoy the Christmas festivities.

With a big Christmas parade, snow falling and so many Christmas themed activities, the Santa scarf was an obvious choice. With a simple shorts and a tank outfit, as it was still hot and I had anticipated going on a lot of rides with the boys!

Again I paired the red Santa scarf with the Rebecca Minkoff Avery bag - it's such a nice combo!

Last worn: striped tank, distressed denim shorts, silver glitter sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff Avery bag (above).

Other ways to wearstriped tank and purple jeans, distressed denim shorts and kimonosilver glitter sneakers and dress, Rebecca Minkoff Avery and skinny jeans.

Perfect for pregnancystriped tank in second trimester.

Santa Scarves Under $50:

(grab one in the sales for next year!)

How You Can Wear It:

An easy way to make an outfit festive without spending a lot is by adding an accessory. This Santa scarf works perfectly for winter, but what about a heart print scarf for Valentine's day, or a bunny printed clutch for Easter? Accessories are a cheap and cheerful way to change up an outfit and make it festive for an occasion.

No matter what you're wearing or what you're doing, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and get to experience God's peace and love in your life. Merry Christmas!

Kmart Tiered Strappy Sundresses And Rebecca Minkoff Darren Messenger

I've been shopping at Kmart a lot more often this year, especially after my favourite local opshop closed. (Americans, our Kmart is what I imagine your Target is, every mum shops there! Our Target is not as good.)

One of the things any Australian will know is that Kmart have these tiered strappy sundresses out in so many different prints. I got a cute black one, and resolved not to buy another, despite them seeming to have a new print every week. I was firm with my goal until I spotted a pink and blue one on the clearance rack, reduced from $15 to $2. So now I have two of these sundresses! I'd like to say I'm content with these two, but they had multi coloured one reduced to $9 the other day I quite liked.... wearing the two I own below with another Kmart find, the silver glitter $8 sneakers!

What I wore:

Kmart strappy tiered sundress in watercolour blue and blush print with silver sneakers pastel pink bag | awayfromblue

blue and blush dress with Rebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony | awayfromtheblue

awayfromtheblue instagram | kmart strappy tiered sundress with silver glitter sneakers rebecca minkoff darren bag
Necklace: long freshwater pearl strand necklace
Dress: Kmart strappy tiered sundress in watercolour blue and blush print (new purchase)
Shoes: Kmart sparkly silver glitter sneakers
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony

Why I wore it:

This outfit made me so happy. I love the way these dresses swing and they are so light and perfect for a hot day. We had a quiet Sunday, our usual walk in the morning and then some time at home in the aircon before going over to my friends house for dinner and to watch Church Online together.

This outfit just felt so like me! Not just because I like blue and pink together, but also because the pearl necklace was a gift, the dress was $2 and the shoes $8 and then I added a $240 Rebecca Minkoff bag to the $10 outfit 😂 Sums up my style perfectly, save on clothes, splurge on accessories! My shoes got a lot of admiration through the day, they are such a fun shoe to wear and so comfortable too.

It was my first wearing of this dress, but given how well my peony pink Darren messenger bag matched the print, you are sure to see me wear the bag and dress together again in future!

Last worn: pearl necklace, silver glitter sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff small Darren bag. First time I've worn the dress on the blog as it is a recent purchase.

Rebecca Minkoff Small Darren Messenger Bag Review:

Necklace: Uniquely Made with Love Sea Change necklace
Dress: Kmart Aztec print tiered little black dress
ShoesWalnut Melbourne Ava White leopard ballet flats
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony

Why I wore it:

You might notice this dress fits a little differently from the blue and pink one above! This black one is my regular size so sits a bit higher and is a smidge shorter than the blue one above, which was a size larger and just $2, while I paid $15 full price for this one! I do still love the length on this one, it's still really easy to wear around the boys. I wore this out for a morning at the library, a little time at the playground and then a few errands before going home for lunch.

Since I loved the leopard print shoes with this dress last time, I paired them together again.

Again I stuck with the pastel pink Rebecca Minkoff Darren bag. While there was no pink in the print of this dress like the one above, I still felt the black dress and pastel pink bag worked nicely together. Plus, I'm a big fan of repeating outfit formulas when I like the results, and I loved the first outfit so much it made sense to recreate it with the same accessories and a different dress.

Tiered Sundresses Under $50:

How You Can Wear It

A strappy sundress is a summer staple, especially with the current Queensland heat and humidity. It makes it easy to justify having the same dress in different prints when the dresses are as light and floaty as theses. You can get a similar look with a tiered sundress made from viscose. Add a fun cross body bag and you have a simple outfit that will keep you cool.

Printed Maxi Dresses and Louis Vuitton Neverfull Damier Azur Tote

I love a maxi dress. They are perfect for staying covered up but cool in the summer heat. I wore both these printed maxi dresses for two different days, but kept the accessories identical to show you that you don't need to add much to a maxi dress - even with the same accessories these are such different outfits due to the different prints.  Take a maxi dress, add a pretty necklace, big tote bag, studded sandals and you have an easy summer outfit - no matter the print or style of your maxi dress!

What I wore:

Dress: Kmart Tropicana sleeveless tiered maxi dress
ShoesRebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush

Why I wore it:

Wore this to go take our annual family Santa photo. We have done it at a few different places over the years, but this year we did the same as last year and headed to the local RSPCA shelter to get the photo. I'd thought about what everyone was wearing, planned it all out so we subtly coordinated. The boys were in blue and green shirts and I picked this tropical print maxi dress because of the blue and green in the print.

Turns out that all that time I spent curling my hair in the morning and thinking about the perfect outfits didn't really matter as one of my sons decided he was not in the mood for photos and that the camera and Santa were the scariest things in the world. Your time slot is really short, just 5 minutes, so I felt horrible as I was going through my bag for things for the staff to use to distract him and make him look over at the camera. At the time of writing this I haven't got the final photo back yet, but I'm not expecting it to be a good one. Will certainly be a funny one to look back on in later years though.

I really did like this outfit - the bag and dress and the studded sandals and maxi dress are all frequently worn together. I just wished the morning was a little less stressful! 😂

Why I wore it:

Same outfit formula, although a much more productive day! I picked this jersey maxi dress to wear as it seemed like a nice option for the crazy heat and humidity while still being modest enough for an appointment I had with my son. I had the day off for it, and got to spend some rare one on one time with him before the late morning appointment. I think the biggest struggle of having two kids is finding enough time one on one with each of them equally.

After the appointment I dropped him off late at daycare, and headed to the shops to finish grabbing a few more Christmas gifts. Of course I stopped at Kmart, to discover that my local store has the super clearance markdowns on Wednesdays, when I'm usually working! I stocked up and bought a bunch of clothes for the boys, and a $2 dress for me! 18 items for $37 was a pretty good deal!

This maxi dress is a firm favourite, being my favourite colour, and was perfect for the day. I even filmed a few videos for YouTube too and really made the most of my day off!

Black Dresses For The Office With Pink Scarves and Rebecca Minkoff Darren Messenger Bag

You can add scarves to warm weather outfits by thinking a little differently about how you wear them. While these two scarves are very different, they are both pretty shades of pink and work so nicely with these little black dresses for the office. I continued the pink theme with my peony Rebecca Minkoff Darren messenger bag.

What I wore:

DressJeanswest 'Gisele' contrast lace dress
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony

Why I wore it:

It was Melbourne Cup day so once again I broke out my Hermes twilly to tie around my hair like a headband. I did the same thing last year! This year we weren't having a big lunch like we usually do, just a few snacks to watch the race. I was stuck working on an urgent issue and missed the race and the snacks.

I wanted to feel a little more dressed up than usual for the occasion - you see so many people wearing the prettiest dresses around the office and in Brisbane on race day. This little black lace dress which sometimes seems too dressy for work was the perfect piece to wear. I really liked the way the peony pink Darren bag worked with the lace on the dress too. Was good to give this dress another wear, it's one of the little worn pieces in my wardrobe, last worn a year ago!

BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony

Why I wore it:

Unlike the lace dress above, this classic fit and flare dress is frequently worn to the office. It's the perfect style and length and always looks good! Sometimes I like to wear a belt with it. I decided to try something a little different with my leaf print scarf and tied it as a belt around my waist. I folded the scarf over a few times, wrapped it around, and then tucked the ends back into the scarf at the back. As the dress is a thick ribbed ponte fabric, it held in place perfectly through the day.

While I think the scarf and the small Darren bag added a great touch of colour with the dress, I couldn't resist adding just a little more with this statement necklace. The colours really popped against the black, and I was feeling very confident and happy with my outfit when I stepped out of the house. Only to quickly realise on my way to work that a braided hairstyle and this crystal necklace don't work so well together. The necklace kept getting caught rather painfully in my braid through the day! Will definitely be wearing this necklace and dress together again in future, but maybe not with my hair tied so close to it 😂

Black Dresses Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A little black dress is a frequently recommended style staple. It is a classic piece to have for work. It's easy to change it up a little each time you wear it with different accessories, and to add a touch of colour. You can stick with a colourful bag like I have here, or try something a little different and add a scarf as well. You can drape a scarf over your neck or try an alternative way to wear it, like as a headband or wrapped around your waist like a belt.
