Here's what I wore to work today for casual Friday:
Jacket: Jeanswest black leather jacket (similar here)
Necklace: Lovisa blue leaf long necklace (similar here)
Bracelets: the usual plus my Balenciaga Silver Giant Triple Tour Bracelet in Rose Bruyere from HGBags Online (similar here)
Jeans: Jeanswest 'spoylt' super skinny jeans (similar here)
Shoes: Asos cleo leather boots in black
Bag: Balenciaga 2008 RH marine city (similar here)
The first outfit is from this post with the top worn for casual Friday, second is it belted with pants and heels for a more formal look, and the third way is worn with a pencil skirt (from this post).
Would love to know what your favourite outfit is from the 3 :)
Blue is my favourite colour and my go-to when I need a bit of an extra boost. I wore all the blue in these outfits, with some blue thrifted knits and blue printed maxi skirts. Added the prune Rebecca Minkoff MAC bag the boys got me for mothers day as the perfect pop of colour.
This was all about being comfortable! With the school run and working from home I wanted something cute and cosy, and this was perfect! I was eager to try winterise this maxi skirt, which is a great piece in summer but the side-slit would normally make me pass over it in winter. Decided to try my knee high leather boots underneath so there was no bare leg to deal with the winter chill and it worked really well! So much that I tried the boots and side split maxi skirt outfit combo again a couple days later, as you can see below.
Jumper: thrifted blue Kmart stitch detail knit Skirt: Ally Fashion blue border print floral maxi skirt Shoes: Asos Cleo leather boots in tan Bracelets: the usual Bag: Rebecca Minkoff prune MAC with pom pom and tassel keychain
Why I wore it:
What a day this was! It was a lot colder than expected so even with the knee high tan boots on under this maxi skirt, I really felt the breeze from the side splits in the skirt! Thankfully the stich detail knit kept me cosy on top. We headed out to an opshop (thrift store/charity shop) to drop off some donations, because I'd thought they were also having a special weekend sale day. I was very surprised to get there and find the opshop closed. And the kids were unimpressed as they were looking forward to a good rummage through the books!
Luckily they have a donation bin so we could still drop off when they were closed, but it was a much shorter trip than expected. It was only later in the afternoon that I went to look up the event on Facebook and realised that I'd got mixed up, and it was another local opshop that had a sale day! We will just have to catch the next one.
With the pink and turquoise floral print on this maxi skirt, I wasn't sure the prune MAC bag would be a good accessory with it, but just like above I think the deep magenta shade actually worked really well with this skirt. Will have to wear them together again soon, just maybe on a warmer day!
Pairing two pieces of clothing together in your favourite colour is an easy and mood-boosting way to come up with a tonal outfit. And if one of the pieces you want to wear is a summer maxi skirt, try layering up a little with knee high boots and a cosy knit.
Went on a long walk with Cooper today as the weather was really nice, although a little cool. We walked a little further than usual and came across a trail, so we decided to see where it lead. It was really nice just taking a relaxing walk to nowhere in particular as we weren't in any rush. I stopped to take some pictures and give Cooper a bit of a rest.
Hope you had a lovely start to the week as well :)
This wasn't what I originally planned to wear today, but it was so cold I felt the need to rug up. Maybe shouldn't have worn a short jumper and a short jacket together, I don't really like the way it looks in the photos. And the neckline of the top with the neckline of the jacket....at least I was warm and comfortable :) What do you think?
The jacket was last worn here, jumper here, jeans here, boots here and bag here.
Layering up some pretty floral dresses for recent winter weekend birthday parties, with knee high boots and denim jackets. Accessorising with a couple of my Chloe bags too.
Wore this pretty Jasse dress for my son's birthday party! We had a kid's party entertainer from Fly By Fun again who was awesome at sticking to the theme and had all the kids and adults giggling along - such a fun morning! It was a gloriously sunny day and I ended up taking the denim jacket off - one the day warmed up I really didn't need it. I liked the length of the dress with the knee high boots, I definitely need to wear the boots and dress together more often.
Although it was just a birthday party in the park I tried to dress up a little with the statement earrings as it was a special occasion. I did feel a little overdressed after the party when we went to the library in the afternoon though!
Because I wanted to have my camera close by I picked this Chloe Paraty bag to wear again. The pale periwinkle blue shade looks great with the navy dress and it meant I had my phone and camera close by and easy to grab through the morning.
While this outfit follows the same formula as the one above, I didn't like this as much! The statement fluted sleeves of this dress kept bunching up under the sleeves of the jacket so it wasn't the most comfortable. I really liked the colours though. The tiered mustard floral dress is great with the pale blue moto denim jacket and the tan of the boots and brown of the Chloe Marcie bag. However I was expecting the day to be similar to the day above, and super warm. I decided not to add leggings, as standing in the sun the day before in the navy dress I'd had to take my denim jacket off.
We went to a back yard birthday party though and the back yard was in shade that morning - I really wished I'd worn leggings! I felt much colder in this than the outfit above, even though I had a slip on under the dress, just because I was in the shade most of the morning. Cute outfit, just not the most practical for the day. My son had such a good time at his friend's party though, they had so many things set up for the kids to play with and enjoy, I really liked how it was organised!
If it's not too cold, a denim jacket is a great layer over a cute floral dress to make it work into winter, especially when paired with knee high boots. Just maybe add some leggings if it's a very cold day, like I should have in the second outfit!
Bracelets: the usual trio (Image from a previous time I've worn all 3 bracelets, here)
I dressed for warmth and comfort as I was feeling unwell today so worked from home. Jeans and a hoodie were the perfect combo. The colour is really washed out sorry, but the jumper is a really nice pink colour. I swapped the boots for fuzzy leopard print slippers when I was inside ;) Cooper and I went for a little walk at lunch time when the rain stopped so I got a chance to wear my new Mulberry Alexa bag.
The Alexa is a bag I've wanted to try for a while. It popped up in so many Reebonz sales and I kept drooling over it but could never pull the trigger as it was a little out of budget. It was online again last week in the special June sales Reebonz are having and was massively reduced so I grabbed it :) Very happy with it so far, even if I only carried it for a little bit today. Proof that good things come to those who wait ;)
The jeans were last worn here, boots here, and this is the first wearing of the top and bag on the blog.
Wearing a couple of new things today! I ordered a bunch of bracelets from Asos last week, these spike ones and a couple of Ashiana friendship bracelets. I'm returning the Ashiana ones though, not worth the money, even on sale. They seemed very flimsy, not cute and dainty like I expected.
If you want to see what I'm looking at buying or what I'm planning to blog about, you can stalk me here on Currently Obsessed. Every time I find something similar to something I own I stick it on Currently Obsessed, and of course my wishlist of things I wish I could buy lives there too ;)
Ended up taking photos with boots and skinny jeans twice in a row! I really like wearing boots and jeans in cooler weather, it doesn't last long here in Queensland.
Here's what I wore to visit family and go shopping:
It's the first time I've worn this shirt on the blog, but not the first time I've worn it. I bought it back when I was still pregnant and Jeanswest were having one of their 40% off sales. For those early days of breastfeeding, a button up shirt over a breastfeeding singlet is a great outfit idea when you have to get out of the house and you want to feel dressed up. I just wasn't organised enough when I wore it to get a photo for the blog.
Wore the shirt this time with skinny jeans and ankle boots, just like the suggested styling idea on the site. Was such a nice outfit, even if I didn't fully think it through. Baby T was being babysat by family as I had a few errands to run in the morning, and then we had a family BBQ in the evening. When I went to leave baby for a few hours I realised that I hadn't brought a bag for my own things - they were just in the baby bag! Ended up carrying my wallet and phone around in the morning, wishing I'd thought a little longer about what I was doing to have realised I'd need a handbag for when the baby bag was left behind. Just too used to going out and about without a handbag now I guess.
This tee is becoming my beach wear tee! Wore it to the beach last time too. It was a much colder and windier day this time around, but we went to out local dog beach despite the weather. It gave baby T his first chance to see the sea - after he slept through it the last time - and let Cooper stretch his legs and run off-leash. We left the baby bag in the car and wore baby in his carrier, so I made sure to take a handbag with me this time to have somewhere to store my camera and phone as we walked. Didn't want to make the same mistake as the day before! A cute little clutch was all I needed for the essentials.
The boots seemed like a good idea that morning to keep my feet dry and warm as we walked along the sand, as it was much too cold to go for a dip. We ended up walking in a lot of muddy and wet sand as the tide was out though, so leather boots were not the best choice. My feet stayed dry, but the boots look a little worse for wear! There are one or two days a year I wish I had Wellington boots, this was one of those days.
As this is the second wear of the grey tee from my August purchases and I'm trying to review what I buy, the final verdict:
I love this tee. I've only worn it with denim so far, but I know from experience that it pairs well with skirts too. Having this tee in other colours meant this purchase was always going to be a keeper, and something I knew I would wear. I'm really pleased I could score it on sale, as it's always been sold out in my size every time I've seen it previously. Very pleased with this purchase! I've actually worn it more often than I've taken photos of it, such a good tee.
Sharing more of my June Dress Week Style challenge outfits, this time for #JuneDressWeek2. I'm doing this challenge with my blog buddy Kiki from According to Kiki. You can follow along with us on instagram @kikimincks and @awayfromblue, or through our blogs. I'm posting a little more closely to the actual days with this one, as I went ahead and did the second challenge right after the first so I was a week ahead!
First, the Shopbop sale has just gotten even better! Get an extra 25% off sale items with the code '25MORE' for the next 3 days only! I keep the Sales and Discounts page updated regularly, but this sale is so good I had to include it in a post too. Perfect time to buy all those items you had added to your cart waiting for a justification to buy. Or is that just me? ;)
What I wore:
Jacket: Wittner 'Santa Fe' cobalt blue leather jacket
The challenge was 'oldie but fave', and this was Kiki's take on it. This dress is only 3 years old (I bought it on a trip to Sydney), so it's certainly not the oldest dress I own. It's definitely one of my favourites though! I was actually surprised to see that I hadn't worn this dress with these tall boots before, in all the (15) times I've worn it. It's one of those pieces that is perfect in summer or layered up in winter, a great all-rounder and I'm so pleased I bought it all those years ago.
This is probably one of my shortest lived outfits that has ever been on the blog though, despite how much I liked it. As usual, after a busy morning everyone was fed, clothed and ready to go out the door. I stopped to take photos and then after putting the tripod away I turned to baby T to go put him in his car seat....and he vomited! My first instinct was to scoop him up and cuddle him, which didn't work out nicely for my outfit as he wasn't quite finished!
I had been debating wearing this jacket that morning, as it is one of my most expensive items of clothing (more expensive than some of my hand bags!). Lydia left a comment last time I wore the jacket suggesting it would look nice with this dress, so I was eager to try the combination. I foolishly decided that as it was only a short morning out, going to the library and then playgroup, my jacket would be okay. I had wanted to give it its first wearing in a while, after not wearing it a lot last year when baby T was still a newborn as I was worried about him spitting up on it!
Had to text my friends to tell them we wouldn't be seeing them, and I spent the rest of the day at home with a sick baby after getting us changed out of our messed up clothes. My outfits for looking after a sick baby are never blog-worthy, and they never tend to stay clean for long!
I might wear this exact outfit again another day as I didn't get a chance to wear it for long and I really liked it. I wonder if this disappointment is what people who have 'professional' fashion blogs feel, getting all dressed up in something you like and it only lasts for a few camera clicks? I prefer actually wearing my clothes, and enjoying them!
This chambray challenge was the hardest one for Kiki and I! We spoke about it quite a few times, as we were unsure how to pull it off. I was a step ahead of Kiki as I already owned a chambray dress, but I have never been to sure about how to style it for cooler weather! A chambray dress is also the Style It Project challenge for June, so I got a few ideas about how to make my chambray dress work for winter from Kimba's blog.
My first thought was to try leggings and ankle boots with this, as that was the outfit idea I liked the most, but I don't have any full-length leggings. With the darker denim panel at the hem of the dress and the leggings cutting off above the ankle boots...it was not a flattering look. So I wore exactly the same thing, but with tights instead. I think it looks nice this way. It does make me wonder why I keep holding onto this dress though as I always find it hard to wear. I'm not letting go of it just yet, will wait until spring comes around again and see how I feel about it then before I decide. It is easier to wear in the warmer weather.
As you can see I'd been sitting down all morning and forgot to smooth out the skirt for pictures - sorry! Odd bump around my hips!
Closeup of accessories:
Got my Asos 'Cleo' leather boots in the mail today - they fit perfectly! Can't wait for cooler weather to be able to wear them :) They were a "not needed right now but too good to let pass" purchase that I'll be glad I have in winter!
If you're looking to buy anything from Asos, you can get an extra 10% off outlet sale items too! Enter promo code OUTLET10 at checkout to get a further 10% off. Valid until 7pm EST Sunday 19th February 2012, on selected items only and on orders up to a maximum of $811. Only one promo code can be used per order.
Also received a very exciting purchase - a new bag! However as I didn't buy from the boutique or a store that guarantees authenticity and got it on ebay, I'm getting it checked out by the experts at Effen Haute Forum before I get too attached. I think it's authentic but I haven't spent the same time others have studying authentic bags and what differentiates them from the fakes. Fingers crossed my risky purchase turns out okay!
Although it's June, I'm still a bit behind with blogging what I wear and so I'm still sharing what I wore for the May Fox in flats style dare in autumn. Grouped these two outfits together to share as it's two different dresses layered up slightly for autumn, with my Louis Vuitton damier speedy bandouliere bag.
The style challenge for the day was 'crazy sexy', and much like the 'vamp vixen' challenge, I wasn't sure I was going to be able to come up with an outfit. I'd thought I might wear this dress again, as I've been wanting to wear it to meet my goal of wearing things twice in a month after I buy them, but it hadn't really fitted easily into any challenge prompts. I figured dresses are sexy...so wore this! Bundled up with the scarf and boots to keep cosy as I popped out to the chemist. Baby T and I were feeling a little under the weather, the cold we'd been getting over came back with a vengeance so we needed to pick something up for us both.
I really like this dress! I'm so pleased I bought it. I saw it online at full price and added it to my wishlist, and saw it popping up on instagram worn by a couple of people and just waited until there was a sale to justify buying it. Luckily The Iconic frequently has sales (there's one on right now...) so I was only waiting a few weeks. It's going to be so easy to layer up with in winter and as I can wear it with the sleeves rolled up like I have here I can see it being worn in spring as well, even if it isn't the most breathable fabric for summer. Really happy with this purchase!
Unbelievably, this is the first time I've worn this cardigan on the blog. It's actually one of my favourites! It's been worn a lot in the office and for keeping cosy at home, but I don't wear it out often so it's never been in an outfit picture before. As I mentioned before, I'm making more of an effort to wear my cardigans lately, inspired by some other bloggers. They have the benefit of being just cosy enough for the mild Queensland autumn weather, and easy for life with baby. I can babywear in them as they don't have jaggy zips, and I don't have to worry about them getting dirty or covered in baby's food, I can just throw them in the wash.
The style dare for the day was 'elegant'. I was working from home and doing the day care pick up so I wanted to be more comfortable than elegant! I decided to wear all these things because they sound elegant. A floor-length gown, pearl necklace and Louis Vuitton accessories...AKA a maxi dress, boho necklace and a LV speedy bag topped off with a cosy cardi. I much prefer comfortable elegance over black tie elegance any day!
Wet and rainy Friday, so boots were the perfect footwear choice :) Brightened up my outfit with my new skull scarf and a colourful Balenciaga. I wasn't too sure about the mix of prints with the pattern on the jacket, star print on the tee and skulls on the scarf, but I think it all worked together. Feel free to tell me otherwise and leave me tips for how to do it better in a comment! :)
Really like my new scarf, so wearing it two days in a row! :) This lilac and cobalt combination was another outfit I had thought of when considering the purchase of the leather jacket. Think the colours worked out nicely. A pink or purple bag would have been good, but picked my Bal day as I had a bit to carry around.
Thank you all so much for your kind comments, prayers and messages about Cooper and his health lately. Special thank you to Pat from Shoes of Prey who sent me a lovely email. Cooper is doing really well, although we still have to keep an eye on how much walking and running he does for a little longer until his wound is completely healed after surgery. The vet has given him the all clear, which is great! So nice to have good news!
