Striped Mini MAC Bag and Jeans

As usually happens when I near the end of any season, I've been feeling a bit uninspired with my winter wardrobe. Easy outfit formulas are great when you're rushed for time with little ones in the morning, but they don't feel very inspiring. Decided to wear some loved but little worn pieces to try make getting dressed a little more interesting.

What I wore:

Printed accessories winter jeans and tee outfit | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff striped coated canvas mini MAC in berry stripe | AwayFromTheBlue
JacketJeanswest Alice longline Australian wool cardigan
Scarf: Supre neon pink leopard print scarf
TopAtmos&Here rolled sleeve oversize tee in black (also in grey)
JeansJeanswest Super Skinny Jeans in Mid Indigo
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
BagRebecca Minkoff striped coated canvas mini MAC in berry stripe

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a babywearing consultation. I've only recently discovered that there are people who are trained in the art of babywearing and know how to use all the different options on the market. I've been thinking about getting another baby carrier for baby boy so booked in a consultation. The lovely Kylie came over to my house and I got to try on so many different carriers, as well as some much needed pointers to improve my experience with my current Ergobaby carrier.

Jeans and a tee was a nice easy and practical outfit, and the colourful scarf and striped bag were good to add some colour. The scarf was very welcome for battling the cold in the morning too. It's been four months since I last used this bag, it was good to get it out again.

Last worn: grey wool cardigan, neon leopard print scarf, black tee, skinny jeans, black ballet flats, canvas stripe mini MAC.

Other ways to weargrey wool cardigan and red jeans, leopard print scarf and striped maxi skirt, black tee and purple cardi, skinny jeans and floral kimono, black ballet flats and flares, canvas stripe mini MAC and a polka dot dress.

What I wore:

Jacquard jacket grey jeans khaki green tank and red bag | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff striped coated canvas mini MAC bag | Away From The Blue
JacketJeanswest Cassandra jacquard jacket
Tank: Target embroidered khaki tank
Jeans: Sass and Bide pale grey skinny jeans
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats (on sale!)
BagRebecca Minkoff striped coated canvas mini MAC in berry stripe

Why I wore it:

I wasn't going anywhere special, just running errands and toddler T's swimming lesson, but I really wanted to wear my grey jeans again after getting inspired by Nikki. She wore hers with a lovely pink top, and I have a pink shirt I wanted to wear. However, the post-pregnancy weight loss has not extended to the boob region so I still can't button it up sadly.

At the last minute I realised this and was fumbling around trying to think of something else that would work when I saw this tank and knew it would look nice with the grey. I wouldn't normally wear a red bag and khaki top together but I think the different shades of red and green kept it from feeling to Christmassy.

I'm not sure how much life these jeans have left in them - they are really old and almost worn to death, which is why I stopped wearing them for a while. It was good to get them out again though, and if they do eventually get worn to pieces, distressed denim is fashionable!

Last wornjacquard jacket, khaki tank, grey jeans, silver ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff canvas stripe mini MAC (above).

Other ways to wearjacquard jacket and dress, khaki tank and flares, grey jeans and heels, silver ballet flats and a maxi dress, Rebecca Minkoff canvas stripe mini MAC and a red kimono.

Skinny Jeans, Printed Scarves and Cardigans with Rebecca Minkoff Red Saddle Bag

More adventures out with my friend who was visiting Brisbane. I've mentioned before I try to get out as often as I can with the two boys, but with my friend here we've been doing a more than our usual routine of library and playgroup visits. I've been reaching for jeans a lot to keep things simple, and Converse for all the walking.

What I wore:

Brestfeeding friendly zoo outfit: bird print scarf, elephant teething necklace skinnies cardi | AwayFromBlue

Rebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red | AwayFromTheBlue
SunniesRay-Ban new Wayfarers
Jacket: Paper Scissors grey wrap cardigan
Scarf: navy bird print scarf
Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Ava elephant pendant teething necklace
TankMEV Britney bubble tank in mood indigo C/O Zibibo
JeansJeanswest Super Skinny Jeans in Mid Indigo
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white (on sale and on sale in metallic!)
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale and on sale in brown!)

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a trip to Australia zoo. While it was quite warm and I took my cardigan off for most of the day, I was thankful I'd brought the scarf as it's a great breastfeeding coverup. Plus the bird print is perfect for a day at the zoo. Didn't attract the local birds like I did last time I wore it though!

The elephant necklace was a last minute addition but again was a fun animal themed piece to wear to the zoo. I have a few teething necklaces from when toddler T was a baby, this one is a new one I got in a babyology subscription box. Baby boy has started grabbing and tugging on my hair hard so the necklace was a little bit of a distraction for him. Came in handy on the long car ride home when we got stuck in traffic with a cranky baby too, one of my friends tied it to the baby capsule like a little mobile to calm him down.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, grey cardi, bird print scarf, breastfeeding tank, skinny jeans, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag.

Other ways to weargrey cardi and a maxi skirt, bird print scarf and stripes, breastfeeding tank and maxi skirt, skinny jeans and a floral kimono, Converse and flares, two different ways to wear a saddle bag.

JeansSass & Bide Playman skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black (on sale and on sale in grey)
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale and on sale in blue!)

Why I wore it:

It was a slightly cooler day so I was glad I'd worn a thicker cardigan. While I took the scarf off and on as I was babywearing with the Ergo carrier, the cardigan stayed on all day as we went into the city for brunch. It's getting more fun to eat out with toddler T as he's getting to the age where we can order a little meal for him to, and he definitely enjoyed his little serving.

I've mentioned before that I wasn't too sure about what kind of printed scarves I could wear with these jeans, but I find skull scarves seem to go with everything and I don't worry about wearing them with other prints. It was nice to have a little more red in my outfit too.

Trench Coats, Jeans and Clothes With History | #noBuyJuly16 Results

First up, no budget wrap up for this month as I achieved #noBuyJuly16! Not a single cent spent on clothes or accessories. Much better than last year's attempt. I credit this to having a sick toddler keeping me home a lot of the month and having less time on the computer or to browse in stores. I have a few things I'd like to buy in August but I'm in no rush unless they are in a great sale.

I realised I hadn't worn my trench coats this winter as I've been favouring my cardigans or leather jackets, so made an effort to wear them. Both of these coats have been in my wardrobe for a while and have some great memories attached. Having emotions or memories tied to clothes is part of the reason why wardrobe clearouts are so difficult for me! When I had the help of a professional stylist to do a wardrobe detox, I had a story for every piece we let go of.

What I wore:

Trench coat, skinny jeans, boots, ombre knit LV speedy stroller | Away From Blue

Trench coat and Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere damier ebene 30 | Away From The Blue
Jacket: Barkins beige trench coat
JumperJeanswest 'Serena' ombre knit
JeansJeanswest Super Skinny Jeans in Mid Indigo
Shoes: Asos Cleo leather boots in tan
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere

Why I wore it:

Nice and simple outfit for a couple of errands and then time with my mum in the afternoon. This has to be my favourite trench coat. I wish I could remember when I bought it. It's definitely pre-blog, so more than 4 years old. I bought it near the end of winter on massive sale one year, knowing I'd wear it a lot on an upcoming trip to Melbourne. I've definitely got my money's worth, as it was under $50 and I've worn it in 37 posts, a lot of them where it's worn twice for both outfits.

The ombre knit hasn't been worn for a little while either, only because it was boxed away with all my other winter things and I just recently uncovered that box. My sister has the same jumper, and that makes me smile when I wear it. Luckily we haven't both worn it on the same day!

Last worn: camel trench, ombre knit, skinny jeans, leather boots, Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere.

Other ways to weartrench coat and plaid, ombre knit and printed scarf, skinny jeans and a blazer, leather boots and a printed dress, Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere and a maxi skirt.

Tank: Emerson crochet lace bib print top
Jeans: Sass and Bide pale grey skinny jeans

Why I wore it:

Simple layered outfit for a morning down the coast with the boys and lunch with my mum. I picked a cardigan instead of a scarf as an extra layer over the tank as the print can be tricky to wear with a printed scarf. I've worn the cardigan and tank together before, I really like the combination.

Unlike the trench in the first outfit, I remember exactly when I bought this, it was 8 years ago before a trip to Europe. It kept me really cosy the whole time, and wearing it always makes me think of my trip. It was fun wearing it with these jeans too, as they were one of the pairs I took on the trip with me! They are even older than the coat though, at least 10 years old.

Printed Shirts, Colourful Pants and Ankle Boots With Rebecca Minkoff MAB

Do you ever hit that point in a season where you're just over it, uninspired and dreaming of other weather? I hit that point in winter recently. I was cold and uninspired so I defaulted to my go-to outfit of jeans! The beauty of working in a business casual office environment is the ability to wear jeans through the week. Well, burgundy pants and a pair of grey jeans. Add some ankle boots, cosy scarves, and printed shirts and it's easy office style for winter.

What I wore:

burgundy and mint winter business casual office trench coat scarf outfit | awayfromblue

rebecca minkoff soft grey MAB bag worn on crook of arm | awayfromtheblue

Jacket: Barkins beige trench coat
ScarfForever New skye foil feather scarf in berry / gold (on sale!)
Shirt: Target mint stripe shirt
Pants:  Jeanswest 'Fiona' skinny leg pant in shiraz
ShoesAsos leather Chelsea boots in tan
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey

Why I wore it:

I usually plan my outfits the evening before I wear them. I'm not always organised enough to plan much further in advance! The night before I was cold, tired and wanted something easy. These burgundy pants are warm, and I've worn a very similar outfit before. The tan boots, camel trench and burgundy pants just work perfectly together, especially with the burgundy scarf and the neutral Rebecca Minkoff MAB. I've worn all these pieces together previously here, but this time for something different I picked another top. Again, mint and burgundy is a colour combination I've tried before, although it's the first time I've worn this shirt with the pants.

I really liked this outfit - being a combination of colours and pieces I've tried before, I knew I would, and it was just what I needed for an otherwise uninspired day. You know an outfit's good when your boss stops you in passing to comment on how much they love it!

I did manage to somehow spill multiple meals on myself so my outfit got progressively worse through the day, but otherwise it was a great outfit and a good day. Realising I'd spilled my drink over both my top and my pants after presenting a meeting wasn't a highlight (I missed my sleeve in the clean up and just noticed the pants!) but thankfully no-one said anything, if they did notice.

ShirtJeanswest 'Ruby' mixed print shirt
PantsJeanswest 'shale' super skinny jeans
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey

Why I wore it:

Another outfit following the same outfit formula - printed shirt, cosy coat and colourful pants. I like that these jeans are a muted purple-y grey colour, they don't look as obvious as blue denim but are still just as comfortable. While jeans are definitely not frowned on during the week (and you see a lot of blue denim around mid-week in the office) I only pick these jeans to wear on quiet days where I won't be presenting much.

We had a busy day, I was working on another initiative outside of my usual work with a smaller group, so the casual jeans were perfect. Comfortable too.

With the mixed print on this shirt I wasn't completely sure what scarf to go with, went with this magenta one in the morning at the last moment as I liked the colour it added with the navy macintosh. It was actually a warmer start to the morning - a sign winter is coming to an end! - and I debated leaving the scarf behind. I was able to leave my macintosh at my desk when we all went out for lunch, such a warm afternoon. The little exposed ankles I had from rolling up my jeans didn't make me as cold as when I did the same thing in the first outfit above!

Colourful Pants Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

In a business casual office, you have a lot more options when it comes to workwear. You don't have to stick to classic black pants, and can experiment more with cuts like wide legs, culottes or skinnies. You might even be able to wear a pair of jeans like I have in the second outfit. Colourful pants are a nice way to stay warm in winter while keeping cosy at the same time, especially when paired with ankle boots and scarves.

Planned this outfit the night before, and woke up to a lot of rain. So much rain it knocked our power out a couple of times during the night. I decided to go ahead and wear what I'd planned anyway, although boots probably would have been nicer for walking. Luckily the rain dried up during the day and I managed to get some outside photos, after my poor attempt before I left for work. Left my hair wavy and natural as it was raining anyway :)

I think the scarf worked okay due to all the other brown tones in my outfit, what do you think?

Casual and Comfy Grey Tee and Skinny Jeans. Dressed Up With Bodycon And Studs

Continuing on with posting the backlog of my #JaNEWary style challenge outfits. One really casual and comfortable outfit, and another a little out of my comfort zone.

Here's what I wore to go sightseeing with my grandparents:
Away From Blue Aussie Blogger Casual Outfit Grey Tee Skinny Jeans LV Speedy
Necklace: Nibbly Bits Abacus necklace in pop
TeeAtmos&Here 'Amalphi' luxe grey tee
JeansJeanswest Super Skinny Jeans in Mid Indigo
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere (with Coach feather bag charm)

The style challenge was 'your most flattering trousers', which worked out well as it was a bit of a cooler day and jeans were perfect. Spent it by the sea with my grandparents enjoying the sea breeze, and having a really nice lunch. These skinny jeans have to be my favourite -  bought this same style and wash in the maternity range when I was pregnant too. I have a lot of skinny jeans but these always look good, definitely my most flattering pair.

This is the second time I've worn this grey tee since I bought it in December, so my purchase review:
I really like this tee! As I mentioned when I first wore it, I do have a lot of grey tees. But I like wearing them! It was hard to wear this twice in January after buying it in December, only because I was doing another style challenge and a grey tee wasn't one of the prompts, ha! I'm pleased I bought this tee, and I'll get a lot of wear out of it, but I'm starting to think I should stop buying grey tees as I have so many...

Last worn: grey tee, skinny jeans, Havaianas, Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandouliere.

Here's what I wore to go out for dinner with my grandparents:
Away From Blue bohoo paisley print bodycon dress studded miu miu clutch

Away From Blue Miu Miu Cammeo studded clutch mixed metal bracelet stack
Dress: gifted boohoo.com paisley print dress in bodycon
ShoesBalenciaga studded sandals in sorbet RGGH
Bracelets: the usual plus Disney Couture Winnie the Pooh bangle
BagMiu Miu cammeo studded clutch bag

The Style challenge was 'be outrageous in a good way'. Bodycon dress with studded accessories felt outrageous. Made me glad that one of the breastfeeding singlets I'd picked up during pregnancy was a nursing shapewear piece from Jeanswest. Although there was no chance of breastfeeding in this dress, I enjoyed the 'tummy trimmer' feature of the singlet!

My mum picked up this dress for me on one of her op-shopping (thrifting) trips with my grandma. I've never owned anything from bohoo.com before, and it's a size larger than I'd usually wear, but it was just the right size for me. Reading the tag, I thought it might look a little loose on me and I could belt it, but I can't imagine trying to squeeze myself into my normal size in this! Maybe that's why it was donated to the op shop. It is a really cute print, but I'll continue to need to wear shapewear underneath it! Was a nice dressy option for dinner with my grandparents.

Last worn: Balenciaga studded sandals, Miu Miu clutch. First time I've worn the dress.

Blush Pink Boyfriend Blazer, Jeans and Blue Balenciaga Day Bag

With our unexpected autumn heatwave, I wasn't able to wear this beautiful blush pink boyfriend blazer much this year. I mentioned when I last wore it (in March!) that I was just waiting for a bit of a cooler day. Which didn't seem to arrive! Now it's spring and warming up and I need less layers it's been the perfect time to wear it again. Although it's from a Jeanswest spring 2014 collection, it's a great match for the 'rose quartz' colour of the year.

What I wore:

rose quartz pink plazer with monochrome blue breastfeeding jeans outfit | Away From Blue

Blue outfit pink blazer, Balenciaga tempete day bag silver hardware coach rainbow charm | Away From The Blue
JacketJeanswest Nadine 3/4 sleeve dusky pink blazer
Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Ava elephant pendant teething necklace

ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats (on sale!)
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch C/O JORD
Bag:  Balenciaga giant hardware Day bag in 2009 tempete

Why I wore it:

I loved this outfit! The style challenge was 'my favourite colour' which is of course blue. I really like blue and pink together so this blazer seemed like a great topper, despite the warm day I needed just a little something extra to cover my arms.

Took the boys out to brunch with a friend which we had been looking forward to for a while. We've caught up now and then but a dedicated morning to talk over a couple of changes and events was needed. Bringing both boys along led to us cutting our date short when it drew near to nap time and not even yummy food would keep them amused. I'm lucky my friend saw the funny side of the situation, unlike the older ladies sitting a few tables down from us who kept glaring at me as I tried a couple things to calm an overly cranky baby in his ergo carrier while also convincing a toddler that it was time to hop back into the stroller and go home, ha!

Despite feeling a bit flustered towards the end I was grateful to get out and have some adult conversation for a while. The teething necklace bought us a few more minutes of quiet which was appreciated too!

Bag: Balenciaga giant hardware Day bag in 2009 tempete

Why I wore it:

Unlike the outfit above, I'm really not sure about this one. I didn't feel great wearing it. This outfit got more love than the one above on instagram though so maybe I got something right!

I was trying to hit two style challenges again, 'pinktastic' and 'make it casual'. I also wanted to try these grey jeans with the blush blazer. I like all of the pieces on their own, I just don't feel it looked all that great together.

I was in a rush in the morning (as usual!) and trying to get the boys out the door for an appointment. I was thinking of what to wear in between getting them ready. When I saw the photos, the first time I'd seen it all together, I wasn't happy. Definitely an outfit fail. I think if I'd spent the time to pick a different bag I'd have liked this outfit more. Maybe something grey instead of my tempete Balenciaga day. I did consider it but really had no time. Even the pretty blazer couldn't make this better. A good reminder to myself to take longer planning my outfits in the evening when I have more time, so I'm more confident with what I've picked to wear.

Postpartum Outfits: Rebecca Minkoff Saddle Bag, Jeans and Printed Tanks

It's always a good feeling fitting back into pre-pregnancy jeans post baby! As someone who loves wearing denim, I feel a little happier getting dressed each day having my go-to jeans as an option. It means I'm reaching for them a lot though, so I ended up with two very similar outfits with printed tanks and my cute red Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag. Both of these were worn in April, when Brisbane's autumn temperatures were more like summer and layers weren't needed.

What I wore:

AwayFromBlue | Striped tank flared jeans Converse all star Rebecca Minkoff saddle cross body bag

AwayFromTheBlue | Rebecca Minkoff red studded saddle bag and flared jeans
SunglassesRay-Ban new Wayfarers
TankAtmos & Here Oregon stripe tank
FlaresJeanswest 'spoylt' flared jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red

Why I wore it:

Flared jeans were really trendy last year, so I was glad I'd kept these in my wardrobe although I didn't get a lot of wear as the baby bump quickly outgrew them. I'm happy I get a chance to jump on the trend again now. This was a nice casual outfit for the daycare pick up / drop off.

It's the second wear of this top since I bought it. I'm reviewing everything I buy after wearing it twice in a month to make sure I'm buying things I'll actually wear and not just add to my overflowing wardrobe unnecessarily. My purchase review for this striped tank:

This was an impulse buy to get me over a free shipping threshold. I have quite a few striped tops so this wasn't special enough for me to have bought it otherwise. I like how it's a slight trapeze shape - skims over the postpartum belly nicely. While it's not something I needed, I still see it getting a fair bit of wear, as stripes do go with everything. Not the smartest of purchases wardrobe-wise as it doesn't fill a gap I had, but definitely better than paying the same amount just for shipping, as this way I got a top too.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarers, striped tank, flared jeans, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag.

Other ways to wearstriped tank and a maxi skirt, flared jeans and ballet flats, Converse and colourful jeans, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag and a maxi skirt.

More Great Saddle Bags:

What I wore:

Away From Blue | two under two postpartum errands outfit printed tank skinny jeans mouse flats

Tank: Sass and Bide "For Easy Reference" tank
JeansJeanswest Super Skinny Jeans in Mid Indigo
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red

Why I wore it:

Every time I wear this tank I realise how much I love it and wish I'd wear it more. Definitely need to make more of an effort to wear it and not just 'save' it for perfect occasions that never seem to arise.

Similar to the outfit above, another casual jeans and printed tank combination for a morning when I attempted to run multiple errands with two under 2. It didn't go as well as I hoped, but I did like my outfit at least!

It's the third time I've worn this Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag since I bought it, so my purchase review:
I love this bag. I'd had my eye on it for a while thinking it would be great post-baby but held out for it to go on sale. I already had a couple of red bags, so sold them on ebay to justify getting this one. It's a great size for holding my essentials and the cross body strap is perfect for running around with the boys. I'm really pleased I bought this and I'll have to do a proper video review on youtube.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer (above), Sass and Bide tank, skinny jeans, gold mouse flats, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag (above).

Other ways to wearSass and Bide tank and pink accessories, skinny jeans and a pastel blazer, gold mouse flats and a wrap dress, red saddle bag and a monochrome outfit.
